Abstract:The present study aims to clarify the possible involvement of parvovirus B19 (B19V) infection in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) pathogenesis by investigating the presence of B19V infection markers (genomic sequences and virus-specific antibodies) in association with the level of cytokines and RA clinical activity and aggressiveness. A total of 118 RA patients and 49 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. Nested PCR was used to detect B19V sequences in whole blood and cell-free plasma DNA, ELISA to detect virus-specific antibodies and cytokine levels in plasma and recomLine dot blot assay for antibodies to separate B19V antigens. The detection frequency of B19V DNA was higher in patients with RA (25.4 %) in comparison with healthy persons (18.4 %). B19V DNA in cell-free plasma (B19+p) was detected significantly often in RA patients in comparison with healthy controls (13.6 vs 2 %; P=0.0002). RA B19+p patients had higher disease activity and aggressiveness, decreased haemoglobin and increased erythrocyte sedimentation rates. IL-6 plasma levels were significantly higher in RA patients than in controls. Within the RA patients' group the IL-6 level was significantly increased in B19+p patients with disease activity scores of DAS28>5.2, high C-reactive protein and low haemoglobin. Contrary to the healthy controls, the majority of RA B19+p patients did not have antibodies to VP-1S (VP1u) and VP-N (N-terminal half of structural proteins VP1 and VP2), which correspond to the epitopes of neutralizing antibodies. These results indicate that B19V infection at least in some patients is involved in RA pathogenesis.

Abstract:Objectives: Parvovirus B19 most frequently causes epidemics of erythema infectiosum in children but also affects adults often leading to rheumatologic manifestations. While the serum profile allows the diagnosis, manifestations may mimic autoimmune conditions. The aim was to evaluate the proportion of patients with acute Parvovirus B19 infection fulfilling classification criteria for rheumatic diseases (RA and SLE). Methods: We evaluated the clinical and serological features of 54 patients diagnosed with acute Parvovirus B19 infection seeking rheumatological attention between March and June 2024. Results: The majority of patients were females (78%), with a mean (s.d.) age of 45 (13) years and 54% could not recall any known exposure. Fifty-one/54 (94%) had arthralgia, 27 (50%) arthritis (oligoarthritis in 67% of them), 24 (44%) fever, 19 (35%) skin rash and 7 (13%) purpura. Symptoms resolution generally occurred within 6 weeks. Complement levels were low in 14/33 (42%) tested patients, while the presence of serum ANA, anti-dsDNA, anti-phospholipids and rheumatoid factor was detected in 21/38 (55%), 10/26 (38%), 6/12 (50%) and 5/37 (13%) patients, respectively. Classification criteria for SLE were fulfilled in 93% of ANA-positive patients and RA criteria in 38% of patients with arthritis. Conclusions: Parvovirus B19 infection manifestations may vary and nearly all patients with positive serum ANA fulfil the classification criteria for SLE. The risk of misclassification in patients with viral infection should not be overlooked.

Abstract:Parvovirus B19 (PVB19) is the causative agent of erythema infectiosum and sometimes the infection is correlated with severe haematological complications, or in pregnancy to fetalis hydrops. Moreover some authors suggest an infection involvement in some autoimmune diseases. To this purpose we evaluated seroprevalence for PVB19 in following the autoimmune or dysreactive pathologies: systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), cryoglobulinemia, idiopathic systemic--ANCA associated vasculitis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In the case of LES, 31/42 patients were positive for PVB19 versus 21/42 of blood donors, as controls subjects (73.8% vs. 50%; significant difference for p < 0.05), moreover a significant difference for p < 0.001 was detected comparing mean titre values of IgGs against PVB19 of two groups (UI 1.94 +/- 0.90 vs. 1.24 +/- 0.80). In contrast no significant differences were found in the case of percent seropositivity of cryoglobulinemic subjects (37/57 = 64.9%, the majority of whom were HCV+) in comparison with the control group (50%). However mean units index (UI) was 1.63 +/- 0.81; p = 0.019 versus the control group. Similar result, with regard to the percentage of seropositivity, was found for vasculitis (9/17 = 52.9%). The data reported here can confirm a possible correlation between PVB19 prior infection and LES and also suggest possible implications in the case of cryoglobulinemia. In fact, most of our patients were affected by a nephropathic or systemic form of HCV+ cryoglobulinemia and the presence of other infective cofactors could be suggestive in the evolution of this clinical situation.

Abstract:Introduction: Parvovirus B19 virus-mediated viral inflammation and immune-complex deposition generate mainly short-term manifestations in the affected individuals. The objective of this study was to determine Parvovirus B19 infection in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Methodology: The study employed 50 patients diagnosed with RA and 30 healthy individuals. Blood samples were collected from both groups. The blood samples were screened for Parvovirus B19 infection using polymerase chain reaction to detect B19 DNA and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to detect anti- B19 IgM and IgG. Results: 17 (34%) of 50 patients tested positive for parvovirus B19 DNA. In contrast, the mortality rate in the control group was significantly lower (6.7%; p = 0.005). Anti- B19 IgG antibody levels differed significantly with patients and control ( p = 0.007), whereas anti- B19 IgM Ab levels did not ( p = 0.6). There was a significant correlation between viremia B19 and all measured parameters. Parvovirus -affected patients had significantly higher CRP and ESR, elevated DAS28 scores, and more joint pain compared to parvovirus (-) patients. Conclusion: Anti-CCP and RF values were significantly high in parvovirus (+) patients. Joint erosion was also prevalent in patients who tested positive for parvovirus. The findings of this study suggest that infection with parvovirus in patients with RA, and a possible role of this viral infection in the pathogenesis of RA may contribute to the pathogenesis of RA.

Abstract:Background: In preclinical studies, the efficacy of the combination of antiangiogenic agents with chemotherapy seems to be dependent on the specific cytotoxic agent. We conducted a systematic review of the efficacy of bevacizumab in combination with taxane or non-taxane containing regimens for untreated, nonsquamous non–small-cell lung cancer patients. Methods: An extensive search of published clinical trials was conducted from electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane) and meeting proceedings using relevant search criteria. Phase 2 and randomized trials reporting on the efficacy of bevacizumab combined with taxane or non-taxane regimens were selected. A systematic analysis of extracted data was performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (Version 2.2) software. Clinical outcome in patients treated with taxane versus non-taxane regimen was compared using point estimates for weighted values of median overall survival, progression-free survival, and response rate. Results: Twenty-nine studies reported between 2005 and 2015 were eligible. A total of 5890 patients (2767 and 3123 in the taxane and non-taxane groups, respectively) were included. The taxane and non-taxane groups were comparable in patient characteristics: median age, 62.8 versus 61.2 years; males, 57% versus 58%; adenocarcinomas, 83% versus 83%; stage IV, 87% versus 82%; performance status 0/1- 45/55% versus 41/59%, respectively. The weighted median overall survival was 14.4 versus 13.7 months (p = 0.5); progression-free survival was 6.93 versus 6.99 months (p = 0.61); response rate was 41% versus 39% (p = 0.65) for taxane and non-taxane groups. Conclusions: The outcomes between taxane and non-taxane regimens when given in combination with bevacizumab for patients with nonsquamous non–small-cell lung cancer are comparable.

Abstract:Background Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may form clusters with clinical manifestations and autoantibodies. Objective The objective of this report is to study whether SLE patients with positive rheumatoid factor (RF) have a special clinical and/or serological profile. Methods A retrospective study of 467 SLE patients seen at a single rheumatology unit was conducted. Epidemiological data (age, gender, age at disease onset, ethnic background and tobacco use), clinical data (malar rash, photosensitivity, oral ulcers, discoid lesions, serositis, glomerulonephritis, convulsions, psychosis, hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, lymphocytopenia, arthritis and hypothyroidism) and serological profile (anti-dsDNA, anti-Ro/SS-A, anti-La/SS-B, anti-RNP, anti-Sm, IgG aCL, IgM aCL, lupus anticoagulant, direct Coombs and RF) were collected. Patients with positive and negative RF were compared. Results RF was found in 24.9% of the sample. In univariate analysis, RF was positively associated with butterfly rash ( p = 0.04), anti-Ro ( p = 0.03), anti-Sm antibodies ( p = 0.01) and hypothyroidism ( p = 0.01) and negatively associated with glomerulonephritis ( p = 0.003). Logistic regression showed that only glomerulonephritis ( p = 0.03; OR = 0.45; 95% CI = 0.21-0.93) and anti-Ro ( p = 0.009; OR = 2.3; 95% CI = 1.24-4.57) were independent associations. Conclusion In our sample RF was associated with protection from glomerulonephritis and with higher prevalence of anti-Ro antibodies.

Abstract:We sought to evaluate a possible link between parvovirus B19 infection and the clinical and laboratory expression of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). SLE patients were examined to evaluate their clinical status and disease activity. A complete Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) score was obtained for each patient. In addition, we determined the level of systemic involvement throughout the course of the disease. Blood levels of IgM and IgG antibodies to parvovirus B19, levels of anti-dsDNA, C3, and C4 were measured. A PCR real-time assay was used to determine the presence of parvovirus B19 genetic material. The viral genome was found in sera of 2 of 51(3.9%) patients with SLE. There was no correlation between viral serology and the clinical and serological parameters of the disease. More SLE patients with secondary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) had IgG and IgM antibodies to the virus (p < 0.029 and p < 0.018, respectively). These patients also had a higher titer of IgG antibodies to parvovirus B19 compared to SLE patients without APS. In this group of SLE patients, no association was found between parvovirus infection and the presence or activity of SLE. The results of the study suggest an association between parvovirus infection and antibody production directed against phospholipids.

Abstract:Abstract Background Parvovirus B19 infection has been associated with various clinical entities including musculoskeletal manifestations and the development of different autoimmune diseases. The aim of our study is to examine the musculoskeletal manifestations associated with acute parvovirus B19 infection and the possible development of chronic autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Patients and Methods Retrospective cohort study that included adult hospitalized patients diagnosed with an acute parvovirus B19 infection between 1 January 2021 and 1 February 2024. Subjects were followed‐up for 6–12 months after hospitalization aiming to identify patients who developed chronic autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Results The study included 23 patients diagnosed with acute parvovirus B19 infection. Patients were predominantly females (16, 69.6%) with mean age at diagnosis of 39.3 ± 13.11 years. Most patients were Jewish (15, 65.2%). The two most common acute symptoms were fever (82.6%) and myalgia (56.5%). Polyarthritis was present only in three patients (13%) and all of them had wrists involvement. Anti‐nuclear antibodies and rheumatoid factor were the most common autoantibodies present with equal prevalence each (13%). Five patients were treated with prednisone during the acute phase (21%), two (8.7%) of them needed drug escalation and were subsequently treated with hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate. One patient developed systemic lupus erythematosus during the first 6 months of follow‐up. Conclusion Musculoskeletal manifestations developing during acute parvovirus B19 are usually self‐limited with only a small minority of patients developing chronic autoimmune diseases. It is crucial to differentiate self‐limited manifestations related to acute parvovirus B19 from idiopathic autoimmune diseases aiming to avoid unnecessary immunosuppressive therapy.

Abstract:Parvovirus B19 (B19V) is a human pathogen belonging to the Parvoviridae family. It is widely diffused in the population and responsible for a wide range of diseases, diverse in pathogenetic mechanisms, clinical course, and severity. B19V infects and replicates in erythroid progenitor cells (EPCs) in the bone marrow leading to their apoptosis. Moreover, it can also infect, in an abortive manner, a wide set of different cell types, normally non-permissive, and modify their normal physiology. Differences in the characteristics of virus-cell interaction may translate into different pathogenetic mechanisms and clinical outcomes. Joint involvement is a typical manifestation of B19V infection in adults. Moreover, several reports suggest, that B19V could be involved in the pathogenesis of some autoimmune rheumatologic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), systemic sclerosis (SSc), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), or vasculitis. This review provides basic information on the B19 virus, highlights characteristics of viral infection in permissive and non-permissive systems, and focuses on recent findings concerning the pathogenic role of B19V in rheumatologic diseases.
Epidemiology of the Epstein-Barr Virus in Autoimmune Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases in Northern Brazil

Abstract:The present study aimed to describe the seroprevalence infection, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genotypes, relate the infection's profile with the epidemiological and corticotherapy data of patients with Autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRD). A cross-sectional study was carried out with 139 individuals, 92 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 27 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 20 with other autoimmune diseases, who were undergoing clinical follow-up in Brazil. Serological tests for the detection of EBV anti-VCA IgM and IgG antibodies, as well as the amplification of a segment of the EBV EBNA-3c gene by conventional PCR were performed to identify the infection and the viral subtype. The Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 3 (EBNA3C) gene participates of maintenance of viral latency and infected B-lymphocytes immortalization by unclear signaling cascades. The association of active/latent EBV infection with EBV infection profile was assessed by Fisher's exact test and multiple logistic regression. The seroprevalence of EBV anti-VCA IgG was 100%, while that of anti-VCA IgM was 1.43% (2/139). Active-phase infection was confirmed by the presence of EBV DNA in 40.29% of the population evaluated (56/139), with 45.65% (42/92) in SLE, 25.92% (7/27) in the RA and in 35% (7/20) in other autoimmune diseases. It was observed that individuals with SLE had a higher prevalence of active/lytic EBV infection and that oral corticosteroid therapy at a dose lower than 20 mg/day increased the risk of EBV activity by up to 11 times. Only the presence of EBV-1 was identified. Thus, EBV lytic infection was higher in individuals with SLE when compared to other autoimmune diseases with rheumatologic involvement and the lytic activity of the virus precedes corticosteroid-induced immunosuppression.

Abstract:We investigated the electrical transport properties in Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5 (CFAS)/GaAs junctions. From current density-voltage characteristics, the formation of a Schottky tunnel barrier in the CFAS/GaAs interface was indicated. Moreover, junction resistance of 2×10-9 Ω·m2 which is adequate for high magnetoresistance ratio attributable to high spin injection efficiency was obtained. Comparing the bias dependencies of conductance with samples, which CFAS ordering is lower, indicated that L21 ordered CFAS contributes to electrical transport. Finally, the spin injection signal was observed with 3-terminal Hanle measurement, and spin relaxation time was estimated to be 380 ps at 5 K.
Relationship between clinical manifestations and serological profile in patients affected by Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Abstract:Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by a variety of both signs and symptoms; it mainly affects women of childbearing age, with an estimated prevalence of 24/100,000 people in Europe and North America. SLE is often described as an antibodies-driven disease as its clinical manifestations are usually associated with the presence or the absence of specific antibodies. Objectives: To evaluate clinical manifestations in patients with SLE and to assess the relationship with the presence of specific antibodies by using real-world data. Methods: A retrospective study was performed; the 2019 EULAR/ACR Classification Criteria for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus were used to classify patients with SLE. Data concerning serological profiles (which included Antinuclear antibodies - ANA, anti dsDNA, anti-Ro/SS-A, anti-La/SS-B, anti-Smith) were gathered along with medical records of clinical manifestations. Complement levels were also tested for possible clinical correlations. χ² or Fisher's exact tests were utilized to establish associations between autoantibodies and symptoms. The odds ratios (OR) and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were computed. No correction was made for multiple testing; only a p-value 0.01 ≤ was considered significant. Results: One-hundred and twenty-seven patients (n=127, mean age 53.43 ± 14.02) were enrolled in this study. Anti-dsDNA antibodies were found to be statistically significant for both malar rash and proteinuria; anti-Ro/SSA antibodies showed an association with photosensitivity and pericarditis; furthermore, a strong association was found between anti-Ro antibodies and proteinuria, but only if anti-dsDNA antibodies were present as well. Patients who tested positive for anti-La/SSB antibodies correlated with a threefold increase in the risk of developing pericarditis. Lastly, anti-Smith appeared to be associated with NPSLE as well as an increased risk for both autoimmune hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia. Conclusions: In our study, many associations confirmed those found in previous studies; however, new relationships between antibodies and clinical manifestations were found thus indicating the need for additional evaluations to assess these correlations further.
Clinical Significance of Serum C-C Chemokine Ligand 19 Levels in Patients with Rheu-Matoid Arthritis

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the serum level of C-C chemokine ligand 19 (CCL19)and its clinical significance in rheumatoid arthritis.Methods:The serum CCL19 levels in both rheumatoid ar-thritis (RA)patients and health controls were detected by ELISA.The proportion of peripheral blood B cells and memory B cell subsets were also detected in some patients.Then the clinical and laboratory data of the patients were collected.The CCL19 levels in patients with different clinical features were analyzed. And the correlation between the clinical data,laboratory parameters,B cell subsets proportion and serum CCL19 levels were also analyzed.Independent samples t test,paired t test,Pearson and Spearman corre-lation were used for statistical analysis.Results:The levels of CCL19 was higher in the RA patients than the health controls (P <0.05).The serum CCL19 levels were decreased in the RA patients who accep-ted disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs)treatment for 6 months (P <0.001 ).Serum CCL19 levels were correlated with the titers of both rheumatoid factor (RF)and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP)antibody (r =0.42,P =0.002;r =0.33,P =0.013),but not with erythrocyte sedi-mentation rate (ESR),C-reactive protein (CRP)and disease activity score in 28 joints (DAS28)(P >0.05).The levels of CCL19 were higher in the serum positive (RF and anti-CCP antibody)patients,but there were no differences between low and high disease activity RA,as well as early and non-early RA. There was no correlation between the serum CCL19 levels and the proportion of B cells as well as memory B subsets.All the proportion of peripheral blood CD27 + memory B cell subsets in RA was lower than the healthy controls,including CD27 +IgD +,CD27 +IgD - and CD27 + B cells.Conclusion:The increased serum CCL19 levels in RA patients are associated with the activity of B cells,so CCL19 might predict whether the RA type is a B cell mediated RA,and specify the treatment directions for the rheumatologist.

Abstract:Dilated cardiomyopathies (DCM) are a major cause of mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Immune responses induced by human parvovirus B19 (B19) are considered an important pathogenic mechanism in myocarditis or DCM. However, little is known about Th17-related cytokines in SLE patients with DCM about the linkage with B19 infection. IgM and IgG against B19 viral protein, and serum levels of Th17-related cytokines were determined using ELISA in eight SLE patients with DCM and six patients with valvular heart disease (VHD). Humoral responses of anti-B19-VP1u and anti-B19-NS1 antibody were assessed using Western blot and B19 DNA was detected by nested Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Levels of interleukin (IL)-17, IL-6, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were significantly higher in SLE patients with DCM (mean ± SEM, 390.99±125.48 pg/ml, 370.24±114.09 pg/ml, 36.01±16.90 pg/ml, and 183.84±82.94 pg/ml, respectively) compared to healthy controls (51.32±3.04 pg/ml, p<0.001; 36.88±6.64 pg/ml, p<0.001; 5.39±0.62 pg/ml, p<0.005; and 82.13±2.42 pg/ml, p<0.005, respectively). Levels of IL-17 and IL-6 were higher in SLE patients with DCM versus those with VHD (both p<0.01). Five (62.5%) of DCM patients had detectable anti-B19-NS1 IgG and four (50.0%) of them had anti-B19-VP1u IgG, whereas only one (16.7%) of VHD patients had detectable anti-B19-NS1 IgG and anti-B19-VP1u IgG. Serum levels of IL-17, IL-6 and IL-1β were markedly higher in SLE patients with anti-B19-VP1u IgG and anti-B19-NS1 IgG compared to those without anti-B19-VP1u IgG or anti-B19-NS1 IgG, respectively. These suggest a potential association of B19 with DCM and Th17-related cytokines implicated in the pathogenesis of DCM in SLE patients.
[Clinical and Laboratory Characteristics of Rheumatoid Arthritis with Positive Antinuclear Antibody].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To analyse the clinical and laboratory characteristics of antinuclear antibody (ANA) positive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.METHODS:The clinical and laboratory data of 428 RA cases from Department of of Rheumatology and Immunology Peking University Third Hospital from Jan 2013 to Dec 2018 were collected and used to analyse characters between ANA positive group and ANA negative group. T test was used for the quantitative data in accordance with normal distribution. Wilcoxon rank sum test was used for the quantitative data of non normal distribution. The qualitative data were analyzed by chi square test. But while 1≤theoretical frequency < 5, chi square test of corrected four grid table was used. And Fisher exact probability method was used when theoretical frequency < 1.RESULTS:The number of ANA positive group was 231 (54%). The female rate was obviously higher in ANA positive group (82.7% vs. 63.5%, χ2=20.355, P < 0.01). The rate of metatarsophalangeal joints (MTPJs) involvement was lower in ANA positive group (22.1%) than in ANA negative group (33.0) (χ2=6.414, P < 0.05). The incidence of secondary Sjögren's syndrome (sSS) was much higher in ANA positive group(19.5% vs. 4.1%, χ2=23.300, P < 0.01). The positivity of rheumatoid factor (RF), as well as the positivity of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide(CCP) antibody was much higher in ANA positive group (77.1% vs. 53.8%, χ2=25.743, P < 0.01, 74.9% vs. 59.4%, χ2=11.694, P < 0.01, respectively). The levels of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulin M (IgM) of ANA positive group were higher [(15.1±5.1) g/L vs. (13.8±5.3) g/L, t=2.359, P < 0.05, 1.25 (0.92) g/L vs. 1.05 (0.65) g/L, Z=-3.449, P < 0.01, respectively]. But the levels of hemoglobin (Hb) and platelet (PLT) was lower in ANA positive group[(109.64±17.98) vs. (114.47±18.48) g/L, t=-2.734, P < 0.01; (266.4×109±104.6×109) vs. (295.9×109±100.1×109) /L, t=-2.970, P < 0.01, respectively].CONCLUSION:The incidence of sSS was obviously higher in ANA positive group than in ANA negative group. Serum IgG of ANA positive group was higher, but Hb and PLT were lower.

Abstract:Parvovirus B19 infection has been associated with a variety of rheumatic manifestations/diseases, mainly rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). B19 infection may simulate both clinical and laboratory features of SLE, presenting either as a potential first time diagnosis of SLE or as an exacerbation of previously established disease. The similarities in both clinical and serological features of parvovirus infection and SLE at presentation may hinder the differential diagnosis between these two conditions. Hence, parvovirus B19 infection mimicking SLE usually fulfils <4 ACR criteria for SLE, rarely includes cardiac or renal involvement or presents with haemolytic anaemia, and is usually associated with short-lived, low titers of autoantibodies. Rarely, cases of multisystemic involvement solely attributed to a recent parvovirus B19 infection have been reported, rendering early accurate diagnosis of particular importance and justifying the screening for evidence of parvovirus B19 involvement in newly diagnosed cases of SLE, especially the ones with abrupt onset of symptoms along with cases of SLE flares. This review describes basic features of parvovirus B19 structure and pathogenicity and expands on the parvo-associated auto-immune manifestations particularly in relation to SLE-mimicking or SLE-triggering reported cases. The proposed mechanisms for viral-induced pathologic autoimmunity are discussed with emphasis on emerging data regarding the aberrant expression and localization of autoantigens and their potential implication in alternatively activated immunological cascades.

Abstract:An ensemble of simulations covering the present day observational period using forced sea surface temperatures and prescribed sea-ice extent is configured with a spectral transform dynamical core (T85) within the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM), version 4, and is evaluated relative to observed and model derived datasets. The spectral option is well-known and its relative computational efficiency for smaller computing platforms allows it to be extended to perform high-resolution climate length simulations.
Antilymphocyte Antibodies in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Association with Disease Activity and Lymphopenia.

Abstract:PURPOSE:We analyzed the prevalence, clinical correlation, and the functional significance of ALA in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).METHODS:ALA IgG was detected by indirect immunofluorescence in the serum of 130 SLE patients, 75 patients with various rheumatic diseases, and 45 healthy controls (HC).RESULTS:The sensitivity and specificity of ALA IgG in SLE were 42.3% and 96.7%, respectively. ALA was observed in 55.6% (50/90) of patients with lymphopenia, which was significantly higher than in patients with normal lymphocytes (5/40, 12.5%; P<0.001). Patients with active SLE showed higher ALA positivity (60.9%) than those with inactive disease (24.2%; χ2=17.925; P<0.001). ALA correlated significantly with hypocomplementemia, anti-dsDNA antibodies, and higher SLEDAI scores. The incidences of ALA in SLE patients who were seronegative for anti-dsDNA, anti-Sm, or both antibodies were 32.9% (26/79), 41.0% (43/105), and 32.4% (22/68), respectively. The ALA-positive group also had higher incidences of neuropsychiatric SLE (NPSLE) and lupus nephritis (LN). In multivariate analyses, ALA was independently associated with lymphopenia, higher SLEDAI scores, and increased risk for LN. ALA titers significantly decreased as clinical disease was ameliorated following treatment.CONCLUSIONS:ALA occurred more frequently in patients with active SLE and was independently associated with lymphopenia, disease activity, and LN.
Clinical and laboratory pattern of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus seropositive for rheumatoid factor

Abstract:Introduction The aim of the study was to investigate the associations between the presence and level of rheumatoid factor (RF) in the blood serum and the clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Material and methods This retrospective tricentric cross-sectional study analyzed a Ukrainian contingent of SLE patients. Medical records of 495 patients were evaluated. Rheumatoid factor serum concentration was tested in 206 of them (41.6%) using turbidimetry technique. Clinical manifestations, routine laboratory parameters, specific immunological tests, disease activity (SLEDAI-2K), and damage indices (SLICC/ACR DI) were evaluated. Results Our study revealed that RF was elevated in 27.7% of patients. The RF-positive patients experienced a longer delay in SLE diagnosis (2.0 vs. 0.5 years, p = 0.046), less frequent kidney involvement (42.1% vs. 59.4%, p = 0.045) and fever (42.1% vs. 59.2%, p = 0.046), and more frequent lymphadenopathy (59.6% vs. 42.3%, p = 0.039) compared to RF-negative patients. Patients with RF positivity had higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and antinuclear antibody (ANA) titer, and were more frequently positive for antibodies to Ro/SSA and La/SSB. Rheumatoid factor concentration directly correlated with CRP ( r = 0.318; p < 0.01) and ESR ( r = 0.228; p = 0.04) levels. However, no associations were found between RF levels and SLEDAI-2K, joint involvement frequency, SLICC/ACR DI or drug therapy content. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that RF positivity was independently associated with lymphadenopathy, presence of anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB antibodies, and negatively associated with kidney involvement. Conclusions In RF-seropositive SLE patients (approximately 28%), the diagnosis is established later compared to RF-seronegative ones; kidney involvement and fever are less common, while lymphadenopathy develops more frequently. Rheumatoid factor seropositivity is associated with higher levels of ESR, CRP, ANA, and the presence of antibodies to Ro/SSA and La/SSB. According to the results of univariate logistic regression analysis, an independent association with RF positivity was confirmed only for kidney involvement, lymphadenopathy, and antibodies to Ro/SSA and La/SSB.
