Abstract:STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:The machining accuracy and marginal integrity of monolithic zirconia crowns with minimal invasive preparations may impact the long-term survival rate of tooth and periodontal health, but studies on the effect of machining method are lacking. PURPOSE:The purpose of this in vitro study was to digitally evaluate the machining accuracy and margin quality of monolithic zirconia crowns fabricated using gel deposition and conventional soft milling processes by comparing 2 different margin types. MATERIAL AND METHODS:A total of 40 monolithic zirconia crowns were produced using gel deposition (Self-glazed Zirconia Group, SGG, n=20) and soft milling (Milled Zirconia Group, MG, n=20). Each group was further divided into 2 subgroups with different margin designs (chamfer and feather-edge). The trueness and fit of crowns were compared using root mean square (RMS) values. Furthermore, the margin quality was examined before and after final sintering with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The Scheirer-Ray-Hare and 2-way ANOVA test analysis nonparametric and parametric data, respectively (α=.05). RESULTS:The trueness analysis revealed that SGG had significantly lower RMS values for both the cameo and intaglio areas compared with MG (P<.001). In addition, crowns with a feather-edge margin exhibited significantly lower marginal RMS values than those with a chamfer margin (P<.01) according to the fit assessment. Followed by milling processes, SGG exhibited a constantly homogeneous microstructure compared with MG. Marginal defects were detected in both groups except for the SGG with the chamfer margin. CONCLUSIONS:SGG exhibited better accuracy associated with ductile-regime machining than MG, and SGG with chamfer margins displayed flaw-free margin areas. Moreover, the feather-edge margin showed improved marginal fit compared with the chamfer margin.

Abstract:STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:Nanoparticle jetting (NPJ) is a novel ceramic 3D-printing technology with high printing accuracy. However, studies reporting the accuracy of zirconia crowns manufactured by NPJ and comparing them with conventional zirconia crowns are lacking. PURPOSE:The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the trueness, crown fit, and margin quality of monolithic zirconia crowns manufactured by NPJ with those milled by a computer numerical control system. MATERIAL AND METHODS:A gypsum left mandibular first molar was prepared and scanned with an intraoral scanner (TRIOS 4). Three types of monolithic crowns were manufactured through 3D printing and subtractive manufacturing (SM): NPJ (3D printing), VITA (milling), UPCERA (milling). The crowns were scanned, and the dimensional deviation (trueness) was evaluated and compared by using a software program. The triple scan method was used to measure crown fit and uniform index through precise alignment in the software program, and margin quality was also observed with an optical microscope. The data were analyzed with 1-way analysis of variance and the Tukey post hoc test (α=.05). RESULTS:The NPJ group reported better trueness of all crown and axial surfaces compared with the other SM group (P<.001), but marginal trueness (P=.601), intaglio surface (P=.596), and occlusal surface (P=.641) were statistically similar compared with the Vita milled group. All 3 groups reported clinically acceptable crown fit and uniformity with statistically similar values (P>.05). The NPJ group had more crowns judged to have flawless margin quality compared with the milled groups. CONCLUSIONS:All 3 manufacturing methods can fabricate zirconia crowns with a clinically acceptable crown fit. The NPJ system could be used to manufacture monolithic zirconia crowns with better margin quality and proximal surface trueness than milled crowns.
Accuracy of Zirconia Crowns Manufactured by Stereolithography with an Occlusal Full-Supporting Structure: an in Vitro Study.

Abstract:STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:Additive manufacturing is emerging as an alternative method of fabricating dental restorations, but the support design needs to be optimized. PURPOSE:The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the 3-dimensional trueness and adaptations of zirconia crowns manufactured by stereolithography (SLA) with an occlusal full-supporting structure, compared with those SLA-printed with pillar supports, and those made by milling. MATERIAL AND METHODS:A zirconia abutment was prepared, and an anatomic contour crown was designed. The crowns were manufactured by SLA and milling (n=6). For SLA manufacturing, a full-supporting base and pillar supports were designed. The 3-dimensional (3D) trueness of the fabricated crowns was characterized by 3D deviation analysis. The adaptations of crowns in the SLA-base and milling groups were measured by using a triple-scan method. Color-difference maps and the root mean square (RMS) values were used to characterize the 3D trueness. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc test were used to analyze the difference in RMS values among the 3 groups, and Student t test was used to analyze the difference in cement-gap width between the milling group and the SLA group with the full-supporting base (α=.05). RESULTS:The 3D deviation analysis showed that in the external area, the RMS value of the SLA-pillar group was significantly higher than that of the SLA-base and the milling groups (P<.05). In the intaglio area, the milling group showed a lower RMS value than the 2 SLA groups (P<.05). The color-difference maps showed the SLA-base group had smaller positive errors at the cusp inclines than the SLA-pillar group. No statistically significant difference was found in adaptations between the SLA-base and milling groups (P>.05). CONCLUSIONS:The occlusal full-supporting base provided improved support in fabricating the crowns, and no remnants were left after removal. The zirconia crowns manufactured by SLA with an occlusal full-supporting structure had good external 3D trueness and clinically acceptable adaptation.
Peri-implant Marginal Bone Changes with Implant-Supported Metal-Ceramic or Monolithic Zirconia Single Crowns: A Retrospective Clinical Study of 1 to 5 Years.

Abstract:Statement of problem. Monolithic zirconia has excellent mechanical and biologic properties. However, evidence of the clinical properties of implant-supported monolithic zirconia prostheses is limited.Purpose. The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to compare the peri-implant marginal bone changes of metal-ceramic and monolithic zirconia single crowns in the posterior region after prosthetic loading.Material and methods. A total of 224 participants treated with 327 implants restored with either metal-ceramic or monolithic zirconia single crowns in the posterior region between 2012 and 2016 were included in this study. Clinical outcomes, including the plaque index, peri-implant probing depth, and bleeding on probing, were recorded, and the marginal bone level was recorded by using the panoramic radiographs obtained at implant placement, second-stage surgery, and the most recent follow-up visit. The included parameters were analyzed with the nonparametric Mann-Whitney tests (a=.05).Results. The mean follow-up time was 30.4 months, and the cumulative survival rate of implants was 100% and that of the prostheses was 99.1%. The plaque index was 0.46 in the metal -ceramic group, which was significantly higher (P<.05) than 0.37 in the monolithic zirconia group. However, no significant differences (P>.05) were observed in peri-implant probing depth and bleeding on probing between the 2 groups. The marginal bone level at implant placement, second-stage surgery, and the most recent follow-up visit was above the implant platform in both the metal-ceramic and monolithic zirconia groups. The marginal bone changes of the metal-ceramic group was 0.31 mm in the healing period and 0.38 mm in the prosthetic loading period, while in the monolithic zirconia group, it was 0.25 mm in the healing period and 0.43 mm in the prosthetic loading period; no significant differences (P>.05) were observed between the 2 groups.Conclusions. The peri-implant marginal bone level change was comparable after prosthetic loading for metal-ceramic and monolithic zirconia single crowns, although monolithic zirconia was associated with reduced plaque. Abstract:Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of zirconia crowns fabricated using stereolithography (SLA) and digital light processing (DLP) methods and to compare their accuracy with those fabricated using the subtractive manufacturing(SM) method. Methods A typodont model with a prepped maxillary first molar was scanned, and the anatomical contour crown was designed using dental computer-aided-design (CAD) software. The designed file in standard tessellation language (STL) format was used to fabricate 10 crowns per group. The crowns were manufactured using a dental milling machine (Datron D5; MLC group), SLA (CERAMAKER 900; SLAC group), and DLP(ZIPRO; DLPC group) printer. The fabricated crowns were scanned using a dental laboratory scanner and saved in three parts: the external, intaglio, and marginal surfaces. For accuracy assessment, root mean square (RMS) values were evaluated using three-dimensional analysis software (Geomagic Control X). Statistical significance was evaluated using a nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis test (α = 0.05) and a post-hoc Mann–Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction (α = 0.016). Results Trueness evaluation revealed the lowest RMS value in all areas in the MLC group, followed by that in the DLPC group. The precision evaluation revealed the lowest RMS value in all areas in the MLC group. Statistically significant differences were observed among the groups in the external, intaglio, and marginal surface ( P < 0.05). Conclusions Crowns manufactured using SLA and DLP methods were considered clinically acceptable. Clinical Significance In the production of zirconia crowns, subtractive manufacturing continues to demonstrate significantly higher accuracy compared to additive manufacturing. However, since crowns fabricated using the additive manufacturing method also demonstrated high accuracy, it appears to be a method that can replace subtractive manufacturing.

Abstract:Background: In everyday dentistry, monolithic single crowns can be cemented with self-adhesive resin cements. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate how the marginal adaptation of full monolithic zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) single crowns is influenced by three different self-adhesive resin cements. Methods: Forty-five typodont teeth fully prepared for full monolithic crowns were divided into three groups (fifteen each) for the use of three different self-adhesive resin cements. A fourth control group (Temp-bond) was created by taking five teeth from each group before cementation with self-adhesive resin cements. All forty-five abutments were scanned using a Primescan intra-oral scanner (IOS), followed by computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) of zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) full crowns using a four-axis machine. Initially, the crowns of the control group were fixed to the abutments using Temp-bond, and the marginal gap was evaluated using a scanning electronic microscope (SEM). After removing the control group crowns from the abutments, fifteen crowns in each group were cemented using a different self-adhesive resin cement and observed under SEM for evaluation of the marginal gap. A Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was performed, indicating no normal distribution (p < 0.05), followed by Mann–Whitney tests (α = 0.05). Results: The total mean marginal gap of the temp-bond control group was significantly lower compared to all three groups of self-adhesive resin cement (p < 0.0005). The total mean marginal gap of the G-cem ONE group was significantly lower compared to the TheraCem group (p < 0.026) and RelyX U200 group (p < 0.008). The total mean marginal gap of the TheraCem group was significantly higher than the G-cem ONE group (p 0.110). Conclusions: All four groups showed a clinically acceptable marginal gap (<120 microns). Although all three groups of self-adhesive resin cement showed a significant increase in the marginal gap compared to the temp-bond control group, they were within the limits of clinical acceptability. Regarding the marginal gap, in everyday dentistry, it is acceptable to use all three self-adhesive resin cements, although the G-cem ONE group exhibited the lowest marginal gap for ZLS single crowns.

Abstract:Despite high levels of exposure to stress, questions remain regarding how social interactions and beliefs about emotion interact to influence posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in firefighters. United States urban firefighters (N = 225) completed the Interpersonal Support Evaluation List, the Unsupportive Social Interactions Inventory, the Affective Control Scale, and the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist. Each independent variable predicted PTSD beyond variance accounted for by demographic variables. Additionally, fear of emotion emerged as the strongest individual predictor of PTSD and a moderator of the relation between social interactions and PTSD symptoms. These findings emphasize the importance of beliefs about emotion both in how these beliefs might influence the expression of PTSD symptoms, and in how the social networks of trauma survivors might buffer distress.
Three-Dimensional Analysis of Internal Adaptations of Crowns Cast from Resin Patterns Fabricated Using Computer-Aided Design/Computer- Assisted Manufacturing Technologies

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the internal adaptations of cast crowns made from resin patterns produced using three different computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing technologies. Materials and Methods: A full-crown abutment made of zirconia was digitized using an intraoral scanner, and the design of the crown was finished on the digital model. Resin patterns were fabricated using a fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printer (LT group), a digital light projection (DLP) 3D printer (EV group), or a five-axis milling machine (ZT group). All patterns were cast in cobalt-chromium alloy crowns. Crowns made from traditional handmade wax patterns (HM group) were used as controls. Each group contained 10 samples. The internal gaps of the patterns were analyzed using a 3D replica method and optical digitization. The results were compared using Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance (ANOVA), a one-sample t test, and signed rank test (alpha = .05). Results: For the LT group, the marginal and axial gaps were significantly larger than in the other three groups (P < .05), but the occlusal adaptation did not reveal a significant difference (P > .05). In the ZT group, the axial gap was slightly smaller than in the HM group (P < .0083). All the means of gaps in all areas in the four groups were less than 150 mu m. Conclusion: Casting crowns using casting patterns made from all three CAD/CAM systems could not produce the prescribed parameters, but the crowns showed clinically acceptable internal adaptations.
The Impact of Open versus Closed Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing Systems on the Marginal Gap of Zirconia-Reinforced Lithium Silicate Single Crowns Evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy: A Comparative In Vitro Study

Abstract:This study aimed to compare the impact of CAD/CAM closed systems and open systems on the marginal gap of monolithic zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) ceramic crowns, as both systems are used in everyday dentistry, both chair-side and laboratory. For the closed system, 20 plastic teeth were scanned by a Primescan intra-oral scanner (IOS), and for the open system, the same number of plastic teeth were scanned by Trios 4 IOS. For the closed system, CEREC software was used, and for the open system, EXOCAD software was used. All 40 ZLS crowns were grinded by the same four-axis machine and cemented with Temp-bond, followed by self-adhesive resin cement. For each type of cement, an evaluation of the marginal gap was conducted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Before comparisons between the groups, a Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed on the study variables showing a normal distribution (p > 0.05). Independent T tests (α = 0.05) and paired-sample T tests (α = 0.05) were used. The independent T test found no significant mean marginal gap differences in the zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate crowns bonded with Temp-bond and scanned by Primescan (28.09 μm ± 3.06) compared to Trios 4 (28.94 μm ± 3.30) (p = 0.401), and there was no significant mean marginal gap differences in zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate crowns bonded with self-adhesive resin cement (Gcem ONE) and scanned by Primescan (46.70 μm ± 3.80) compared to Trios 4 (47.79 μm ± 2.59) (p = 0.295). Paired-sample T tests showed significantly higher mean marginal gaps with Gcem ONE compared to Temp-bond for the total mean marginal gap when scanning with Primescan (p = 0.0005) or Trios 4 (p = 0.0005). In everyday dentistry, both closed systems (Primescan with Cerec) and open systems (Trios 4 with Exocad) can be used to achieve an acceptable (<120 µm) marginal gap for ZLS CELTRA® DUO single crowns. There is a significant difference between cementation with Temp-bond and Gcem ONE self-adhesive resin cement (p < 0.05).

Abstract:Statement of problem: Advanced additive manufacturing (AM) of zirconia is an emerging technology that can explore the limitations of traditional computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) milling techniques. However, a comprehensive evaluation of their differences in producing zirconia restorations, especially multi-unit restorations, is lacking. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the accuracy, fit, marginal quality, and surface roughness of zirconia 3-unit fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) by using advanced AM and 2 CAD-CAM milling materials. Material and methods: Based on the same CAD model, 30 3-unit posterior FDPs (n=10) were manufactured by using AM and 2 CAD-CAM milling materials (VT and UP). The accuracies of the total, intaglio, occlusal, axial, and marginal regions were calculated separately by comparing the scanned model with the design model by using 3-dimensional (3D) deviation analysis. The silicone layer was scanned to evaluate the marginal and intaglio fit in 3 dimensions. A 3D laser microscope was used for surface roughness detection, marginal quality assessment, and marginal defect measurement. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and the Tukey post hoc test (α=.05). Results: Compared with CAD-CAM milling, the AM group had higher accuracy and smaller positive deviations on the axial and intaglio regions (P<.001). Different manufacturing methods showed no statistically significant effect on the mean intaglio fit (P>.05), and all were within the clinically acceptable range (<100 µm). The intaglio gap was significantly higher than the target parameter in the occlusal regions. AM-fabricated FDPs had significantly higher surface roughness than milled ones, yet showed better margin quality with fewer marginal defects CONCLUSIONS: Compared with CAD-CAM milling, the advanced additively manufactured zirconia 3-unit FDPs provided better accuracy, improved margin quality, and clinically acceptable fit, but higher surface roughness, and may be a promising alternative for clinical applications.
Digital Evaluation of Absolute Marginal Discrepancy: A Comparison of Ceramic Crowns Fabricated with Conventional and Digital Techniques

Abstract:Statement of problem. Marginal discrepancy is key to evaluating the accuracy of fixed dental prostheses. An improved method of evaluating marginal discrepancy is needed. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the absolute marginal discrepancy of ceramic crowns fabricated using conventional and digital methods with a digital method for the quantitative evaluation of absolute marginal discrepancy. The novel method was based on 3-dimensional scanning, iterative closest point registration techniques, and reverse engineering theory. Material and methods. Six standard tooth preparations for the right maxillary central incisor, right maxillary second premolar, right maxillary second molar, left mandibular lateral incisor, left mandibular first premolar, and left mandibular first molar were selected. Ten conventional ceramic crowns and 10 CEREC crowns were fabricated for each tooth preparation. A dental cast scanner was used to obtain 3-dimensional data of the preparations and ceramic crowns, and the data were compared with the "virtual seating" iterative closest point technique. Reverse engineering software used edge sharpening and other functional modules to extract the margins of the preparations and crowns. Finally, quantitative evaluation of the absolute marginal discrepancy of the ceramic crowns was obtained from the 2-dimensional cross-sectional straight-line distance between points on the margin of the ceramic crowns and the standard preparations based on the circumferential function module along the long axis. Results. The absolute marginal discrepancy of the ceramic crowns fabricated using conventional methods was 115 +/- 15.2 and 110 +/- 14.3 mu m for those fabricated using the digital technique was. ANOVA showed no statistical difference between the 2 methods or among ceramic crowns for different teeth (P>.05). Conclusions. The digital quantitative evaluation method for the absolute marginal discrepancy of ceramic crowns was established. The evaluations determined that the absolute marginal discrepancies were within a clinically acceptable range. This method is acceptable for the digital evaluation of the accuracy of complete crowns.

The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the performance of stereolithography (SLA) and milling in fabricating monolithic zirconia crowns with different finish line designs. Full-contour crowns with three finish lines (chamfer, rounded shoulder, knife-edge) were designed and fabricated by SLA and milling. Fabrication accuracy was accessed by 3D deviation analysis and margin quality was characterized under microscopes. The obtained root mean square value was significantly influenced by finish line design (P < 0.05) but not by fabrication method (P > 0.05). However, the color-difference map showed crowns fabricated by SLA and milling had different error distribution in external surfaces. SLA-printed crowns exhibited margins of rounded line angle and without small flaws, although large chippings were found in knife-edged crowns. In milling group, crowns showed margins of sharp line angle and with separate chippings. More and larger margin chippings were found in knife-edged crowns by milling. The results indicate that SLA and milling can fabricate monolithic zirconia crowns of comparable accuracy and knife-edged crowns are prone to large margin chippings by either of the two manufacturing methods.

Abstract:Background: This research aimed to evaluate the marginal and internal gaps of crowns, which were produced using both digital and conventional impression techniques and cemented with various types of cement. Material and methods: For the full ceramic crown restoration, an anatomically prepared acrylic first molar phantom tooth (Frasaco GmbH, Germany) was scanned with Scanner S600 ARTI (Zirkonzahn). 160 PMMA analogues produced from the milling unit. Two impression methods were used: digital impressions by intraoral scanner (Aadva Intra Oral 3D Scanner, GC) and PVS impression. Cerasmart, Initial LRF Block, Zirconia Prettau and ICE Zircon monolithic blocks milled with M1 Milling Unit (Zirkonzahn). Restorations cemented with light-cured and dual-cured cements. (n = 10) Pre and post-cementation 3D images overlap was performed using Geomagic Control X (3D Systems, NC, USA). Data were analysed by using SPSS 25.0. p<0.05 difference was considered significant. Results: Digital impressions were significantly higher than PVS impressions in all groups (p<0.05). A significant difference was found between the materials (p<0.05). Cerasmart showed a significantly more marginal gap than the other groups. Prettau and ICE Zircon crowns with the conventional impression group showed a significantly smaller marginal gap than the others. Conclusions: Monolithic crowns fabricated by CAD-CAM using the digital and conventional impression methods had clinically acceptable marginal and internal gaps. Crowns cemented with dual-cured cements showed significantly more marginal gap than light-cure groups. Key words:3D scanning, Marginal accuracy, Marginal fit, Monolithic crown.

Abstract:A BSTRACT Background: Marginal and internal adaptation are key factors that determine the clinical success of dental restorations. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of crowns fabricated with three different CAD-CAM zirconia materials; two monolithic zirconia materials and one veneered zirconia copings in comparison with conventional metal-ceramic crowns. Material and Methods: Ninety-six extracted molars ( n = 96) were selected. Teeth were randomly divided into four groups ( n = 24), and the following restorations were fabricated: Metal-ceramic crowns (Control group) (Group CG); monolithic zirconia crowns (GC initial) (Group MZ1); monolithic zirconia crowns (InCoris TZI),(Group MZ2); bilayered zirconia crowns, cores (InCoris ZI) veneered with a low-fusing glass-ceramic (IPS Emax Ceram),(Group BZ). Internal and marginal adaptations were evaluated using the silicone replica technique. A total of 20 points were recorded for every tooth under the light microscope at 20x magnifications. Results were compared using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the post hoc Tukey’s test at a significance level of 0.01. Results: Marginal, marginal-internal, axial, and occlusal gaps between CG, MZ1, MZ2, and BZ crowns showed statistically significant differences ( P < 0.01). Conclusion: Monolithic zirconia groups showed better marginal adaptation compared with the veneered zirconia crowns.

Abstract:The clinical presentation of type 1 diabetes is preceded by an asymptomatic latent period characterized by the presence of diabetes-associated autoantibodies in the peripheral circulation, reflecting β-cell damage. This prediabetic period may last for months and years. Several studies observing genetically susceptible subjects from birth have shown that insulin autoantibodies (IAA) are the first or among the first autoantibodies to appear in young children, implying that insulin may be the primary autoantigen in most cases of childhood type 1 diabetes. About 12–16% of siblings of children with type 1 diabetes have been observed to test positive for at least one diabetes-associated autoantibody, whereas the risk of diabetes among siblings has been estimated to be 6–8%. In parallel, close to 4% of Finnish schoolchildren tested positive for at least one diabetes-associated autoantibody; the lifetime risk of type 1 diabetes in the Finnish population has been estimated to be close to 1%. These observations suggest that only 25–50% of those with signs of β-cell autoimmunity eventually progress to clinical type 1 diabetes. Accordingly there is a considerable proportion of children in whom β-cell autoimmunity remains subclinical or is aborted. Positivity for only one diabetes-associated autoantibody may actually represent innocent β-cell autoimmunity, while positivity for two or more autoantibodies seems to mark a point of no return. The autoimmune reponse is very dynamic in the early phase of prediabetes, with spreading from one antigen to another and from one epitope to another within a given antigen. In addition both isotype spreading and switching can be observed in early prediabetes. This indicates that the early prediabetic process may be a suitable target for immunomodulation aimed at delaying or preventing progression to clinical diabetes.
Dimensional accuracy and internal and marginal fit evaluation of Co-Cr crowns prepared by SLM

Abstract:Objective: To study the dimensional accuracy of the Co-Cr crowns prepared by selective laser melting(SLM) technology and to evaluate their internal and marginal fit by "Virtual seating". Methods: The Co-Cr metal crowns were fabricated with 2 different methods(n = 10): milling wax with lost-wax method in the control group and SLM in the test group. After collecting the data of the die and crowns, "virtual seating" was completed by the software of reverse engineering. The gaps between the die and crowns on the 2D cross-sectional were measured by the same software. At last, crowns were cemented on the dies. And the thickness of the crowns and the cement films were measured under a scanning electron microscope. Data were statistically analyzed. Results: The most appropriate pre-set die spacer thickness was 50 μm. The relative errors of the crown thickness of SLM group and the control group were 1. 80％ and 2. 20％ respectively(P＞ 0. 05). No statistically significant difference was found in both internal and marginal fit between the 2 groups (P＞ 0. 05). And there was no statistical difference between the 2 measuring methods (P＞ 0. 05). Conclusion: SLM technique achieves clinically values for internal and marginal fit. "Virtual seating" can be used for evaluate crown dimensional accuracy.

Abstract:Statement of problem The adaptation of digitally produced crowns is affected by the design software program and manufacturing method. The effect of artificial intelligence (AI) software program design on the adaptation of the crowns is unclear and comparative evaluations should be documented. Purpose The purpose of this study was to assess the marginal and internal gaps, the absolute marginal discrepancies, and the 3-dimensional (3D) discrepancy volumes of the resin-based milled and 3D printed crowns for primary teeth designed with computer-aided design (CAD) and AI software programs by using microcomputed tomography (μCT). Material and methods A total of 40 resin-based esthetic crowns were produced for a prepared typodont tooth (right mandibular primary second molar) according to the design software program (CAD and AI) and manufacturing method (milling and 3D printing) (n=10). Four experimental groups were generated as CAD-milled, CAD-3D printed, AI-milled, and AI-3D printed. The marginal, axial, and occlusal gap values, the absolute marginal discrepancies, and the 3D discrepancy volumes of the specimens were measured by using μCT. The data were analyzed by using 2-way ANOVA and the Tukey HSD tests (α=.05). Results The lowest value for the marginal gap (54 ±43 μm) was observed in the CAD-milled group and the marginal gap value of the AI-3D printed group was significantly lower than the AI-milled group ( P <.05). The lowest value for the axial gap (63 ±7 μm) was observed in the AI-3D printed group, and the highest value (145 ±58 μm) was observed in the CAD-milled group; the result for the occlusal gap value was opposite. The highest absolute marginal discrepancy value was observed in the CAD-milled group. The 3D discrepancy volumes increased in the order of the CAD-3D printed, AI-milled, CAD-milled, and AI-3D printed groups. Conclusions The marginal and internal gap values of the resin-based crowns were affected by the design software program and manufacturing method; however, tested groups showed clinically acceptable gap values.
