Abstract:This paper presents a polarization-independent, two-band graphene biosensor with a simplified design. The sensor structure includes three layers: gold, silicon dioxide, and a modified graphene layer containing the analyte. The number of absorption bands can be adjusted by changing the layer sizes and the shape of the graphene segments. By tuning the graphene's chemical potential and relaxation time, we can control the absorption quality and adjust the frequency to specific values. This sensor is highly effective for detecting viruses, proteins, and cancer cells, as well as for imaging and filtering in telecommunication applications. The modified graphene shows absorption at frequencies of 11.399 THz, 10.589 THz, and 9.778 THz with values of 98.6%, 96.7%, and 99.6%, respectively. Differences in the refractive index of elements, combined with the placement of the analyte on the sensor, cause shifts in the absorbed frequency. These shifts enable the identification of the analyte, which is the core function of the biosensor. The third absorption band shows the highest sensitivity, at 3.43 THz/RIU, making it the most suitable for biosensing applications. The sensor's simple design and polarization insensitivity are key advantages. All simulations were performed using CST software.
