Abstract:Stannous sulfide (SnS) is a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) receiving considerable attention due to its high theoretical capacity. Unfortunately, the practical application of SnS is hampered by the capacity decay resulting from the significant volume swing. Herein, a novel method (hetero temperature field calcination) is innovatively reported for synthesizing SnS nanostructure combined with sponge-like S-doped porous carbon (SnS/SC). Based on this approach, the original morphology of the precursor is retained and the appearance of Sn is avoided, which is inevitable when the precursor and thiourea are in the same temperature field. The sponge-like carbon inherits the porous merit of the precursor, and sulfur doping is achieved by the utilization of thiourea. The sponge-like porous carbon structure enhances the structural stability and kinetics properties of the anode as it mitigates the volume expansion of SnS, improves conductivity, and promotes ion/electron transportation. As a result, the SnS/SC electrode for LIBs exhibits a high initial specific capacity of 1258.8 mAh g −1 and maintains 942.33 mAh g −1 even after 140 cycles, revealing excellent reversibility and cycling performance. The facile method could potentially inspire the synthesis of sulfide anodes for batteries and beyond.
