Abstract:Given different speeds $c_1$ , ... , $c_K$, in the present paper we establish the existence of a solution to the Zakharov system in dimension 1 that behaves asymptotically like a $K$-solitary wave, each wave travelling with speed $c_k$. The proof is adapted from previous results for the NLS and gKdV equations.

Abstract:We prove the asymptotic stability of a finite sum of well-ordered solitary waves for the Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation in dimensions two and three. We also derive a qualitative version of the orbital stability result, which will be useful for studying the collision of two solitary waves in a forthcoming paper. The proof extends the ideas of Martel, Merle and Tsai for the sub-critical gKdV equation in dimension one to the higher-dimensional case. It relies on monotonicity properties on oblique half-spaces and rigidity properties around one solitary wave introduced by Côte, Muñoz, Pilod and Simpson in dimension two, and by Farah, Holmer, Roudenko and Yang in dimension three.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the collision of two solitary waves for the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in dimension $2$ and $3$. We describe the evolution of the solution behaving as a sum of $2$-solitary waves of nearly equal speeds at time $t=-\infty$ up to time $t=+\infty$. We show that this solution behaves as the sum of two modulated solitary waves and an error term which is small in $H^1$ for all time $t \in \mathbb R$. Finally, we also prove the stability of this solution for large times around the collision.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the stability for line solitary waves of the two dimensional Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation on $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}_L$ which is one of a high dimensional generalization of Korteweg-de Vries equation , where $\mathbb{T}_L$ is the torus with the period $2\pi L$. The orbital and asymptotic stability of the one soliton of Korteweg-de Vries equation on the energy space has been proved by Benjamin, Pego and Weinstein and Martel and Merle. We regard the one soliton of Korteweg-de Vries equation as a line solitary wave of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation on $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}_L$. We prove the stability and the transverse instability of the line solitary waves of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation by applying Evans' function method and the argument of Rousset and Tzvetkov. Moreover, we prove the asymptotic stability for the orbitally stable line solitary wave of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation by using the argument of Martel and Merle, a Liouville type theorem and a corrected virial type estimate.

On the near soliton dynamics for the 2D cubic Zakharov-Kuznetsov equations

Abstract:In this article, we consider the Cauchy problem for the cubic (mass-critical) Zakharov-Kuznetsov equations in dimension two: $$\partial_t u+\partial_{x_1}(\Delta u+u^3)=0,\quad (t,x)\in [0,\infty)\times \mathbb{R}^{2}.$$ For initial data in $H^1$ close to the soliton with a suitable space-decay property, we fully describe the asymptotic behavior of the corresponding solution. More precisely, for such initial data, we show that only three possible behaviors can occur: 1) The solution leaves a tube near soliton in finite time; 2) the solution blows up in finite time; 3) the solution is global and locally converges to a soliton. In addition, we show that for initial data near a soliton with non-positive energy and above the threshold mass, the corresponding solution will blow up as described in Case 2. Our proof is inspired by the techniques developed for mass-critical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation (gKdV) equation in a similar context by Martel-Merle-Raphaël. More precisely, our proof relies on refined modulation estimates and a modified energy-virial Lyapunov functional. The primary challenge in our problem is the lack of coercivity of the Schrödinger operator which appears in the virial-type estimate. To overcome the difficulty, we apply a transform, which was first introduced in Kenig-Martel [13], to perform the virial computations after converting the original problem to the adjoint one. Th coercivity of the Schrödinger operator in the adjoint problem has been numerically verified by Farah-Holmer-Roudenko-Yang [9].

Multi-solitons of one-dimensional Boussinesq equation

Abstract:The existence of multi-speed solitary waves for the one-dimensional good Boussinesq equation with a power nonlinearity is proven. These solutions are shown to behave at large times as a pair of scalar solitary waves traveling at different speeds. Both subcritical and supercritical cases are treated. The proof is based on the construction of approximations of the multi-speed solitary waves by solving an equivalent system backward in time and using energy methods to obtain uniform estimates.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose and study two time-splitting spectral methods for the generalized Zakharov system. These methods are spectrally accurate in space, second order in time, and unconditionally stable. The unconditional stability of the methods offers greater numerical efficiency than those given in previous papers, especially in the subsonic regime. Our numerical experiments confirm the accuracy and stability. In particular, we analyze their behavior in the subsonic regime. The first method, using the exact time integration in phase space for the wave equation for the nondispersive field, converges uniformly with respect to the sound speed for the dispersive wave field, while the second method, using the Crank–Nicolson method in the same step, with an initial layer fix by an L-stable time discretization, converges uniformly with respect to the sound speed for both dispersive and nondispersive fields. Using these new methods we also study the collision behavior of two solitons, in the subsonic region as well as the transsonic region. We obtain numerical results which are quantitatively different from those reported in previous papers using lower resolution numerical techniques.

Abstract:We consider perturbations of the one-dimensional cubic Schrödinger equation, under the form i ∂ t ψ + ∂ x 2 ψ + | ψ | 2 ψ − g ( | ψ | 2 ) ψ = 0 . Under hypotheses on the function g that can be easily verified in some cases, we show that the linearized problem around a solitary wave does not have internal mode (nor resonance) and we prove the asymptotic stability of these solitary waves, for small frequencies.

Coupled solitons of intense high-frequency and low-frequency waves in Zakharov-type systems

Abstract:One-parameter families of exact two-component solitary-wave solutions for interacting high-frequency (HF) and low-frequency (LF) waves are found in the framework of Zakharov-type models, which couple the nonlinear Schrödinger equation for intense HF waves to the Boussinesq (Bq) or Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation for the LF component through quadratic terms. The systems apply, in particular, to the interaction of surface (HF) and internal (LF) waves in stratified fluids. These solutions are two-component generalizations of the single-component Bq and KdV solitons. Perturbed dynamics and stability of the solitary waves are studied in detail by means of analytical and numerical methods. Essentially, they are stable against separation of the HF and LF components if the latter one is shaped as a potential well acting on the HF field, and unstable, against splitting of the two components, with a barrier-shaped LF one. Collisions between the solitary waves are studied by means of direct simulations, demonstrating a trend to merger of in-phase solitons, and elastic interactions of out-of-phase ones.

Abstract:In many applications, the investigation of traveling wave solutions is essential in obtaining an accurate description of the dynamical behavior of most physical phenomena. The exact solutions to nonlinear equations can provide more physical descriptions and insightful details for many problems of practical interest. This paper focuses on investigating the solitary wave solutions of the generalized Zakharov equations (GZEs) by using four integration algorithms, namely, the modified $ (g'/g^{2}) $-expansion method, the modified $ (g') $-expansion method, the generalized simple ($ w/g $)-expansion method, and the addendum to Kudryashov's method. The GZEs have been widely used to describe the propagation of Langmuir waves in the field of plasma physics. The efficiency and simplicity of these methods are evaluated based on their application to GZEs, which have yielded multiple new optical solitary wave solutions in the form of rational, trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions. By using a suitable wave transformation, the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations. The derived optical solutions are graphically depicted in $ 2 $D and $ 3 $D plots for some specific parameter values. The traveling wave solutions discovered in the current study constitute just one example of the desired solutions that may enable the exploration of the physical properties of many complex systems and could also contribute greatly to improving our understanding of many interesting natural phenomena that arise in different applications, including plasma physics, fluid mechanics, protein chemistry, wave propagation, and optical fibers.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct center stable manifolds around unstable line solitary waves of the Zakharov--Kuznetsov equation on two dimensional cylindrical spaces with $2\pi L$ period. In the previous paper, center stable manifolds around unstable line solitary waves have been constructed without critical speed $c =4n^2/5L^2$ for positive integer $n>1$. Since the linearized operator around line solitary waves with critical speed is degenerate, we prove the stability condition of the center stable manifold for critical speed by applying to the estimate of 4th order term of a Lyapunov function.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:In this study, we explore the fractional Zakharov system using the M-truncated derivative for the first time. Some new solitary wave and periodic solutions are derived for the fractional Zakharov equations through two advanced mathematical techniques: the fractional sine–Gordon expansion method and the fractional rational sine–cosine method. The obtained solutions are new to the fractional Zakharov equations that have not been reported in the previous literature. Visual representations of the solutions are provided using 3D and 2D graphical illustrations, offering insights relevant to associated physics and engineering disciplines. Notably, the proposed methodologies are streamlined, straightforward, and effective, holding promise for addressing various fractional evolution equations.

Abstract:The generalized Zakharov system (ZS) couples a dispersive field E (scalar or vectorial) and$\mathcal{J}$ nondispersive fields$\{n_j\}_{j=1}^\mathcal{J}$ with a propagating speed of$1/\in_j$. In this paper, we extend our one-dimensional time-splitting spectral method (TSSP) for the generalized ZS into higher dimension. A main new idea is to reformulate the multi-dimensional wave equations for the nondispersive fields into a first-order system using a change of variable defined in the Fourier space. The proposed scheme TSSP is unconditionally stable, second-order in time and spectrally accurate in space. Moreover, in the subsonic regime, it allows numerical capturing of the subsonic limit without resolving the small parameters$\in_j$. Numerical examples confirm these properties of this method

Abstract:We consider perturbations of the one-dimensional cubic Schrödinger equation, of the form . Under hypotheses on the function that can be easily verified in some cases (such as with ), we show that the linearized problem around a small solitary wave presents a unique internal mode. Moreover, under an additional hypothesis (the Fermi golden rule) that can also be verified in the case of powers , we prove the asymptotic stability of the solitary waves with small frequencies.

Abstract:General higher order rogue waves of a vector nonlinear Schrodinger equation (Manakov system) are derived using a Darboux-dressing transformation with an asymptotic expansion method. The Nth order semi-rational solutions containing 3N free parameters are expressed in separation of variables form. These solutions exhibit rogue waves on a multisoliton background. They demonstrate that the structure of rogue waves in this two-component system is richer than that in a one-component system. The study of our results would be of much importance in understanding and predicting rogue wave phenomena arising in nonlinear and complex systems, including optics, fluid dynamics, Bose-Einstein condensates and finance and so on.

Abstract:We provide the existence and asymptotic description of solitary wave solutions to a class of modified Green-Naghdi systems, modeling the propagation of long surface or internal waves. This class was recently proposed by Duch{ê}ne, Israwi and Talhouk (Stud. Appl. Math.,137 (2016)) in order to improve the frequency dispersion of the original Green-Naghdi system while maintaining the same precision. The solitary waves are constructed from the solutions of a constrained minimization problem. The main difficulties stem from the fact that the functional at stake involves low order non-local operators, intertwining multiplications and convolutions through Fourier multipliers.
