Abstract:Fuzzy sets underlie uncertainty analysis and intelligent processing. Their generalizations have become a valuable topic, and there are multiple types of generalized fuzzy sets. Representative q -rung orthopair fuzzy sets ( q -ROFSs) have been widely utilized and include intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs), Pythagorean fuzzy sets, and Fermatean fuzzy sets. q -ROFSs are a special case of orthopair fuzzy sets (OFSs), but the latter are only preliminarily formulated at present; q -ROFSs carry restricted power function conditions, so they have a simplification space as a result of linear computations. This paper reconstructs OFSs to propose specific models, i.e., linear OFSs (LOFSs) as well as symmetrical LOFSs (SLOFSs), so that we can achieve both fuzziness extensions and q -ROFS simplification. Moreover, we emphatically discuss order-reversing involutionary negations, simply called negations. First, for OFSs, their basic definitions and usual operations are formally determined to extend q -ROFSs, and their negations acquire basic properties in terms of the bijective mapping, equivalent rule, dual monotonicity, and rectangular description. Then, for LOFSs, their natural definitions and usual operations are realized by linear constraints to extend the IFSs of q -ROFSs. They exhibit four common types, i.e., LOFSs (1), (2), (3) and (4), and three symmetrical types, i.e., SLOFSs (1), (2) and (3); LOFSs (4) and degenerate SLOFSs (2) are the main models. Their negations achieve further properties in terms of the single direction, equivalent rule, and continuous bijection; thus, the negations are realized in LOFSs (1) and (4) and all SLOFSs but never in surplus LOFSs (2) and (3). In summary, OFSs are explicitly defined to generalize q -ROFSs, while LOFSs are further established to both enrich OFSs and simplify q -ROFSs, so relevant negations yield axiomatic definitions and thorough properties. The obtained results of generalized frameworks, linear constraints, unsymmetrical representations, and operational properties facilitate fuzziness uncertainty applications.
