Abstract:Let $(X, 0)$ be a normal complex surface germ embedded in $(\mathbb{C}^n, 0)$, and denote by $\mathfrak{m}$ the maximal ideal of the local ring $\mathcal{O}_{X,0}$. In this paper, we associate to each $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal $I$ of $\mathcal{O}_{X,0}$ a continuous function $\mathcal{I}_I$ defined on the set of positive (suitably normalized) semivaluations of $\mathcal{O}_{X,0}$. We prove that the function $\mathcal{I}_{\mathfrak{m}}$ is determined by the outer Lipschitz geometry of the surface $(X, 0)$. We further demonstrate that for each $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal $I$, there exists a complex surface germ $(X_I, 0)$ with an isolated singularity whose normalization is isomorphic to $(X, 0)$ and $\mathcal{I}_I = \mathcal{I}_{\mathfrak{m}_I}$, where $\mathfrak{m}_I$ is the maximal ideal of $\mathcal{O}_{X_I,0}$. Subsequently, we construct an infinite family of complex surface germs with isolated singularities, whose normalizations are isomorphic to $(X,0)$ (in particular, they are homeomorphic to $(X,0)$) but have distinct outer Lipschitz types.

Abstract:We study outer Lipschitz geometry of real semialgebraic or, more general, definable in a polynomially bounded o-minimal structure over the reals, surface germs. In particular, any definable Hölder triangle is either Lipschitz normally embedded or contains some "abnormal" arcs. We show that abnormal arcs constitute finitely many "abnormal zones" in the space of all arcs, and investigate geometric and combinatorial properties of abnormal surface germs. We establish a strong relation between geometry and combinatorics of abnormal Hölder triangles.

Abstract:We study pencils of curves on a germ of complex reduced surface . These are families of curves parametrized by having 0 as the unique common point. We prove that for , the corresponding curve of the pencil does not have the generic topology if and only if either the corresponding curve of the pulled-back pencil to the normalized surface has a non generic topology or w is a limit value for the function along the singular locus of , where f and g are generators of the pencil.

Abstract:We give a version in characteristic $p>0$ of Mumford's theorem characterizing a smooth complex germ of surface $(X,x)$ by the triviality of the topological fundamental group of $U=X\setminus \{x\}$. This note relies on discussions the authors had during the Christmas break 2009/10 in Ivry. They have been written down by Hélène in the night when Eckart died, as a despaired sign of love.

Abstract:Let $$1 \to H \to G \to Q \to 1$$ be an exact sequence where $H= \pi_1(S)$ is the fundamental group of a closed surface $S$ of genus greater than one, $G$ is hyperbolic and $Q$ is finitely generated free. The aim of this paper is to provide sufficient conditions to prove that $G$ is cubulable and construct examples satisfying these conditions. The main result may be thought of as a combination theorem for virtually special hyperbolic groups when the amalgamating subgroup is not quasiconvex. Ingredients include the theory of tracks, the quasiconvex hierarchy theorem of Wise, the distance estimates in the mapping class group from subsurface projections due to Masur-Minsky and the model geometry for doubly degenerate Kleinian surface groups used in the proof of the ending lamination theorem. An appendix to this paper by Manning, Mj, and Sageev proves a reduction theorem by showing that cubulability of $G$ follows from the existence of an essential incompressible quasiconvex track in a surface bundle over a graph with fundamental group $G$.

Abstract:Using nonstandard analysis we define a topology on the ring of germs of functions: $(mathbb R^n,0)\rightarrow(mathbb R,0)$. We prove that this topology is absolutely convex, Hausdorff, that convergent nets of continuous germs have continuous germs as limits and that, for continuous germs, ring operations and compositions are continuous. This topology is not first countable, and, in fact, we prove that no good first countable topology exists. We give a spectrum of standard working descriptions for this topology. Finally, we identify this topological ring as a generalized metric space and examine some consequences.

Abstract:A germ of normal complex analytical surface is called a Hirzebruch-Jung singularity if it is analytically isomorphic to the germ at the 0-dimensional orbit of an affine toric surface. Two such germs are known to be isomorphic if and only if the toric surfaces corresponding to them are equivariantly isomorphic. We extend this result to higher-dimensional Hirzebruch-Jung singularities, which we define to be the germs analytically isomorphic to the germ at the 0-dimensional orbit of an affine toric variety determined by a lattice and a simplicial cone of maximal dimension. We deduce a normalization algorithm for quasi-ordinary hypersurface singularities.

Abstract:We give a complete topological classification of germs of holomorphic foliations in the plane under rather generic conditions. The key point is the introduction of a new topological invariant called monodromy representation. This monodromy contains all the relevant dynamical information, in particular the projective holonomy representation whose topological invariance was conjectured in the eighties by Cerveau and Sad and proved here under mild hypotheses.

Abstract:Let f,g: (C 2 ,0) → (C,0) be two holomorphic germs with isolated singularities and no common branches and let L f , [Formula: see text] be their links. We prove that the real analytic germ [Formula: see text] has an isolated singularity at 0 if and only if the link L f ∪ -L g is fibred. This was conjectured by Rudolph in [14]. If this condition holds, then the underlying Milnor fibration is an open-book fibration of the link L f ∪ -L g which coincides with [Formula: see text] in a tubular neighbourhood of this link. This enables one to realize a large family of fibrations of plumbing links in S 3 as the Milnor fibrations of some real analytic germs [Formula: see text].

Abstract:With any non necessarily orientable unpunctured marked surface (S,M) we associate a commutative algebra, called quasi-cluster algebra, equipped with a distinguished set of generators, called quasi-cluster variables, in bijection with the set of arcs and one-sided simple closed curves in (S,M). Quasi-cluster variables are naturally gathered into possibly overlapping sets of fixed cardinality, called quasi-clusters, corresponding to maximal non-intersecting families of arcs and one-sided simple closed curves in (S,M). If the surface S is orientable, then the quasi-cluster algebra is the cluster algebra associated with the marked surface (S,M) in the sense of Fomin, Shapiro and Thurston. We classify quasi-cluster algebras with finitely many quasi-cluster variables and prove that for these quasi-cluster algebras, quasi-cluster monomials form a linear basis. Finally, we attach to (S,M) a family of discrete integrable systems satisfied by quasi-cluster variables associated to arcs in the quasi-cluster algebra and we prove that solutions of these systems can be expressed in terms of cluster variables of type A.

On Zariski multiplicity conjecture for quasihomogeneous surfaces with non-isolated singularities

Abstract:We consider a finitely determined map germ $f$ from $(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$ to $(\mathbb{C}^3,0)$. In this case, the double point curve $D(f)$ plays a fundamental role in studying the topology of the image of $f$. When $f$ is quasihomogeneous and has corank $1$, we present a characterization of the fold components of the double point curve $D(f)$. In our setting, we also consider Zariski multiplicity question for a pair of germs of (parametrized) quasihomogeneous surfaces $(\textbf{X},0)$ and $(\textbf{Y},0)$ in $(\mathbb{C}^3,0)$ with one dimensional singular set. Finally, we characterize Whitney equisingularity of an unfolding $\mathcal{F} =(f_t,t)$ of $f$ through the constancy of the Milnor number of a single plane curve in the source. This gives in some sense an answer to a question by Ruas in $1994$.

Abstract:We study the ambient Lipschitz geometry of semialgebraic surfaces. It was discovered in \cite{BBG} that ambient Lipschitz Geometry is different from the outer Lipschtz geometry. We show that two surface germs in $\mathbb{R}^3$, Lipschitz normally embedded and with isolated singularity, are ambient bi-Lipschitz equivalent if, and only if, they are outer bi-Lipschitz equivalent and ambient topologically equivalent.

We carry out a complete topological classification of smooth stable mappings of the circle and show how this classification leads, via the result mentioned above, to a topological classification of finitely determined real analytic plane-to-plane map germs.

Abstract:Closed quantum surfaces of any genus are defined as subalgebras of the Toeplitz algebra by mimicking the classical construction of identifying arcs on the boundary of the (quantum) unit disk. Isomorphism classes obtained from different arrangements of arcs are classified. It is shown that the K-groups are isomorphic to the classical counterparts and explicit generators of the C*-algebras and of the K-groups are given.

Abstract:We prove that many normal subgroups of the extended mapping class group of a surface with punctures are geometric, that is, that their automorphism groups and abstract commensurator groups are isomorphic to the extended mapping class group. In order to apply our theorem to a normal subgroup we require that the "minimal supports" of its elements satisfy a certain complexity condition that is easy to check in practice. The key ingredient is proving that the automorphism groups of many simplicial complexes associated to punctured surfaces are isomorphic to the extended mapping class group. This resolves many cases of a metaconjecture of N. V. Ivanov and extends work of Brendle-Margalit, who prove the result for surfaces without punctures.

Abstract:In this work we use our previous results on the topological classification of generic singular foliation germs on $(\mathbb C^{2},0)$ to construct complete families: after fixing the semi-local topological invariants we prove the existence of a minimal family of foliation germs that contain all the topological classes and such that any equisingular global family with parameter space an arbitrary complex manifold factorizes through it.
