Abstract:We study fundamental forms of algebraic varieties using the sheaves of principal parts of line bundles and establish a vanishing theorem for any order fundamental forms. We also give connection of fundamental forms with the higher order Gauss map and higher order tangent varieties.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an L-2-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hrmander's L-2 estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsu's vanishing theorem, Girbau's vanishing theorem, Le Potier's vanishing theorem, and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.

Abstract:In this thesis, we consider geometric properties of vector bundles arising from algebraic and Hermitian geometry. On vector bundles in algebraic geometry, such as ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles, we are able to construct positive Hermitian metrics in different senses(e.g. Griffiths-positive, Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive) by L2-method and deduce many new vanishing theorems for them by analytic method instead of the Le Potier-Leray spectral sequence method. On Hermitian manifolds, we find that the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. We can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and also for complex vector bundles over Hermitian manifolds by their second Ricci curvature tensors. We also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:We define higher order fundamental forms and osculating spaces of projective algebraic varieties, using sheaves of principal parts. We show that the $m$th fundamental form can be viewed as the differential of the $(m-1)$th Gauss map, and explain why the vanishing of the $m$th fundamental form implies that the variety is contained in a general $(m-1)$th osculating space. Pointwise, the fundamental forms give linear systems on the projectivized tangent spaces. We show that, at each point, the Jacobian of the $m$th fundamental form is contained in the $(m-1)$th fundamental form. In the case of ruled varieties, we describe these linear systems. We discuss conditions for a surface to be ruled, in terms of the second fundamental form and the Fubini cubic.

Abstract:Given a bounded constructible complex of sheaves on a complex Abelian variety, we prove an equality relating the cohomology jump loci of and its singular support. As an application, we identify two subsets of the set of holomorphic 1-forms with zeros on a complex smooth projective irregular variety X ; one from Green-Lazarsfeld's cohomology jump loci and one from the Kashiwara's estimates for singular supports. This result is related to Kotschick's conjecture about the equivalence between the existence of nowhere vanishing global holomorphic 1-forms and the existence of a fibre bundle structure over the circle. Our results give a conjecturally equivalent formulation using singular support, which is equivalent to a criterion involving cohomology jump loci proposed by Schreieder. As another application, we reprove a recent result proved by Schreieder and Yang; namely if X has simple Albanese variety and admits a fibre bundle structure over the circle, then the Albanese morphism cohomologically behaves like a smooth morphism with respect to integer coefficients. In a related direction, we address the question whether the set of 1-forms that vanish somewhere is a finite union of linear subspaces of . We show that this is indeed the case for forms admitting zero locus of codimension 1.

Vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.

Abstract:In this note, we give a new proof of a vanishing result originally due to Bogomolov, and later generalised by Mourougane and Boucksom. The statement holds for arbitrary pseudoeffective line bundles over compact Kähler manifolds, under an assumption on the numerical dimension of the line bundle.

Abstract:Let $F: [0, \infty) \to [0, \infty)$ be a strictly increasing $C^2$ function with $F(0)=0$. We unify the concepts of $F$-harmonic maps, minimal hypersurfaces, maximal spacelike hypersurfaces, and Yang-Mills Fields, and introduce $F$-Yang-Mills fields, $F$-degree, $F$-lower degree, and generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld fields (with the plus sign or with the minus sign) on manifolds. When $F(t)=t, \frac 1p(2t)^{\frac p2}, \sqrt{1+2t} -1,$ and $1-\sqrt{1-2t},$ the $F$-Yang-Mills field becomes an ordinary Yang-Mills field, $p$-Yang-Mills field, a generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld field with the plus sign, and a generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld field with the minus sign on a manifold respectively. We also introduce the $E_{F,g}-$energy functional (resp. $F$-Yang-Mills functional) and derive the first variational formula of the $E_{F,g}-$energy functional (resp. $F$-Yang-Mills functional) with applications. In a more general frame, we use a unified method to study the stress-energy tensors that arise from calculating the rate of change of various functionals when the metric of the domain or base manifold is changed. These stress-energy tensors, linked to $F$-conservation laws yield monotonicity formulae. A "macroscopic" version of these monotonicity inequalities enables us to derive some Liouville type results and vanishing theorems for $p-$forms with values in vector bundles, and to investigate constant Dirichlet boundary value problems for 1-forms. In particular, we obtain Liouville theorems for $F-$harmonic maps (e.g. $p$-harmonic maps), and $F-$Yang-Mills fields (e.g. generalized Yang-Mills-Born-Infeld fields on manifolds). We also obtain generalized Chern type results for constant mean curvature type equations for $p-$forms on $\Bbb{R}^m$ and on manifolds $M$ with the global doubling property by a different approach. The case $p=0$ and $M=\mathbb{R}^m$ is due to Chern.

Abstract:Let X be a toric variety. We establish vanishing (and non-vanishing) results for the sheaves , where is a strong log resolution of singularities with reduced exceptional divisor E . These extend the local vanishing theorem for toric varieties in Mustaţă et al. (J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 19(3):801-819, 2020). Our consideration of these sheaves is motivated by the notion of k -rational singularities introduced by Friedman and Laza (Higher Du Bois and higher rational singularities, 2001). In particular, our results lead to criteria for toric varieties to have k -rational singularities, as defined in Shen et al. (On k-Du Bois and k-rational singularities, 2023).

Abstract:We prove a generalized vanishing theorem for certain quasi-coherent sheaves along the derived blow-ups of quasi-smooth derived Artin stacks. We give four applications of the generalized vanishing theorem: we prove a $K$-theoretic version of the generalized vanishing theorem which verified a conjecture of the author and give a new proof of the $K$-theoretic virtual localization theorem for quasi-smooth derived schemes through the intrinsic blow-up theory of Kiem-Li-Savvas; we prove a desingularization theorem for quasi-smooth derived schemes and give an approximation formula for the virtual fundamental classes; we give a resolution of the diagonal along the projection map of blow-ups of smooth varieties, which strengthens the semi-orthogonal decomposition theorem of Orlov; we illustrate the relation between the generalized vanishing theorem and weak categorifications of quantum loop and toroidal algebra actions on the derived category of Nakajima quiver varieties. We also propose several conjectures related to birational geometry and the $L_{\infty}$-algebroid of Calaque-Căldăraru-Tu.

Non-simple abelian varieties in a family: arithmetic approaches

Abstract:Inspired by the work of Ellenberg, Elsholtz, Hall, and Kowalski, we investigate how the property of the generic fiber of a one-parameter family of abelian varieties being geometrically simple extends to other fibers. In \cite{EEHK09}, the authors studied a special case involving specific one-parameter families of Jacobians of curves using analytic methods. We generalize their results, particularly Theorem B, to all families of abelian varieties with big geometric monodromy, employing an arithmetic approach. Our method applies Heath-Brown-type bounds on certain covers with level structures and optimizes the covers to derive the desired results.

Abstract:We prove several conjectures relating the existence of nonvanishing 1- forms to smooth morphisms over abelian varieties, assuming the existence of good minimal models. The proof involves a decomposition result for a family of Calabi-Yau varieties equipped with a surjective map to an abelian scheme. In the uniruled case, supposing the MRC base admits a good minimal model, we also achieve a structure theorem for those varieties admitting nowhere vanishing 1-forms.

Regular types and order of vanishing along a set of non-integrable vector fields

Abstract:This paper has two parts. We first survey recent efforts on the Bloom conjecture which still remains open in the case of complex dimension at least 4. Bloom's conjecture concerns the equivalence of three regular types. There is a more general important notion, called the singular D'Angelo type (or simply, D'Angelo type). While the finite D'Angelo type condition is the right one for the study of local subelliptic estimates for Kohn's $\overline{\partial}$-Neumann problem, regular types are important as their finiteness gives the global regularity up to the boundary of solutions of Kohn's $\overline{\partial}$-Neumann problem. In the second part of the paper, we provide a proof of a seemingly elementary but a truly fundamental property (Theorem 2.2 or its CR version Theorem 2.5) on the vanishing order of smooth functions along a system of non-integrable vector fields. A special case, Corollary 2.6, of Theorem 2.5 had already appeared in a paper of D'Angelo. A main goal in this part is to provide proofs for these results for the purpose of future references. Our arguments are based on a deep normalization theorem for a system of non-integrable vector fields due to Helffer-Nourrigat, as well as its late generalization in Boauendi-Rothschild.
