Abstract:Graphene shows great promise as a high-efficiency electrothermal film for flexible transparent defoggers/defrosters. However, it remains a great challenge to achieve a good balance between the production cost and the properties of graphene films. Here, we proposed a cost-effective self-assembly method to fabricate high-performance, large-area graphene oxide/electrochemically exfoliated graphene hybrid films for heater applications. The self-assembled graphene hybrid films with the area of 20 x 20 cm(2) could be transferred onto arbitrary substrates with nonplanar surfaces and simply patterned with the hard mask. After reduction by hydrogen iodide vapor followed by 800 degrees C thermal treatment, the hybrid films with the transmittance of 76.2% exhibit good heating characteristics and defogging performance, which reach a saturation temperature of up to 127.5 degrees C when 40 V was applied for 60 s. Abstract:2‐dimensional (2‐D) metallic grids that consist of various nanomaterials that are suitable for the replacement of indium tin oxide in transparent electronics (TEs) manufacturing. High‐resolution conductive grids with large open areas are often required while taking into consideration high transmittance. However, previous research shows that this kind of transparent electronic often cannot have high transmittance and low sheet resistance simultaneously; it hinders the fabrication techniques and materials from practical applications. In this work, we report the direct fabrication of a high‐performance TE through electrohydrodynamic jet 3‐dimensional (3‐D) printing technique. Micro‐scale 3‐D metallic grids with an aspect‐ratio of above‐5 were printed on a polyester film by using Ag nanoparticles. The metal grids with high aspect‐ratios exhibited an average sheet resistance of 3 Ω sq.–1 and transparency of 96%. Both optical and electrical performances were significantly enhanced for which the large cross‐section of the metallic grid is contributed. Furthermore, the flexibility of printed TE was also characterized by the bending and recovering test. We believed that the printed flexible TE, which utilized a high aspect‐ratio, 3‐D metallic grids may replace the conventional ITO glass for which both high transmittance and conductivity are achieved with economic efficiency.This article is protected by copyright. An Aqueous Process for Preparing Flexible Transparent Electrodes Using Non-Oxidized Graphene/Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Hybrid Solution

Abstract:In this study, we prepared flexible and transparent hybrid electrodes based on an aqueous solution of non-oxidized graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes. We used a simple halogen intercalation method to obtain high-quality graphene flakes without a redox process and prepared hybrid films using aqueous solutions of graphene, single-walled carbon nanotubes, and sodium dodecyl sulfate surfactant. The hybrid films showed excellent electrode properties, such as an optical transmittance of ≥90%, a sheet resistance of ~3.5 kΩ/sq., a flexibility of up to ε = 3.6% ((R) = 1.4 mm), and a high mechanical stability, even after 103 bending cycles at ε = 2.0% ((R) = 2.5 mm). Using the hybrid electrodes, thin-film transistors (TFTs) were fabricated, which exhibited an electron mobility of ~6.7 cm2 V-1 s-1, a current on-off ratio of ~1.04 × 107, and a subthreshold voltage of ~0.122 V/decade. These electrical properties are comparable with those of TFTs fabricated using Al electrodes. This suggests the possibility of customizing flexible transparent electrodes within a carbon nanomaterial system.
Fabrication of submicron linewidth silver grid/ionogel hybrid films for highly stable flexible transparent electrodes via asymmetric wettability template-assisted self-assembly

Abstract:High-performance flexible transparent electrodes are the basis for the continuous upgrading of optoelectronic devices. Silver grids are attractive for replacing traditional indium tin oxide (ITO) as the premier transparent electrode materials, due to their high transmittance, excellent conductivity, and low cost. However, large linewidth and oxidation of silver grids are limiting the practical application of the resulting optoelectronic devices. Here, we report an effective and scalable solution-based method to prepare highly stable flexible transparent silver grid electrodes with submicron linewidth by the asymmetric wettability template-assisted self-assembly of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), which is then encapsulated by a thin transparent conductive ionogel as protective layer. It is demonstrated that the linewidth of silver grids can be precisely controlled by the concentration of the AgNP dispersion. Wrapping with the ionogel nanolayer have no deterioration for conductivity and transmittance of the grid electrodes. The optimized hybrid grid electrodes exhibit low sheet resistance of 24.6 Ω sq −1 and high transparency of 99%. More importantly, the introduction of the iongel nanolayer endows the hybrid grid electrodes with excellent mechanical flexibility and thermal, electrical, and chemical stability. As a proof of concept demonstration, the submicron linewidth silver grid/ionogel hybrid films are successfully used to fabricate flexible smart windows and transparent touch panel. We envision that this work will shed new light on the development of next-generation optoelectronic applications which need ultrahigh resolution displays.

Abstract:Transparent, flexible conducting films were fabricated by using a metallic grid and graphene hybrid film. Transparent electrodes using the hybrid film and transparent substrate such as glass or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films were assembled. The sheet resistance of the fabricated transparent electrodes was as low as 3 Ω/◻ with the transmittance at ∼80%. At 90% transmittance, the sheet resistance was ∼20 Ω/◻. Both values are among the highest for transparent electrode materials to date. The materials used for the new hybrid electrode are earth-abundant stable elements, which increase their potential usefulness for replacement of indium tin oxide (ITO) in many applications.

Abstract:Semi-embedded periodic Ag grids were combined with FTO/glass substrates based on laser direct writing to prepare transparent electrodes (TEs). The laser etching parameters (scanning velocity and energy density), grid shape, and unit-grid circumcircle radius were systematically optimized. The optimal scanning velocity and energy density for obtaining ideal laser-etched grooves were determined to be 10 mm/s and 1.6 J/cm 2 , respectively. The hexagonal Ag grid/FTO TE using the 1.00-mm unit-grid circumcircle radius prepared from the optimal laser etching parameters showed significantly decreased sheet resistance and slightly lowered light transmittance as compared to the FTO/glass substrate. This TE was employed for fabricating a transparent heater (TH), which could reach a steady-state temperature of 137.7 °C within 60 s at a voltage of 4.0 V and maintain good heating and cycling stability in 10 continuous switch heating/cooling cycles under different voltages (0.8–4.0 V). The application prospect of the TH was demonstrated by a de-icing experiment. Introducing semi-embedded periodic Ag grids with a suitable grid shape and unit-grid circumcircle radius can contribute to a great improvement in electrical conductivity of the substrate and, thus, its comprehensive performance, providing a great inspiration for optimized preparation of high-performance TEs.

A Prospective Study of Clinical Profile in Patients of Palmoplantar Dermatoses

Abstract:Background: Palms and soles are the readily visible areas of the body that are affected in various dermatoses. This may have considerable concern to the patient and can cause diagnostic dilemma. Moreover, palmoplantar dermatoses also limit our day to day activities with a significant impact on quality of life. Aim: To study the clinical profile of patients suffering from palmoplantar dermatoses at a tertiary care centre. Patients and Methods: A prospective observational study was carried out from June 2014 to May 2015 in the Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Leprosy at a rural tertiary care centre after taking approval from the institutional ethical committee. In total, 202 cases were enrolled. The study was analyzed using Chi-square test. Results: A total of 202 patients were enrolled, among which 53.46% were males. The most common age group affected was 17–40 years (42.57%). Duration of less than 1 month was seen in 31.7% cases whereas 29.7% showed seasonal variation. The most common chief complaint was itching (69.8%). Palmoplantar psoriasis was the most common dermatosis with 28.22% cases, followed by keratinizing disorders with 26.72% cases. Palms were involved in 66.34% cases, soles in 69.30%, and both palms and soles in 37.12% cases. Other body parts were involved in 15.34% of the cases. Diabetes and hypertension were common comorbid conditions seen in 11.4% of the cases each. Conclusion: Palmoplantar psoriasis was the most common disorder affecting palms and soles followed by palmoplantar keratoderma.
High-Performance Flexible Transparent Electrode with an Embedded Metal Mesh Fabricated by Cost-Effective Solution Process.

Abstract:A new structure of flexible transparent electrodes is reported, featuring a metal mesh fully embedded and mechanically anchored in a flexible substrate, and a cost-effective solution-based fabrication strategy for this new transparent electrode. The embedded nature of the metal-mesh electrodes provides a series of advantages, including surface smoothness that is crucial for device fabrication, mechanical stability under high bending stress, strong adhesion to the substrate with excellent flexibility, and favorable resistance against moisture, oxygen, and chemicals. The novel fabrication process replaces vacuum-based metal deposition with an electrodeposition process and is potentially suitable for high-throughput, large-volume, and low-cost production. In particular, this strategy enables fabrication of a high-aspect-ratio (thickness to linewidth) metal mesh, substantially improving conductivity without considerably sacrificing transparency. Various prototype flexible transparent electrodes are demonstrated with transmittance higher than 90% and sheet resistance below 1 ohm sq(-1) , as well as extremely high figures of merit up to 1.5 × 10(4) , which are among the highest reported values in recent studies. Finally using our embedded metal-mesh electrode, a flexible transparent thin-film heater is demonstrated with a low power density requirement, rapid response time, and a low operating voltage.

Abstract:The outstanding electrical 1 , mechanical 2 , 3 and chemical 4 , 5 properties of graphene make it attractive for applications in flexible electronics 6 , 7 , 8 . However, efforts to make transparent conducting films from graphene have been hampered by the lack of efficient methods for the synthesis, transfer and doping of graphene at the scale and quality required for applications. Here, we report the roll-to-roll production and wet-chemical doping of predominantly monolayer 30-inch graphene films grown by chemical vapour deposition onto flexible copper substrates. The films have sheet resistances as low as ∼125 Ω □ −1 with 97.4% optical transmittance, and exhibit the half-integer quantum Hall effect, indicating their high quality. We further use layer-by-layer stacking to fabricate a doped four-layer film and measure its sheet resistance at values as low as ∼30 Ω □ −1 at ∼90% transparency, which is superior to commercial transparent electrodes such as indium tin oxides. Graphene electrodes were incorporated into a fully functional touch-screen panel device capable of withstanding high strain.
Wetting-Induced Fabrication of Graphene Hybrid with Conducting Polymers for High-Performance Flexible Transparent Electrodes

Abstract:Graphene has attracted extensive attention for the supply of electrically conductive, optically transparent, and mechanical robust electrodes for flexible optoelectrical devices, as an alternative to commercial indium tin oxide, due to its superior mechanical, electrical, and optical properties. However, conventional chemical vapor deposition is impeded by harsh conditions and complicated processes, and it is still a challenge to fabricate high-performance graphene transparent electrode in a facile and scalable solution-processable route. Herein, a wetting-induced scalable solution-processable approach to fabricate graphene hybrid with conductive ionogel and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), i.e., graphene/:PSS (G/:PSS), for high-performance flexible transparent electrode (FTE) is reported, achieving a low sheet resistance of 30 Ω sq<sup>–1</sup> and a high transmittance of 88% at 550 nm. The as-fabricated trinary hybrid FTE as both transparent electrode and electrochromic layer is applied to a compact indium tin oxide (ITO)-free three-layered flexible electrochromic device, showing fast switching response, good electrochromic contrast, and reliable stability. Directly patterned ITO nanoparticle-based transparent electrode using co-solvent-based aerosol jet printing for transparent thin film heaters

Abstract:High-performance transparent thin film heaters (TFHs) employing cost-effective nanoparticle-based transparent electrodes have attracted significant attention for applications in multifunctional smart windows. This study demonstrates the fabrication of high-performance TFHs featuring directly patterned Sn-doped In 2 O 3 (ITO) nanoparticle electrodes using a methanol and ethylene glycol co-solvent-based aerosol jet printing (AJP) process. Our method utilizes a co-solvent ITO nanoparticle solution, blending methanol and ethylene glycol, to improve the surface uniformity and roughness of the AJP-processed ITO nanoparticle electrodes. The optimization of these electrodes was assessed using the figure of merit (FoM=T 10 /R sh ) value, derived from the transparency and sheet resistance of the electrodes. As a result of the AJP process and post-annealing optimization, the directly patterned ITO nanoparticle electrodes exhibited a high FoM value of 16.1 Ω −1 , attributed to a high optical transmittance of 90.6 % and low sheet resistance of 23.20 Ω/sq. These optimized ITO nanoparticle electrodes were subsequently applied to TFHs through precise patterning of ITO electrodes via AJP. The ITO nanoparticle-based TFHs, benefiting from superior conductivity and precise AJP patterning, demonstrated a saturation temperature of 118.2 °C when subjected to a voltage of 9 V. Thermal stability and uniformity tests showed a temperature deviation of less than 5 %, validating the reliability of the TFHs. The performance of the AJP-processed ITO nanoparticle-based TFHs highlights the feasibility of cost-effective transparent TFHs for multifunctional smart windows, showing potential applications in electric vehicles and next-generation smart buildings.

Abstract:A flexible and transparent thin‐film heater with a PTFE/APC/IZO multilayer structure is fabricated using a 4‐inch magnetron sputtering system. The optimized sheet resistance and transmittance exhibited values of 9.73 Ω sq−1 and 80.08% at a wavelength of 550 nm, respectively, and demonstrated outstanding mechanical flexibility. resulting in a stable 101.9 °C saturation temperature at 12 V. Highly flexible, transparent, and conductive polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/AgPdCu (APC)/indium zinc oxide (IZO) hybrid films are developed for use in transparent and flexible thin‐film heaters (FTFHs) integrated into electric vehicles. By controlling the thickness of each layer, PTFE/APC/IZO multilayer electrodes with a low sheet resistance of 9.73 Ω/sq and high transmittance of 80.08% at a wavelength of 550 nm and outstanding mechanical flexibility even though it is prepared at room temperature is obtained. In multilayer electrodes, each component plays a specific role, this is, IZO acts as a transparent barrier, APC is the main conduction path, and PTFE is the adhesive layer. Notably, the optimal PTFE/APC/IZO multilayer exhibited superior mechanical flexibility compared with that of the IZO/Ag/IZO multilayer owing to the soft PTFE adhesive layer. The FTFH with the optimized PTFE/APC/IZO multilayer demonstrated a high saturation temperature of 101.9 °C at a low input voltage of 12 V owing to the low sheet resistance and stability provided by the IZO barrier layer. Therefore, the PTFE/APC/IZO hybrid electrodes prepared via a continuous sputtering process provide an effective strategy for achieving high‐performance transparent FTFHs for next‐generation electric vehicles.

Abstract:In this study, graphene oxide (GO)‐silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ) composite ink was prepared with stable printability, which could match the direct-write print technique for patterning GO-AgNO 3 composite structure. Reduced graphene oxide (rGO)‐silver (Ag) porous structure could be obtained with a freeze-drying and gas phase reduction process. The rGO-Ag porous structure could reach a conductivity of 3.2 × 10 5 S/m through quantum penetration effect with the bridging action. Subsequently, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) encapsulated the rGO-Ag porous structure, and a special composite structure of PDMS/ rGO-Ag/PDMS films could be obtained by adjusting the wetting effect. PDMS provided a good tensile property and excellent bending resistance, and then a relative resistance changes within 5 % could be achieved after the number of 10,000 bending times. With the rGO-Ag porous structure compressed into a thinner film, an ultra-precise flexible electrothermal performance could be realized with the conductive network and flexible package structure. The surface temperature of fabricated composite film could reach 201.3 °C at the voltage of 7 V, within a heating time of 25 s, and maintaining the temperature for 1800 s. Meanwhile, the flexible electrothermal film could keep a stable temperature after 120 power on/power off cycles. Furthermore, the flexible electrothermal film also has a linear temperature control ability, which could carry out the linear temperature control with different temperature regions. At last, the ultra-precise flexible electrothermal film exhibits an excellent applying effect for the wrist hot compress, pipeline heating and window cleaning with uneven ice thickness. Therefore, the direct-write printed porous graphene-Ag structure presents a special property for fabricating ultra-precise flexible electrothermal film, which could provide a great research significance and application value in printing electronic structure and manufacturing electronic device.

Abstract:The authors report a case of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) that is supplied by a lateral sacral artery. A 73-year-old male presented with gait disturbance that had developed 3 years ago. Spinal magnetic resonance imaging suggested a possible SDAVF. Selective spinal angiography including the vertebral arteries and pelvic vessels showed the SDAVF fed by left lateral sacral artery. The patient was subsequently treated with glue embolization. Three days after the embolization procedure, his gait disturbance was much improved.
Ultraflexible transparent conductive films based on Ag nanowires for use in quick thermal response transparent heater

Abstract:This work reports on the fabrication of an ultraflexible transparent conductive hybrid films via embedding silver nanowires (AgNWs) into a thin UV-curable resin film. This AgNW/UV-curable resin hybrid film exhibits excellent performance in terms of conductivity (sheet resistance: 9.9 Ω/sq.) and transparency (optical transmittance: 86.4%). After bending 1000 times at a 100 μm curvature radius or even undergoing an ultrasonication test, it still shows excellent electrical performance and negligible decay. The hybrid film has environmental endurance, and there is no significant performance degradation after being kept at high temperature (85 °C) and high humidity (85% humidity) for 60 h. Finally, the successful implementation of the hybrid film into a transparent film heater is demonstrated. The efficient Joule heating can increase the temperature of the heaters to 121 °C in ∼12 s at an input voltage of 6 V. The fast-heating characteristics at low voltages associated with its transparency and flexibility properties make the heaters a potential candidate in electrothermal applications, such as transparent soft actuators, wearable heaters, and medical thermotherapy pads.

Abstract:The flexible transparent film heater described in this research was based on graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Natural polyphenols gallic acid (GA) was chosen as the “green” reducing agent of graphene oxide (GO) to prepare the GA-functionalized GO (GGO). Then, the GGO nanosheets were introduced into the CNT network, and the GGO/CNT-PET composite films were successfully prepared by a simple spraying method. This type of transparent conductive film (TCF) possesses an excellent optoelectronic performance (Rs = 49.1 Ω/sq., T = ca. 80% at 550 nm) and a very low RMS roughness (approximately 6.89 nm). The sheet resistance of the films changed slightly after the 1000 bending cycles and 100 h of air exposure time, which indicated that the film has good mechanical properties and environmental stability. The composite TCFs were further applied to fabricate transparent film heaters (TFHs) and showed excellent Joule heating performance, fast response speed, good cycling stability, long-term stability, and controllable operating temperature (the power density of the TFHs shows an approximate linear behavior), which satisfy the requirements of TFHs in practical applications, such as safe voltage and temperature in wearable devices, the stable controlling temperature in smart windows, fast heating in defoggers, and so on.

Abstract:We demonstrate the facile fabrication of flexible and transparent heating structures via the soft-contact printing and patterning (SCOP) of an ionic metal solution layer, a process generally applicable to flat, flexible, and curved surfaces with scalable sizes. The SCOP process involves the conformal contact of a soft micropattern mold onto an ionic metal solution and mild thermal annealing under controlled temperature and pressure conditions to reduce metal ions into a micropatterned metallic structure. Through parametric optimization of the SCOP pressure and annealing temperature, multilayering with sequential SCOP processes, and airbrush coating of a carbon nanotube solution, a printable metallic micropattern can be tailored to a high-performance transparent heater capable of achieving the temperature up to ~ 125 °C at 8 V and optical transmittance of 80% (achievable > 250 °C at 5 V when multilayered and CNT-reinforced). The scalability and solution processability of the developed process pave the way for the high-throughput eco-friendly fabrication of flexible and transparent heaters on arbitrary surfaces as well as many practical devices, including but not limited to printable electronic and photonic components and wearable sensors as well as warm-up gear.

Abstract:Highly flexible silver nanowire-based transparent conductive films (AgNWs TCFs) were large-scale fabricated by slot-die coating AgNWs inks on a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate, and further fabricated into a transparent film heater. Appropriate flow rate, coating speed, and AgNWs concentration allow the construction of the 15 cm × 15 cm AgNW TCFs with a sheet resistance (Rs) of less than 20 Ω/sq, a transmittance (T) at 550 nm higher than 95%, and a haze less than 3.5%. The resultant AgNW TCFs heater possesses high uniformity and superior mechanical stability and can reach a Joule heating temperature of 104 °C with a voltage of 12 V. The slot-die coating method has great potential for large-scale production of AgNW based film heaters promisingly used in window defrost and deicer systems.

Abstract:To realize high performance flexible transparent electronics with extreme environmental adaptivity, Ag nanowires (Ag NWs) electrodes should simultaneously meet the requirements of high-temperature tolerance, chemical and mechanical robustness. Herein, a scalable Ag NWs bundle micro-meshes embedded in polyimide (Ag BMs/ePI) conducting film via a facile spray coating and transfer method is reported. Due to the synergistic effect of bundle micromesh and embedded architecture, the Ag BMs/ePI electrode exhibits high thermal stability (370 °C and 400 °C under ambient and nitrogen atmosphere conditions, respectively), low sheet resistance variation (<4%), good corrosion and deformation resistance. As an electrical heater, the Ag BMs/ePI can achieve ~204 °C with the fast thermal response time of ~8 s at 8 V, and exhibits good heating stability under bent condition. This work offers a promising platform for the emerging flexible transparent electronics to adapt extreme environments, especially for those devices which require high-temperature processing.
