Abstract:This work investigates a passive vector field which is transported and stretched by a divergence-free Gaussian velocity field, delta-correlated in time and poorly correlated in space (spatially nonsmooth). Although the advection of a scalar field (Kraichnan's passive scalar model) is known to enjoy regularizing properties, the potentially competing stretching term in vector advection may induce singularity formation. We establish that the regularization effect is actually retained in certain regimes. While this is true in any dimension $d\ge 3$, it notably implies a regularization result for linearized 3D Euler equations with stochastic modeling of turbulent velocities, and for the induction equation in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### The problems that the paper attempts to solve
This paper explores the singularity and regularization effects of the passive vector field in the Kazantsev - Kraichnan model. Specifically, the paper studies a passive vector field that is transported and stretched by a divergence - free Gaussian velocity field, which is delta - correlated in time and not smooth in space. Although the transport of the scalar field (Kraichnan's passive scalar model) has a regularization property, the stretching term in the vector field transport may lead to singularity formation. The main goal of the paper is to prove that within certain parameter ranges, the regularization effect still exists.
### Background and motivation
1. **Model background**:
- **Magnetic induction**: The passive vector field \(M\) can represent the magnetic field generated by a current - carrying fluid, assuming that the Lorentz force can be neglected (i.e., infinite electrical conductivity).
- **Incompressible Euler equations**: The passive vector field \(M\) can also represent the vorticity field of a constant - density fluid, satisfying \(M=\nabla\times u\), where \(u\) is the velocity field.
2. **Mathematical problems**:
- **Regularity and singularity**: In the 3D Euler equations, even if the initial conditions are smooth, the equations may develop singularities in a finite time.
- **Transport and stretching terms**: The transport term \((u\cdot\nabla)M\) helps to stabilize the flow, while the stretching term \((M\cdot\nabla)u\) may promote the development of singularities.
3. **Stochastic methods**:
- **Random velocity field**: By considering a random velocity field \(u\) with predetermined statistical properties, study the regularity of the random solution \(M\).
- **Kazantsev - Kraichnan model**: Use the Gaussian random vector field \(u_K\) to model the turbulent velocity field, which is delta - correlated in time and has a power - law covariance spectrum in space.
### Main results
The main results of the paper show that within certain parameter ranges, the Kazantsev - Kraichnan model maintains an anomalous regularization property. Specifically:
- For \(d\geq3\), \(\alpha\in(0,\hat{\alpha}_d^+\wedge1)\), \(s\in(\hat{s}_d^{-,\alpha},\hat{s}_d^{+,\alpha}\wedge(d / 2))\), where \(\hat{\alpha}_d^+\), \(\hat{s}_d^{-,\alpha}\), \(\hat{s}_d^{+,\alpha}\) are defined in Assumption 3.11.
- For any initial condition \(M_0\in\dot{H}^{-s}_{\text{div} = 0}\), there exists a unique solution \(M\) such that \(M\in L^2_t,\omega(\dot{H}^{-s + 1-\alpha}_{\text{div} = 0})\).
- The solution \(M\) satisfies the following estimate:
\[
\sup_{t\in[0,T]}\mathbb{E}[\|M_t\|^2_{\dot{H}^{-s}}]+\eta_{d,s,\alpha}\int_0^T\mathbb{E}[\|M_r\|^2_{\dot{H}^{-s+1-\alpha}}]dr\leq e^{\rho_{d,s,\alpha}T}\|M_0\|^2_{\dot{H}^{-s}}
\]
### Methods and techniques
1. **Heuristic derivation**:
- Simplify the calculation through the self - similar approximation \(Q(0)-Q(x)\approx\beta_L|x|^{2\alpha}P_L(x)+\beta_N|x|^{2\alpha}P_N(x)\)
