Abstract:We look at various forms of spectrum and associated pseudospectrum that can be defined for noncommuting $d$-tuples of Hermitian elements of a $C^*$-algebra. The emphasis is on theoretical calculations of examples, in particular for noncommuting pairs and triple of operators on infinite dimensional Hilbert space. In particular, we look at the universal pair of projections in a $C^*$-algebra, the usual position and momentum operators, and triples of tridiagonal operators.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on the definition, properties and applications of multivariate pseudospectra in C* - algebras. Specifically: 1. **Definition and Computation**: The paper explores how to define various forms of spectra and pseudospectra for d non - commutative Hermitian elements, especially for non - commutative operator pairs and triples on infinite - dimensional Hilbert spaces. The author introduces the concept of Clifford spectrum and defines the corresponding spectral localizer: \[ L_\lambda(A) = \sum_{j = 1}^d (A_j - \lambda_jI)\otimes\Gamma_j \] where \(\Gamma_j\) satisfies the Clifford relations: \[ \Gamma_j^*=\Gamma_j, \quad \Gamma_j^2 = I, \quad \Gamma_j\Gamma_k = -\Gamma_k\Gamma_j\quad (j\neq k) \] 2. **Theoretical Computation and Properties**: The paper studies the properties of these spectra and pseudospectra through theoretical computation and specific examples. For example, the author discusses the compactness, symmetry and invariance under different representations of the Clifford spectrum. In addition, the behavior of the Clifford spectrum in some special cases, such as the Clifford spectra of operator pairs and triples, is also explored. 3. **Study of the Infinite - Dimensional Case**: The paper pays special attention to examples on infinite - dimensional Hilbert spaces, which is an important difference from the finite - dimensional case. Through calculations in Toeplitz algebras and Calkin algebras, the author shows the unique properties of the Clifford spectrum in the infinite - dimensional case. For example, it can be a hemispherical surface rather than a complete spherical surface. 4. **Applications and Significance**: The paper also discusses the applications of the Clifford spectrum in physics and other fields, such as photonics, acoustics, nonlinear systems and non - Hermitian systems. The relationship between the Clifford spectrum and K - theory is also noted. Overall, this paper aims to gain an in - depth understanding of the theoretical basis of multivariate pseudospectra in C* - algebras and explore their application potential in practical problems.
