Abstract:In China, the phenomenon known as "Wan Yu Literature" has recently taken social media by storm, igniting intense discussions among people. This trend is centered around Lin Wan Yu, a character from the popular Chinese TV series, "Love Apartment". Following a scene in which Lin writes a letter to her boyfriend, Zhan Bo, expressing her evolved understanding of life, many female netizens have been emulating this act as a way of exploring self-discovery and feminism. The discussion surrounding "Wan Yu Literature" reflects a deeper ideological transformation in society, as women assert their right to define what "running away" means for themselves, demonstrating a desire for greater gender equality and individual freedom.

Abstract:Abstract“Living as a woman in silence”, Yu Luojin lamented in 1982, “is not as tough as telling the truth in public.” Yu Luojin published three autobiographical works before she finally sought political asylum during a trip to West Germany in 1986. At least 10,000 characters were removed from her first autobiographical novel when it was published in 1980, due to the “jarring” (ci er) personal voices, including her depiction of her wedding night and her different views on love, marriage, and sex. Her second autobiographical novel, which was based upon her love relationship with an associate chief editor of Guangming ribao, was banned shordy after it was published in Hua cheng in 1982. It was criticized as exposing private matters in public and advocating improper relationships. As a twice-divorced woman in the early 1980s, her fame was raised through public gossip as well. She was attacked as a nonserious (bu jiandian) woman in the most important newspaper and journal in Beijing and was negatively stamped as a writer on private affairs (yinsi zuojia).

Abstract:With the rising of feminism, the creative experience of Chinese female novelists has been attracting the attention of literary critics, who have focused much more on the ideological content but not on the narrative art. Actually, the female novels of the 20th century have undergone the process from unconsciousness to self-consciousness in terms of artistic level. By doing four case studies of Chenying, Luoshu, Luohong and Meiniang, female novelists during the Republic of China, the author tries to prove their mature esthetic consciousness and their respective achievements. Chenyin's meticulous and deep-going way in narration, Luoshu's detailed description of snobbery, the characteristic dialogue composed by Luohong and the viewpoint voiced by Meiniang are a demonstration of the rise of Chinese female novelists.

Abstract:There is a clear clue of the development of consciousnessin the contemporary novels from the late 1980s.The feminine consciousness of the six typical writers who are WangAnYi, TieNing; LinBai, ChenRan; WeiHui , Mian Mian , experiences the trendcy of continuity. WangAnYi, TieNing say good - bye to the love Utopia and sum up the return of female identity equality ; LinBai, ChenRan use the other way to resist the masculine at the home of spirit; WeiHui, MianMian, who are regarded as the additional category of postmodernism context, fall into the prey of masculine.

Abstract:From a low level. the feminist movement in China started in the late Qing dynasty in the form of abolishing the foot-wrapping and promoting education for women, and it had always been subordinate to the events of national importance dominated by males. All this, together with the absence of women and women's unique experiences, had thus determined the features of male predominance and national ideology in Chinese feminist discourse, thereby having led to ambivalence in feminist literary expression, though the feeling in writing was authentic. Therefore, analysis and clarification of feminist discourse and feminist narrative in the late Qing dynasty is the very start necessary for understanding the history of fem- inist expression in the 20th-century Chinese literature.

Abstract:Ling Li is neither an inheritor of traditional male chauvinism nor a proponent of western feminism, thus her deduction of history is characterized by not only the common features of female writing but also the grand manner and the in-depth philosophical rationality not found in universal historical novels of feminism. Coupled with her special interest in the living circumstance and destiny of females, Ling Li appears more objective and sober-minded in the narration of females in history, and she would not take initiative to impose her personal subjective consciousness on female characters in her novels. As regards writing approaches, unlike most writers of feminist history novels, Ling Li has initiated the narrative style of female realism by inheriting realism and incorporating some feminine elements.

Abstract:This paper explores how lay female believers are depicted in the Chinese monastic Pure Land Buddhist texts and how a particular late-imperial Chinese Buddhist biography collection betrayed the previously existing narrative of female laity. Moreover, I wish to show that there had existed a long-lasting and persistent non-binary narrative of lay women in Chinese Pure Land biographies admiring female agency, in which female Pure Land practitioners are depicted as equally accomplished to male ones. Such a narrative betrays the medieval monastic elitist discourse of seeing women as naturally corrupted. This narrative is best manifested in the late Ming monk master Yunqi Zhuhong's collection, who celebrated lay female practitioners' religious achievement as comparable to men. This tradition is discontinued in the Confucian scholar Peng Shaosheng's collection of lay female Buddhist biographies in the Qing dynasty, however, in which Peng depicts women as submissive and inferior to males. This transition-from using the stories of eminent lay female Buddhists to challenge Confucian teachings to positioning lay females under Confucian disciplines-exhibits Peng Shaosheng's own invention, rather than a transmission of the inherited formulaic narration of lay female believers, as he claimed.

Abstract:Feminist literary criticism is a method of criticism full of deconstructive spirit in contemporary western literary theory and practice.It is a critical theory about reading and writing.Under the influence of this theory there occurred in China in 1980s a large number of female writers who consciously or unconsciously borrowed and absorbed female consciousness and created a lot of works against the traditional phallocentrist.Wang Anyi is one of the most representative writers in this respect.Her works such as I Love Bill A Century on the Hillock and Brothers are very excellent texts of feminist criticism.The writer of this paper attempts to make a deconstructive analysis of I Love Bill and The Love of the Small Town to disclose female consciousness implied in Wang An-yi's feminist writing.

Abstract:The question of “why there have been no great women artists,” initiated by Linda Nochlin in 1971, elicits different responses from art domains in China. In addition, the notions of feminism or feminist art criticism, translated from English and practiced by Chinese artists, create distinct connotations reflective of different gender conditions. Zhu and Xiao, in their Feminisms with Chinese Characteristics, claim that “Chinese feminisms must remain plural because those concepts represent the changing practical consciousness in response to historical and social developments” (Zhu and Xiao, 2021: 1). Dai Jinhua, a Chinese scholar, views feminism as “the search for different worlds and alternative possibilities other than global capitalism” (Dai, 2002: 29). A historical overview of woman and art in China demonstrates a plurality of female and feminism, and this article shows how alternative responses to Nochlin’s question become possible if one views sexual difference and gender politics as a non-binary system in specific historical contexts.

Abstract:Cui Xiuwen (b. 1970) and Yu Hong (b. 1966) are contemporary Chinese artists whose images of women reflect a complicated gendered perspective. This article focuses on Cui’s Ladies’ Room (2000) and Yu’s Female Writer (2004, from the series She). Both can be construed as feminist reinterpretations of Chinese works of the imperial era that represented idealized female figures from a male perspective. Ladies’ Room, a video that shows behind-the-scenes images of sex workers in a nightclub washroom, brings to mind earlier paintings that depict women in feminine space. Ladies’ Room, however, incorporates multiple female gazes: not only that of the artist but also those of the subjects, who look at each other and at their own mirror reflections. Female Writer, a diptych consisting of a photograph and painting of the writer Zhao Bo, recalls paintings from the “beautiful women” genre. Though both photograph and painting reflect Yu Hong’s point of view, Zhao Bo was permitted to select her photograph, and thus the work engages with both author’s and subject’s gaze. Ladies’ Room and Female Writer both reclaim female subjectivity as they present images of contemporary Chinese women while also grappling with problems of authenticity, the public/private dichotomy, identity, and self-expression.

Abstract:Female issues are hotly debated no matter what time of the year it is, Jiang Heji's novel The Others published in 2023 is a novel about women's issues, and his women's images are three-dimensional and vivid, and the novel itself is very innovative, Jiang Heji takes the more sensitive issues of sexual assault and domestic violence as a subject matter of writing, and builds up the real lives of three women: Kim Zhenya, Yang Xiuzhen, and He Youli through the subjective perspectives of different characters. This paper tries to base on the female images in Jiang Heji's The Others, to systematically explore the female images in Jiang Heji's The Others by using the methods of interpretation and close reading of the text, to analyse the reasons for the lack of female consciousness of the female images in the novels, and to discuss the consequences of the lack of female consciousness of female images in the novels, so as to find ways to solve the problem of the lack of female consciousness.
