Abstract:We perform, for the first time, a simultaneous global fit of the strong coupling constant $\alpha_s$ and the Collins-Soper (CS) kernel in the back-to-back limit of energy-energy correlators in $e^+ e^-$ collisions at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) accuracy. Our extracted value of $\alpha_s$ is consistent with the world average and has comparable accuracy. For the nonperturbative part of the CS kernel, we consider two different parameterizations, and the results align with those obtained from phenomenological fits of the transverse-momentum-dependent differential cross section in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan production.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to simultaneously fit the strong coupling constant \(\alpha_s\) and the Collins - Soper (CS) kernel in the back - to - back limit through the Energy - Energy Correlator (EEC) event - shape observable in electron - positron collisions (\(e^+e^-\) collisions). This is the first time such a global fit has been carried out at the N3LL (next - to - next - to - next - leading - logarithm) accuracy. Specifically, the researchers hope: 1. **Accurately determine the strong coupling constant \(\alpha_s\)**: The strong coupling constant \(\alpha_s\) is one of the most important parameters in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and describes the strength of the strong interaction. Its precise value depends on the relevant momentum scale and can be calculated using the Renormalization Group Equation (RGE). The researchers hope to extract the value of \(\alpha_s\) from EEC data and verify its consistency with the world average value. 2. **Determine the non - perturbative part of the Collins - Soper (CS) kernel**: The CS kernel plays a crucial role in understanding the evolution of transverse - momentum - dependent parton distribution functions (TMD PDFs). The researchers considered two different parameterization methods to describe the non - perturbative part of the CS kernel and compared their results with the fitting results obtained from other processes, such as semi - inclusive deep - inelastic scattering and Drell - Yan production. Through these efforts, the researchers aim to provide a cleaner observable (EEC) for high - precision QCD research and reduce the dependence on other non - perturbative components. This not only helps to better understand the fundamental properties of the strong interaction but also provides an important reference for future research.
