Abstract:In this article, we study the critical percolation threshold $p_c$ for $d$-regular graphs. It is well-known that $p_c \geq \frac{1}{d-1}$ for such graphs, with equality holding for the $d$-regular tree. We prove that among all quasi-transitive $d$-regular graphs, the equality $p_c(G) = \frac{1}{d-1}$ holds if and only if $G$ is a tree. Furthermore, we provide counterexamples that illustrate the necessity of the quasi-transitive assumption.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is: For a \(d\)-regular graph (i.e., a graph in which the degree of each vertex is \(d\)), are there graphs other than trees whose percolation critical threshold \(p_c\) is exactly equal to \(\frac{1}{d - 1}\)? Specifically, the author studied the percolation critical threshold \(p_c\) of quasi - transitive \(d\)-regular graphs. It is known that for a \(d\)-regular tree, \(p_c=\frac{1}{d - 1}\), but for a general \(d\)-regular graph, determining the exact value of \(p_c\) is a challenge. The author proved that among all quasi - transitive \(d\)-regular graphs, the equality \(p_c(G)=\frac{1}{d - 1}\) holds if and only if \(G\) is a tree. ### Main Conclusions 1. **Theorem 2**: Let \(G\) be a quasi - transitive \(d\)-regular graph. Then \(p_c(G)\geq\frac{1}{d - 1}\), and the equality holds if and only if \(G\) is a tree. 2. **Counterexample**: If the quasi - transitive assumption is removed, there exists a \(d\)-regular graph \(G\) with cycles such that \(p_c(G)=\frac{1}{d - 1}\), which shows that the quasi - transitive assumption is necessary. ### Methods The author covered any quasi - transitive \(d\)-regular graph with a \(d\)-regular tree by constructing a covering map and used strict monotonicity results to prove the above conclusions. In addition, the author also provided counterexamples to illustrate the importance of the quasi - transitive assumption. ### Related Background - **Percolation Theory**: Consider the independent edge percolation model on an infinite graph \(G\). Each edge is retained with probability \(p\) and deleted with probability \(1 - p\). Define the percolation measure \(P_p\) and the function \(\psi(p)=P_p(\exists \text{ infinite connected component})\), thus leading to the critical parameter \(p_c:=\sup\{p:\psi(p) = 0\}\). - **Connectivity Constant**: The definitions of self - avoiding walks and the connectivity constant \(\mu(G)\) and their relationship with the critical threshold. ### Conclusion The main contribution of this paper is to prove that under the quasi - transitive assumption, only trees can reach \(p_c=\frac{1}{d - 1}\), and emphasize the importance of the quasi - transitive assumption. This result helps to better understand the behavior of percolation phenomena on different types of graphs.
