Abstract:Dr. Geraldine McGinty is no stranger to both political accolades and medical honors. As an internationally recognized expert in health economics and an advocate for patient centered care, Dr. McGinty has gained global impact as an influential decision maker and leading figure in radiology and imaging informatics. In May 2018, McGinty became the first woman chair of the American College of Radiology(ACR), and in 2020 became the 97th ACR President (ACR, n.d.). 1 During her tenure, she spearheaded numerous initiatives from data science to health equity. In addition, she advocated for new governance structures to further the organization's mission of "empowering the radiologists of the future". 2 This year, we have the honor of highlighting her accomplishments and outlook towards the field's future as the 2024 American College of Radiology Gold Medal recipient– only the 15th female in over 100 years of ACR history to receive this most prestigious award.

Abstract:Each year the editorial team of the American Journal of Health Promotion selects our "Best of the Year List" of health promotion studies from the prior year. This editorial features the Editor's Picks Awards, the Editor in Chief Awards, the Michael P. O'Donnell Award and the Dorothy Nyswander Award for the best research and writing published in 2023 in this journal. Our criteria for selection includes: whether the study addresses a topic of timely importance in health promotion, the research question is clearly stated and the study methods used are well executed; whether the paper is often cited and downloaded; if the study findings offer a unique contribution to the literature; and if the paper is well-written and enjoyable to read. Awardees in 2023 offered new insights into legal issues related to obesity and LGBTQ+ discrimination, the role of employers in the use of lifestyle medicine and the influence of Cannabis use on depression and suicide behaviors. This "best of 2023 list" featured studies based in communities, health systems, workplaces and schools and includes case studies and qualitative and quantitative research methods that enabled researchers to better explain what amplifies or hampers well-being.

In this interview, Rachel Flynn talks about her award‐winning research. Since 2003, FEBS Letters has awarded an annual prize to the corresponding author of the best research paper published in the journal in the previous calendar year. The award‐winning article is selected by a special committee formed by appointed members of the Editorial Board, plus one external member. Abstract:In Canada, over 15,000 residents of long-term care have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic representing 59 percent of all COVID-19 deaths (National Institute of Ageing, 2021). Urgent research and subsequent applied action are needed to save life and quality of life including the presence of family (CFHI, 2020). Social and physical frailty are major systemic patient safety gaps and are challenges for most healthcare organizations. This practitioner-led panel of experienced human factors, implementation science and healthcare experts used a case study of a project at North York General Hospital’s Seniors’ Health Centre in Toronto to discuss how these challenges can be addressed with serious games. The project discussed used games that aim to reduce social and physical frailty through exercise while interacting with remote families. Lessons learned to-date and challenges observed, in rapidly implementing safety and human factors programs intended to create resilient residents in a real healthcare context were discussed.

Abstract:Introduction The British Cardiovascular Society (BCS)/British Heart Foundation (BHF)/British Atherosclerosis Society (BAS)/British Society for Cardiovascular Research (BSCR) Young Investigator Award (YIA) was established in 2001. The competition is open to both clinicians (who are not consultants) and basic scientists, who are no more than 5 years post-PhD. This year, five finalists were selected from 49 applicants. The finalists presented their work and answered questions from a panel of independent judges at the BCS Annual Conference 2024 in Manchester on 4 June 2024. This year's finalists conducted research on a variety of topics within the domains of coronary disease and cardiomyopathy, with entries highlighting the diverse experimental methods that are used in cardiovascular research.
