Abstract:We derive a $K$-theoretic analogue of the Vafa--Intriligator formula, computing the (virtual) Euler characteristics of vector bundles over the Quot scheme that compactifies the space of degree $d$ morphisms from a fixed projective curve to the Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}(r,N)$. As an application, we deduce interesting vanishing results, used in Part I (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2406.12191" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2406.12191">arXiv:2406.12191</a>) to study the quantum $K$-ring of $\mathrm{Gr}(r,N)$. In the genus-zero case, we prove a simplified formula involving Schur functions, consistent with the Borel-Weil-Bott theorem in the degree-zero setting. These new formulas offer a novel approach for computing the structure constants of quantum $K$-products.

Abstract:An alternative concept of the basic invariants is introduced. The Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory is extended to obtain a generalized invariant formulation. The formulation is then used to establish four facts: (i) Any invariant for a quantum system can be constructed in terms of the basic invariants. (ii) It is possible to introduce a solution-generating technique by making use of the basic invariants. (iii) The path integral in the generalized invariant formulation reduces to an ordinary integral. (iv) The study of noncyclic evolution of a quantum system reduces explicitly to the study of the cyclic evolution. Finally, phase factors and general solution for the driven generalized time-dependent harmonic oscillator are studied as an illustrative example.
Quantum intersection numbers and the Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathbb{CP}^1$

Abstract:The notion of a quantum tau-function for a natural quantization of the KdV hierarchy was introduced in a work of Dubrovin, Guéré, Rossi, and the second author. A certain natural choice of a quantum tau-function was then described by the first author, the coefficients of the logarithm of this series are called the quantum intersection numbers. Because of the Kontsevich-Witten theorem, a part of the quantum intersection numbers coincides with the classical intersection numbers of psi-classes on the moduli spaces of stable algebraic curves. In this paper, we relate the quantum intersection numbers to the stationary relative Gromov-Witten invariants of $(\mathbb{CP}^1,0,\infty)$ with an insertion of a Hodge class. Using the Okounkov-Pandharipande approach to such invariants (with the trivial Hodge class) through the infinite wedge formalism, we then give a short proof of an explicit formula for the ``purely quantum'' part of the quantum intersection numbers, found by the first author, which in particular relates these numbers to the one-part double Hurwitz numbers.

Quantum K-invariants and Gopakumar-Vafa invariants II. Calabi-Yau threefolds at genus zero

Abstract:This is the second part of our ongoing project on the relations between Gopakumar-Vafa BPS invariants (GV) and quantum K-theory (QK) on the Calabi--Yau threefolds (CY3). We show that on CY3 a genus zero quantum K-invariant can be written as a linear combination of a finite number of Gopakumar--Vafa invariants with coefficients from an explicit ``multiple cover formula''. Conversely, GV can be determined by QK in a similar manner. The technical heart is a proof of a remarkable conjecture by Hans Jockers and Peter Mayr. This result is consistent with the ``virtual Clemens conjecture'' for the Calabi--Yau threefolds. A heuristic derivation of the relation between QK and GV via the virtual Clemens conjecture and the multiple cover formula is also given.

K-theoretic Gromov-Witten invariants of line degrees on flag varieties

Abstract:A homology class $d \in H_2(X)$ of a complex flag variety $X = G/P$ is called a line degree if the moduli space $\overline{M}_{0,0}(X,d)$ of 0-pointed stable maps to $X$ of degree $d$ is also a flag variety $G/P'$. We prove a quantum equals classical formula stating that any $n$-pointed (equivariant, K-theoretic, genus zero) Gromov-Witten invariant of line degree on $X$ is equal to a classical intersection number computed on the flag variety $G/P'$. We also prove an $n$-pointed analogue of the Peterson comparison formula stating that these invariants coincide with Gromov-Witten invariants of the variety of complete flags $G/B$. Our formulas make it straightforward to compute the big quantum K-theory ring of $X$ modulo degrees larger than line degrees.

A general Chevalley formula for semi-infinite flag manifolds and quantum K-theory

Abstract:We give a Chevalley formula for an arbitrary weight for the torus-equivariant $K$-group of semi-infinite flag manifolds, which is expressed in terms of the quantum alcove model. As an application, we prove the Chevalley formula for an anti-dominant fundamental weight for the (small) torus-equivariant quantum $K$-theory $QK_{T}(G/B)$ of an (ordinary) flag manifold $G/B$; this has been a longstanding conjecture about the multiplicative structure of $QK_{T}(G/B)$. In type $A_{n-1}$, we prove that the so-called quantum Grothendieck polynomials indeed represent (opposite) Schubert classes in the (non-equivariant) quantum $K$-theory $QK(SL_{n}/B)$; we also obtain very explicit information about the coefficients in the respective Chevalley formula.

Abstract:We study the virtual Euler characteristics of sheaves over Quot schemes of curves, establishing that these invariants fit into a topological quantum field theory (TQFT) valued in $\mathbb{Z}[[q]]$. Utilizing Quot scheme compactifications alongside the TQFT framework, we derive presentations of the small quantum $K$-ring of the Grassmannian. Our approach offers a new method for finding explicit formulas for quantum $K$-invariants.

Abstract:In this paper, we first generalize the K-theoretic Ancestor-Descendant (AD) correspondence in \cite{perm7} to allow arbitrary permutative inputs. With this version of AD correspondence, we reconstruct K-theoretical descendant $g=0$ invariants, and $g=1$ invariants with point target space, from $1$-point invariants of the corresponding genus. In the appendix, we show that the graph of big $\mathcal{J}$ function also forms a Lagrangian cone in the permutation equivariant setting.

Abstract:Given a closed symplectic manifold $X$, we construct Gromov-Witten-type invariants valued both in (complex) $K$-theory and in any complex-oriented cohomology theory $\mathbb{K}$ which is $K_p(n)$-local for some Morava $K$-theory $K_p(n)$. We show that these invariants satisfy a version of the Kontsevich-Manin axioms, extending Givental and Lee's work for the quantum $K$-theory of complex projective algebraic varieties. In particular, we prove a Gromov-Witten type splitting axiom, and hence define quantum $K$-theory and quantum $\mathbb{K}$-theory as commutative deformations of the corresponding (generalised) cohomology rings of $X$; the definition of the quantum product involves the formal group of the underlying cohomology theory. The key geometric input to these results is a construction of global Kuranishi charts for moduli spaces of stable maps of arbitrary genus to $X$. On the algebraic side, in order to establish a common framework covering both ordinary $K$-theory and $K_p(n)$-local theories, we introduce a formalism of `counting theories' for enumerative invariants on a category of global Kuranishi charts.

On a Graph Theoretic Formula of Gammelgaard for Berezin–Toeplitz Quantization

Abstract:We give a proof of (a slightly refined version of) a graph theoretic formula due to Gammelgaard, Karabegov and Schlichenmaier for Berezin–Toeplitz quantization on Kähler manifolds. We obtain the formula by inverting the Berezin transform using a composition formula for the ring of differential operators encoded by linear combinations of strongly connected graphs. The same method is also used to identify the dual Karabegov–Bordemann–Waldmann star product. Our proof has the merit of giving more insight into Karabegov–Schlichenmaier’s identification theorem (Karabegov in J Reine Angew Math 540:49–76, 2001 ) that the Karabegov classifying form of the Berezin and Berezin–Toeplitz star products are, respectively, obtained by deforming the Kähler metric along the Ricci curvature and the logarithm of the Bergman kernel.

Abstract:We derive cancellation-free Chevalley-type multiplication formulas for the T-equivariant quantum K-theory ring of Grassmannians of type A and C, and also those of two-step flag manifolds of type A. They are obtained based on the uniform Chevalley formula in the T-equivariant quantum K-theory ring of arbitrary flag manifolds G / B , which was derived earlier in terms of the quantum alcove model, by the last three authors.

Abstract:We found an interesting application of the K-theoretic Heisenberg algebras of Weiqiang Wang to the foundations of permutation equivariant K-theoretic Gromov--Witten theory. We also found an explicit formula for the genus 0 correlators in the permutation equivariant Gromov--Witten theory of the point. In the non-equivariant limit our formula reduces to a well known formula due to Y.P. Lee.

On certain invariants of compact quantum groups

Abstract:We introduce and study a number of invariants of locally compact quantum groups defined by their scaling and modular groups and the spectrum of their modular elements. Focusing mainly on compact quantum groups we consider the question whether triviality of one of the invariants is equivalent to the quantum group being of Kac type and show that it has a positive answer in many cases including duals of second countable type $\mathrm{I}$ discrete quantum groups. We perform a complete calculation of the invariants for all $q$-deformations of compact, simply connected, semisimple Lie groups as well as for some non-compact quantum groups and the compact quantum groups $\operatorname{U}_F^+$. Finally we introduce a family of conditions for discrete quantum groups which for classical discrete groups are all equivalent to the fact that the group is i.c.c. We show that the above mentioned question about characterization of Kac type quantum groups by one of our invariants has a positive answer for duals of discrete quantum groups satisfying such an i.c.c.-type condition and illustrate this with the example of $\operatorname{U}_F^+$.

Abstract:We establish a noncommutative analogue of the first fundamental theorem of classical invariant theory. For each quantum group associated with a classical Lie algebra, we construct a noncommutative associative algebra whose underlying vector space forms a module for the quantum group and whose algebraic structure is preserved by the quantum group action. The subspace of invariants is shown to form a subalgebra, which is finitely generated. We determine generators of this subalgebra of invariants and determine their commutation relations. In each case considered, the noncommutative modules we construct are flat deformations of their classical commutative analogues. Our results are therefore noncommutative generalisations of the first fundamental theorem of classical invariant theory, which follows from our results by taking the limit as q -> 1. Our method similarly leads to a definition of quantum spheres, which is a noncommutative generalisation of the classical case with orthogonal quantum group symmetry.

Abstract:Given a polynomial P of partial derivatives of the Kahler metric, expressed as a linear combination of directed multigraphs, we prove a simple criterion in terms of the coefficients for P to be an invariant polynomial, i.e. invariant under the transformation of coordinates. As applications, we prove an explicit composition formula for covariant differential operators under a canonical basis, also known as invariant differential operators in the case of bounded symmetric domains. We also prove a general explicit formula of star products on Kahler manifolds.
