Abstract:The Bogomolov multiplier of a group is the unramified Brauer group associated to the quotient variety of a faithful representation of the group. This object is an obstruction for the quotient variety to be stably rational. The purpose of this paper is to study these multipliers associated to nilpotent pro-$p$ groups by transporting them to their associated Lie algebras. Special focus is set on the case of $p$-adic Lie groups of nilpotency class $2$, where we analyse the moduli space. This is then applied to give information on asymptotic behaviour of multipliers of finite images of such groups of exponent $p$. We show that with fixed $n$ and increasing $p$, a positive proportion of these groups of order $p^n$ have trivial multipliers. On the other hand, we show that by fixing $p$ and increasing $n$, log-generic groups of order $p^n$ have non-trivial multipliers. Whence quotient varieties of faithful representations of log-generic $p$-groups are not stably rational. Applications in non-commutative Iwasawa theory are developed.

Abstract:The paper explores the effect of powerful class of Sylow $p$-subgroups of a given finite group on control of transfer or fusion. We also find an explicit bound for the $p$-length of a $p$-solvable group in terms of the poweful class of a Sylow $p$-subgroup.

Abstract:We conduct an in-depth investigation into the structure of the Bogomolov multiplier for groups of order p 7 ( p > 2) and exponent p . We present a comprehensive classification of these groups, identifying those with nontrivial Bogomolov multipliers and distinguishing them from groups with trivial multipliers. Our analysis not only clarifies the conditions under which the Bogomolov multiplier is nontrivial but also refines existing computational methods, enhancing the process of determining these multipliers for the specified class of p -groups.

Abstract:In parallel to the classical theory of central extensions of groups, we develop a version for extensions that preserve commutativity. It is shown that the Bogomolov multiplier is a universal object parametrising such extensions of a given group. Maximal and minimal extensions are inspected, and a connection with commuting probability is explored. Such considerations produce bounds for the exponent and rank of the Bogomolov multiplier.

Abstract:The Bogomolov multiplier of a group $G$ introduced by Bogomolov in $1988$. After that in $2012$, Moravec introduced an equivalent definition of the Bogomolov multiplier. In this paper we generalized the Bogomolov multiplier with respect to a variety of groups. Then we give some new results on this topic.

Abstract:We prove that a finite group $G$ has a normal Sylow $p$-subgroup $P$ if, and only if, every irreducible character of $G$ appearing in the permutation character $({\bf 1}_P)^G$ with multiplicity coprime to $p$ has degree coprime to $p$. This confirms a prediction by Malle and Navarro from 2012. Our proof of the above result depends on a reduction to simple groups and ultimately on a combinatorial analysis of the properties of Sylow branching coefficients for symmetric groups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group and $P\in Syl_p(G)$. We denote the $k$'th term of the upper central series of $G$ by $Z_k(G)$ and the norm of $G$ by $Z^*(G)$. In this article, we prove that if for every tame intersection $P\cap Q$ such that $Z_{p-1}(P)<P\cap Q<P$, the group $N_G(P\cap Q)$ is $p$-nilpotent then $N_G(P)$ controls $p$-transfer in $G$. For $p=2$, we sharpen our results by proving if for every tame intersection $P\cap Q$ such that $Z^*(P)<P\cap Q<P$, the group $N_G(P\cap Q)$ is $p$-nilpotent then $N_G(P)$ controls $p$-transfer in $G$. We also obtain several corollaries which give sufficient conditions for $N_G(P)$ to controls $p$-transfer in $G$ as a generalization of some well known theorems, including Hall-Wielandt theorem and Frobenius normal complement theorem.

Abstract:A celebrated theorem of Helmut Wielandt shows that the nilpotent residual of the subgroup generated by two subnormal subgroups of a finite group is the subgroup generated by the nilpotent residuals of the subgroups. This result has been extended to saturated formations in Ballester‐Bolinches, Ezquerro, and Pedreza‐Aguilera [Math. Nachr. 239–240 (2002), 5–10]. Although Wielandt's result is not true in arbitrary locally finite groups, we are able to extend it (even in a stronger form) to homomorphic images of periodic linear groups. Also, all results in Ballester‐Bolinches, Ezquerro, and Pedreza‐Aguilera [Math. Nachr. 239–240 (2002), 5–10] are extended to locally finite groups, so it is possible to characterize the class of locally finite groups with a locally nilpotent derived subgroup as the largest subgroup‐closed saturated formation X such that, for all SL ‐closed saturated formations F , the F ‐residual of an X ‐group generated by F ‐subnormal subgroups is the subgroup generated by their F ‐residuals. Our proofs are based on a reduction theorem that is of an independent interest. Furthermore, we provide strengthened versions of Wielandt's result for other relevant classes of groups, among which we mention the class of paranilpotent groups. A brief discussion on the permutability of the residuals is given at the end of the paper.

Abstract:Let $G$ be the semidirect product $N \rtimes \mathbb{R}$, where $N$ is a stratified Lie group and $\mathbb{R}$ acts on $N$ via automorphic dilations. Homogeneous left-invariant sub-Laplacians on $N$ and $\mathbb{R}$ can be lifted to $G$, and their sum $\Delta$ is a left-invariant sub-Laplacian on $G$. In previous joint work of Ottazzi, Vallarino and the first-named author, a spectral multiplier theorem of Mihlin--Hörmander type was proved for $\Delta$, showing that an operator of the form $F(\Delta)$ is of weak type $(1,1)$ and bounded on $L^p(G)$ for all $p \in (1,\infty)$ provided $F$ satisfies a scale-invariant smoothness condition of order $s > (Q+1)/2$, where $Q$ is the homogeneous dimension of $N$. Here we show that, if $N$ is a group of Heisenberg type, or more generally a direct product of Métivier and abelian groups, then the smoothness condition can be pushed down to the sharp threshold $s>(d+1)/2$, where $d$ is the topological dimension of $N$. The proof is based on lifting to $G$ weighted Plancherel estimates on $N$ and exploits a relation between the functional calculi for $\Delta$ and analogous operators on semidirect extensions of Bessel--Kingman hypergroups.

Abstract:We establish an unbounded version of Stinespring's Theorem and a lifting result for Stinespring representations of completely positive modular maps defined on the space of all compact operators. We apply these results to study positivity for Schur multipliers. We characterise positive local Schur multipliers, and provide a description of positive local Schur multipliers of Toeplitz type. We introduce local operator multipliers as a non-commutative analogue of local Schur multipliers, and characterise them extending both the characterisation of operator multipliers from [16] and that of local Schur multipliers from [27]. We provide a description of the positive local operator multipliers in terms of approximation by elements of canonical positive cones.

Abstract:H. Glöckner and G. A. Willis have recently shown that locally pro-p contraction groups are nilpotent. The proof hinges on a fixed-point result: if the local field $\mathbb{F}_{p}(\!(t)\!)$ acts on its $d$-th power $\mathbb{F}_{p}(\!(t)\!)^{d}$ additively, continuously, and in an appropriately equivariant manner, then the action has a non-zero fixed point. We provide a short proof of this theorem.

Abstract:We develop an abstract framework for studying the strong form of Malle's conjecture for nilpotent groups $G$ in their regular representation. This framework is then used to prove the strong form of Malle's conjecture for any nilpotent group $G$ such that all elements of order $p$ are central, where $p$ is the smallest prime divisor of $\# G$. We also give an upper bound for any nilpotent group $G$ tight up to logarithmic factors, and tight up to a constant factor in case all elements of order $p$ pairwise commute. Finally, we give a new heuristical argument supporting Malle's conjecture in the case of nilpotent groups in their regular representation.

Abstract:There has been a great importance in understanding the nilpotent multipliers of finite groups in recent past. Let a group G be presented as the quotient of a free group F by a normal subgroup R . Given a positive integer c , the c -nilpotent multiplier of the group G is the abelian group M(c)(G)=(R∩γc+1(F))/γc+1(R,F) . In particular, M(1)(G) is the Schur multiplier of G . The study of Schur multiplier of finite metacyclic groups goes back to the paper by F. R. Beyl in 1973. In this article, we study the 2-nilpotent multiplier of finite split metacyclic groups.

Abstract:Groups with commuting inner mappings are of nilpotency class at most two, but there exist loops with commuting inner mappings and of nilpotency class higher than two, called loops of Csörgő type. In order to obtain small loops of Csörgő type, we expand our programme from `Explicit constructions of loops with commuting inner mappings', European J. Combin. 29 (2008), 1662-1681, and analyze the following setup in groups: Let $G$ be a group, $Z\le Z(G)$, and suppose that $\delta:G/Z\times G/Z\to Z$ satisfies $\delta(x,x)=1$, $\delta(x,y)=\delta(y,x)^{-1}$, $z^{yx}\delta([z,y],x) = z^{xy}\delta([z,x],y)$ for every $x$, $y$, $z\in G$, and $\delta(xy,z) = \delta(x,z)\delta(y,z)$ whenever $\{x,y,z\}\cap G'$ is not empty. Then there is $\mu:G/Z\times G/Z\to Z$ with $\delta(x,y) = \mu(x,y)\mu(y,x)^{-1}$ such that the multiplication $x*y=xy\mu(x,y)$ defines a loop with commuting inner mappings, and this loop is of Csörgő type (of nilpotency class three) if and only if $g(x,y,z) = \delta([x,y],z)\delta([y,z],x)\delta([z,x],y)$ is nontrivial. Moreover, $G$ has nilpotency class at most three, and if $g$ is nontrivial then $|G|\ge 128$, $|G|$ is even, and $g$ induces a trilinear alternating form. We describe all nontrivial setups $(G,Z,\delta)$ with $|G|=128$. This allows us to construct for the first time a loop of Csörgő type with an inner mapping group that is not elementary abelian.

Abstract:We develop the theory of nilpotent $G$-spaces and their localisations, for $G$ a compact Lie group, via reduction to the non-equivariant case using Bousfield localisation. One point of interest in the equivariant setting is that we can choose to localise or complete at different sets of primes at different fixed point spaces - and the theory works out just as well provided that you invert more primes at $K \leq G$ than at $H \leq G$, whenever $K$ is subconjugate to $H$ in $G$. We also develop the theory in an unbased context, allowing us to extend the theory to $G$-spaces which are not $G$-connected.
