Abstract:We construct an intertwining map from the oscillator representation to the tensor product of two degenerate principal series of G and G′ which form a reductive dual pair in the sense of Howe. We derive results on local theta correspondence for the dual pairs (O(p, q), Sp(2q, R)), (U(p, q), U(q, q)) and (Sp(p, q), O*(4q)), where p⩾q. We also describe the correspondence completely for the pairs (O(p, q), SL(2, R)), (U(p, q)U(1, 1)), and (Sp(p, q), O*(4)).

Abstract:We introduce `canonical' classes in the Selmer groups of certain Galois representations with a conjugate-symplectic symmetry. They are images of special cycles in unitary Shimura varieties, and defined uniquely up to a scalar. The construction is a slight refinement of one of Y. Liu, based on the conjectural modularity of Kudla's theta series of special cycles. For 2-dimensional representations, Theta cycles are (the Selmer images of) Heegner points. In general, they conjecturally exhibit an analogous strong relation with the Beilinson--Bloch--Kato conjectures in rank 1, for which we gather the available evidence.

Abstract:We relate the mixed Hodge structure on the cohomology of open positroid varieties (in particular, their Betti numbers over $\mathbb{C}$ and point counts over $\mathbb{F}_q$) to Khovanov--Rozansky homology of associated links. We deduce that the mixed Hodge polynomials of top-dimensional open positroid varieties are given by rational $q,t$-Catalan numbers. Via the curious Lefschetz property of cluster varieties, this implies the $q,t$-symmetry and unimodality properties of rational $q,t$-Catalan numbers. We show that the $q,t$-symmetry phenomenon is a manifestation of Koszul duality for category $\mathcal{O}$, and discuss relations with open Richardson varieties and extension groups of Verma modules.

Abstract:In this paper we observe that isomorphism classes of certain metrized vector bundles over P^1-{0,infinity} can be parameterized by arithmetic quotients of loop groups. We construct an asymptotic version of theta functions, which are defined on these quotients. Then we prove the convergence and extend the theta functions to loop symplectic groups. We interpret them as sections of line bundles over an infinite dimensional torus, discuss the relations with loop Heisenberg groups, and give an asymptotic multiplication formula.

Abstract:For a generic compact Riemann surface the theta function is at every point on the Jacobian equal to its first Taylor term, up to a holomorphic change of local coordinates and multiplication by a local holomorphic unit. More generally, any Brill-Noether locus of twisted stable vector bundles on a smooth projective curve is at every point L locally étale isomorphic with its tangent cone if the Petri map at L is injective. This assumption has various consequences for Brill-Noether loci: positive answers to the monodromy conjecture for generalized theta divisors and to questions of Schnell-Yang on log resolutions and Whitney stratifications, and formulas for local b-functions, log canonical thresholds, topological zeta functions, and minimal discrepancies.

Tropical Theta Functions and Log Calabi-Yau Surfaces

Abstract:We generalize the standard combinatorial techniques of toric geometry to the study of log Calabi-Yau surfaces. The character and cocharacter lattices are replaced by certain integral linear manifolds described by Gross, Hacking, and Keel, and monomials on toric varieties are replaced with the canonical theta functions which GHK defined using ideas from mirror symmetry. We describe the tropicalizations of theta functions and use them to generalize the dual pairing between the character and cocharacter lattices. We use this to describe generalizations of dual cones, Newton and polar polytopes, Minkowski sums, and finite Fourier series expansions. We hope that these techniques will generalize to higher-rank cluster varieties.

Lyashko-Looijenga morphisms and primitive factorizations of the Coxeter element

Abstract:In a seminal work, Bessis gave a geometric interpretation of the noncrossing lattice $NC(W)$ associated to a well-generated complex reflection group $W$. Chief component of this was the trivialization theorem, a fundamental correspondence between families of chains of $NC(W)$ and the fibers of a finite quasi-homogeneous morphism, the $LL$ map. We consider a variant of the $LL$ map, prescribed by the trivialization theorem, and apply it to the study of finer enumerative and structural properties of $NC(W)$. In particular, we extend work of Bessis and Ripoll and enumerate the so-called "primitive factorizations" of the Coxeter element $c$. That is, length additive factorizations of the form $c=w\cdot t_1\cdots t_k$, where $w$ belongs to a given conjugacy class and the $t_i$'s are reflections.

Abstract:We study the combinatorics of fully commutative elements in Coxeter groups of type $H_n$ for any $n > 2$. Using the results, we construct certain canonical bases (i.e., IC bases) for non-simply-laced generalized Temperley--Lieb algebras and show how to relate them to morphisms in the category of decorated tangles.

Abstract:The ring of symmetric functions can be implemented in the homology of \union_{a,b} Gr(a,a+b), the multiplicative structure being defined from the "direct sum" map. There is a natural circle action (simultaneously on all Grassmannians) under which each direct sum map is equivariant. Upon replacing usual homology by equivariant K-homology, we obtain a 2-parameter deformation of the ring of symmetric functions. This ring has a module basis given by Schubert classes. Geometric considerations show that multiplication of Schubert classes has positive coefficients, in an appropriate sense. In this paper we give manifestly positive formulae for these coefficients: they count numbers of "DS pipe dreams'' with prescribed edge labelings.
The log-open correspondence for two-component Looijenga pairs

Abstract:A two-component Looijenga pair is a rational smooth projective surface with an anticanonical divisor consisting of two transversally intersecting curves. We establish an all-genus correspondence between the logarithmic Gromov-Witten theory of a two-component Looijenga pair and open Gromov-Witten theory of a toric Calabi-Yau threefold geometrically engineered from the surface geometry. This settles a conjecture of Bousseau, Brini and van Garrel in the case of two boundary components. We also explain how the correspondence implies BPS integrality for the logarithmic invariants and provides a new means for computing them via the topological vertex method.

Lyashko-Looijenga morphisms and submaximal factorisations of a Coxeter element

Abstract:When W is a finite reflection group, the noncrossing partition lattice NCP_W of type W is a rich combinatorial object, extending the notion of noncrossing partitions of an n-gon. A formula (for which the only known proofs are case-by-case) expresses the number of multichains of a given length in NCP_W as a generalised Fuss-Catalan number, depending on the invariant degrees of W. We describe how to understand some specifications of this formula in a case-free way, using an interpretation of the chains of NCP_W as fibers of a Lyashko-Looijenga covering (LL), constructed from the geometry of the discriminant hypersurface of W. We study algebraically the map LL, describing the factorisations of its discriminant and its Jacobian. As byproducts, we generalise a formula stated by K. Saito for real reflection groups, and we deduce new enumeration formulas for certain factorisations of a Coxeter element of W.

Theta lifts to certain cohomological representations of indefinite orthogonal groups

Abstract:Howe and Tan (1993) investigated a degenerate principal series representation of indefinite orthogonal groups $\mathrm{O}(V)$ and explicitly described its composition series. They showed that there exists a unique unitarizable irreducible submodule $\Pi$, which is isomorphic to a cohomological representation. In this paper we construct orthogonal automorphic forms belonging to $\Pi$ as theta liftings of holomorphic $\mathrm{Mp}_2(\mathbb{R})$ cusp forms by using the Borcherds' method. We will give a useful observation in computing their Fourier expansions that enables us to give very precise descriptions of the liftings specially belonging to $\Pi$. We will also determine the cuspidal supports of the liftings, then confirm the square integrability of those automorphic forms on orthogonal groups.

Abstract:Fock and Goncharov conjectured that the indecomposable universally positive (i.e., atomic) elements of a cluster algebra should form a basis for the algebra. This was shown to be false by Lee-Li-Zelevinsky. However, we find that the theta bases of Gross-Hacking-Keel-Kontsevich do satisfy this conjecture for a slightly modified definition of universal positivity in which one replaces the positive atlas consisting of the clusters by an enlargement we call the scattering atlas. In particular, this uniquely characterizes the theta functions.

Koszul duality for Coxeter groups

Abstract:We construct a "Koszul duality" equivalence relating the (diagrammatic) Hecke category attached to a Coxeter system and a given realization to the Hecke category attached to the same Coxeter system and the dual realization. This extends a construction of Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel and Bezrukavnikov-Yun in a geometric context, and of the first author with Achar, Makisumi and Williamson. As an application, we show that the combinatorics of the "tilting perverse sheaves" considered in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1802.07651" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1802.07651">arXiv:1802.07651</a> is encoded in the combinatorics of the canonical basis of the Hecke algebra of $(W,S)$ attached to the dual realization.

Theta characteristics and noncongruence modular forms

Abstract:The Hodge bundle $\omega$ over a modular curve is a square-root of the canonical bundle twisted by the cuspidal divisor, or a theta characteristic, due to the Kodaira--Spencer isomorphism. We prove that, in most cases, a section of a theta characteristic $\nu$ (or any odd power of it) different from $\omega$ is a noncongruence modular form. On the other hand, we show how $\nu\ne\omega$ gives rise to a ``twisted'' analogue of the diagonal period map to a Siegel threefold, whose difference attributes to the stackiness of the moduli of abelian surfaces $\mathcal{A}_{2}$. Some questions on the Brill--Noether theory of the modular curves are answered.

Characteristic quasi-polynomials for deformations of Coxeter arrangements of types A, B, C, and D

Abstract:Kamiya, Takemura, and Terao introduced a characteristic quasi-polynomial which enumerates the numbers of elements in the complement of hyperplane arrangements modulo positive integers. In this paper, we compute the characteristic quasi-polynomials for arrangements which contain the Coxeter arrangements of types A, B, C, and D described by the orthonormal basis. We also compute the characteristic quasi-polynomials for their deletion arrangements and we can show that they are factorized. From this result, the poset generated by hypertori of the corresponding torus arrangement is an inductive poset.

Abstract:Motivated by the problem of giving an explicit description of the basic locus in the reduction of Shimura varieties, Görtz, He and Nie studied the cases where the basic affine Deligne-Lusztig variety, which serves as its group-theoretic model, is a union of classical Deligne-Lusztig varieties associated to Coxeter elements. In this paper, we study a natural generalization of this stratification in the case of $GL_n$.

Abstract:The Kac-Moody affine Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}$ was first constructed as the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of a $p$-adic Kac-Moody group by work of Braverman, Kazhdan, and Patnaik, and by work of Bardy-Panse, Gaussent, and Rousseau. Since $\mathcal{H}$ has a Bernstein presentation, for affine types it is a positive-level variation of Cherednik's double affine Hecke algebra. Moreover, as $\mathcal{H}$ is realized as a convolution algebra, it has an additional "$T$-basis" corresponding to indicator functions of double cosets. For classical affine Hecke algebras, this $T$-basis reflects the Coxeter group structure of the affine Weyl group. In the Kac-Moody affine context, the indexing set $W_{\mathcal{T}}$ for the $T$-basis is no longer a Coxeter group. Nonetheless, $W_{\mathcal{T}}$ carries some Coxeter-like structures: a Bruhat order, a length function, and a notion of inversion sets. This paper contains the first steps toward a Coxeter theory for Kac-Moody affine Hecke algebras. We prove three results. The first is a construction of the length function via a representation of $\mathcal{H}$. The second concerns the support of products in classical affine Hecke algebras. The third is a characterization of length deficits in the Kac-Moody affine setting via inversion sets. Using this characterization, we phrase our support theorem as a precise conjecture for Kac-Moody affine Hecke algebras. Lastly, we give a conjectural definition of a Kac-Moody affine Demazure product via the $q=0$ specialization of $\mathcal{H}$.

Lefschetz decompositions of Kudla-Millson theta functions

Abstract:In the 80's Kudla and Millson introduced a theta function in two variables. It behaves as a Siegel modular form with respect to the first variable, and is a closed differential form on an orthogonal Shimura variety with respect to the other variable. We prove that the Lefschetz decomposition of the cohomology class of that theta function is also its modular decomposition in Eisenstein, Klingen and cuspidal parts. We also show that the image of the Kudla-Millson lift is contained in the primitive cohomology of X. As an application, we deduce dimension formulas for the cohomology of X in low degree. Our results cover the cases of moduli spaces of compact hyperkähler manifolds.
