Abstract:We investigate the relationship between regular and decomposable Lagrangian cobordisms in $4$-dimensional symplectizations. First, we show that regular sliceness implies once-stably decomposable sliceness, and offer a stabilization-free strategy. On the other hand, we show that satelliting preserves regularity of concordance, suggesting that regularity and decomposability are distinct in general. Among other results, we compare the symplectic and smooth slice-ribbon conjectures and construct decomposably slice knots that may not be strongly decomposably slice.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore the relationship between regular Lagrangian cobordisms and decomposable Lagrangian cobordisms, especially the properties in 4 - dimensional symplectizations. Specifically, the author aims to prove the following points:
1. **Regular slices imply once - stably - decomposable slices**: The author proves that if a Legendrian knot is regularly sliced, then it is strongly decomposable - sliced after one - time stabilization. That is, if \(\mathcal{U} \prec_{\text{reg}} \Lambda\), then \(\mathcal{U}' \prec_{\text{dec}} \Lambda'\), where \(\mathcal{U}'\) and \(\Lambda'\) are the one - time stabilized forms of \(\mathcal{U}\) and \(\Lambda\) respectively.
2. **Satellite operations preserve regularity**: The author shows that the cobordisms constructed by satellite operations preserve regularity, which indicates that regularity and decomposability are different in general.
3. **Comparing symplectic and smooth slice - ribbon conjectures**: The author compares the slice - ribbon conjectures in symplectic geometry and smooth topology and discusses the relationships between these conjectures.
4. **Constructing knots that are decomposable - sliced but may not be strongly decomposable - sliced**: The author also constructs some knots that are decomposable - sliced but may not be strongly decomposable - sliced.
### Main problems
The key problems mentioned in the paper are:
- If there is a regular cobordism between two Legendrian chains, does there also exist a decomposable cobordism between them?
- That is, if \(\Lambda_- \prec_{\text{reg}} \Lambda_+\), then does \(\Lambda_- \prec_{\text{dec}} \Lambda_+\) hold?
- In particular, is every regularly - sliced Legendrian knot decomposable - sliced?
- That is, is every regularly - sliced Legendrian knot decomposable - sliced?
The core of these problems lies in understanding the differences and mutual relationships between regularity and decomposability, especially whether regular cobordisms can always be transformed into decomposable cobordisms. The author provides some answers through a series of theorems and corollaries and points out the complexity of these problems and potential research directions.
