Abstract:A highly sensitive electrochemical sensor was fabricated by electropolymerizing p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (ABSA) on quaternary amine functionalized multi-wall carbon nanotubes (Q-MWNTs) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Q-MWNTs provide a conductive and stable network for the poly-ABSA (PABSA) immobilization. The voltammetric behaviors of methotrexate (MTX) and calcium folinate (CF) at the PABSA/Q-MWNTs/GCE were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV). Compared with bare GCE, Q-MWNTs/GCE and PABSA/GCE, the PABSA/Q-MWNTs/GCE exhibited excellent electrocatalytic oxidation toward MTX and CF. Separation of the oxidation peak potentials for MTX and CF was 0.26 V in phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.0), which made it suitable for simultaneous determination of these two compounds by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Under the optimized conditions, the anodic peak current of MTX was linear with the concentration from 0.1 to 8.0 mu M in the presence of 8.0 mu M CF, with a detection limit of 0.015 mu M (S/N = 3). At the same time, the anodic current of CF was linear with the concentration from 0.1 to 6.5 mu M with a detection limit of 0.020 mu M in the presence of 8.0 mu M MTX. The proposed sensor showed advantages of simple preparation, high sensitivity, good reproducibility and stability. Abstract:Puerarin, an important isoflavone, has been widely used for the treatment of angina and hypertension. In this work, we developed a novel electrochemical sensor for the detection of puerarin based on the hybrid of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The RGO/MIP sensor functions by target puerarin recognition and electro-oxidization via a two-proton and two-electron process, enabling the detection of puerarin with good selectivity and high sensitivity. The MIP layer was integrated on the surface of RGO by the electro-co-polymerization of o-phenylenediamine (monomer) and puerarin (template), resulting in high surface area, binding capacity, good conductivity and faster mass transfer. The nanostructure of the RGO/MIP hybrid was demonstrated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Experimental conditions involved in the sensor fabrication process were evaluated. Under the optimized condition, a wide linear range (0.02 mu M similar to 40 mu M) and a low detection limit (0.006 mu M) were achieved. The sensor was applied to detect puerarin in human urine and injection samples, and the result was comparable with that of the gold standard method of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), indicating a promise in the further application to pharmacokinetics or therapeutic drug monitoring. Simultaneous Determination of Theophylline and Caffeine Using Poly(L-phenylalanine)-Reduced Graphene Oxide Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

Abstract:Theophylline (TP) and caffeine (CF) are two purine alkaloids which widely exist in our human diet. In the present work, poly(L-phenylalanine)-reduced graphene oxide (P(L-Pal)/rGO) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated and applied to simultaneously determine the concentrations of TP and CF. The P(L-Pal)/rGO composite film was prepared by one-step electropolymerization using cyclic voltammetry, and the surface morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscope. The electrochemical behaviors of TP and CF on P(L-Pal)/rGO/GCE were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. By optimizing parameters, the fabricated sensor exhibited excellent performance to simultaneously determine TP and CF in a wide linear range of 1−260 μM. The detection limits were 0.35 and 0.5 μM (S/N = 3), respectively. The presented method shows good sensitivity and stability, and can be used for the determination of TP and CF in samples of green tea, coffee and tablets.
Effective Electrochemical Determination of Chloramphenicol and Florfenicol Based on Graphene/Copper Phthalocyanine Nanocomposites Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

Abstract:In this paper, a highly effective electrochemical sensor based on graphene (Gr)/copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) nanocomposites was successfully designed and achieved. The morphology of Gr/CuPc nanocomposites was characterized by UV-vis, IR, Raman spectra and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Gr/CuPc nanocomposites were gathered on the surface of the glassy carbon electrode (GCE), and the performence of Gr/CuPc/GCE toward chloramphenicol (CAP) and florfenicol (FF) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The Gr/CuPc/GCE presented good electrochemical properties, stability, reproducibility, excellent anti-interference ability and satisfying recovery rate in real samples for the detection of CAP and FF. The performance of Gr/CuPc/GCE exhibited a linear ranging from 1.0 x 10(-7) to 2.0 x 10(-5) M with a detection limit of 2.7 x 10(-8) M (-0.652 V vs. Hg/Hg2Cl2, S/N = 3) toward CAP. For FF, it exhibited a linear ranging from 1.0 x 10(-6) to 3.0 x 10(-5) M with a detection limit of 7.5 x 10(-7) M (-0.863 V vs. Hg/Hg2Cl2, S/N = 3). Furthermore, it is for the first time that FF is determined by electrochemical sensor through nanocomposites modified electrode. This proposed electrochemical sensor can provide an opportunity for convenient and reliable determination of CAP or FF. (c) 2019 The Electrochemical Society.
Choline evokes fluid secretion by perfused rat mandibular gland without desensitization.

Abstract:The secretomotor action of choline on salivary secretion has been studied in the isolated perfused mandibular gland of the rat. Choline made up in substituted Ringer solutions (Na concentrations of 40, 70, or 100 mM) was an effective secretomotor agonist in the concentration range of 1-100 mM and evoked secretory responses comparable with those of acetylcholine (0.05-1.0 microM) administered at similar Na concentrations. Continuous infusion of choline, in contrast to acetylcholine, did not lead to a fall off in the secretory response (desensitization or tachyphylaxis) until the choline concentration used exceeded approximately 80 mM. The secretomotor action of choline (46 mM) was blocked completely and reversibly by atropine (5 microM) but not by propranolol (2.5 microM) and phentolamine (2.5 microM) administered together. When acetylcholine (1.0 or 0.05 microM) was infused on a background of choline stimulation, a small additional secretory response was elicited whenever the choline stimulus was submaximal, and, regardless of the choline concentration employed, addition of acetylcholine always induced tachyphylaxis. The results suggest that choline and acetylcholine act on the same population of muscarinic receptors, but it is unclear why choline does not evoke tachyphylaxis. The response to choline allows us to exclude a number of the possible causes of tachyphylaxis that have previously been considered, so that an excessive buildup of cytosolic free Ca now remains as the most likely cause of the phenomenon.

Abstract:In this work, a glassy carbon electrode modified with graphene and Au nanoparticles (GCE-graphene-EAu) was employed to electrochemically study paclitaxel which belonged to anticancer drug. Graphene and Au NPs were successfully electrodeposited on the surface of glassy carbon electrode in order to enhance the conductivity of electrode. An irreversible oxidation process was observed in the pH range of 3 to 10, which was diffusion-controlled. A linear relationship was observed between the anodic peak current and the concentration of paclitaxel ranging from 0.01 to 2 mM, where the limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.005 and 0.004 mM, respectively. The designed approach was demonstrated to be efficient in the determination of paclitaxel in Chinese herb Taxus chinensis.

Abstract:MoS2 nanosheet arrays grown on functional pomelo peel derived carbon (PPC) is constructed via in situ self-assembly method. The obtained MoS2/PPC composite is further used to fabricate electrochemical sensor for taxifolin detection. The current response of taxifolin on MoS2/PPC is significantly enhanced due to the synergistic effect between MoS2 and PPC. It is found that the charge transfer impedance and the Ohmic resistance corresponding to MoS2/PPC are the lowest, indicating fast electron transfer rate and good conductivity. Further investigation reveals that the redox peak current is linearly related to the concentration of taxifolin in the range of 7×10-8∼1×10-5 mol·L-1 and the limit of detection is calculated to be 2.3×10-8 mol·L-1 (S/N=3). In addition, no obvious interfering phenomenonhas been observed in the detection process of taxifolin, demonstrating that MoS2/PPC presents good selectivity toward taxifolin determination.

Abstract:An innovative approach based on a surface functional monomer-directing strategy for the construction of a sensitive and selective molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor for patulin recognition is described. A patulin imprinted platinum nanoparticle (PtNP)-coated poly(thionine) film was grown on a preformed thionine tailed surface of PtNP-nitrogen-doped graphene (NGE) by electro-polymerization, which provided high capacity and fast kinetics to uptake patulin molecules. Thionine acted not only as a functional monomer for molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), but also as a signal indicator. Enhanced sensitivity was obtained by combining the excellent electric conductivity of PtNPs, NGE, and thionine with multisignal amplification. The designed sensor displayed excellent performance for patulin detection over the range of 0.002-2 ng mL(-1) (R-2 = 0.995) with a detection limit of 0.001 ng mL(-1) for patulin. In addition, the resulting sensor showed good stability and high repeatability and selectivity. Furthermore, the feasibility of its applications has also been demonstrated in the analysis of real samples, providing novel tactics for the rational design of MIP-based electrochemical sensors to detect a growing number of deleterious substances.

Abstract:A simple and sensitive fluorimetric method has been developed for the determination of trace palladium with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylene diamine(NPED) as a fluorescence reagent.The method is based on the complex formation between Pd(Ⅱ) and NPED at pH 4.0 with fluorescence quenching of NPED.The calibration curve is linear over the Pd(Ⅱ) concentration range of 5.0×10~(-7)～6.0×10~(-6)?mol/L,with a detection limit of 3.8×10~(-7)?mol/L.Platinum(Ⅳ) and other diverse metal ions do not disturb with Pd(Ⅱ) determination.The proposed method has been applied to the determination of Pd(Ⅱ) in palladium-containing catalysts and water samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:The preparation and application of biomass-derived porous carbon (BPC) have aroused intensive attentions due to the advantages of eco-friendliness, abundant resources, and low cost. Herein banyan leaves derived BPC was prepared by calcination technique with rich three-dimensional interconnected frameworks. Furthermore, Au nanoflakes (AuNFs) were decorated on BPC by hydrothermal method to obtain AuNFs-BPC nanocomposite. The morphology, structure and composition of AuNFs-BPC were characterized by SEM, XRD, Raman and XPS techniques. AuNFs-BPC was modified on glassy carbon electrode to construct a functional sensing platform for the investigation on electrochemical behaviors of luteolin. Obvious enhanced electrochemical signals of luteolin could be observed, which was bigger than that on bare electrode. The electrode reaction mechanism was studied with the electron transfer coefficient and standard heterogeneous reaction rate constant calculated as 0.51 and 1.99 s−1. Consequently, an AuNFs-BPC modified electrode based voltammetric sensor for luteolin determination was constructed with a low detection limit of 0.07 μmol/L (3S0/S). This novel sensing platform displays great potential for practical and reliable determination of luteolin in Duyiwei capsules and human urine samples.

Abstract:Much research in the past two decades has focused on automatic generation of abstractions from low-level software elements using clustering algorithms. This research is generally motivated by comprehension improvement through more abstract constructs, re-architecture of existing systems to improve their maintenance, or migration to new paradigms. In this paper, we start from a formulation of software clustering problems in a setting, where elements of a software system form a graph to be partitioned in order to derive high-level abstractions. We then propose a novel formulation where the graph partitioning solution is evaluated by the degree of its conformance with past clustering cases given as examples. We provide a concrete illustration of this formulation with the problem of object identification in procedural code.
Gold Nanoparticle Embedded on a Reduced Graphene Oxide/polypyrrole Nanocomposite: Voltammetric Sensing of Furazolidone and Flutamide

Abstract:A new electrochemical sensor has been constructed based on the in situ preparation of gold nanoparticle embedded on reduced graphene oxide and polypyrrole nanotube (/PPyNT) composite through a nanosecond laser-induced heating technique. The as-prepared composite is used for individual as well as the simultaneous electrochemical determination of chemotherapy drug (furazolidone, FU) and anticancer drug (flutamide, FLT). The composite was analyzed by X-ray Diffraction, scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectrometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, thus confirming the successful synthesis of this composite and its physical features. The modified /PPyNT electrode was examined through cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods in pH 7.0 for the determination of FU and FLT in individual, simultaneous, and mixed systems. The fabricated sensor showed wide linear responses (0.01–1080.11 μM and 0.01–1214.11 μM) of analytes, with the lower limits of detection of 2.3 and 2.45 nM and higher sensitivity of 53.75 and 50.06 μA μM–1 cm–2, respectively. Abstract:A new mercury-free determination method of trace palladium was established based on carboxylic multiwall carbon nanotubes(c-MWCNT) modified glass carbon electrode.In 0.1 mol/L HAc-NaAc(pH 4.5) buffer solution,there was a sensitive anodic stripping peak on linear sweep voltammograms and the stripping peak potential was 0.162 V when accumulation time of Pd2+ at the modified electrode was 30 s at-1.1 V and potential scan rate was 100 mV/s.There was a good linear relationship between peak current and Pd2+ concentration in the range of 5.0×10-10-1.0×10-7 mol/L with correlation coefficient of 0.999.Detection limit of this method was 1.5 × 10-10 mol/L.This kind of modified electrode could be used in the determination of palladium in palladium catalyst with recoveries of 98%-103% because of its good stability.

Abstract:In this study, a highly sensitive and selective sensor based on poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy- thiophene) (PEDOT) and beta-cyclodextrin functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (beta-CD-SWCNT) composite was fabricated for the simultaneous determination of folic acid (FA) and uric acid (UA) under coexistence of ascorbic acid (AA). The modified electrode combined the features of PEDOT and SWCNT, which hold excellent conductivity, low cost and high surface areas for working as an efficient electron-mediator for FA and UA in the presence of AA. Voltammetric techniques separated the anodic peaks of FA and UA with activation overpotential, and the interference from AA was effectively excluded from FA and UA determination. The differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) data showed that the obtained anodic peak currents were linearly proportional to concentration in the range of 1-1000 mu M with a detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.8 mu M for FA and in the range of 0.1-500 mu M and with a detection limit of 0.07 mu M for UA. It also presented superior reproducibility and long-term stability, as well as high selectivity. Moreover, the proposed sensor was successfully employed for the determination of FA and UA in spiked human urine samples with satisfactory results.
Electrochemical investigation of an anticancer drug 5-Fluorouracil in the presence of Theophylline using low-cost and disposable poly(GLY) modified pencil graphite electrode

Abstract:Herein this study, a facile, efficient and disposable electrochemical sensor has been prepared by electropolymerization of glycine (poly(GLY)) on the surface of pencil graphite electrode (PGE). The surface topology of the equipped poly(GLY) modified pencil graphite electrode (poly(GLY)/PGE) and bare pencil graphite electrode (BPGE) has been characterized by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX) and charge transfer behaviour was measured by electron impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method. The voltammetric behaviour of anticancer, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in the presence of theophylline (THP) has been carried out in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (PBS) of physiological pH 7.0 using different techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The proposed poly(GLY)/PGE shows augmented peak current for 5-FU at lower potential side over the BPGE due to the electrocatalytic behaviour of modifier layers wrapped on the electrode surface. The kinetic behaviour of 5-FU at modified electrode surface was studied by varying different parameters such as pH, scan rate and concentration study in 0.1 M PBS used as a supporting electrolyte. The limit of detection (LOD) for 5-FU was attained using DPV method with different concentrations (1.0-13.0 μM) and it was found to be 0.012 μM. The possible electrochemical reaction of 5-FU was proposed and it was incorporated by two electrons and two protons mechanism at modified electrode surface. The voltammetric response of poly(GLY)/PGE towards the determination of 5-FU was unaffected in the presence of some excipients in addition to the remarkable stability and reproducibility. The applicability of the proposed sensor has been performed by real sample investigation of 5-FU with a substantial percentage of recovery results in all optimized conditions.

Abstract:We described a nano-carbon ionic liquid electrode modified with palladium-doped graphene (Pd-GR/nano-CILE) for electrochemical analysis of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA). The surface morphologies of the electrodes and palladium-doped graphene (Pd-GR) were observed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used for investigating the electrochemical properties of the proposed sensor. The oxidation peaks of DA and UA were well separated at the Pd-GR/nano-CILE using differential pulse voltammetry. The sensor displayed good electrocatalytic activity toward DA and UA with increased peak currents and reduced peak potentials compared with conventional carbon paste electrode. Under optimal conditions, linear calibration plots for the analysis of DA and UA were obtained in the range of 5–200 μM, respectively. The detection limits (at an S/N ratio of 3) were 0.5 μM for DA and 0.8 μM for UA. The method was successfully applied to the determination of DA and UA in spiked human urine and serum samples.

Abstract:Pd-Pt bimetallic nanoparticles anchored on functionalized reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanomaterials were synthesized via a one-step in situ reduction process, in which Pt and Pd ions were first attached to poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) functionalized graphene oxide (GO) sheets, and then the encased metal ions and GO were subjected to simultaneous reduction by ethylene glycol. The as-prepared Pd3Pt1/PDDA-RGO nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical methods. In addition, an electrochemical sensor based on the graphene nanocomposites was fabricated for the simultaneous detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) in their ternary mixture. Three well-separated voltammetric peaks along with remarkable increasing electro-oxidation currents were obtained in differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements. Under the optimized conditions, there were linear relationships between the peak currents and the concentrations in the range of 40-1200 μM for AA, 4-200 μM for DA and 4-400 μM for UA, with the limit of detection (LOD) (based on S/N=3) of 0.61, 0.04 and 0.10 μM for AA, DA and UA, respectively. This improved electrochemical performance can be attributed to the synergistic effect of metallic nanoparticles and RGO and the combination of the bimetallic nanoparticles. Furthermore, the practical electroanalytical utility of the sensor was demonstrated by the determination of AA, DA and together with UA in human urine and blood serum samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:Propafenone hydrochloride (PPF) is an antiarrhythmic drug used for the treatment of heart diseases with complex pharmacokinetics and a strict requirement on dosage. Current analytical methods for PPF determination require expensive instruments or much time for sample pre-treatment. Thus, it is urgent to establish a simple and time-saving approach for PPF determination. In this work, the dual emissive carbon dots (DECDs) were synthesized through one-step solvothermal treatment with m-aminophenol and citric acid. Two separate fluorescence emission peaks at 340 nm and 420 nm of DECDs are observed under the excitation wavelength of 306 nm. In the presence of PPF, the fluorescence signal at 340 nm decreased, while the signal at 420 nm gradually increased. We interestingly found that the fluorescence signal ratio (F420/F340) linearly changed with the concentration of PPF. Therefore, a simple and time-saving ratiometric fluorescent approach for the determination of PPF was developed using DECDs as a probe, showing an excellent linear range from 900 to 100 μM. The detection limit is calculated to be 88 nM. It is a simple and low-cost strategy for PPF detection. The content of PPF was successfully analyzed in commercial tablets and in complex biological samples with satisfactory recoveries (ranging from 97.1 to 103.3%), showing great potential for application in clinical research.

Abstract:In this work, a novel electrochemical molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensor for fluxapyroxad (FP) was constructed. This MIP sensor was based on indole-6-carboxylic acid (6-IAA) and platinum (Pt) nanoparticles (NPs) supported amino-functionalized graphene (NH2-r-GO). Massive and ultrasmall Pt NPs (2-3 nm) were supported on NH2-r-GO, which was easily prepared using a simple, aqueous phase method. Pt NP was firstly generated using ascorbic acid as the reducant and hexadecylpyridinium chloride as the structure-directing agent; then, NPs were immediately loaded on the surface of the coexisting NH2-r-GO. Loading allowed for the interreaction between the amino group and Pt to form the hybrid nanocomposite. This hybrid material was then used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface, resulting in a Pt-NPs-NH2-r-GO / GCE. After this modification, FP was imprinted on the aforementioned electrode surface using cyclic voltammetry, with 6-IAA as the functional monomer. Finally, FP was eluted from the polymer, resulting in the MIP sensor. After rebinding the template molecules Fe(CN)63-/4- was used to measure the impedance of the MIP sensor. Results indicated an excellent response for FP across a linear range of 1.0×10-9 to 1.3×10-5 mol L-1; the detection limit was determined to be 1.0×10-10 mol L-1 (S/N= 3). This sensor was also used to detect FP in real samples, with results indicating it was a reliable sensor for FP.

Abstract:Let $n$ be a positive integer. Denote by $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ the $n$-dimensional projective space over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of order $q$. A blocking set in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ is a set of points that has non-empty intersection with every hyperplane of $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$. A blocking set is called minimal if none of its proper subsets are blocking sets. In this note we prove that if $\mathrm{PG}(n_i,q)$ contains a minimal blocking set of size $k_i$ for $i\in\{1,2\}$, then $\mathrm{PG}(n_1+n_2+1,q)$ contains a minimal blocking set of size $k_1+k_2-1$. This result is proved by a result on groups with maximal irredundant covers.
