Abstract:Each microenvironment requires a specific set of regulatory elements that are finely and constantly tuned to maintain local homeostasis. Various populations of regulatory T cells contribute to the maintenance of this equilibrium and establishment of controlled immune responses. In particular, regulatory T cells limit the magnitude of effector responses, which may result in failure to adequately control infection. However, regulatory T cells also help limit collateral tissue damage caused by vigorous antimicrobial immune responses against pathogenic microbes as well as commensals. In this review, we describe various situations in which the balance between regulatory T cells and effector immune functions influence the outcome of host-microorganism coexistence and discuss current hypotheses and points of polemic associated with the origin, target, and antigen specificity of both endogenous and induced regulatory T cells during these interactions.
Sensor Fusion for Roll and Pitch Estimation Improvement of an Agricultural Sprayer Vehicle

Abstract:Sensor fusion technique has been commonly used for improving the navigation ofautonomous agricultural vehicles by means of combining complimentary sensors mounted on suchvehicles for the position and attitude angle measurements. In this research, sensor fusion via anExtended Kalman Filter (EKF) was used to integrate the attitude angle estimates from the DigitalElevation Models (DEMs) and Terrain Compensation Module (TCM) sensor to improve the roll andpitch angle measurements of a self propelled sprayer. The fusion algorithm was also developed toimprove the three-dimensional positioning of the sprayer, in particular the elevation measurements ofa GPS receiver mounted on the sprayer. Vehicle attitude and field elevation were measured at twospeeds, 5.6 km/h and 9.6 km/h, using a set of onboard sensors including a real-time kinematic-differential GPS receiver (RTK-DGPS), a TCM sensor and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). Asecond order auto-regressive (AR) model was developed to model the TCM roll and GPS-basedpitch errors. The derived error states were incorporated into the EKF algorithm and the measurementnoise covariance was estimated from the AR model, which limited the fine tuning of noise covarianceto the process noise covariance only. The EKF estimations were compared with the IMU measurements to validate the performance of thedeveloped fusion algorithm. For the slow speed test data, the mean and standard deviation of theerrors of roll (Mean: -0.2244, Std. Dev.:1.471) and pitch (Mean: 0.0597, Std. Dev.: 0.6621) fromthe EKF estimates were reduced considerably compared to that of the errors of roll (Mean: 0.2157,Std. Dev.: 2.4610) and pitch (Mean: 0.0473, Std. Dev.: 1.3230) from DEM. Medium speed testdata also showed considerable improvement in the attitude angles estimated using the developedEKF algorithm. The fusion algorithm for improving the elevation measurement of the GPS alsoshowed promising results. Thus, the fusion algorithm was effective in improving attitude and thenavigational accuracy of the self-propelled agricultural sprayer, which in turn will also facilitate theautomatic control of the implements that interact with the soil surface on undulated topographicsurfaces.
Improving Vehicle Heading Angle Accuracy Based on Dual-Antenna GNSS/INS/Barometer Integration Using Adaptive Kalman Filter

Abstract:High-accuracy heading angle is significant for estimating autonomous vehicle attitude. By integrating GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) dual antennas, INS (Inertial Navigation System), and a barometer, a GNSS/INS/Barometer fusion method is proposed to improve vehicle heading angle accuracy. An adaptive Kalman filter (AKF) is designed to fuse the INS error and the GNSS measurement. A random sample consensus (RANSAC) method is proposed to improve the initial heading angle accuracy applied to the INS update. The GNSS heading angle obtained by a dual-antenna orientation algorithm is additionally augmented to the measurement variable. Furthermore, the kinematic constraint of zero velocity in the lateral and vertical directions of vehicle movement is used to enhance the accuracy of the measurement model. The heading errors in the open and occluded environment are 0.5418° (RMS) and 0.636° (RMS), which represent reductions of 37.62% and 47.37% compared to the extended Kalman filter (EKF) method, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively improves the vehicle heading angle accuracy.

Abstract:With the arrival of aging society and the development of modern agriculture, the use of agricultural robots for large-scale agricultural production activities will become a major trend in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to develop suitable robots and autonomous navigation technology for agricultural production. However, there is still a problem of external noise and other factors causing the failure of the navigation system. To solve this problem, we propose an agricultural scene-based multi-sensor fusion method via a loosely coupled extended Kalman filter algorithm to reduce interference from external environment. Specifically, the proposed method fuses inertial measurement unit (IMU), robot odometer (ODOM), global navigation and positioning system (GPS), and visual inertial odometry (VIO), and uses visualization tools to simulate and analyze the robot trajectory and error. In experiments, we verify the high accuracy and the robustness of the proposed algorithm when sensors fail. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better accuracy and robustness on the agricultural dataset than other algorithms.

Abstract:Precision agriculture, such as precise seeding or ploughing, is guaranteed by vehicle navigation accuracy. A steering angle plays an essential and fundamental role in the function of autonomous vehicle and the path planning because it controls the vehicle direction. However, the steering angle cannot be calibrated directly from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) due to the limitation of GNSS parameters. In addition, the accuracy of steering angle obtained from the analysis of Global Position System (GPS) information cannot satisfy the accuracy requirements in engineering applications. In this paper, a novel approach to improve accuracy of steering angle is proposed. Low-cost Micro-electromechanical System (MEMS) and GPS are combined on an agriculture vehicle so that the steering angle can be calculated precisely. Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF) are used in simulations to estimate the steering angle. The simulation and experiment results show that the proposed method can achieve increased accuracy of estimation of steering angle than that based merely on GPS information. Because the cost of a MEMS gyroscope is very low, the proposed method is a practical way to achieve precision agriculture with high accuracy.

Abstract:High-precision position estimations of agricultural mobile robots (AMRs) are crucial for implementing control instructions. Although the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and real-time kinematic GNSS (RTK-GNSS) provide high-precision positioning, the AMR accuracy decreases when the signals interfere with buildings or trees. An improved position estimation algorithm based on multisensor fusion and autoencoder neural network is proposed. The multisensor, RTK-GNSS, inertial-measurement-unit, and dual-rotary-encoder data are fused with Extended Kalman filter (EKF). To optimize the EKF noise matrix, the autoencoder and radial basis function (ARBF) neural network was used for modeling the state equation noise and EKF measurement equation. A multisensor AMR test platform was constructed for static experiments to estimate the circular error probability and twice-the-distance root-mean-squared criteria. Dynamic experiments were conducted on road, grass, and field environments. To validate the robustness of the proposed algorithm, abnormal working conditions of the sensors were tested on the road. The results showed that the positioning estimation accuracy was improved compared to the RTK-GNSS in all three environments. When the RTK-GNSS signal experienced interference or rotary encoders failed, the system could still improve the position estimation accuracy. The proposed system and optimization algorithm are thus significant for improving AMR position prediction performance.

Abstract:In the field of autonomous driving progresses, obtaining the precise position and attitude of vehicles through measurement technology is vital. An integrated GNSS/INS/Barometer (Global Navigation Satellite System/Inertial Navigation System/Barometer) fusion method is proposed to improve vehicle positioning and heading angle accuracy. An extended Kalman filter (EKF) based on horizontal dilution of precision (HDOP) is designed to fuse the INS error and the GNSS measurement. Furthermore, GNSS dual antennas are utilized to increase a state variable in EKF based on HDOP in addition to position and velocity. The kinematic constraint of zero velocity in the lateral and vertical directions of vehicle movement is used to measure the mounting angle to reduce error. The position and heading angle accuracy of the proposed method are 0.483m and 1.358°, which represent reductions of 37.03% and 43.86% compared to the conventional EKF method, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can measure accurate position and heading angle in both open and occluded environments.

Evaluating the Navigation Performance of Multi-Information Integration Based on Low-End Inertial Sensors for Precision Agriculture

Abstract:The main objective of this research was to evaluate the navigation performance of multi-information integration based on a low-end inertial measurement unit (IMU) in precision agriculture by utilizing different auxiliary information (i.e., GNSS real-time kinematic (RTK), non-holonomic constraints (NHC) and dual antenna GNSS). A series of experiments with different operation scenes (e.g., open sky in wet and dry soils) were carried out for quantitative analysis. For the position drift error during a 20-s GNSS outage, the dual-antenna GNSS-assisted approach did not provide a reduction, and the NHC reduced the maximum error in the lateral and vertical directions by over 80% in the dry soil test, but only by approximately 30% in the wet soil test. The heading error with continuous GNSS assistance can be less than 0.03° and be reduced by more than 90% with the aid of dual-antenna GNSS. Additionally, the NHC reduced the heading error from 0.54° to 0.21° and from 0.34° to 0.25° in the dry and wet soil tests respectively. The results suggested that the multi-information integration improved the positioning and orientation reliability. Moreover, the lateral positioning accuracy required for the control of agriculture autonomous vehicles was achieved at approximately 3.0 mm with over a 60% accuracy improvement brought by the dual-antenna GNSS assistance. In contrast to the vulnerability of a single system, multi-information integration can provide comprehensive navigation information with higher reliability and lower costs. Hence, multi-information fusion will be a great opportunity for agriculture to meet the high-accuracy and high-reliability requirements of precision agriculture.

Abstract:Automatic navigation based on dual-antenna real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning has been widely employed for unmanned agricultural machinery, whereas GNSS inevitably suffers from signal blocking and electromagnetic interference. In order to improve the reliability of an RTK-based navigation system in a GNSS-challenged environment, an integrated navigation system is preferred for autonomous navigation, which increases the complexity and cost of the navigation system. The information fusion of integrated navigation has been dominated by Kalman filter (KF) for several decades, but the KF cannot assimilate the known knowledge of the navigation context efficiently. In this paper, the geometric characteristics of the straight path and path-tracking error were employed to formulate the constraint measurement model, which suppresses the position error in the case of RTK-degraded scenarios. The pseudo-measurements were then imported into the KF framework, and the smoothed navigation state was generated as a byproduct, which improves the reliability of the RTK positioning without external sensors. The experiment result of the mobile vehicle automatic navigation indicates that the tracking error-constrained KF (EC-KF) outperforms the trajectory-constrained KF (TC-KF) and KF when the RTK system outputs a float or single-point position (SPP) solution. In the case where the duration of the SPP solution was 20 s, the positioning errors of the EC-KF and TC-KF were reduced by 38.50% and 24.04%, respectively, compared with those of the KF.

Abstract:Automatic navigation technology for agricultural machines is booming, but the majority of existing research is based on satellite positioning technology. In response to the limited information acquisition capabilities of satellite positioning technology and the insufficient intelligence of agricultural machinery, this study conducted visual/inertial integrated navigation research on riding rice transplanters, using deep learning networks and machine vision to extract guidance routes in paddy fields. The inertial measurement unit (IMU) as well as the vision sensors are jointly calibrated with the attitude and navigation parameters of the rice transplanter as states, and an extended Kalman filter is designed to fuse the information from the outputs of vision and inertial guidance. We designed a PID controller to simulate and compensate for the side-slip conditions that occur in the work of agricultural machines. A real-time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GNSS) is used to calculate the lateral deviation of the navigation in the field experiment. The result shows the lateral deviation of navigation was 0.044 +/- 0.040 m for the straight section and -0.088 +/- 0.143 m for the turning section in a paddy field.
Trends in coastal fish stocks of the Baltic Sea

Abstract:Coastal fish monitoring with multi-mesh gill nets and gill net series is carried out in eleven areas around the Baltic Sea. The purpose of the monitoring is to reveal population status and elucidate long-term trends of fish population and community development. Time series cover 9-20 years of annual monitoring, the last year being 2002. Significant increasing trends of perch and roach catches were observed in the archipelago region of the Sea of Aland and Archipelago Sea. A possible reason for these trends was ongoing coastal eutrophication. Significant trends with opposite directions appeared in two areas in the Gulf of Bothnia and two areas at the Swedish coast of the Baltic Proper. The Curonian Lagoon is severely affected by anthropogenic impact, structuring the local fish community. Indications of decreased eutrophication were noted in the Gulf of Riga. High fishing pressure during the 1990s in the West-Estonian archipelago and the following collapse of coastal fish stocks was apparent in the monitoring catches.
Vision-based Position System for Agricultural Vehicle Using Extended Kalman Filter

Abstract:A real-time positioning system, which consists of a NIR camera, a turning angle sensor, and two encoders, was developed for field vehicle applications. A position-attitude (PA) model was designed and extended Kalman filter was used to integrate the signals from these sensors to output accurate position estimation. An offset sensor was made to measure the real-time vehicle offset with high precision.. Test results showed the position curve was smoothed and the positioning error was reduced compared with a vision-only system. At a vehicle speed of 0.55 m/s, the mean offset was 8.7 mm, comparing to the vision mean offset of 10.5 mm.

Abstract:Field experience with agricultural vehicles has shown the benefit of merging local and global positioning information for a satisfactory performance of autonomously guided vehicles. Global localization sensors provide an adequate procedure to determine the absolute position of a vehicle, but lack the accuracy of local positioning sensors to make available up-to-date centimeterrange spatial information. This project combines the global positioning data obtained from a DGPS receiver with the local information generated by a monocular camera mounted on the front of an agricultural tractor. The fusion technique applied to blend the data from both sensors is based on the Kalman Filter. The selection and definition of the model states and measurements, as well as the noise covariance matrices turned out to be key points in the system behavior. The algorithm was implemented on a tractor driven along an artificially-created curve. Simulation and field test results are presented and discussed in the manuscript. The Kalman filter was able to reduce the effects of noisy trajectories resulting in more stable control commands.

Abstract:Agricultural mechanization information in our country has the main problems existing in the management and utilization. The analysis of China’s agricultural mechanization management model and related software is presented based on combining modern science and technology as well as the development of agricultural mechanization management information system based on network software to standardize the management information collection, processing, storage and transmission, agricultural mechanization management information science, standardization, automation, etc. According to the analysis, the output target speed after fusion is more stable, and the stability is increased by 59.59% compared with the single-point GNSS velocity measurement data, and by 18.32% compared with the data measured by the binocular vision velocity measurement system. It has realized the goal of accurate speed measurement from low speed to high speed. In particular, it has solved the problems such as vehicles unable to complete positioning and vehicle skidding caused by trees blocking GNSS satellite signals during field operations.

Heading Estimation of Robot Combine Harvesters during Turning Maneuveres

Abstract:Absolute heading is an important parameter for a robot combine harvester or a robot tracked combine harvester, especially while it is turning, but due to the rapid turning of robot combine harvesters, its inertial measurement unit gives a gyro measurement bias that causes heading drift. Our research goal is to estimate the absolute heading of robot combine harvesters by compensating this gyro measurement bias during non-linear turning maneuvers. A sensor fusion method like the extended Kalman filter combined with the tracked combine harvester dynamic model and sensor measurements was used to estimate the absolute heading of a robot combine harvester. Circular, sinusoidal and concave shapes were used to evaluate the estimated heading produced by the sensor fusion method. The results indicate that the estimated heading is better than measured heading which was calculated from the integration of yaw rate gyro measurements, and the root mean square errors (RMSEs) for estimated headings are smaller than the measured headings. In practics, the target of this paper is thus the estimation of a heading or absolute heading that is bias compensated, and can be further used to calculate the exact crop periphery for automatic path planning of robot combine harvesters.
Precise and robust sideslip angle estimation based on INS/GNSS integration using invariant extended Kalman filter

Sideslip angle estimation is vital to the safety and active control of autonomous vehicles. In this paper, an innovative vehicle kinematic-based sideslip angle estimation method is proposed. The method is built on multi-sensor fusion, which fuses the information of inertial measurement unit, global navigation satellite system (GNSS), and onboard sensors to continuously estimate the attitude and velocity of the vehicle and thus obtain the sideslip angle. The invariant extended Kalman filter framework is adopted and the left-invariant form is derived to implement the GNSS measurement update. In order to solve the unobservability problem when only a single GNSS receiver is equipped, the vehicle motion constraint is introduced into the filter to improve the accuracy of heading angle estimation. The method is validated by field test and the results show that the method is robust in terms of converge efficiency. Furthermore, the sideslip angle estimation accuracy is satisfactory with the average absolute error less than 0.25°, which meets the active safety control requirements for autonomous driving.

Abstract:When an inertial navigation system (INS) is used to evaluate the performance of an attitude determination system (GADS) based on the global navigation satellite system, the misalignment angles between them should be estimated correctly. The traditional misalignment angle estimation method treats the average attitude differences between GADS and INS as misalignment angles. Hence, the east and north components (levels) of the attitude errors caused by the accelerometer errors are mistakenly treated as misalignment angles. In this study, the level attitude error model is built considering the accelerometer errors. Furthermore, a fast and highly accurate misalignment angle estimation method based on heading-rotation is proposed to estimate the level attitude errors and misalignment angles simultaneously. This proposed method is examined through a turntable test. Abstract:Rocket projectile often uses control mode of rolling in flight,so the dynamic range of roll rates is very high.Accurate real-time measurements of roll rates and roll angles become a key problem of rocket projectile control.High dynamic range single-axis platform INS installs IMU on the platform,drives the platform reversely spinning to the projectile body to isolate high dynamic roll rates by using servo motor,and provides stabilized environment for IMU.The composition and function of the system are introduced,the prototype is set up,and the attitude algorithm of INS is derived.The semi-physical simulation results show that the errors of pitch,heading and roll angle are less than 4 deg,3 deg,and 25 deg respectively within 120 s.Through simulation,the feasibility of this solution and the attitude algorithm of INS are verified.It lays solid foundations for further building single-axis platform integrated navigation system and the high accurate measurements of whole navigation information.

Abstract:Taking advantage of available measurement in Internet of Things (IoT) for intelligent transportation systems, a sideslip angle estimation method for autonomous vehicles is presented and experimentally verified by fusing global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and inertial measurement unit (IMU), and by constructing an observability index (OI). The correlation between the vehicle sideslip error and the inertial navigation system (INS) heading error is presented first. Then, the observability for the heading error in a velocity-based Kalman filter is discussed and a novel index is defined to check the observability of the heading error. The course from a single antenna GNSS in an autonomous vehicle is augmented to estimate the heading error when the observability of the heading error is low. To reject the course measurement for scenarios that include sideslip movement, a binary hypothesis test approach is applied to indicate whether the vehicle is sidesliping. In addition, based on the OI and the sideslip indicator, a hybrid feedback strategy is designed for the heading error correction. To improve the convergence rate of the heading error in the velocity-based Kalman filter, a tuning strategy is presented. The stochastical observability of the designed Kalman observer is investigated for known and stochastic initial conditions. Finally, the proposed sideslip angle estimator is experimentally validated through a vehicle test platform in critical driving scenarios. The results confirm that the proposed OI can effectively identify when the heading error is observable, and also corroborate the effectiveness of the hybrid feedback strategy and adaptation method in the Kalman observer.
