Abstract:<h2>Abstract</h2><p>This paper provides an introduction to set-theoretic methods with respect to their application to research in the qualitative paradigm, as part of a series of papers on qualitative research being featured in Early Human Development. It discusses the philosophical assumptions underlying set-theoretic methods and the properties that make them well-suited for use in the analysis of qualitative data. It also takes a closer look at qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), a cross-case analysis method that has arguably been most widely applied among the set-theoretic methods and has also been gaining ground in the health field. Theoretical underpinnings, sample-size considerations, set calibration, QCA software packages, parameters of fit and limitations of the method are discussed. A description of the analytic output issued by a freely available software package, fs/QCA, is used as an example to illustrate QCA results and their interpretation.</p>

Abstract:Objective:To describe the application of Microsoft Excel in aided computing of pharmaceutic data analysis.Methods:The theory and methods of the pharmaceutic data analysis in Excel were analyzed and built the mathematical model of the problem calculated with the Excel's commends and functions.Results:Excel may be used in the calculating of the matrix,evaluation of the liner and non- linear equations,value inserting,differential equation,integral equation,model fitting and mathematical optimization design.Conclu- sion:By the application of Excel,the theory and methods of the data analysis in pharmaceutical calculating may be expressed clearly, understood and used casily,so the related concept,method,process and result are visualized.

Abstract:The possibility of assembling this series of Best Practice Guidelines papers pertaining to WASP (Write a Scientific Paper) arose from the international WASP course, and the realisation that the Statistics at Square One papers initially published in the British Medical Journal in the 1970s, dealing with medical statistics using a hand calculator were now completely superseded by spreadsheets. Early Human Development has now published a complete set of guidelines on virtually all matters pertaining to WASP. All of these were written by academics from the University of Malta. This final set wraps up by elaborating on the techniques that best create effective graphs and tables, as well as the medical guidelines that are mandated by modern research. This coda should be viewed by WASP novices as a tipping point from where effective papers may be created and published. Like Superman's father, we hope that we have given you "an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun… In time, you will help them accomplish wonders." Our WASP revels are therefore not ended, but just starting as authors of high quality papers.

Abstract:The prospect of writing a thesis is considered daunting by many but the task is a requisite when embarking into reading for any academic degree. A thesis is a written document following personal research. It is performed to obtain an academic degree or qualification, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. When writing a thesis, it is imperative that the student follows the universal well-acknowledged structure format known as "IMRAD": i.e. Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion. A summary of the thesis, known as the 'Abstract', is placed at the beginning of the "IMRAD", while all references cited in the thesis are placed at the very end. The thesis format is similar to a research manuscript prepared for publication in scientific journal, but there are significant differences between the two types of academic works. For example, the liberal use of graphical aides in the form of figures and/or tables enhances the delivery of results. It is essential to ensure that all the literature referred to in the thesis is cited, while paying particular attention to potential plagiarism. When writing a thesis, the student needs to keep in mind three factors: [1] the structure, [2] the substance and [3] the style. Once the student has developed a good plan for thesis layout, then writing becomes greatly faciliated.
Rapid publication-ready MS-Word tables for one-way ANOVA

Abstract:Background: Statistical tables are an important component of data analysis and reports in biological sciences. However, the traditional manual processes for computation and presentation of statistically significant results using a letter-based algorithm are tedious and prone to errors. Results: Based on the R language, we present two web-based software for individual and summary data, freely available online, at http://shiny.stat.tamu.edu:3838/hassaad/Table_report1/ and http://shiny.stat.tamu.edu:3838/hassaad/SumAOV1/, respectively. The software are capable of rapidly generating publication-ready tables containing one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) results. No download is required. Additionally, the software can perform multiple comparisons of means using the Duncan, Student-Newman-Keuls, Tukey Kramer, and Fisher's least significant difference (LSD) tests. If the LSD test is selected, multiple methods (e.g., Bonferroni and Holm) are available for adjusting p-values. Using the software, the procedures of ANOVA can be completed within seconds using a web-browser, preferably Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, and a few mouse clicks. Furthermore, the software can handle one-way ANOVA for summary data (i.e. sample size, mean, and SD or SEM per treatment group) with post-hoc multiple comparisons among treatment means. To our awareness, none of the currently available commercial (e.g., SPSS and SAS) or open-source software (e.g., R and Python) can perform such a rapid task without advanced knowledge of the corresponding programming language. Conclusions: Our new and user-friendly software to perform statistical analysis and generate publication-ready MS-Word tables for one-way ANOVA are expected to facilitate research in agriculture, biomedicine, and other fields of life sciences.

Measurements in these tables are summarized as mean ± SEM for each treatment group. Results from pairwise-comparison tests are often included using letter displays, in which treatment means that are not significantly different, are followed by a common letter. The program is capable of rapidly generating publication-ready tables containing two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) results. Additionally, the software can perform multiple comparisons of means using the Duncan, Student-Newman-Keuls, Tukey Kramer, Westfall, and Fisher's least significant difference (LSD) tests. Abstract:This article extends Scheffé's modified (sequential) multiple-comparison procedure in one-way analysis-of-variance to other analysis situations, including interaction comparisons in factorial ANOVA designs, tests of partial regression coefficients in multiple-regression analysis, and comparisons of means in one-factor multivariate analyses of variance. Researchers who are concerned with maintaining familywise Type I error rates while increasing statistical power relative to the original (simultaneous) Scheffé-based procedures are encouraged to consider these improved multiple-comparison methods. Abstract:The ability to write up research in the form of a paper is a crucial requisite for academics. The skills required are manifold and are acquired piecemeal during an individual's training. Matters would be facilitated by a short and intensive course that would cover all of these facets. Such a course would ideally be delivered by experienced writers and editors. It is for this very reason that WASP (Write a Scientific Paper) was created. WASP was held outside of Malta for the first time, in London. This paper describes the preparations required in order to plan and execute a course of this or similar nature.

Abstract:Abstract The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) has notably proven to be an effective tool in a broad range of scientific applications. Despite the well-documented literature about its principal uses and statistical properties, the corresponding power analysis for the general linear hypothesis tests of treatment differences remains a less discussed issue. The frequently recommended procedure is a direct application of the ANOVA formula in combination with a reduced degrees of freedom and a correlation-adjusted variance. This article aims to explicate the conceptual problems and practical limitations of the common method. An exact approach is proposed for power and sample size calculations in ANCOVA with random assignment and multinormal covariates. Both theoretical examination and numerical simulation are presented to justify the advantages of the suggested technique over the current formula. The improved solution is illustrated with an example regarding the comparative effectiveness of interventions. In order to facilitate the application of the described power and sample size calculations, accompanying computer programs are also presented.

Abstract:Comparison of population means is essential in quantitative research. For comparing means of three or more groups, analysis of variance (ANOVA) is the most frequently used statistical approach. Typically, ANOVA is used for continuous data, but discrete data are also common in practice. To compare means of binary or count data, the classical ANOVA and the corresponding power analysis are problematic, because the assumption of normality is violated. To address the issue, this study introduces an analogous ANOVA approach for binary or count data, as well as the corresponding methods for statistical power analysis. We first introduce an analogous ANOVA table and a likelihood ratio test statistic for comparing means with binary or count data. With the test statistic, we then define an effect size and propose a method to calculate statistical power. Finally, we develop and show software to conduct the proposed power analysis for both binary and count data.

Abstract:Spreadsheets are widely used in various fields to do large numerical analysis. While several companies have relied on spreadsheets for decades, data scientists are going in the direction of using scientific programming languages such as python to do their data analysis due to the support, community, and vast amount of libraries. While using python to analyze a company's spreadsheets, some information such as the formulas and dependencies of a cell are lost. We propose a tool that creates an abstract intermediate representation (AIR) of a spreadsheet. This representation facilitates the transfer from spreadsheets into scientific programming languages while preserving inter-dependency information about data. In addition to that, we build a python library on top of our tool to perform some data analysis in python.

Abstract:There is seemingly anonymity and observation among consumers of educational research that multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) is one of the most predominant and commonly used statistical models for the analysis of data in the discipline of education. Despite the large use of MANOVA in research studies, most research practitioners within the educational research trail still face difficulties in reporting and meaningfully interpreting MANOVA results. In analysis, multivariate analysis of variance tests for two or more independent variables and two or more dependent variables. In practice, the one-way multivariate analysis of variance is used to determine whether there are any differences between independent groups on more than one continuous dependent variable. This paper provides a data driven example of reporting and interpreting presentation of multivariate analysis of variance for consumers of research by capitalizing on how it can be reported and interpreted using the APA format. In the paper, the researcher used an example data-driven set throughout the write up to illustrate how MANOVA is reported and interpreted in educational studies. The paper emphasized that if researchers do not run the statistical tests on assumptions of using MANOVA correctly, the accrued results that will be might not be valid. These could therefore have structural effects on the conclusions and implications that will be drawn from the analysis. The paper concludes with remarks that throws more lights and emphasis on the relevant and consequent implications of using MANOVA in educational studies.

Abstract:Because spreadsheets have a large and growing importance in real-world work, their contents need to be controlled and validated. Generally spreadsheets have been difficult to verify, since data and executable information are stored together. Spreadsheet applications with multiple authors are especially difficult to verify, since controls over access are difficult to enforce. Facing similar problems, traditional software engineering has developed numerous tools and methodologies to control, verify and audit large applications with multiple developers. We present some tools we have developed to enable 1) the audit of selected, filtered, or all changes in a spreadsheet, that is, when a cell was changed, its original and new contents and who made the change, and 2) control of access to the spreadsheet file(s) so that auditing is trustworthy. Our tools apply to OpenOffice.org calc spreadsheets, which can generally be exchanged with Microsoft Excel.

Abstract:Taking the goodness of fit test (Chi test) as an example, this paper attempts to calculate the Bayesian factor BF10 of n-fold Bernoulli test by the Excel software (using JASP software as the evidence). The results showed that in the range of 0.15-0.55 (the rate of samples which are all "true"), the calculated results of Excel were more accurate, and the differences between the two (Excel and JASP) were not statistically significant (P>0.3).

Abstract:ANOVA stands for analysis of variance it is a statistical test used to research the difference among the methods of greater than two agencies or groups. The study shows a statistical data test for different groups of various data sets from IEEE and ACM journals and conferences which represent in terms of interval data to perform one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test with group data. The data was selected from IEEE and ACM journals and conferences from 2014 to 2019 of different agile users for knowing which type of methods are most preferable by users using various agile methodology. After which we apply a one-way ANOVA test on the sample data. The results show that each data collected from conferences and journals depicts a significant difference between each compared sample so, user preferences are changing in selecting a various methodology. Thus, the conclusion shows that because of differences that occur by applying one-way ANOVA the users mostly preferred to change their methodology to XP (Extreme Programming) in agile methodology.

Abstract:Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is the most efficient method available for the analysis of experimental data. Analysis of variance is a method of considerable complexity and subtlety, with many different variations, each of which applies in a particular experimental context. Hence, it is possible to apply the wrong type of ANOVA to data and, therefore, to draw an erroneous conclusion from an experiment. This article reviews the types of ANOVA most likely to arise in clinical experiments in optometry including the one-way ANOVA ('fixed' and 'random effect' models), two-way ANOVA in randomised blocks, three-way ANOVA, and factorial experimental designs (including the varieties known as 'split-plot' and 'repeated measures'). For each ANOVA, the appropriate experimental design is described, a statistical model is formulated, and the advantages and limitations of each type of design discussed. In addition, the problems of non-conformity to the statistical model and determination of the number of replications are considered.
