Abstract:There are two permutation groups that they share the same character table of order 1344. We take up natural representations on 8 and 14 letters respectively. The purpose of this paper is to examine the semi-simple structure of centralizing algebras in the tensor representation.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.
Hadamard matrices in centraliser algebras of monomial representations

Abstract:Centraliser algebras of monomial representations of finite groups may be constructed and studied using methods similar to those employed in the study of permutation groups. Guided by results of D. G. Higman and others, we give an explicit construction for a basis of the centraliser algebra of a monomial representation. The character table of this algebra is then constructed via character sums over double cosets. We locate the theory of group-developed and cocyclic-developed Hadamard matrices within this framework. We apply Gröbner bases to produce a new classification of highly symmetric complex Hadamard matrices.

Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.
Centralizers of Lie Algebras Associated to the Descending Central Series of Certain Poly-Free Groups

Abstract:Poly-free groups are constructed as iterated semidirect products of free groups. The class of poly-free groups includes the classical pure braid groups, fundamental groups of fiber-type hyperplane arrangements, and certain subgroups of the automorphism groups of free groups. The purpose of this article is to compute centralizers of certain natural Lie subalgebras of the Lie algebra obtained from the descending central series of poly-free groups G including some of the geometrically interesting classes of groups mentioned above. The main results here extend results of Cohen and Prassidis for such groups. These results imply that a homomorphism out of G is faithful, essentially, if it is faithful when restricted to the level of Lie algebras obtained from the descending central series for the product F x Z, where F is the "top" free group in the semidirect products of free groups and Z is the center of G. The arguments use a mixture of homological, and Lie algebraic methods applied to certain choices of extensions. The limitations of these methods are illustrated using the "poison groups" of Formanek and Procesi, poly-free groups whose Lie algebras do not have certain properties considered here.

Abstract:Cayley graph over a group G is said to be central if its connection set is a normal subset of G . We prove that every central Cayley graph over a simple group G has at most two pairwise nonequivalent Cayley representations over G associated with the subgroups of Sym (G) induced by left and right multiplications of G . We also provide an algorithm which, given a central Cayley graph Γ over an almost simple group G whose socle is of a bounded index, finds the full set of pairwise nonequivalent Cayley representations of Γ over G in time polynomial in size of G .

Abstract:In this paper we study the tensor powers of the standard representation of the quantum super-algebra $U_q(sl(2|1)$, focusing on the rings of its algebra endomorphisms, called centraliser algebras and denoted by $LG_n$. Their dimensions were conjectured by I. Marin and E. Wagner \cite{MW}. We prove this conjecture, describing the intertwiner spaces from a semi-simple decomposition as sets consisting of certain paths in a planar lattice with integer coordinates. Using this model, we present a matrix unit basis for the centraliser algebra $LG_n$, by means of closed curves in the plane, which are included in the lattice with integer coordinates.

Abstract:In this note we generalize the definition of partial permutations of Ivanov and Kerov and we build a universal algebra which projects onto the m-centraliser algebra defined by Creedon. We use it to present a new proof for the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients of the m-centraliser algebra and to obtain upper bounds for the polynomial degrees.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a permutation group of degree $2(4^n-1)$, which is isomorphic to the $n$-qubit projective Clifford group. To establish this result, we study the centralizers of the $z$ gate and the phase gate within the $n$-qubit projective Clifford group by employing the normal form of the Clifford operators.

Abstract:Let u be a word over the positive integers. Motivated in part by a question from representation theory, we study the centralizer set of u which is C(u) = {w | uw is Knuth-equivalent to wu}. In particular, we give various necessary conditions for w to be in C(u). We also characterize C(u) when u has few letters, when it has a single repeated entry, or when it is a certain type of decreasing sequence. We consider c_{n,m}(u), the number of w in C(u) of length n with max w at most m. We prove that for |u| = 1 the value of this function depends only on the relative sizes of u and m and not on their actual values. And for various u we use Stanley's theory of poset partitions to show that, for fixed n, c_{n,m}(u) is a polynomial in m with certain degree and leading coefficient. We end with various conjectures and directions for further research.

Abstract:The idea of quantum computation is the most promising recent developments in the high-tech domain, while experimental realization of a quantum computer poses a formidable challenge. Among the proposed models especially attractive are semiconductor based nuclear spin quantum computer's (S-NSQC), where nuclear spins are used as quantum bistable elements, ''qubits'', coupled to the electron spin and orbital dynamics. We propose here a scheme for implementation of basic elements for S-NSQC's which are realizable within achievements of the modern nanotechnology. These elements are expected to be based on a nuclear-spin-controlled isotopically engineered Si/SiGe heterojunction, because in these semiconductors one can vary the abundance of nuclear spins by engineering the isotopic composition. A specific device is suggested, which allows one to model the processes of recording, reading and information transfer on a quantum level using the technique of electrical detection of the magnetic state of nuclear spins. Improvement of this technique for a semiconductor system with a relatively small number of nuclei might be applied to the manipulation of nuclear spin ''qubits'' in the future S-NSQC.

Abstract:For a finite group G, we denote by $\mu(G)$, and c(G), the minimal degree of faithful permutation representation of G, and the minimal degree of faithful representation of G by quasi-permutation matrices over the complex field C, respectively. In this article, we study $\mu(G)$, and c(G) for various classes of finite non-abelian p-groups with cyclic center. We prove a result for normally monomial p-groups with cyclic center which generalizes a result of Behravesh for finite p-groups of nilpotency class 2 with cyclic center [5, Theorem 4.12]. We also compute minimal degrees for some classes of metabelian p-groups.

Abstract:In 2019, Jung–Weber gave an example of a concrete magic unitary M , which defines a C* -algebraic model of the quantum permutation group S4+ . We show with the help of a computer that there exist no polynomials up to degree 50 separating the entries of M from the generators of C(S4+) . This indicates that the magic unitary M might already define a faithful model of S4+ .

Abstract:Permutation modules play an important role in the representation theory of the symmetric group. Hartmann and Paget defined permutation modules for non-degenerate Brauer algebras. We generalise their construction to a wider class of algebras, namely cellularly stratified algebras, satisfying certain conditions. Partition algebras are shown to satisfy these conditions, provided the characteristic of the underlying field is large enough. Thus we obtain a definition of permutation modules for partition algebras.

Abstract:For a finite group $G$, we denote by $c(G)$, the minimal degree of faithful representation of $G$ by quasi-permutation matrices over the complex field $\mathbb{C}$. For an irreducible character $\chi$ of $G$, the codegree of $\chi$ is defined as $\cod(\chi) = |G/ \ker(\chi)|/ \chi(1)$. In this article, we establish equality between $c(G)$ and a $\mathbb{Q}_{\geq 0}$-sum of codegrees of some irreducible characters of a non-abelian $p$-group $G$ of odd order. We also study the relation between $c(G)$ and irreducible character codegrees for various classes of non-abelian $p$-groups, such as, $p$-groups with cyclic center, maximal class $p$-groups, GVZ $p$-groups, and others.

Abstract:Semi-direct products of finite groups have permutation representations that are constructed from the permutation representations of their constituents. One can envision these in a metaphoric sense in which a rope is made from a bundle of threads. In this way, subgroups and quotients are easily visualized. The general idea is applied to the finite subgroups of the special unitary group of $(2\times 2)$-matrices. Amusing diagrams are developed that describe the unit quaternions, the binary tetrahedral, octahedral, and icosahedral group as well as the dicyclic groups. In all cases, the quotients as subgroups of the permutation group are readily apparent. These permutation representations lead to injective homomorphisms into semi-direct products.

Abstract:The quasi-partition algebras were introduced in [DO] as centralizers of the symmetric group. In this article, we give a more general definition of these algebras and give a construction of their simple modules. In addition, we introduce two new algebras, we give linear bases and show that for specializations of their parameters, these new algebras are isomorphic to centralizer algebras. We provide a generalized Bratteli diagram that illustrates how the representation theory of the three algebras discussed in this paper are related. Moreover, we give combinatorial formulas for the dimensions of the simple modules of these algebras.

Abstract:Building on work of Saxl, we classify the multiplicity-free permutation characters of all symmetric groups of degree 66 or more. A corollary is a complete list of the irreducible characters of symmetric groups (again of degree 66 or more) which may appear in a multiplicity-free permutation representation. The multiplicity-free characters in a related family of monomial characters are also classified. We end by investigating a consequence of these results for Specht filtrations of permutation modules defined over fields of prime characteristic. Remark: parallel work of Godsil and Meagher (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math/0612567" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math/0612567">arXiv:math/0612567</a>) gives an independent classification of the multiplicity-free permutation characters of symmetric groups of all degrees.

Identification of non-isomorphic 2-groups with dihedral central quotient and isomorphic modular group algebras

Abstract:The question whether non-isomorphic finite $p$-groups can have isomorphic modular group algebras was recently answered in the negative by García-Lucas, Margolis and del Río [J. Reine Angew. Math. 783 (2022), pp. 269-274]. We embed these negative solutions in the class of two-generated finite $2$-groups with dihedral central quotient, and solve the original question for all groups within this class. As a result, we discover new negative solutions and simple algebra isomorphisms. At the same time, the positive solutions for most of the groups in this class give some insights what makes the negative solutions special.
