Abstract:Room temperature recrystallization is an intriguing method of fabricating CsPbX3 perovskite quantum dots since it does not involve high temperature or inert atmosphere, offering a promising route to the mass production of CsPbX3 quantum dots at low cost. However, their performance stability during work was seldom investigated and was far from the requirements for practical applications. Here, we demonstrate a facile and low-cost method to significantly improve the thermal, photo- and water stability of room-temperature synthesized perovskite quantum dots by effectively suppressing the unfavored grain growth and surface trap states. The fabricated quantum dots of green-emitting CsPbBr3 and red-emitting CsPbBr1.2I1.8 were applied for quantum dot-converted white LEDs, which are capable of achieving a wide color gamut of 135% NTSC and 101% Rec. 2020. Abstract:The all-inorganic perovskite CsPbI 3 quantum dots are difficult to achieve pure red stable luminescence due to their poor lattice thermodynamic stability and non-radiative recombination loss caused by surface halide vacancies. Therefore, the pure red perovskites are usually achieved by mixing the composition of halides (Br and I). In this work, CsPb(Br/I) 3 quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by the hot-injection method under the synergistic effect of homophthalic acid (HA), 2-bromoethanesulphonic acid sodium salt (SBES), and oleylamine (OAm). By adjusting the molar ratio of passivates, the synergistic effect of multiple ligands can not only passivate the unliganded Pb 2+ -related defects on the surface of NCs, but also increase the formation energy of halide vacancies. Meanwhile, due to the bidentate structure of HA, smaller size of perovskites nanocrystals were obtained. Eventually, synergistic boost in device performance is achieved for color-by-blue white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with CIE coordinates of (0.3319, 0.3297) and have an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 10.13%. This strategy paves an efficient way for improving the efficiency and stability of CsPb(Br/I) 3 NCs.

Abstract:In this work, a facile solution based on the supersaturated crystallization principle combined with an ion exchange strategy was employed for the preparation of all-inorganic lead halide perovskite CsPbX 3 quantum dots (X = Cl, Br, I, and their combinations) under an ambient atmosphere. As the results showed, with the progression of Br–Cl and Br–I ion exchange, the green emission of pure CsPbBr 3 gradually turned to cyan and blue, yellow, and red, respectively. Thus, the emission featured a broad wavelength range from 472 nm to 638 nm. With regard to the morphology, the as-synthesized quantum dots were all spherical and monodisperse, and the crystal size increased from the blue to the red samples. Furthermore, the chemical composition investigated by energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the successful Br–Cl or Br–I ion exchange, and the obtained samples were expressed as CsPbBr 1.9 Cl 1.1 , CsPbBr 2.1 Cl 0.9 , CsPbBr 3 , CsPbBr 1.7 I 1.3 , and CsPbBr 0.9 I 2.1 for blue, cyan, green, yellow, and red samples, respectively. In future work, the as-synthesized samples will be investigated for use in an optoelectronic device application.

Rapid Large-Scale Synthesis of Highly Emissive Solid-State Metal Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots Across the Full Visible Spectrum

Abstract:The practical applications of solid-state inorganic CsPbX3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have been restricted by their poor stability. Herein, we report an efficient large-scale synthesis of solid-state CsPbX3 PQDs across the full visible spectra using 3-Aminopropyltrimethoxysilane as ligands at room temperature in open air. The obtained green CsPbBr3 solids display outstanding optical performance with high color purity of 90% and photoluminescence quantum yield of 69.2%. Thanks to the protection of silica coating, the solid-state product shows much higher thermal stability, photo stability and long-term stability than that of naked CsPbBr3 QDs. The blue CsPb(Br/Cl)3 and yellow or red CsPb(Br/I)3 PQDs solids can be simply obtained via using alkali metal halide aqueous solution as additives. The white LED fabricated by combining the obtained green CsPbBr3 QDs solid powders and commercial red K2SiF6: Mn4+ phosphor with a blue LED chip displays high luminous efficiency of 70.47 lm/W and the color gamut can cover over 129.4% of the National Television System Committee standard.

Abstract:The synthesis of α-CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots (QDs) with pure red emission around 630 nm is in high demand for display backlight application. However, the phase transition of α-CsPbI3 to yellow non-emitting δ-CsPbI3 has been proven to be a great challenge for the classic colloidal synthesis route for perovskite QDs in octadecene (ODE). Herein, we report a novel colloidal synthesis route by replacing ODE with lauryl methacrylate (LMA) as the reaction solvent to improve the solubility of precursors, resulting in small sized α-CsPbI3 QDs with a diameter of only 4.2 nm, which are the smallest red PQDs reported so far. The corresponding CsPbI3 QD films exhibit a tunable photoluminescence (PL) emission peak in the bright pure red region of 627 to 638 nm. The CsPbI3 QD polymer composite films with PL emission at 630 nm exhibit a superior photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and photostability to mixed halide CsPbBrI2 films under intense illumination. Perovskite light emitting diodes (LED) with the color gamut reaching 96% of the Rec. 2020 standard are achieved using these films. This study provides a high-performance pure red fluorescent material with a robust, low-cost, and reproducible colloidal chemistry that will pave the way for the adoption of perovskite QDs in display backlight application.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) have sparked extensive research focus on white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), but stability and photoluminescence efficiency issues are still remain obstacles impeding their practical application. Here, we reported a facile one-step method to synthesize CsPbBr3 PeQDs at room temperature using branched didodecyldimethylammonium fluoride (DDAF) and short-chain-length octanoic acid as capping ligands. The obtained CsPbBr3 PeQDs have a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield of 97% due to the effective passivation of DDAF. More importantly, they exhibit much improved stability against air, heat, and polar solvents, maintaining >70% of initial PL intensity. Making use of these excellent optoelectronic properties, WLEDs based on CsPbBr3 PeQDs, CsPbBr1.2I1.8 PeQDs, and blue LEDs were fabricated, which show a color gamut of 122.7% of the National Television System Committee standard, a luminous efficacy of 17.1 lm/W, with a color temperature of 5890 K, and CIE coordinates of (0.32, 0.35). These results indicate that the CsPbBr3 PeQDs have great practical potential in wide-color-gamut displays.

Abstract:The attractiveness and responsiveness of adult codling moths, Cydia pomonella (L.), exposed to EntostatTM powder with or without the ecdysteroid agonist, methoxyfenozide, were investigated in a flight tunnel. Coating males with either EntostatTM powder alone or powder plus methoxyfenozide 1 or 24 h prior to flight tunnel assays did not influence the mean percentages of males successfully orienting to a female‐equivalent lure relative to unexposed control moths. The fecundity of females paired with males exposed to EntostatTM powder plus methoxyfenozide was significantly lower than that for females paired with unexposed males. This reduction in egg output was similar to that observed when methoxyfenozide‐treated females were paired with untreated males, indicating that males can successfully pass methoxyfenozide to their partners during copulation. However, EntostatTM powder alone carried by male moths did not affect female fecundity after mating. EntostatTM powder has the potential to carry pesticides for C. pomonella control by autodissemination.
Synchronously Polishing the Lead-Rich Surface and Passivating Surface Defects of CsPb(Br/I)3 Quantum Dots for High-Performance Pure-Red PeLEDs

Abstract:Mixed-halide CsPb(Br/I)3 perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are regarded as one of the most promising candidates for pure-red perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) due to their precise spectral tuning property. However, the lead-rich surface of these QDs usually results in halide ion migration and nonradiative recombination loss, which remains a great challenge for high-performance PeLEDs. To solve the above issues, we employ a chelating agent of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid hydrate (DOTA) to polish the lead-rich surface of the QDs and meanwhile introduce a new ligand of 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) to passivate surface defects of the QDs. This synchronous post-treatment strategy results in high-quality CsPb(Br/I)3 QDs with suppressed halide ion migration and an improved photoluminescence quantum yield, which enables us to fabricate spectrally stable pure-red PeLEDs with a peak external quantum efficiency of 23.2%, representing one of the best performance pure-red PeLEDs based on mixed-halide CsPb(Br/I)3 QDs reported to date.

Abstract:Cesium lead iodide (CsPbI3) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have received widespread attention in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), solar cells, and photodetectors (PDs) for their high thermal stability resulting from all-inorganic components. However, the facile room-temperature synthesis of perovskite-phase CsPbI3 NCs remains a major challenge because of the thermal unequilibrium-induced metastable (black) to stable (yellow) phase transition. Here, we proposed a ligand-mediated strategy to synthesize γ-phase CsPbI3 perovskite NCs in non-polar solvent at room temperature for the first time. We found that the introduction of 4-dodecylben-zenesulfonic acid (DBSA) ligand could prevent CsPbI3 changing from the γ phase to the δ phase, which was attributed to the strong bonding and steric hindrance that suppressed the distortion of the corner-sharing octahedron. The as-synthesized CsPbI3 perovskite NCs were well-dispersed in organic solvents (such as toluene and hexane), which could serve as inks to construct the active layer for solution-processed optoelectronic devices (The PD with an on/off ratio of 200, and the LED showing an external quantum efficiency (EQE) approaching 6%). The proposed method showed superior universality as evidenced by the successful synthesis of efficient red-greenblue CsPbX3 NCs (the EQEs were 8.6%, 14.7%, and 3.4% for red, green, and blue LEDs, respectively). The results demonstrated that the room-temperature synthesis could avoid the tediousness of typical hot-injection at high temperatures and this method could be widely applied to various optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:All inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) and perovskite CsPbX3/SiO2 nanocomposites (PNCs) have shown their potentials for optical and lighting applications. We demonstrate a one-step approach to synthesize PQDs and PNCs more simply and effectively at room temperature in the open air. The resulting PNCs can show a narrow emission in the PL spectra and high stability under ambient conditions. In particular, both green CsPbBr3/SiO2 and red CsPbI3-xBrx/SiO2 PNCs can be obtained by employing this easy and low-cost method. Even, the SiO2 protection can also effectively prevent the halide exchange reaction between green and red PNCs, meaning the capability for white light applications. The resulting white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on the green and red PNCs coated on the blue LED have a white Commission Internationale del’ Enclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.375, 0.362) and a low correlated color temperature (CCT) of 4054 K.

Abstract:Colloidal all-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 nanocrystals present versatile outstanding optoelectronic properties as well as greatly improved stability when compared with their hybrid analogues. However, the performance of blue-emitting CsPbBr3 nanocrystals is still inferior to their green counterpart. Moreover, their synthesis generally demands a high temperature and inert gas environment. Synthesis of perovskite nanocrystals with high efficiency blue emission in air ambience is highly desired. In this work we demonstrate a top-down strategy for the facile synthesis of blue-emitting CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) in ambient air through cutting CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets (NPLs) into spherical QDs with the assistance of ultrasonication and hydrobromic acid (HBr) treatment. The CsPbBr3 QDs show excellent monodispersion with an average size of about 5 nm and a blue emission at 460 nm with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) of 53.2%. The key role of HBr is suggested to solubilize the inorganic cores of the NPLs and repair the surface. The CsPbBr3 QDs are used to prepare mixed phosphors emitting high quality white light.
Spectrally Stable Pure Red CsPbI3 Quantum Dots Light‐Emitting Diodes via Effective Low Temperature Gradient Centrifugation Separation and Surface Modification

Abstract:High‐quality and stable pure red CsPbI3 quantum dots are separated by low temperature gradient centrifugation to fabricate high‐performance and stable pure red light‐emitting diodes. Development of high‐performance and stable pure red perovskite light‐emitting devices (LEDs) promotes commercialization of perovskite. Benefiting from the quantum confinement effect, pure red CsPbI3 quantum dots (QDs) can avoid the color drift issue for mixed halide systems. Herein, a facile temperature‐dependent hot‐injection method combined with low temperature gradient centrifugation is employed to prepare 5.60 ± 0.05 nm pure red QDs. The QDs exhibit 642 nm photoluminescence (PL) with 37 nm full width at half maximum, and their Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates located at (0.708, 0.292) match well with standard pure red for Rec. 2020. The PL half‐lifetime for pure red QDs solution is 210 days under ambient conditions, and both the X and Y coordinates of CIE only fluctuate within (0.002, 0.002). Finally, a simple NH4I post‐treatment to decrease ligand length further boosts the QDs conductivity, and the pure red LED exhibits 9.4% maximum external quantum efficiency. The electroluminescence spectra exhibits a sharp peak at 645 nm, and their CIE coordinates are located at (0.707, 0.290). Furthermore, the pure red LED exhibits both good working and color stability. Its half‐lifetime is 25.1 min and color drifts are only (0.002, 0.002) after 30.0 min of continuous working at 60 cd m−2 with a constant current density of 3.5 mA cm−2.

Abstract:Abstract The red-emitting perovskite material has received widespread attention as a long-wavelength optical gain media. But the easy phase change in the air limits its practical application. Herein, red CsPbBr x I 3− x /SiO 2 quantum dots (QDs) are prepared by a ligand-mediated hot injection method in which 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES) is used instead of the usual oleylamine (OAm) ligand. Through the hydrolysis of amino groups, a thin silicon layer is formed on the QD surface, improving the stability and without causing the aggregation of QDs. We find that the ratio of I/Br and the size of QDs can be tuned by adjusting the APTES amount. Moreover, this ligand-mediated synthesis effectively passivates the surface defects, so the photoluminescence quantum yield is remarkably improved, and the carrier lifetime is prolonged. The amplified spontaneous emission is achieved under 532 nm nanosecond laser excitation. Compared with the original CsPbBrI 2 -OAm QD films, the threshold of CsPbBr x I 3− x /SiO 2 QD films is reduced from 403.5 to 98.7 μ J cm −2 , and the radiation stability is significantly enhanced. Therefore, this material shows great potential in the random laser field.

Abstract:Recently, tuning the green emission of CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) to blue through quantum size and confinement effects has received considerable attention due to its remarkable photophysical properties. However, the synthesis of such a blue-emitting QD has been challenging. Herein, supersaturated recrystallization was successfully implemented at room temperature to synthesize a broadband blue-emitting ZnBr2-doped CsPbBr3 QD with an average size of ~3 nm covering the blue spectrum. The structural and optical properties of CsPbBr3 QDs demonstrated that QD particle size may decrease by accommodating ZnBr2 dopants into the perovskite precursor solution. Energy-dispersive spectroscopy confirmed the presence of zinc ions with the QDs. This work provides a new strategy for synthesizing strongly quantum-confined QD materials for photonic devices such as light-emitting diodes and lighting.

Abstract:The strategy for the preparation of CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots by the high‐temperature solid‐phase melting method due to the confinement effect of mesoporous SiO2 microspheres, which demonstrated excellent stability and white LED performance, is reported. Perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have attracted widespread attention in optoelectronic fields due to their excellent optical properties. However, their instability issue hampers their further development and practical application. Herein, CsPbBr3 PQDs embedded in mesoporous SiO2 microspheres (CsPbBr3 PQDs/MSs) are prepared by the high‐temperature solid‐phase melting method due to the confinement effect. The prepared CsPbBr3 PQDs/MSs are treated by saturated Na2SO4 to form PbSO4 precipitation to fulfill the mesoporous gap. And such treatment endows the QDs with excellent water, light irradiation, and heating stability. The prepared products can maintain over 80% of the original fluorescence intensity even when it is immersed in water for 2 weeks. The CsPbBr3 PQDs/MSs are utilized in the white light‐emitting diode device with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage color coordinates of (0.3407, 0.3357) at 20 mA, and exhibit excellent photo stability at high power.

Abstract:High-performance pure red perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with an emission wavelength shorter than 650 nm are ideal for wide-color-gamut displays, yet remain an unprecedented challenge to progress. Mixed-halide CsPb(Br/I) 3 emitter-based PeLEDs suffer spectral stability induced by halide phase segregation and CsPbI 3 quantum dots (QDs) suffer from a compromise between emission wavelength and electroluminescence efficiency. Here, we demonstrate efficient pure red PeLEDs with an emission centered at 638 nm based on PbCl x -modified CsPbI 3 QDs. A nucleophilic reaction that releases chloride ions and manipulates the ligand equilibrium of the colloidal system is developed to synthesize the pure red emission QDs. The comprehensive structural and spectroscopic characterizations evidence the formation of PbCl x outside the CsPbI 3 QDs, which regulates exciton recombination and prevents the exciton from dissociation induced by surface defects. In consequence, PeLEDs based on PbCl x -modified CsPbI 3 QDs with superior optoelectronic properties demonstrate stable electroluminescence spectra at high driving voltages, a record external quantum efficiency of 26.1 %, optimal efficiency roll-off of 16.0 % at 1000 cd m −2 , and a half lifetime of 7.5 hours at 100 cd m −2 , representing the state-of-the-art pure red PeLEDs. This work provides new insight into constructing the carrier-confined structure on perovskite QDs for high-performance PeLEDs.

Suppressing Ion Migration of Mixed‐Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots for High Efficiency Pure‐Red Light‐Emitting Diodes

Abstract:An anion exchange process using HBr is developed and used to achieve pure‐red emitting CsPbI3‐xBrx quantum dots, with 1‐dodecanethiol ligands used to suppress halide ion migration. The light‐emitting diodes based on the quantum dos show a stable electroluminescence peak at 637 nm, and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 21.8% with an average value of 20.4%. Perovskite‐based light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) with a mixed halide composition can be used to obtain the "pure red" emission, i.e., in the 620–650 nm range, required for high‐definition displays. However, fast halide ion migration induces phase separation in these materials under electric fields, resulting in poor spectral stability and low efficiency. Herein, a method for producing mixed halide CsPbI3‐xBrx quantum dots (QDs) is reported in which ion migration is suppressed. The mixed halide composition is first achieved by anion exchange between CsPbI3 QDs and hydrobromic acid (HBr), during that the bromine ions efficiently passivate the iodine vacancies of the QDs. The original oleic acid ligands are then exchanged for 1‐dodecanethiol (1‐DT), which suppresses halide ion migration via the strong binding of the sulfhydryl group with the QD surface. PeLEDs based on these QDs exhibit a pure‐red electroluminescence (EL) peak at 637 nm, a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 21.8% with an average value of 20.4%, a peak luminance of 2653 cd m−2, and low EQE decease with increasing luminance. The EL spectrum of these devices is stable even at 6.7 V and they have an EQE half‐life of 70 min at an initial luminance of 150 cd m−2.

Abstract:All inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbX 3 ; X = Cl, Br, or I) quantum dots (QDs) have received widespread attention as a class of favorable optical gain materials. The key issue of CsPbX 3 perovskites is their instability under light or exposure to air. Notably, the inherent phase instability of CsPbI 3 QDs severely restricts the development of red-light emission. Herein, we propose a simple method to post-process CsPbBr 3 QDs with a ZnI 2 solution. The prepared CsPbBr y I 3−y (named CPBI- z, where z corresponds to the photoluminescence peaks' position) QDs exhibit adjustable photoluminescence in the range of 550–640 nm. The photoluminescence quantum yield is increased from 73.3% to 97.2% as the surface defects of QDs are passivated by I − and Zn 2+ . Compared with the pristine CsPbBr 3 QDs, the post-processed QDs are more stable under ultraviolet irradiation and in the air. Aside from that, under 532 nm nanosecond laser excitation, CPBI- z QD films exhibit excellent amplified spontaneous emission performance. The CPBI-640 QD film shows a low threshold, 102 μJ cm −2 for red stable amplified spontaneous emission.

Abstract:The emission of cyan light (470 nm-500 nm), an essential component of the visible light spectrum, plays a crucial role in lighting, display, and light communication. CsPbBr 3 quantum dots (QDs) have shown excellent performance in the green spectral regions, with high color purity, efficiency, and brightness. In order to shift the emission wavelength to the cyan, mixed-halide compositions and quantum-confinement engineering have been employed. Unfortunately, mixed-halide perovskites exhibit undesirable phase separation during optical and electrical excitations, leading to spectral instability. Quantum confinement in pure-halide QDs requires synthetic protocols that involve high loading of long-chain insulating ligands. In this study, we report color-stable cyan CsPbBr 3 quantum dots (C-PQDs) by surface passivation via incorporating Zn 2+ cations. The incorporation of ZnBr 2 into the precursor solution facilitates Zn 2+ and Br - substitution into the QDs surface/subsurface layers to induce passivation of existing Pb 2+ and Br - vacancies and increase the photoluminescence quantum yield from 53.6% to 96.4% at 480 nm. Moreover, after storage under ambient conditions for 30 days or exposure to ultraviolet light for 60 minutes or heating at 333 K, the PL intensity of ZnBr 2 -treated C-PQDs only shows a minimal decrease. Furthermore, white and cyan light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are successfully constructed, suggesting that the proposed ZnBr 2 -treated strategy can promote the development of perovskite materials for a wider range of optoelectronic applications.
