Abstract:We initiate the study of a quantitative measure for the failure of a binary operation to be commutative and associative. We call this measure the associative-commutative spectrum as it extends the associative spectrum (also known as the subassociativity type), which measures the nonassociativity of a binary operation. In fact, the associative-commutative spectrum (resp. associative spectrum) is the cardinality of the operad with (resp. without) permutations obtained naturally from a groupoid (a set with a binary operation). In this paper we provide some general results on the associative-commutative spectrum, precisely determine this measure for certain binary operations, and propose some problems for future study.

Abstract:The associative spectrum of a groupoid (i.e., a set with a binary operation) measures its nonassociativity while the associative-commutative spectrum measures both nonassociativity and noncommutativity of the groupoid. The two spectra are also the coefficients of the Hilbert series of certain operads. We establish upper bounds for the two spectra of various varieties of groupoids defined by different sets of identities and provide examples (often groupoids with three elements) for which the upper bounds are achieved. Our results have connections to many interesting combinatorial objects and integer sequences and naturally lead to some questions for future studies.

One of them uses the associative spectrum, the other one uses the index of nonassociativity to measure how far an operation is from being associative.

Abstract:In this article we are introducing combinatorial spectra of graphs, this is a generalization of $H$-Hamiltonian spectra. The main motivation was to made from $H$-Hamiltonian spectra an operation and develop some algebra in this field. An improved version of this operation form a commutative monoid. The most important thing is that most of the basic concepts of graph theory, such as maximum pairing, vertex and edge connectivity and coloring, Ramsey numbers, isomorphisms and regularity, can be expressed in the language of this operation.

Abstract:We look at various forms of spectrum and associated pseudospectrum that can be defined for noncommuting $d$-tuples of Hermitian elements of a $C^*$-algebra. The emphasis is on theoretical calculations of examples, in particular for noncommuting pairs and triple of operators on infinite dimensional Hilbert space. In particular, we look at the universal pair of projections in a $C^*$-algebra, the usual position and momentum operators, and triples of tridiagonal operators.

Algebras and varieties where Sasaki operations form an adjoint pair

Abstract:The so-called Sasaki projection was introduced by U. Sasaki on the lattice L(H) of closed linear subspaces of a Hilbert space H as a projection of L(H) onto a certain sublattice of L(H). Since L(H) is an orthomodular lattice, the Sasaki projection and its dual can serve as the logical connectives conjunction and implication within the logic of quantum mechanics. It was shown by the authors in a previous paper that these operations form a so-called adjoint pair. The natural question arises if this result can be extended also to lattices with a unary operation which need not be orthomodular or to other algebras with two binary and one unary operation. To show that this is possible is the aim of the present paper. We determine a variety of lattices with a unary operation where the Sasaki operations form an adjoint pair and we continue with so-called $\lambda$-lattices and certain classes of semirings. We show that the Sasaki operations have a deeper sense than originally assumed by their author and can be applied also outside the lattices of closed linear subspaces of a Hilbert space.

Abstract:Denote by B(H) the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Hilbert space H. Let A∈B(H), and denote by σ(A) the spectrum of A. For ε>0, define the ε-pseudospectrum σε(A) of A asσε(A)={z∈σ(A+E):E∈B(H),‖E‖<ε}. In this paper, the pseudospectra of several special classes of operators are characterized. As an application, complete descriptions are given of the maps of B(H) leaving invariant the pseudospectra of A•B for different kinds of binary operations • on operators such as the difference A−B, the operator product AB, and the Jordan product AB+BA.
On the $A$-spectrum for $A$-bounded operator on von-Neumann algebras

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{M}$ be a von Neumann algebra and let $A$ be a nonzero positive element of $\mathfrak{M}$. By $\sigma_A(T) $ and $r_A(T)$ we denote the $A$-spectrum and the $A$-spectral radius of $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, respectively. In this paper, we show that $\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)\subseteq \sigma_A(T)$. Sufficient conditions for the equality $\sigma_A(T)=\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)$ to be true are presented. Also, we show that $\sigma_A(T)$ is finite for any $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ if and only if $A$ is in the socle of $\mathfrak{M}$. Next , we consider the relationship between elements $S$ and $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ that satisfy one of the following two conditions: (1) $\sigma_A(SX)=\sigma_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, (2) $r_A(SX)= r_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$. Finally, a Gleason-Kahane-Żelazko's theorem for the $A$-spectrum is derived.% Finally, we introduce and study the notion of the $A$-approximate point spectrum for element of $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$.

On spectra and Brown's spectral measures of elements in free products of matrix algebras

Abstract:We compute spectra and Brown measures of some non self-adjoint operators in $(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)*(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)$, the reduced free product von Neumann algebra of $M_2(\cc)$ with $M_2(\cc)$. Examples include $AB$ and $A+B$, where A and B are matrices in $(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)*1$ and $1*(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)$, respectively. We prove that AB is an R-diagonal operator (in the sense of Nica and Speicher \cite{N-S1}) if and only if Tr(A)=Tr(B)=0. We show that if X=AB or X=A+B and A,B are not scalar matrices, then the Brown measure of X is not concentrated on a single point. By a theorem of Haagerup and Schultz \cite{H-S1}, we obtain that if X=AB or X=A+B and $X\neq \lambda 1$, then X has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace affiliated with $(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)*(M_2(\cc), {1/2}Tr)$.

Spectrum in alternative topological algebras and a new look at old theorems

Abstract:In this paper, we consider real and complex algebras as well as algebras over general fields. In Section 2, we revisit and prove several results on (quadratic) algebras over general fields. In Section 3, we show how to develop the spectral theory in the context of complex (resp. real) one-sided alternative topological algebras. As an application of the existence of spectrum, we prove the existence of nontrivial hyperinvariant linear manifolds for nonscalar (resp. nonquadratic) continuous linear operators acting on complex (resp. real) Fréchet spaces. Along the way, spectral theory is used to prove several topological counterparts of the well-known theorems of Frobenius, Hurwitz, Gelfand-Mazur, and Zorn. This is done, for example, in the context of left (resp. right) alternative topological algebras whose duals separate their elements. In Section 4, we consider real and complex algebras in various topological settings and reconsider and prove several results. For instance, it is shown that given a $ 1 < k \in \mathbb{N}$, on any locally complex algebra, there exists a unique nonzero vector space norm, say, $\|.\|$, satisfying the identity $\|a^k\| = \|a\|^k$ on the algebra. In Section 5, among other things, we revisit and slightly strengthen the celebrated theorems of Frobenius, Zorn, Gelfand-Mazur, and Hurwitz, and also give slight extensions of their topological counterparts, e.g., theorems of Albert, Kaplansky, and Urbanik-Wright to name a few, in several settings.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain the generalized distance spectra and the distance spectra of the graphs constructed by 2736 and 1588 binary graph operations of the -join type, respectively when the constituting graphs satisfy some conditions. Using these results, we deduce some existing results on the distance spectra of graphs constructed by some graph operations in the literature. As applications, we construct infinite pairs of generalized distance cospectral graphs.

Abstract:We characterise the bracketing identities satisfied by linear quasigroups with the help of certain equivalence relations on binary trees that are based on the left and right depths of the leaves modulo some integers. The numbers of equivalence classes of $n$-leaf binary trees are variants of the Catalan numbers, and they form the associative spectrum (a kind of measure of non-associativity) of a quasigroup.

Abstract:We study two measures of associativity for graph algebras of finite undirected graphs: the index of nonassociativity and (a variant of) the semigroup distance. We determine "almost associative" and "antiassociative" graphs with respect to both measures. It turns out that the antiassociative graphs are exactly the balanced complete bipartite graphs, no matter which of the two measures we consider. In the class of connected graphs the two notions of almost associativity are also equivalent.

Abstract:In order to extend the notion of similarity to a more general concept, we introduce a new notion called the pseudo-similarity. We consider various characterizations and representations of pseudo-similar operators. Knowing that the similarity preserves the spectrum, we establish in the case of pseudo-similarity a more general result, giving certain relationships between the spectrum of pseudo-similar operators. Furthermore, we delve into the pseudo-similarity to some particular operators. Particularly, we focus on some upper triangular operator matrices and we determine their spectrum as an application of our findings. Finally, further applications to the spectrum of pseudo-similar operators are established.

Abstract:This paper aims to provide a thorough characterization of the family of all Cantor-Bendixson derivatives of the spectrum, Browder spectrum, and the Drazin spectrum of bounded linear operators using projections and invariant subspaces. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that if two commuting operators, R and T , satisfy the conditions that R is Riesz and T is a direct sum of an invertible operator and an operator with an at most countable spectrum, then can also be represented as a direct sum of an invertible operator and an operator with an at most countable spectrum.

Commutativity and orthogonality of similarity orbits in Banach algebras

Abstract:For a semisimple unital Banach algebra $A$ over $\mathbb{C}$, and elements $a,b\in A,$ we show that the similarity orbits, $\mathrm{orb}(a)$ and $\mathrm{orb}(b)$, over the principal component of the invertible group of $A$ commute precisely when there is at least one nonzero complex number not belonging to the spectrum of any product $a^\prime b^\prime$ -- where $(a^\prime,b^\prime)\in\mathrm{orb}(a)\times\mathrm{orb}(b)$. In this case, the polynomially convex hull of the spectra of the $a^\prime b^\prime$ is constant. When $\mathrm{orb}(a)=\mathrm{orb}(b)$, then $a$ is central under the aforementioned assumption -- and the result then generalizes part of an old theorem due to J. Zemánek. We show further that the two classical characterizations of commutative Banach algebras via the spectral radius can be algebraically localized in the sense of `local' implies `global'. Thereafter, in Section 3, we give a (somewhat weaker) localization of the above situation involving spectral perturbation on small neighborhoods in a similarity orbit. Finally, we apply the above results to algebraic elements and idempotents in particular, so that orthogonality of similarity orbits of two idempotents is equivalent to a pair of spectral radius properties. To conclude with, a couple of localization theorems specific to idempotents and algebraic elements are presented. Similar statements to all of the above hold if $ a^\prime b^\prime $ is replaced by $ a^\prime + b^\prime $, $ a^\prime - b^\prime $, or $ a^\prime + b^\prime-a^\prime b^\prime $.

Two associative operads of packed words

Abstract:The associative operad is a central structure in operad theory, defined on the linear span of the set of permutations. We build two analogs of the associative operad on the linear span of the set of packed words which turn out to be set-theoretical. By seeing a packed word as a surjective map between two finite sets, our first operad is graded by the cardinality of the domain and the second one, by the cardinality of the codomain. In the same way as the associative operad of permutations contains as quotients the duplicial and interstice operads, we derive similar structures for our operads of packed words. We propose also an analogue of Dynkin idempotent of Zie algebras in this context of operads of packed words.

Abstract:We study diverse parametrized versions of the operad of associative algebra, where the parameter are taken in an associative semigroup $\Omega$ (generalization of matching or family associative algebras) or in its cartesian square (two-parameters associative algebras). We give a description of the free algebras on these operads, study their formal series and prove that they are Koszul when the set of parameters is finite. We also study operadic morphisms between the operad of classical associative algebras and these objects, and links with other types of algebras (diassociative, dendriform, post-Lie...).

Abstract:Let $X$ be a locally compact Hausdorff space, let $A$ be a partially ordered algebra, and let $\pi\colon \mathrm{C}_{\mathrm c}(X)\to A$ be a positive algebra homomorphism. Under conditions on $A$ that are satisfied in a good number of cases of practical interest, it is shown that $\pi$ is represented by a unique regular spectral measure $\mu$ on the Borel $\sigma$-algebra of $X$, taking its values in the positive idempotents in $A$. The measure $\mu$, which is $\sigma$-additive in an ordered sense, represents $\pi$ via the order integral (a generalisation of the Lebesgue integral) that goes back to J.D.M. Wright and which was investigated earlier by the authors. The positive algebra homomorphism $\pi$ can be extended from $\mathrm{C}_{\mathrm c}(X)$ to a positive linear map from the accompanying $L^1$-space of $\mu$ into $A$. It is shown that, quite often, this $L^1$-space is closed under multiplication, so that it is a vector lattice algebra, and that the extended map from $L^1$ into $A$ is not only an algebra homomorphism but, even when $A$ is not a vector lattice, also a vector lattice homomorphism in a sense that is explained in the paper. When $ A$ has the countable sup property, the image of $L^1$ (or of its positive cone) is described in terms of consecutive ups and downs of the image of ${\mathrm C}_{\mathrm c}(X)$ (or of its positive cone). The general results are applied in three different contexts, showing how various spectral theorems have a common order-theoretical root: representations on Banach lattices, on Hilbert spaces, and (the algebra need not consist of operators) spectral theory for JBW-algebras.
