Abstract:We show that a noetherian ring graded by an abelian group of finite rank satisfies the Auslander condition if and only if it satisfies the graded Auslander condition. In addition, we also study the injective dimension, the global dimension and the Cohen–Macaulay property from the same perspective as that for the Auslander condition. A key step of our approach is to establish homological relations between a graded ring [Formula: see text], its quotient ring modulo the ideal [Formula: see text] and its localization ring with respect to the Ore set [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a homogeneous regular normal non-invertible element of [Formula: see text].
Two theorems on the vanishing of Ext

Abstract:We prove two theorems on the vanishing of Ext over commutative Noetherian local rings. Our first theorem shows that there are no Burch ideals which are rigid over non-regular local domains. Our second theorem reformulates a conjecture of Huneke-Wiegand in terms of the vanishing of Ext, and highlights its relation with the celebrated Auslander-Reiten conjecture. We also discuss several consequences of our results, for example, about the rigidity of the Frobenius endomorphism in prime characteristic p and a generalization of a result of Araya.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.

Abstract:The Auslander bound of a module can be thought of as a generalization of projective dimension. We say that the Auslander bound of $M$ is finite if for all finitely generated modules $N$ such that whenever $\text{Ext}_{R}^{n}(M,N)=0$ for $n\gg 0$, there exists an integer $b$ that only depends on $M$ so that $\text{Ext}_{R}^{n}(M,N)=0$ for $n>b$. In this paper we give new results on the Auslander bound by weakening the AC condition, generalizing many theorems in the the literature. We then define an Auslander bound for complexes and extend the module results to complexes.

Abstract:We study self-extensions of modules over symmetric artin algebras. We show that non-projective modules with eventually vanishing self-extensions must lie in AR components of stable type ZA∞. Moreover, the degree of the highest non-vanishing self-extension of these modules is determined by their quasilength. This has implications for the Auslander–Reiten Conjecture and the Extension Conjecture.

Abstract:Let R be an Artin algebra. Under certain Auslander‐type conditions, we give some equivalent characterizations of (weakly) Gorenstein algebras in terms of the properties of Gorenstein projective modules and modules satisfying Auslander‐type conditions. As applications, we provide some support for several homological conjectures. In particular, we prove that if R is left quasi‐Auslander, then R is Gorenstein if and only if it is (left and) right weakly Gorenstein; and that if R satisfies the Auslander condition, then R is Gorenstein if and only if it is left or right weakly Gorenstein. This is a reduction of an Auslander–Reiten's conjecture, which states that R is Gorenstein if R satisfies the Auslander condition.

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.

Abstract:Given a bounded constructible complex of sheaves on a complex Abelian variety, we prove an equality relating the cohomology jump loci of and its singular support. As an application, we identify two subsets of the set of holomorphic 1-forms with zeros on a complex smooth projective irregular variety X ; one from Green-Lazarsfeld's cohomology jump loci and one from the Kashiwara's estimates for singular supports. This result is related to Kotschick's conjecture about the equivalence between the existence of nowhere vanishing global holomorphic 1-forms and the existence of a fibre bundle structure over the circle. Our results give a conjecturally equivalent formulation using singular support, which is equivalent to a criterion involving cohomology jump loci proposed by Schreieder. As another application, we reprove a recent result proved by Schreieder and Yang; namely if X has simple Albanese variety and admits a fibre bundle structure over the circle, then the Albanese morphism cohomologically behaves like a smooth morphism with respect to integer coefficients. In a related direction, we address the question whether the set of 1-forms that vanish somewhere is a finite union of linear subspaces of . We show that this is indeed the case for forms admitting zero locus of codimension 1.

Abstract:We prove appropriate generic vanishing theorems for singular varieties, generalizing the well-known generic vanishing theorem by Green and Lazarsfeld in [GL87] and the generic vanishing theorem of Nakano type in [PS13]. Our theorem explains the counterexample of Hacon and Kovács in [HK15].

Our another result validates the conjecture for the class of modules whose self dual has finite complete intersection dimension and either the module or its dual has finite Gorenstein dimension.

Abstract:The notion of an extriangulated category gives a unification of existing theories in exact or abelian categories and in triangulated categories. In this article, we develop Auslander--Reiten theory for extriangulated categories. This unifies Auslander--Reiten theories developed in exact categories and triangulated categories independently. We give two different sets of sufficient conditions on the extriangulated category so that existence of almost split extensions becomes equivalent to that of an Auslander--Reiten--Serre duality. We also show that existence of almost split extensions is preserved under taking relative extriangulated categories, ideal quotients, and extension-closed subcategories. Moreover, we prove that the stable category $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ of an extriangulated category $\mathscr{C}$ is a $\tau$-category if $\mathscr{C}$ has enough projectives, almost split extensions and source morphisms. This gives various consequences on $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$, including Igusa--Todorov's Radical Layers Theorem, Auslander--Reiten Combinatorics on dimensions of Hom-spaces, and Reconstruction Theorem of the associated completely graded category of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ via the complete mesh category of the Auslander--Reiten species of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$. Finally we prove that any locally finite symmetrizable $\tau$-quiver (=valued translation quiver) is an Auslander--Reiten quiver of some extriangulated category with sink morphisms and source morphisms.

Auslander-Reiten theory in proper abelian subcategories

Abstract:We study Auslander-Reiten theory in proper abelian subcategories of triangulated categories with a Serre functor. To initiate this, we use approximations of a Serre functor to construct Nakayama functors, which in turn allow for the construction of Auslander-Reiten translates and the existence of Auslander-Reiten sequences in suitable proper abelian subcategories. As an application, we recover the existence of Auslander-Reiten sequences in the category of finite dimensional modules over a finite dimensional algebra.
