Abstract:A Finite Element model of the face soft tissue is proposed to simulate the morphological outcomes of maxillofacial surgery. Three modelling options are implemented: a linear elastic model with small and large deformation hypothesis, and an hyperelastic Mooney-Rivlin model. An evaluation procedure based on a qualitative and quantitative comparison of the simulations with a post-operative CT scan is detailed. It is then applied to one clinical case to evaluate the differences between the three models, and with the actual patient morphology. First results shows in particular that for a "simple" clinical procedure where stress is less than 20%, a linear model seams sufficient for a correct modelling.

Abstract:Misinterpretation in the preceding Comment of my recent analysis of the past of a photon is corrected. There is nothing in this analysis which is "contrary to the usual quantum expectations" but, nevertheless, it does provide "further understanding and interpretation of the system considered". In particular, it teaches us that the naive common sense argument frequently used in the literature including the Comment has to be abandoned.

Black Holes and Information: A New Take on an Old Paradox

Abstract:Interest in the black hole information paradox has recently been catalyzed by the newer “firewall” argument. The crux of the updated argument is that previous solutions which relied on observer complementarity are in violation of the quantum condition of monogamy of entanglement, with the prescribed remedy being to discard the equivalence principle in favor of an energy barrier (or firewall) at the black hole horizon. Differing points of view have been put forward, including the “ER = EPR” counterargument and the final-state solution, both of which can be viewed as potential resolutions to the apparent conflict between quantum monogamy and Einstein equivalence. After reviewing these recent developments, this paper argues that the ER = EPR and final-state solutions can—thanks to observer complementarity—be seen as the same resolution of the paradox but from two different perspectives: inside and outside the black hole.

Two different efficient methods are presented to modify some details of N. Ba An's protocol, so that teleportation of two quNit entanglement can be successfully achieved in terms of the revised N. Abstract:Since the pillars of quantum theory were established, it was already noted that quantum physics may allow certain correlations defying any local realistic picture of nature, as first recognized by Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen. These quantum correlations, now termed quantum nonlocality and tested by violation of Bell's inequality that consists of statistical correlations fulfilling local realism, have found loophole-free experimental confirmation. A more striking way to demonstrate the conflict exists, and can be extended to the multipartite scenario. Here we report experimental confirmation of such a striking way, the multipartite generalized Hardy's paradoxes, in which no inequality is used and the conflict is stronger than that within just two parties. The paradoxes we consider here belong to a general framework [S.-H. Jiang et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 120 (2018) 050403], including previously known multipartite extensions of Hardy's original paradox as special cases. The conflict shown here is stronger than in previous multipartite Hardy's paradox. Thus, the demonstration of Hardy-typed quantum nonlocality becomes sharper than ever.
On two misconceptions in current relativistic quantum information

Abstract:We describe two problems current relativistic quantum information suffers from. The first point is an explanation of an alleged ambiguity of entropic quantities detected in a number of publications and incorrectly resolved in [M. Montero and E. Martin-Martinez, Physical Review A 83, 062323 (2011)]. We found that the problem arises due to wrong algebraic manipulations with fermions and ignoring the superselection rule for bosons and fermions. This leads to a misinterpretation of certain entropic quantities when applied to fermion fields. The second discussed point is to alert to a conceptual misunderstanding of the role of entanglement (and quantum correlations in general) in some of the studied relativistic scenarios. Instead, we argue in favor of investigating capacities of quantum channels induced by the relevant physical processes as dictated by quantum Shannon theory.

Abstract: A recent article by Mathur attempts a "precise formulation" for the paradox of black hole information loss [S. D. Mathur, arXiv:1108.0302v2 (hep-th)]. We point out that a key component of the above work, which refers to entangled pairs inside and outside of the horizon and their associated entropy gain or information loss during black hole evaporation, is a presumptuous false outcome not backed by the very foundation of physics. The very foundation of Mathur's above work is thus incorrect. We further show that within the framework of Hawking radiation as tunneling the so-called small corrections are sufficient to resolve the information loss problem.

We need to explore the new insights into quantum world using informational concept. On the other hand, it is necessary to keep a properly skeptical attitude to immaterialism and instrumentalism.

Revisiting the Black Hole Entropy and the Information Paradox

Abstract:The black hole information paradox and the black hole entropy are currently extensively researched. The consensus about the solution of the information paradox is not yet reached, and it is not yet clear what can we learn about quantum gravity from these and the related research. It seems that the apparently irreducible paradoxes force us to give up on at least one well-established principle or another. Since we are talking about a choice between the principle of equivalence from general relativity and some essential principles from quantum theory, both being the most reliable theories we have, it is recommended to proceed with caution and search more conservative solutions. These paradoxes are revisited here, as well as the black hole complementarity and the firewall proposals, with an emphasis on the less obvious assumptions. Some arguments from the literature are reviewed, and new counterarguments are presented. Some less considered less radical possibilities are discussed, and a conservative solution, which is more consistent with both the principle of equivalence from general relativity and the unitarity from quantum theory, is discussed.

Abstract:In 2004, Ba An Nguyen [Phys. Lett. A 328, 6-10] has presented a Quantum Dialogue scheme for simultaneously communicating their messages. In this comment, we show that the quantum dialogue scheme is not secure against the intercept-and-resend attack and we propose a modified scheme which is secure against that attack.

Abstract:We reply to the preceding comment which focused on whether there exists a quantum privacy amplification technique for purifying the unknown single-photon states transmitted. In this Reply, we will show that quantum privacy amplification is principally possible, and a specific scheme for direct communication protocol based on single photons has been constructed and will be published elsewhere. Then the secure direct quantum communication is secure against the attack strategy in the preceeding comment by using quantum privacy amplification directly.

Abstract:We discuss some seemingly paradoxical yet valid effects of quantum physics in information processing. Firstly, we argue that the act of “doing nothing„ on part of an entangled quantum system is a highly non-trivial operation and that it is the essential ingredient underlying the computational speedup in the known quantum algorithms. Secondly, we show that the watched pot effect of quantum measurement theory gives the following novel computational possibility: suppose that we have a quantum computer with an on/off switch, programmed ready to solve a decision problem. Then (in certain circumstances) the mere fact that the computer would have given the answer if it were run, is enough for us to learn the answer, even though the computer is in fact not run.

Abstract:We employ topos quantum theory as a mathematical framework for quantum logic, combining the strengths of two distinct intuitionistic quantum logics proposed by Döring and Coecke respectively. This results in a novel intuitionistic quantum logic that can capture contextuality, express the physical meaning of superposition phenomenon in quantum systems, and handle both measurement and evolution as dynamic operations. We emphasize that superposition is a relative concept dependent on contextuality. Our intention is to find a model from the perspective of quantum theory that accommodates semantic paradoxes. We refine Aerts et al.'s interpretation of the liar paradox using models from quantum mechanics and present a model based on quantum theory, incorporating contextuality and superposition to interpret semantic paradoxes. We associate the truth values of statements in semantic paradoxes with quantum states in a given context, interpreting statements with unclear truth value assignments as superposition states within the current context. Dynamic operations are employed to distinguish the truth value assignments of statements among different times. Unlike the classic interpretation of paradoxes, we accept the reasonable existence of semantic paradoxes and point out the difference between paradoxes and contradictions.
