Abstract:The objective of the study was to determine the short-term success rate of short and wide single-tooth implants, immediately placed into extraction sockets of the posterior area. A retrospective cohort study design was used. A total of 145 subjects received 162 short and wide-diameter single-tooth implants between 2006 and 2009. A minimal 7-mm residual height and 9-mm ridge width was available in all the implant sites, and the attached gingivae were at least 2 mm wide. All implants were placed and restored with the single crown by one experienced operator. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. All implants were placed in molar areas. There were 20 Ankylos implants with a diameter 5.5 or 7 mm and a length of 8 mm and 142 hydroxyapatite-coated implants with a diameter 5 or 6 mm and a length of 5.7 to 8 mm. One of the 162 implants failed before prosthetic restoration, resulting in a survival rate of 99.4% after loading. Patients were followed for up to 56 months (mean = 24 months) after loading of implants. The radiographic and clinical data revealed well-maintained hard and soft tissues with acceptable short-term results. For residual ridges with minimal height but adequate width, the immediate placement of short and wide-diameter implants in fresh extraction sockets may offer a simple and predictable treatment alternative if implants are positioned appropriately after a thorough preoperative analysis.
Clinical and Radiographic Evaluation of a Small-Diameter Dental Implant Used for the Restoration of Patients with Permanent Tooth Agenesis (Hypodontia) in the Maxillary Lateral Incisor and Mandibular Incisor Regions: A 36-Month Follow-Up

Abstract:Purpose: For patients with narrow, single-tooth edentulous ridges as a result of permanent tooth agenesis (hypodontia) in the maxillary lateral and mandibular incisor regions, dental implant treatment may present a reliable and predictable restorative treatment solution. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical reliability and outcome of small-diameter dental implants placed in a one-stage procedure with early loading replacing maxillary lateral or mandibular incisor teeth. Materials and methods: Patients with hypodontia in the maxillary lateral incisor or mandibular incisor region analyzed in this report were selected from a larger prospective multicenter study. Small-diameter dental implants (AstraTech OsseoSpeed TX 3.0 S, Dentsply) of different lengths were placed using a one-stage surgical protocol with a 6- to 10-week healing period before loading. Probing pocket depth, bleeding on probing, and gingival zenith score were assessed after 6, 12, 24, and 36 months. Radiographic examination was assessed at 6, 12, and 36 months. Results: In total, 38 patients were included in this analysis and 62 small-diameter implants were placed. The mean distance between adjacent teeth was 6.30 mm (SD: 1.36). All patients received a titanium transmucosal abutment and cement-retained ceramic crown after 6 to 10 weeks of healing. Two implants were lost during the healing period before loading, providing a total implant survival rate of 96.8%. No implant fractures were reported. Mean marginal bone level change from surgery to follow-up visits at 6, 12, and 36 months were 0.39 mm, 0.22 mm, and 0.23 mm, respectively. The condition of soft tissue was stable at all follow-up visits with clinically insignificant changes in probing depth, bleeding on probing, and gingival zenith score. Conclusion: This study evaluated the behavior over 36 months of AstraTech Osseospeed TX 3.0 S dental implants placed into narrow one-tooth defect edentulous ridges as a result of hypodontia. The data collected highlighted the stability of the marginal bone level and soft tissues around the dental implants in conjunction with durable mechanical function. Small-diameter implants can be considered a valid solution in the restorative treatment of hypodontia in the maxillary lateral and mandibular incisor regions.
Agenesis of multiple primary and permanent teeth unilaterally and its possible management

Abstract:Oligodontia is the agenesis of numerous teeth (more than six teeth). Agenesis of teeth in primary and permanent dentition is a rare incidence and very few are reported in the dental literature. Although the etiology of congenital agenesis of teeth is unclear, several factors such as a tendency toward genetic predilection, metabolic disorders, trauma, infection, radiation or idiopathic reasons are found to be responsible. Available literature reports agenesis most often of third molars, maxillary lateral incisors, mandibular central and lateral incisors, and mandibular second premolars in decreasing order of frequency of occurrence. Males are more often affected than females. Maxillary primary teeth are more often found affected by agenesis than mandibular primary teeth. Available literature reports missing teeth to be found unilaterally or orbilaterally with a predisposition toward a similar phenomenon occurring in the permanent dentition. In congenital agenesis impaired growth of the alveolar process, reduced lower facial height, speech impairment, deep bite, restriction in the movement of the tongue due to ankyloglossia, asymmetry of the affected side of the face are clinical features evident. There has been no report of complete agenesis of primary and permanent teeth in a whole mandibular quadrant in conjunction with the absence of maxillary second and third molars on the affected side. Here, we report an incidence of a rare occurrence of complete agenesis of more than 10 primary and permanent teeth, unilaterally, in the right mandibular quadrant, in a child of 10 years presenting with a chief complaint of several missing primary teeth and difficulty in speech due to its complete absence. Treatment strategies included various orthodontic and restorative procedures to improve esthetics and function. The orthodontic procedures involved expansion of the narrow maxillary arch to obtain a functionally adapted occlusion and creation of space for future alignment, and uprighting and protecting maxillary right posteriors to accommodate the tongue and rectify speech. Restorative procedures involved fabrication of a removable partial denture as a temporary measure to restore missing teeth, improve esthetics, give lingual support to the lower lip, prevent further downward growth of the right maxillary ridge and to prevent supra eruption of these teeth.
Esthetic Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation of Patient with Central Incisor Agenesis

Abstract:ABSTRACT Aim The aim of this case report was to restore the esthetic smile of a patient with agenesis of maxillary right central incisor, while discussing the most important topics in a multidisciplinary approach. Background Due to the absence or loss of some teeth in the anterior region, it becomes a challenge in oral rehabilitation. Restoration of function and esthetics may require a multidisciplinary treatment that can start with periodontal, orthodontic, surgical, implantology, or restorative evaluation. Case report A 28-year-old patient with agenesis of the maxillary right central incisor was looking to improve the esthetics of his smile. The patient had right superior lateral incisor positioned in place of the central and the canine in the position corresponding to the lateral incisor, which compromised the dental and gingival esthetics. After analyses and digital smile design (DSD), surgeries for gingival smile correction, gingivectomy (teeth 12, 14, and 15), and gingival tissue grafts (tooth 13) were made. After a period of 2 months, preparations were made on teeth 12, 13, and 14 for ceramic laminates following the initial DSD. After 1 year of cementation, maintenance and stability of gingival margin, as well as the integrity of laminate ceramic were observed. Conclusion In conclusion, a correct prior planning of esthetic rehabilitation is the best way to achieve excellent results to meet the needs and objectives of each patient. Often, a multidisciplinary treatment involving surgical and restorative procedures should be taken into consideration, with the appropriate choice of techniques and materials to be used. Clinical significance The treatment performed on the patient allowed the esthetic improvement of gingival architecture and installation of ceramic restorations with function and esthetics similar to natural teeth. Abstract:Introduction To present the 3‐year clinical, radiographic, and aesthetic outcomes in patients with congenitally missing lateral incisors rehabilitated with two narrow‐diameter implants (NDIs). Methods The original population consisted of 100 patients rehabilitated with a cement‐retained bi‐layered zirconia single‐unit crown supported by either a Ø2.9 mm (Test) or a Ø3.3 mm (Control) NDI (n = 50). At the 1‐ and 3‐year follow‐up (T2, T3), implant survival rate, crestal bone level (CBL) changes, biological, and technical complications were recorded, while the assessment of the aesthetic outcomes was performed using the Copenhagen Index Score. Results Seventy‐four patients Ø2.9 mm (n = 39) or Ø3.3 mm (n = 35) reached T3, as 24 patients were lost to follow‐up and 1 implant (Ø3.3 mm) was removed. Throughout the observation period, minimal CBL changes (i.e., 0.05). Conclusion The use of 2.9 or 3.3 diameter implants showed comparable favorable mid‐term results in terms of survival rate, CBL, and aesthetic outcomes. Hence, clinicians should rely on the use of such NDIs when replacing maxillary lateral incisors.

Abstract:Statement of problem: The maxillary lateral incisor is often congenitally missing in patients with a cleft palate. The congenital cleft presents the practitioner with challenges including quantity and quality of bone, a surgically managed cleft correction, and limited clinical space. Purpose: The purpose of this investigation was to calculate the 5-year success and survival rate of narrow-diameter implants used to restore a missing lateral incisor in patients with a cleft palate. Material and methods: Fourteen study participants with a cleft palate and a missing maxillary lateral incisor were enrolled based on established criteria. Seventeen narrow-diameter implants (AstraTech OsseoSpeed 3.0S and OsseoSpeed TX 3.5 mm) were placed using a 2-stage protocol and restored with a custom titanium abutment and a cement-retained crown. Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed annually for 5 years. Four probe depth measurements were measured and evaluated using an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) with Tukey-Kramer multiple comparisons tests. Radiographic marginal bone loss was measured annually using a digital subtraction technique and evaluated with ANCOVA, and the least square mean was derived. The restoration was evaluated using Pink (PES) and White (WES) Esthetic scores. Results: Regarding probing depth measurements, a significant variance was found between the 4 locations (P<.001), and a linear effect of year was also found (P=.005). The multiple comparisons tests showed the mean buccal probe depth was lower compared with the mean at each of the other 3 locations (P≤.039) from baseline to 5-year follow-up. The least square mean ±standard deviation of the marginal bone loss over the 5-year entire study was 0.55 ±0.088 mm. Regarding prosthesis evaluation, the mean score for PES was 6.15 and 6.63 for the WES with a maximum score of 10. The level for clinical acceptance was set at a total score of 6. To meet the criteria for success over the 5-year period, no more than 2.3 mm of total bone loss was acceptable. The number of implants that met the criteria for success at 5 years was 92%. Regarding survival, the number of implants still in place, functional, and asymptomatic at 5 years was 100%. Conclusions: Based on the findings, the peri-implant soft tissue probe depths exhibited significant change during the 5-year investigation. Regarding esthetic outcomes, single tooth NDI for replacing a lateral incisor in the cleft patient is a clinically acceptable treatment. Narrow-diameter implants may be a reliable treatment for replacing a missing lateral incisor in patients with a cleft at 5-year follow-up with an implant survival rate of 100% and a success rate of 92%.

Abstract:Objective Agenesis of the maxillary permanent lateral incisors is a condition that requires treatment aimed at improving the esthetics, even at an early age. However, traditional therapeutic protocols are long, invasive and have limitations and contraindications imposed by the age of the patient. Clinical Considerations Recent developments in restorative dentistry have provided a new approach to this clinical situation, in particular when the deciduous laterals are retained. We report two cases regarding the management of missing lateral incisors using Biologically Active Intrasulcular Restoration (BAIR) technique. The BAIR technique allows us to transform the shape of the deciduous lateral incisor into the permanent, acting both on the dental morphology and proportions, and on the appearance of the soft tissues and the gingival parables. Conclusions The BAIR technique is a valid approach to cases of agenesis of the maxillary permanent lateral incisors, when the deciduous are retained. It does not require any preparation of the dental tissues, is reversible and minimally invasive. It is applicable to patients of all ages, and results are obtained in a single appointment. Clinical Significance The BAIR technique allows a biomimetic conservative approach for the rehabilitation of congenitally missing permanent lateral incisors, when the deciduous are retained. It is a non‐invasive protocol and effective in successfully restoring esthetics.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to show a case of an impacted canine in an adult patient with agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor treated with clear aligners (CA). A 19-year-old male with a persistence of 5.3 and absence of 1.2 came to our department of the School of Orthodontics at the University of Federico II in Naples and asked for an aesthetic treatment. The Canine First approach was used to surgically expose the canine and pull it into the dental arch. In order to ensure long-term aesthetic, periodontal, and occlusal results, a treatment with CAs to close the space through the mesial placement of the canine and the enameloplasty of the tooth crown was performed. At the end of the treatment, the occlusal objectives were achieved.

Abstract:Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate the cephalometric and dentoalveolar characteristics of maxillary lateral incisor agenesis patients, and to compare the findings to a matched control group without tooth agenesis, excluding third molars, from the same population. Methods: The pre-orthodontic records of 72 non-growing patients, who were treated at the Orthodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, were used to address the aim of this retrospective study. Patients having unilateral or bilateral maxillary lateral incisor agenesis, with no history of previous orthodontic treatment, congenital craniofacial malformations, facial trauma, or surgeries were divided into two test groups based on the pattern of maxillary lateral incisors agenesis (group I: unilateral (UMLIA), group II: bilateral (BMLIA)). A control group (group III (CTRL)) having a complete set of permanent dentition (excluding third molars), and having no dental anomalies was age-matched with the test groups. Measurements were performed on the pre-orthodontic lateral cephalometric radiographs and the pre-orthodontic digital dental casts. The measured variables were compared between the groups using one-way ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis tests according to the normality of the variable. In case of significant results, both tests were followed by multiple pairwise comparisons using Bonferroni adjusted significance level. Significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results: BMLIA group showed a smaller SNA angle and maxillary length, a more negative ANB angle and Wits appraisal, and a larger Maxillo-mandibular differential than UMLIA and/or CTRL group. The dental and soft tissue cephalometric measurements did not show any significant differences between the groups. Dentoalveolar cast measurements showed that BMLIA patients presented with significantly smaller maxillary inter-canine width than UMLIA and CTRL patients. Conclusions: Cephalometric analysis has shown that subjects with BMLIA have a statistically significant reduced ANB and maxillary length. Tooth eruption may play a role in the development of the maxillary arch.
Assessment of Left Ventricular Performance in Man: Instantaneous Tension‐Velocity‐Length Relations Obtained with the Aid of an Electromagnetic Velocity Catheter in the Ascending Aorta

Abstract:A three-dimensional construct of the tension-velocity-length relations of the intact human heart has been obtained in 17 patients by measurement of instantaneous ascending aortic flow velocity, left ventricular (LV) high-fidelity pressure, and end-diastolic volume. Left ventricular instantaneous volume was determined by subtracting the integral of the flow trace, obtained with an electromagnetic velocity catheter, at each 5-sec interval from the end-diastolic volume measured on a biplane left ventriculogram. By utilizing a thin-walled spherical model for the LV, instantaneous velocity of circumferential fiber shortening (VCF), wall tension, and circumferential length were calculated and plotted with the aid of a computer on a three-dimensional perspective graph. The resulting tension-velocity-length relations in seven patients with normal LV function were clearly separated from those of 10 patients with abnormal LV function. Of velocity indices alone, peak VCF in circumferences/sec (circ/sec) provided the best statistical separation between the groups with normal and abnormal ventricular function (2.54 ± 0.18 [SEM] circ/sec and 1.09 ± 0.15 circ/sec, respectively) (P < 0.001). The time to peak VCF averaged 194 ± 13.2 msec and 167 ± 9.3 msec in the patients with normal and abnormal ventricular function, respectively (P > 0.05). Likewise, VCF at peak tension was significantly greater in the patients with normal as opposed to abnormal LV function (1.77 ± 0.10 and 0.93 ± 0.15 circ/sec, respectively) (P < 0.001). Time to peak tension was 138 ± 14.8 msec and 182 ± 17.1 msec in the normal and abnormal patients, respectively (P > 0.05). Mean VCF also served to separate the two groups, averaging 1.35 ± 0.07 and 0.72 ± 0.10 circ/sec in the patients with normal and abnormal ventricular performance, respectively (P < 0.001). Peak wall tension did not differ significantly between the two patient groups, averaging 231.4 ± 15.7 and 273.3 ± 16.4 g/cm in the patients with normal and abnormal ventricular function, respectively. Peak instantaneous power was higher in the normal compared to the abnormal group, averaging 8.39 ± 0.83 and 5.91 ± 0.60 kg-cm/sec per cm of circumference, respectively (P < 0.05). It is concluded that a three-dimensional construct of left ventricular circumferential velocity, tension, and length during ejection is readily obtainable during diagnostic cardiac catheterization and provides a sensitive and comprehensive description of LV myocardial function in man.
Personalized and Complex Esthetic Oral Rehabilitation in a Case of Non-Syndromic Oligodontia

Abstract:Dental agenesis is one of the most common developmental anomalies in humans and it is frequently associated with several other oral abnormalities. The present case describes non-familial agenesis of permanent teeth in a twenty-one-year-old boy with no apparent systemic abnormalities. The treatment included a personalized and interdisciplinary approach involving endodontics, orthodontics, implant-supported restorations and prosthetic treatments. The treatment plan was thoroughly elaborated using photographic analysis, study models, orthopantomogram, CBCT and cephalograms. Virtual smile design, diagnostic waxing and mock-ups previsualized the treatment objectives. The edentulous spaces were reconstructed by inserting dental implants and monolithic zirconia implant-supported restorations. The final results showed a highly esthetic and functional rehabilitation. Periodic check-ups have shown that the stability of the result is well maintained and that the implant-supported restorations are an optimal solution for patients with multiple anodontia.

Abstract:The clinical report describes the oral rehabilitation of a 25-year-old male patient who lost lower incisors, right canine, and a significant amount of anterior mandibular bony and soft tissue following severe dentoalveolar trauma due to a car accident. The patient's young age, anterior aesthetic zone in the lower jaw, previous mandibular fracture, extended bony and soft tissue defect hindering ideal three-dimensional implant placement oriented the therapeutic plan towards a staged approach, with several reconstructive surgical procedures before implant rehabilitation. The treatment involved: the labio-buccal vestibule and lingual sulcus deepening to correct the cicatricial shrinkage due to the previous surgical fixation of the mandibular fracture, the vertical guided bony augmentation to regenerate adequate volumes of bone, free gingival graft to achieve sufficient height and thickness of peri-implant soft tissues, and prosthetic-driven surgical procedure to place implants in a good functional and esthetic position. This therapeutic approach restored function and aesthetics and achieved the outcomes' stability at three years of follow-up.

An immediate implant approach to replace failing maxillary anterior dentition due to orthodontically induced severe root resorption

Abstract:Incomplete orthodontic therapy can lead to severe root resorption, resulting in mobile and non-restorable teeth. This clinical report presents the diagnosis, treatment planning and oral rehabilitation of a young woman with failing dentition in the anterior maxilla due to orthodontically induced root resorption. The patient's chief complaint was mobile maxillary anterior teeth 2 years after discontinuing orthodontic treatment. Radiographic and clinical evaluations revealed a missing right first premolar and left premolars and grade III mobility from the right canine to the left lateral incisor. Due to a hopeless prognosis, extraction of the maxillary anterior teeth was planned, followed by grafting procedures. Four implants were immediately placed in the fresh sockets of the canine and central sites, and a removable provisional appliance was delivered to contour the soft tissues involved. The final restorations consisted of two three-unit layered zirconia implant-supported fixed dental prostheses. Well-planned immediate implant therapy and zirconia restorations can successfully replace mobile teeth with severe root resorption caused by external surface resorption from incomplete orthodontic treatment. Combining grafting procedures during implant placement can replace hard tissue lost due to extractions, whereas provisional restorations can re-establish optimal tissue architecture in the aesthetic zone. The present case offers insight into effective strategies for treating non-compliant or uncooperative patients with failing dentition due to orthodontically induced root resorption.

Abstract:It is incumbent upon our profession to reevaluate our preference for routinely replacing a missing single maxillary incisor, especially a maxillary lateral incisor, with a dental implant in a young adult. The dental literature is replete with beautiful restorative results using implants in this area, but there is minimal discussion regarding the long-term consequences of this treatment. The maxillary lateral incisor is one of the most commonly missing teeth due to agenesis, and it is also one of the most common teeth to be lost due to trauma in the developing child.1 Therefore, the decision for replacement must be made with the long-term in mind, as these restorations are commonly placed between ages 18 and 21 and must serve the patient for many decades. There are several reasons that implants can be associated with complications or even fail, including the following: (1) Continued craniofacial growth, which has a predominant anterior and vertical component and has been shown to occur in the maxilla, resulting in the apparent submersion of the implant crown as the natural teeth move incisally in relation to the implant2,3-there is no evidence that this can be predicted, let alone how far into the future it may happen; (2) peri-implantitis, which has a patient-level prevalence estimate of nearly 25% according to the findings of a recent systematic review;4 (3) thinning and recession of the peri-implant mucosa due to poor implant placement, inadequate prosthetic management, and/or poor case selection, often resulting in compromised esthetics and a predisposition for the onset and progression of peri-implant diseases; and (4) mechanical failure of the implant, abutment screw, transmucosal abutment, and/or crown. Clinicians should also keep in mind that, once an implant is placed in the anterior maxilla, it precludes the possibility for palatal expansion in the adult patient because the space created by the expansion cannot be redistributed orthodontically. Canine substitution is one traditional method for replacement of the missing maxillary lateral incisor. It is still a viable option when the canine tooth has an acceptable shape and color, and the occlusion will not be compromised by the substitution.5 Additionally, the bonded single-wing zirconia bridge has become a primary treatment option.6 Zirconia has the strength of metal and beauty of porcelain, which makes it an ideal substrate for a bonded bridge. The literature has demonstrated the long-term success of this replacement option for the missing maxillary incisor.7 There are clearly many potential long-term disadvantages associated with replacing a single missing maxillary incisor with an implant in young adults. We should be prescribing the least-invasive treatment option for the replacement of these teeth. Therefore, when treatment-planning for a missing maxillary incisor in a young adult, alternatives to implant therapy-such as the bonded single-wing zirconia bridge and canine substitution-should be the primary treatment options. The implant should only be considered as a secondary treatment when the other options are not viable or have previously failed.

Abstract:Oligodontia is the agenesis of six or more permanent teeth, excluding the third molars. Multidisciplinary dental treatments should be performed sequentially due to the restoration requirements for good oral function, aesthetics and self-confidence of patients. In this study, we report a case using dental implants and full-ceramic prostheses to restore the absent and malformed teeth in a patient with agenesis of 18 permanent teeth and with some primary teeth retained. The dental sequential treatments began when she was 16 years old, and she wore removable partial dentures for 4 years with unsatisfying restoration outcome. When she became an adult, dental implants and full-ceramic prostheses were used to restore the absent and malformed teeth. Finally, the patient was very satisfied with the functional and aesthetic outcomes of the prosthetic treatment.

Abstract:Introduction and importance: Oligodontia is a rare genetic condition characterized by more than six congenitally missing teeth, either as an isolated non-syndromic condition or in association with other genetic syndromes. The impact of WNT10A variants on dental development increases with the presence of the c.321C>A variant and the number of missing teeth. Case presentation: A 21-year-old man with non-syndromic oligodontia was diagnosed at 15 years of age with misaligned teeth, speech problems, and the absence of 24 permanent teeth. Interdisciplinary collaboration between specialists was initiated to enable comprehensive treatment. DNA analysis confirmed that the patient was a carrier of the known pathogenic WNT10A variant c321C>A and WNT10A variant c.113G>T of unknown clinical significance. Clinical discussion: Dental implants are a common treatment; however, bone development challenges in adolescent patients with non-syndromic oligodontia necessitate careful planning to ensure implant success. Many WNT variants play crucial roles in tooth development and are directly involved in non-syndromic oligodontia, especially the WNT10 variant c.321C>A. Conclusion: A full-arch implant-supported monolithic zirconia screw-retained fixed prosthesis is a viable treatment option for young adults with non-syndromic oligodontia. Further studies are needed to clarify the possible amplifying effect of the WNT10A variants c321C>A and c.113G>T on the pathogenic phenotype of non-syndromic oligodontia.

Abstract:Non-syndromic permanent tooth agenesis affects a significant proportion of the population, especially if third molars are considered. Although tooth agenesis has been linked to a smaller craniofacial size, reduced facial convexity and a shorter skeletal face, the occlusal characteristics of individuals with tooth agenesis remain largely unexplored. Therefore, this study investigated potential associations between tooth agenesis and metric occlusal traits in 806 individuals (491 with 4.1 missing teeth per subject, including third molars, and 315 without any tooth agenesis). Dentoskeletal morphology was defined through anatomical landmarks on pre-treatment cephalometric radiographs. Multivariate regression models, adjusted for sex and age, showed that tooth agenesis was significantly associated with a reduced overjet, an increased interincisal angle, and shorter upper and lower dental arch lengths, but not with overbite. Moreover, apart from reduced tooth length and dentoalveolar effects, as the number of missing teeth increased the upper front teeth were progressively retruded according to the craniofacial complex and to the face. Thus, tooth agenesis has a substantial influence on dental and occlusal characteristics, as well as on the sagittal position and inclination of anterior teeth. These findings emphasize the necessity for personalized, multidisciplinary approaches in individuals with multiple agenesis to successfully meet treatment goals.

Abstract:Statement of problem: Dental agenesis is a condition in which the absence of teeth causes debilitating problems, primarily in speech, mastication, and esthetics. The optimal removable prosthetic management for the condition is unclear. Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the spectrum of removable prosthetic techniques with regard to the type of edentulism and to provide clinical guidance for practicing dentists. Material and methods: An electronic and manual search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. Publications of case reports and series written in English without data restrictions that reported on removable prosthodontic management of patients with oligodontia, hypodontia, or anodontia were included. Results: A total of 59 articles comprising 83 case reports were analyzed. In patients with anodontia, the most common treatment option was an acrylic resin complete denture. Hypodontia and oligodontia were commonly managed by using either a partial denture or overdenture. Irreversible hydrocolloid or alginate was the most accepted material for the preliminary impressions and elastomeric materials for definitive impressions. The tooth arrangements were modified to simulate natural dentition and improve esthetics. Modifications of conventional acrylic resin dentures have been proposed for improved denture adaptation. Good retention is essential to the long-term success of prosthetic treatment and may be achieved with a denture reline or with retention clasps. The active growth of the patients means constant maintenance, including denture renewals or repairs, emphasizing the need for long-term follow-up care. Conclusions: Prosthodontic rehabilitation at an early age has been shown to significantly impact the overall quality of life for a child with tooth agenesis.

Abstract:The most frequent reasons why people lose their teeth are trauma, dental caries, developmental defects, and genetic abnormalities. Dental implants have become a popular alternative to traditional dentures and bridges due to their ability to restore function through osseointegration. This case report presents a 35-year-old male with a two-year history of a missing lower right molar due to caries. With no systemic health issues or harmful habits, the patient underwent dental implant placement after a thorough evaluation and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis. A parallel-sided, threaded implant was placed in the 46 region. Postoperative care included antibiotics, analgesics, and follow-up visits. Second-stage surgery was done, which was followed by impression-making and healing abutment placement. The final crown was cemented with careful occlusion verification. The patient exhibited excellent healing and was scheduled for regular follow-ups to ensure successful implant integration and function restoration.
