Abstract:We give an abstract formulation of the Dixmier trace formula for the density of states. This recovers prior versions and allows us to provide a Dixmier trace formula for the density of states of second order elliptic differential operators on manifolds of bounded geometry satisfying a certain geometric condition. This formula gives a new perspective on Roe's index on open manifolds.

Abstract:We introduce the Density Formula for (topological) drawings of graphs in the plane or on the sphere, which relates the number of edges, vertices, crossings, and sizes of cells in the drawing. We demonstrate its capability by providing several applications: we prove tight upper bounds on the edge density of various beyond-planar graph classes, including so-called $k$-planar graphs with $k=1,2$, fan-crossing / fan-planar graphs, $k$-bend RAC-graphs with $k=0,1,2$, quasiplanar graphs, and $k^+$-real face graphs. In some cases ($1$-bend and $2$-bend RAC-graphs and fan-crossing / fan-planar graphs), we thereby obtain the first tight upper bounds on the edge density of the respective graph classes. In other cases, we give new streamlined and significantly shorter proofs for bounds that were already known in the literature. Thanks to the Density Formula, all of our proofs are mostly elementary counting and mostly circumvent the typical intricate case analysis found in earlier proofs. Further, in some cases (simple and non-homotopic quasiplanar graphs), our alternative proofs using the Density Formula lead to the first tight lower bound examples.

Abstract:In this paper we present a new formulation of the Beurling-Malliavin density (Proposition 1). Then we consider the upper Polya density and show how its existence is connected with the concept of subadditivity; moreover, by means of some quantities introduced for proving Proposition 1, a theorem is presented that clarifies the connection between the upper Polya and the Beurling-Malliavin densities. In the last section we discuss the classical definition of the upper Polya density and we prove a result which seems to be new.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a density version of the Waring-Goldbach problem. Suppose that A is a subset of the primes, and the lower density of A in the primes is larger than 1-1/2k. Abstract:The paper contains a review of known results and proofs of new results on conditions on a set in a Banach space that are necessary or sufficient for the additive semigroup to be dense in . We prove, in particular, that if is a rectifiable curve in a uniformly smooth real space , and does not lie entirely in any closed half-space, then is dense in . We present known and new results on the approximation by simple partial fractions (logarithmic derivatives of polynomials) in various spaces of functions of a complex variable. Meanwhile, some well-known theorems, in particular, Korevaar's theorem, are derived from new general results on the density of a semigroup. We also study approximation by sums of shifts of one function, which are a natural generalization of simple partial fractions. Bibliography: 79 titles.

Abstract:An extension of Szemerédi's Theorem is proved for sets of positive density in approximate lattices in general locally compact and second countable abelian groups. As a consequence, we establish a recent conjecture of Klick, Strungaru and Tcaciuc. Via a novel version of Furstenberg's Correspondence principle, which should be of independent interest, we show that our Szemerédi Theorems can be deduced from a general \emph{transverse} multiple recurrence theorem, which we establish using recent works of Austin.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to give a relatively simple proof of some known zero density estimates for Riemann zeta function which are sufficiently strong to break the density hypothesis in a nontrivial part of the critical strip. Apart from a simple but ingenious idea of Halasz the proof uses only classical knowledge about the zeta function, results known since at least hundred years.

Abstract:We prove a general zero density theorem on the Selberg class of functions. The result verifies the Density Hypothesis in the strip when the real part of the variable is at least 0.9 under the assumption that the degree of the function does not exceed 2. In the other cases we obtain a density theorem weaker than the Density Hypothesis.

Abstract:The $\kappa$-density of a cardinal $\mu\ge\kappa$ is the least cardinality of a dense collection of $\kappa$-subsets of $\mu$ and is denoted by $\mathcal D(\mu,\kappa)$. The Singular Density Hypothesis (SDH) for a singular cardinal $\mu$ of cofinality $cf\mu=\kappa$ is the equation $\mathcal D(\mu,\kappa)=\mu^+$. The Generalized Density Hypothesis (GDH) for $\mu$ and $\lambda$ such that $\lambda\le\mu$ is: $\mathcal D(\mu,\lambda)=\mu$ if $cf\mu\not=cf\lambda$ and $\mathcal D(\mu,\lambda)=\mu^+$ if $cf\mu=cf\lambda$. Density is shown to satisfy Silver's theorem. The most important case is: Theorem 2.6. If $\kappa=cf\kappa<\theta=cf\mu<\mu$ and the set of cardinals $\lambda<\mu$ of cofinality $\kappa$ that satisfy the \textsf{SDH} is stationary in $\mu$ then the SDH holds at $\mu$. A more general version is given in Theorem 2.8 A corollary of Theorem 2.6 is: Theorem 3.2 If the Singular Density Hypothesis holds for all sufficiently large singular cardinals of some fixed cofinality $\kappa$, then for all cardinals $\lambda$ with $cf\lambda \ge \kappa$, for all sufficiently large $\mu$, the GDH holds.

Abstract:Establishing inequalities among graph densities is a central pursuit in extremal combinatorics. A standard tool to certify the nonnegativity of a graph density expression is to write it as a sum of squares. In this paper, we identify a simple condition under which a graph density expression cannot be a sum of squares. Using this result, we prove that the Blakley-Roy inequality does not have a sum of squares certificate when the path length is odd. We also show that the same Blakley-Roy inequalities cannot be certified by sums of squares using a multiplier of the form one plus a sum of squares. These results answer two questions raised by Lovász. Our main tool is used again to show that the smallest open case of Sidorenko's conjectured inequality cannot be certified by a sum of squares. Finally, we show that our setup is equivalent to existing frameworks by Razborov and Lovász-Szegedy, and thus our results hold in these settings too.

A Chebotarev Density Theorem over Local Fields

Abstract:We compute the $p$-adic densities of points with a given splitting type along a (generically) finite map, analogous to the classical Chebotarev theorem over number fields and function fields. Under some mild hypotheses, we prove that these densities satisfy a functional equation in the size of the residue field. This functional equation is a direct reflection of Poincaré duality in étale cohomology. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Bhargava, Cremona, Fisher, and Gajović on factorization densities of p-adic polynomials. The key tool is the notion of admissible pairs associated to a group, which we use as an invariant of the inertia and decomposition action of a local field on the fibers of the finite map. We compute the splitting densities by Möbius inverting certain p-adic integrals along the poset of admissible pairs. The conjecture on factorization densities follows immediately for tamely ramified primes from our general results. We reduce the complete conjecture (including the wild primes) to the existence of an explicit "Tate-type" resolution of the "resultant locus" over the integers and complete the proof of the conjecture by constructing this resolution.

Abstract:Kneser's theorem in the integers asserts that denoting by $ \underline{\mathrm{d}}$ the lower asymptotic density, if $\underline{\mathrm{d}}(X_1+\cdots+X_k)<\sum_{i=1}^k\underline{\mathrm{d}}(X_i)$ then the sumset $X_1+\cdots+X_k$ is \emph{periodic} for some positive integer $q$. In this article we establish a similar statement for upper Buck density and compare it with the corresponding result due to Jin involving upper Banach density. We also provide the construction of sequences verifying counterintuitive properties with respect to Buck density of a sequence $A$ and its sumset $A+A$.

Abstract:Let $P$ be a subset of the primes of lower density strictly larger than $\frac12$. Then, every sufficiently large even integer is a sum of four primes from the set $P$. We establish similar results for $k$-summands, with $k\geq 4$, and for $k \geq 4$ distinct subsets of primes. This extends the work of H.~Li, H.~Pan, as well as X.~Shao on sums of three primes, and A.~Alsteri and X.~Shao on sums of two primes. The primary new contributions come from elementary combinatorial lemmas.

Abstract:The classical density topology is an extension of the natural topology on the real line, as the interior of arbitrary Lebesgue measurable set A is contained in the set of density points of A . Also each density point of A belongs to the closure of A for arbitrary measurable set A . In this paper, we concentrate on lower density operators for which the inclusions mentioned above are not fulfilled. In the first part, examples of such lower density operators generated by measure-preserving bijections are given. There are introduced three conditions to investigate lower density operators for which only the second inclusion holds. In the second part, the concept of operator D introduced by K. Kuratowski is applied to the characterization of such operators.

Abstract:We obtain density theorems for cuspidal automorphic representations of $\text{GL}_n$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ which fail the generalized Ramanujan conjecture at some place. We depart from previous approaches based on Kuznetsov-type trace formulae, and instead rely on $L$-function techniques. This improves recent results of Blomer near the threshold of the pointwise bounds.
