Abstract:Pd(II)-catalyzed oxidation of terminal olefins to methyl ketones has emerged as an attractive strategy for organic synthesis. Here we report the Pd(II)-catalyzed selective oxidation of olefins using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant and 2-(1H-indazol-1-yl)quinoline as the ligand. A wide range of olefins were well tolerated in this reaction system to provide methyl ketones, whereas the presence of Ac2O initiated the oxo-acyloxylation to afford the α-acetoxyacetone products. Isotope labeling studies and active-intermediate-capture experiments were performed to elucidate the underlying selective reaction mechanism. Notably, the generation of α-acetoxyacetone products involves the palladium enolate intermediate while the methyl ketone products were generated through the most commonly proposed alkylperoxide intermediates, followed by 1,2-hydride migration.

Abstract:A highly site-selective palladium-catalyzed ortho-mono-aroyloxylation of O-aralkyl substituted acetoxime ethers via direct Csp(2)-H bond activation has been developed with simple exo-acetoxime as a directing group. The broad scope of masked aralkylalcohols and various aromatic acid partners are compatible with this transformation, which should undergo a mechanistic pathway of six, seven, or even eight-membered exo-cyclopalladated intermediates. In addition, the acetoxime directing group can be readily removed through N-O bond selective cleavage at a late stage, providing a potential utility for the preparation of valuable functionalized aromatic alcohols.

Abstract:AbstractA novel copper‐catalyzed, multiple oxidative dehydrogenative functionalization of arylacetaldehydes leading to 2‐oxo‐acetamidine compounds has been developed. This transformation is highly efficient with dissociation of six hydrogens including two sp3 CH and one sp2 CH bond activations. This method not only provides an efficient approach to 2‐oxo‐acetamidine compounds, but also offers a valuable mechanistic insight into this novel copper catalysis.

Abstract:The novel carbon-based acid catalyst has been applied to catalyzing the acetalization and ketalization. The results showed that the catalyst was very efficient with the average yield over 93%. The novel heterogeneous catalyst has the advantages of high activity, wide applicability even to 7-membered ring acetals, strikingly simple workup procedure, non-pollution, and reusability, which will contribute to the green process greatly.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed oxidative C-H bond functionalization/ortho-acylation of acetanilides using easily accessible aldehyde as the acyl source is described. In the presence of a Pd(TFA)(2) catalyst and tert-butylhydroperoxide at 90 °C in general, an array of ortho-acylacetanilides can be afforded in good yields.

Abstract:We disclose herein a novel photoredox and cobalt co-catalyzed ring-opening/acceptorless dehydrogenative functionalization of mono-donor cyclopropanes, which providing a sustainable and atom-economic approach to rapidly assemble a wide range of allylic N,O-acyl-acetal derivatives. The optimized conditions accommodate assorted cycloalkylamides and primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols, with applications in late-stage functionalization of pharmaceutically relevant compounds, stimulating the further utility in medicinal chemistry. Moreover, selective nucleophilic substitutions with various carbon nucleophiles were succeed in a one-pot fashion, offering a reliable avenue to access some cyclic and acyclic derivatives.

Abstract:The C-O bond cleavage for activation of alcohols is synthetically useful and practically challenging. This work describes carbazate as a new type of electrochemically activated alkylating agent derived from ubiquitous alcohols for direct functionalization of heteroarenes under mild electrolytic conditions. The simple undivided cell at low oxidative potentials with carbon/platinum electrode set-ups offers excellent substrate tolerance, affording a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl-decorated heterocycles in good chemical yields. Furthermore, the mechanism for this electrochemical deoxyalkylation reaction has been investigated.

Abstract:A number of fused acetal derivatives were prepared in 82-90% yield by tetrabutylammonium peroxydisulfate-mediated oxidative cycloaddition of 1,3-diketones or 1,3-diketoesters to cyclic enol ethers in the presence of a base such as potassium acetate in acetonitrile.

Abstract:A practical palladium-catalyzed ortho-olefination of O-acetyl cyanohydrins assisted by synergetic directing groups has been developed. Thus, a range of olefinated O-acetyl cyanohydrins were synthesized in moderate to good yields. The reaction occurs efficiently with high regioselectivity and with a satisfactory tolerance of functional groups.

Abstract:Enabled by iridium photoredox catalysis, 2-oxo-2-(hetero)arylacetic acids were decarboxylatively added to various Michael acceptors including α,β-unsaturated ester, ketone, amide, aldehyde, nitrile, and sulfone at room temperature. The reaction presents a new type of acyl Michael addition using stable and easily accessible carboxylic acid to formally generate acyl anion through photoredox-catalyzed radical decarboxylation.

Abstract:An efficient palladium-catalyzed ortho-aroylation of O-arylmethyl and aryl-substituted acetoxime ethers has been developed; this method has high mono-site selectivity and does not require exogenous ligands. Under the direction of a simple exo-acetoxime auxiliary, a broad scope of masked arylmethyl alcohols and phenols as well as various aromatic aldehydes are compatible with this transformation, which probably follows a mechanistic pathway involving a six- or five-membered exo-cyclopalladated intermediate. The strategy can be expediently adopted to prepare synthetically valuable 1H-benzo[d][1,2]oxazines and benzo[d]isoxazoles. The directing group can be easily removed from the products to afford the functionalized diaryl ketones.

Abstract:Efficient copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative C-H and C-C functionalization of 1-[2-(arylamino)aryl]ethanones leading to acridones has been developed. The procedure involves cleavage of aromatic C-H and acetyl C-C bonds with intramolecular formation of a diarylketone bond. The protocol uses inexpensive Cu(O2CCF3)2 as catalyst, pyridine as additive, and economical and environmentally friendly oxygen as the oxidant, and the corresponding acridones with various functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:The oxidation of primary alcohols and aldehydes to the corresponding carboxylic acids is a fundamental reaction in organic synthesis. In this paper, we report a new chemoselective process for the oxidation of primary alcohols and aldehydes. Abstract:α-Azidoketones are valuable and versatile building blocks in the synthesis of various bioactive small molecules. Herein, we describe an environmentally friendly and efficient electrochemical vicinal oxyazidation protocol of α-arylvinyl acetates to afford diverse α-azidoketones in good yields without the use of a stoichiometric amount of chemical oxidant. A range of functionality is shown to be compatible with this transformation, and further applications are demonstrated.

Abstract:A highly diastereoselective Pd-catalyzed carbonyl allylation of aldehydes and isatins directly using simple acyclic olefins as allylating reagents is described. This transformation is actually a sequential process consisting of a Pd-catalyzed oxidative allylic C-H borylation and an allylboration of carbonyls accelerated by phosphoric acid, wherein a wide scope of olefins could be tolerated. The oxidant is revealed to play a key role in the successful realization of the allylic C-H activation-based allylation.

Abstract:A highly efficient and green aerobic oxidation has been developed for selectively preparing a series of valuable 2,6-dialkyl-, dialkoxyl-, and alkoxylalkyl-substituted 4-hydroxybenzaldehydes from corresponding 4-cresols in good to excellent yields, using a catalytic system of Co(OAc)(2)center dot 4H(2)O (1.0mol%)-NaOH (1.0 equiv)-O-2 (1.0atm) in aqueous ethylene glycol (EG/H2O=20/1, v/v) at 50 degrees C. Furthermore, a plausible mechanism was proposed for the direct oxyfunctionalization of the aromatic methyl group into the aldehyde group.
