Abstract:We establish a Skoda-type $L^2$ division theorem for $L^2$-optimal pairs, using a technique that combines a new Bochner-type inequality derived from the $L^2$-optimal conditions and Skoda's basic inequality. As applications, we provide some new characterizations of domains of holomorphy.

Abstract:We prove a Skoda-type division theorem via a degeneration argument. The proof is inspired by B. Berndtsson and L. Lempert's approach to the $L^2$ extension theorem and is based on positivity of direct image bundles. The same tools are then used to slightly simplify and extend the proof of the $L^2$ extension theorem given by Berndtsson and Lempert.

A new characterization of $L^2$-domains of holomorphy with null thin complements via $L^2$-optimal conditions

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the $L^2$-optimal condition implies the $L^2$-divisibility of $L^2$-integrable holomorphic functions. As an application, we offer a new characterization of bounded $L^2$-domains of holomorphy with null thin complements using the $L^2$-optimal condition, which appears to be advantageous in addressing a problem proposed by Deng-Ning-Wang. Through this characterization, we show that a domain in a Stein manifold with a null thin complement, admitting an exhaustion of complete Kähler domains, remains Stein. By the way, we construct an $L^2$-optimal domain that does not admit any complete Kähler metric.

Our second result is an optimal $L^2\times L^2\rightarrow L^1$ boundedness criterion for bilinear operators associated with multipliers with $L^\infty $ derivatives. This result provides the main tool in the proof of the first theorem and is also manifested in terms of the $L^q$ integrability of the multiplier. The optimal range is $q<4$ which, in the absence of Plancherel’s identity on $L^1$, should be compared to $q=\infty $ in the classical $L^2\rightarrow L^2$ boundedness for linear multiplier operators.

Abstract:Under certain integrability and geometric conditions, we prove division theorems for the exact sequences of holomorphic vector bundles and improve the results in the case of Koszul complex. By introducing a singular Hermitian structure on the trivial bundle, our results recover Skoda's division theorem for holomorphic functions on pseudoconvex domains in complex Euclidean spaces.

Abstract:This paper is the second part of our series of works to establish $L^2$ estimates and existence theorems for the $\overline{\partial}$ operators in infinite dimensions. In this part, we consider the most difficult case, i.e., the underlying space is a general pseudo-convex domain. In order to solve this longstanding open problem, we introduce several new concepts and techniques, which have independent interest and pave the way for research that investigates some other issues in infinite-dimensional analysis.

Abstract:Abstract We undertake a detailed study of the $$L^2$$ L 2 discrepancy of 2-dimensional Korobov lattices and their irrational analogues, either with or without symmetrization. We give a full characterization of such lattices with optimal $$L^2$$ L 2 discrepancy in terms of the continued fraction partial quotients, and compute the precise asymptotics whenever the continued fraction expansion is explicitly known, such as for quadratic irrationals or Euler’s number e . In the metric theory, we find the asymptotics of the $$L^2$$ L 2 discrepancy for almost every irrational, and the limit distribution for randomly chosen rational and irrational lattices.

Optimal quadrature errors and sampling numbers for Sobolev spaces with logarithmic perturbation on spheres

Abstract:In this paper, we study optimal quadrature errors, approximation numbers, and sampling numbers in $L_2(\Bbb S^d)$ for Sobolev spaces ${\rm H}^{\alpha,\beta}(\Bbb S^d)$ with logarithmic perturbation on the unit sphere $\Bbb S^d$ in $\Bbb R^{d+1}$. First we obtain strong equivalences of the approximation numbers for ${\rm H}^{\alpha,\beta}(\Bbb S^d)$ with $\alpha>0$, which gives a clue to Open problem 3 as posed by Krieg and Vybíral in \cite{KV}. Second, for the optimal quadrature errors for ${\rm H}^{\alpha,\beta}(\Bbb S^d)$, we use the "fooling" function technique to get lower bounds in the case $\alpha>d/2$, and apply Hilbert space structure and Vybíral's theorem about Schur product theory to obtain lower bounds in the case $\alpha=d/2,\,\beta>1/2$ of small smoothness, which confirms the conjecture as posed by Grabner and Stepanyukin in \cite{GS} and solves Open problem 2 in \cite{KV}. Finally, we employ the weighted least squares operators and the least squares quadrature rules to obtain approximation theorems and quadrature errors for ${\rm H}^{\alpha,\beta}(\Bbb S^d)$ with $\alpha>d/2$ or $\alpha=d/2,\,\beta>1/2$, which are order optimal.

Abstract:We identify a new way to divide the $\delta$-neighborhood of surfaces $\mathcal{M}\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ into a finitely-overlapping collection of rectangular boxes $S$. We obtain a sharp $(l^2,L^p)$ decoupling estimate using this decomposition, for the sharp range of exponents $2\leq p\leq 4$. Our decoupling inequality leads to new exponential sum estimates where the frequencies lie on surfaces which do not contain a line.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new concept of $L^2$-extension indices. This index is a function that gives the minimum constant with respect to the $L^2$-estimate of an Ohsawa--Takegoshi-type extension at each point. By using this notion, we propose a new way to study the positivity of curvature. We prove that there is an equivalence between how sharp the $L^2$-extension is and how positive the curvature is. New examples of sharper $L^2$-extensions are also systematically given. As applications, we use the $L^2$-extension index to study Prékopa-type theorems and to study the positivity of a certain direct image sheaf. We also provide new characterizations of pluriharmonicity and curvature flatness.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the local variational geometry of the optimal solution set of the trust region subproblem (TRS), which minimizes a general, possibly nonconvex, quadratic function over the unit ball. Specifically, we demonstrate that a Hölderian error bound holds globally for the TRS with modulus 1/4, and the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KL) inequality holds locally for the TRS with a KL exponent 3/4 at any optimal solution. We further prove that, unless in a special case, the Hölderian error bound modulus and the KL exponent is 1/2. Finally, as a byproduct, we further apply the obtained KL property to show that projected gradient methods studied elsewhere for solving the TRS achieve a local sublinear or even linear rate of convergence with probability 1 by choosing a proper initial point.

Abstract:Handling an infinite number of inequality constraints in infinite-dimensional spaces occurs in many fields, from global optimization to optimal transport. These problems have been tackled individually in several previous articles through kernel Sum-of-Squares (kSoS) approximations. We propose here a unified theorem to prove convergence guarantees for these schemes. Pointwise inequalities are turned into equalities within a class of nonnegative kSoS functions. Assuming further that the functions appearing in the problem are smooth, focusing on pointwise equality constraints enables the use of scattering inequalities to mitigate the curse of dimensionality in sampling the constraints. Our approach is illustrated in learning vector fields with side information, here the invariance of a set.
