Abstract:This article is devoted to the overthrow of the idle conjectures of sci-fi writers (and after them some romantically minded astrophysicists), one way or another relating to the notorious time travel. Wherein primary attention here is paid to proof of the absolute conceptual prohibition on moving into the past. After all, according to author’s count, lots of fabrications of the human intelligence are by no means equivalent to the quantity of objects of the so-called Cauchy horizon. And moreover: the ordinal of our generalized spiritual world should be obviously higher than for a similar set of structural elements of the observed cosmos. In particular, if a number of material objects is N, a manifold of their cogitable combinations may vary from 2n to Nn. But still with that, it does not seem possible, however, to refute (as shown yet by Kurt Gödel) the significant majority of these frankly dubious speculations at a physical & mathematical level. Thus precisely the probabilistic approach (or, if you like, algorithm) is a quite legitimate and the only correct for given case! And summarizing, the author leads his reader to a quite reasoned conclusion that unraveling the most complex outlook problems of existence, it is better obviously to trust philosophers rather than naturalists or techies!

Abstract:Modernity is saturated with a new view of time. In the twentieth century of time obsession, The Sound and the Fury reveals the contradiction between personal being of time and social clock time. Heidegger's philosophy of time becomes a lens to inspect modernity's perspective of time on history, capitalism and religion, revealing temporal experiences of modernity in conflict. Opposing modernity's emphasis on the present, Quentin is indulged in history and the past. Jason tries to pursue the speed of capitalism, only to find himself has fallen behind everyday life. By taking an ethical responsibility for the other, Dilsey to some extent achieves a transcendence of time, but her whole-life endurance becomes a refutation against the view of progress. In the end, Benjy, the idiot's montage-like narration exposes the ephemeral, fugitive and contingent character of modernity's time, and his feeling of space and forgetfulness creates presentness which turns out to be a direct expression of the temporal experience of modernity.

Abstract:A New Mathematico-Physical and Information Theoretic Approach Examination of the available hard core information to firm up the process of unification of quantum and gravitational physics leads to the conclusion that for achieving this synthesis, major paradigm shifts are needed as also the answering of `What is Time?' The object of this submission is to point out the means of achieving such a grand synthesis. Currently the main pillars supporting the edifice of physics are: (i) The geometrical concepts of space- time-gravitation, (ii) The dynamic concepts involving quantum of action, (iii) Statistical thermodynamic concepts, heat and entropy, (iv) Mathematical concepts, tools and techniques serving both as a grand plan and the means of calculation and last but not least v)Controlled observation, pertinent experimentation as the final arbiter. In making major changes the author is following Dirac's dictum "....make changes without sacrificing the existing superstructure". It is shown that time can be treated as a parameter rather than an additional dimension. A new entity called "Ekon" having the properties of both space and momentum is introduced along with a space called "Chalachala". The requisite connection with Einstein's formulation and mathematical aperatus required have been formulated which is highly suited for the purpose. The primacy of the Plancks quantum of action and its representation geometrically as a twist is introduced. The practical and numerical estimates have been made and applied to evaluation of the gravitational constant in a a seperate submission "Estimations of gravitational constant from CMBR data".

Abstract:Today's science provides quite a lean picture of time as a mere geometric evolution parameter. I argue that time is much richer. In particular, I argue that besides the geometric time, there is creative time, when objective chance events happen. The existence of the latter follows straight from the existence of free-will. Following the french philosopher Lequyer, I argue that free-will is a prerequisite for the possibility to have rational argumentations, hence can't be denied. Consequently, science can't deny the existence of creative time and thus that time really passes.

Abstract:I dissent from the standard assertion of a "Two Times Problem," in which physical time is taken as being at odds with the human sense of a "flow of time." I provide a brief overview of the case to be made for the contrary view: namely, that physical theory is indeed consistent with a genuine temporal dynamism that takes into account the quantum level in connection with spacetime emergence, the latter being supervenient on specific quantum processes.

Abstract:Although recent theories of consciousness have emerged to define what consciousness is, an under-represented aspect within this field remains: time consciousness. However, the subjective passage of time is modulated by changing experiences within different situational contexts and by self-awareness. The experience of silence influences our awareness of self, space, and time, and it impacts on psychological well-being. The present review describes how self and time are influenced by different situations of silence (pure silence indoors and outdoors, the "just thinking" situation, and the combination of silence with deep relaxation). Also, the changes in time experience during a "forced" waiting situation due to the COVID-19 lockdown are presented in order to highlight the role of boredom in waiting situations and in situations in which we are alone with "our thoughts." Finally, in the context of the importance of creating silence through meditation practices, the alterations to one's sense of self and time during mindfulness meditation are reviewed. These studies are discussed within the framework of the cognitive models of prospective time perception, such as the attentional-gate model and the model of self-regulation and self-awareness.

Abstract:Time is an important source of containment vis-à-vis the pressure of affects and the nondimensional immensity of mental space experienced by difficult patients. A more articulated spatiotemporal integration can be facilitated by the analyst's musical "reverie" during intense emotional exchanges in analytic sessions. This reverie can be visual, olfactory, kinaesthetic, etc., no less than auditory or musical. Music is indeed connected with both the concrete world of bodily sensations and the symbolic expressions of culture, and may be an important transitional phenomenon in analytic communication on both unconscious and conscious levels. Two clinical cases are presented in which the patient's awareness of the passage of time, associated with the analyst's internal musical experiences, made it possible in one case to reduce intense panic attacks and, in the other, to overcome the patient's rigid obsessive defenses, giving him access to fluid and unforeseen emotions. In these two instances of working through, the perception of time helped establish confidence in the creative contribution of the "unheard melodies" (Keats) of affects to the functioning of thought.

Here we ask what justifies taking these approximations and show that time seems to sneak in when answering this question. Abstract:The existence of small amounts of advanced radiation, or a tilt in the arrow of time, makes the basic equations of physics mixed-type functional differential equations. The novel features of such equations point to a microphysical structure of time. This corresponds to a change of logic at the microphysical level. We show that the resulting logic is a quantum logic. This provides a natural and rigorous explanation of quantum interference. This structured-time interpretation of quantum mechanics is briefly compared with various other interpretations of q.m.

Time is both a destroyer and a revealer. Renaissance poets lay emphasis on the destructive power of time, for only by destroying spurious values can time fulfill its function of unveiling truth. Abstract:We demonstrate an unsuspected freedom in physics, by showing an essential unpredictability in the relation between the behavior of clocks on the workbench and explanations of that behavior written in symbols on the blackboard. In theory, time and space are defined by clocks synchronized as specified by relations among clock readings at the transmission and reception of light signals; however spacetime curvature implies obstacles to this synchronization. Recognizing the need to handle bits and other symbols in both theory and experiment, we offer a novel theory of symbol handling, centered on a kind of "logical synchronization," distinct from the synchronization defined by Einstein in special relativity. We present three things: (1) We show a need in physics, stemming from general relativity, for physicists to make choices about what clocks to synchronize with what other clocks. (2) To exploit the capacity to make choices of synchronization, we provide a theory in which to express timing relations between transmitted symbols and the clock readings of the agent that receives them, without relying on any global concept of "time". Dispensing with a global time variable is a marked departure from current practice. (3) The recognition of unpredictability calls for more attention to behavior on the workbench of experiment relative to what can be predicted on the blackboard. As a prime example, we report on the "horse race" situation of an agent measuring the order of arrival of two symbols, to show how order determinations depart from any possible assignment of values of a time variable.

While I could be referring to the BBC TV series Doctor Who , which airs this month, I am in fact referring to the BJGP 's own Time And Relative Dimension In Space machine (TARDIS). The Life and Times section is in fact bigger on the inside, as submissions air online and a selection are chosen for a print edition, conditional on (with apologies for the awful pun) space and theme. Abstract:In this paper I argue that the fundamental aspect of our notion of time is that it defines an order relation, be it a total order relation between configurations of the world or just a partial order relation between events. This position is in contrast with a relationalist view popular in the quantum gravity literature, according to which it is just correlations between physical quantities that we observe and which capture every aspect of temporality in the world, at least according to general relativity. I argue that the view of time as defining an order relation is perfectly compatible with the way general relativity is applied, while the relationalist view has to face some challenges. This debate is important not only from the perspective of the metaphysics of space and time and of how to interpret our physical theories, but also for the development and understanding of theories of quantum gravity.

Abstract:Time matters in the sociology of health and illness. Experiences of illness, disability, and health are marked by different temporal intervals and disjunctions, from intimate and mundane daily experiences to much longer temporal enactments wherein health in the present is constituted in relation with anticipated futures and (re)constructed pasts (Adams et al., Citation 2009 ; Green & Lynch, Citation 2022 ; Latimer, Citation 2018 ). These experiences are pluralistic and often contradictory in nature, requiring ongoing negotiation between health subjects, care providers and institutions, and various other human and non-human actors (Berg & Bowker, Citation 1997 ; Kirby et al., Citation 2022 ; Twigg, Citation 2000 ). Care also unfolds in prolonged and fleeting ways; caring relationships across formal and informal care settings are structured through time as resource, practice, and affect (Ihlebæk, Citation 2021 ; Kenny et al., Citation 2019 ; Wiles, Citation 2003 ). Imaginaries of past, present, and future configure the disruptive potential of illness and disability for individual selfhood and care (Bury, Citation 1982 ; Charmaz, Citation 1983 ), yet can also constitute promise, reassurance, or ambition, such as when mobilised through health policies (Brown & Michael, Citation 2003 ; Seear & Lenton, Citation 2021 ).
