Abstract:The quotient variety associated to a permutation representation of a finite group has only canonical singularities in arbitrary characteristic. Moreover, the log pair associated to such a representation is Kawamata log terminal except in characteristic two, and log canonical in arbitrary characteristic.

Abstract:We prove the precise inversion of adjunction formula for quotient singularities. As an application, we prove the semi-continuity of minimal log discrepancies for hyperquotient singularities. This paper is a continuation of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2011.07300" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.07300">arXiv:2011.07300</a>, and we generalize the previous results to non-linear group actions.

Abstract:We compute the genus-0 permutation-equivariant quantum K-theory of the singularity of the quintic polynomial, parallel to Givental--Lee's quantum K-theory of the quintic threefold. We obtain a generating function which recovers the entire 25-dimensional space of solutions to the $q$-difference equation satisfied by the permutation-equivariant K-theoretic $I$-function of the quintic.

Abstract:For given linear action of a finite group on a lattice and a positive integer q, we prove that the mod q permutation representation is a quasi-polynomial in q. Additionally, we establish several results that can be considered as mod q-analogues of results by Stapledon for equivariant Ehrhart quasi-polynomials. We also prove a reciprocity-type result for multiplicities of irreducible decompositions.

Abstract:We prove the precise inversion of adjunction formula for finite linear group quotients of complete intersection varieties defined by semi-invariant equations. As an application, we prove the semi-continuity of minimal log discrepancies for them. These results extend the results in our first paper, where we prove the same results for complete intersection varieties defined by ``invariant equations".

Abstract:We continue to study and present concrete examples in characteristic 2 of compound Du Val singularities defined over an algebraically closed field which have one dimensional singular loci but cannot be written as products (a rational double point) x (a curve) up to analytic isomorphism at any point of the loci. Unlike in other characteristics, we find a large number of such examples whose general hyperplane sections have rational double points of type D. We consider these compound Du Val singularities as a special class of canonical singularities, intend to complete classification in arbitrary characteristic reinforcing Miles Reid's result in characteristic zero.

Abstract:We give a twisted version of the Kawamata semi-positivity theorem by the $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle with a vanishing Lelong number at every point. Moreover, we apply the result for the finite generation problem of canonical rings for Birkar's generalized pairs.

Abstract:We establish a one-to-one correspondence between the singularity categories of rational double points and the simply-laced Dynkin graphs in arbitrary characteristic. This correspondence is well-known in characteristic zero since the rational double points are quotient singularities in characteristic zero whereas not necessarily in positive characteristic. Considering some rational double points are not taut in characteristic two, three or five, we can see there exist two rational double points which are not analytically isomorphic but whose singularity categories are triangulated equivalent. As an application, we construct a counter-example in positive characteristic of a theorem of Hua and Keller: the dg singularity category of a hypersurface singularity determines its Tyurina algebra.

Reductive quotients of klt singularities

Abstract:We prove that the quotient of a klt type singularity by a reductive group is of klt type. In particular, given a klt variety $X$ endowed with the action of a reductive group $G$ and admitting a quasi-projective good quotient $X\rightarrow X/\!/G$, we can find a boundary $B$ on $X/\!/G$ so that the pair $(X/\!/G,B)$ is klt. This applies for example to GIT-quotients of klt varieties. Our main result has consequences for complex spaces obtained as quotients of Hamiltonian Kähler $G$-manifolds, for collapsings of homogeneous vector bundles as introduced by Kempf, and for good moduli spaces of smooth Artin stacks. In particular, it implies that the good moduli space parametrizing $n$-dimensional K-polystable Fano manifolds of volume $v$ has klt type singularities. As a corresponding result regarding global geometry, we show that quotients of Mori Dream Spaces with klt Cox rings are Mori Dream Spaces with klt Cox ring. This in turn applies to show that projective GIT-quotients of varieties of Fano type are of Fano type; in particular, projective moduli spaces of semistable quiver representations are of Fano type.

Abstract:We classify all $n$-dimensional reduced Cohen-Macaulay modular quotient variety $\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{F}^n/C_{2p}$ and study their singularities, where $p$ is a prime number and $C_{2p}$ denotes the cyclic group of order $2p$. In particular, we present an example that demonstrates that the problem proposed by Yasuda \cite[Problem 6.6]{Yas2015} has a negative answer if the condition that $G$ is a small subgroup was dropped.

Abstract:For any complex reductive group $G$ and any compact Riemann surface with genus $g>1$, we show that every connected component of the associated character variety has symplectic singularities, and has terminal singularities unless $g=2$ and the Dynkin diagram of $G$ contains an $A_1$-component. We also show that the identity component is $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial. The singularities caused by irreducible local systems with automorphism groups larger than the centre of $G$ are controlled by elliptic endoscopy.

Abstract:We prove the finiteness of log pluricanonical representations for projective log canonical pairs with semi-ample log canonical divisor. As a corollary, we obtain that the log canonical divisor of a projective semi log canonical pair is semi-ample if and only if so is the log canonical divisor of its normalization. We also treat many other applications.

General hyperplane sections of log canonical threefolds in positive characteristic

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that if a $3$-dimensional quasi-projective variety $X$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>3$ has only log canonical singularities, then so does a general hyperplane section $H$ of $X$. We also show that the same is true for klt singularities, which is a slight extension of \cite{ST20}. In the course of the proof, we provide a sufficient condition for log canonical (resp.~klt) surface singularities to be geometrically log canonical (resp.~geometrically klt) over a field.

Abstract:Our main result is a combinatorial characterization of when a horospherical variety has (at worst) quotient singularities. Using this characterization, we show that every quasiprojective horospherical variety with quotient singularities is globally the quotient of a smooth variety by a finite abelian group.

Uniformization of varieties with log-canonical singularities

Abstract:We study the problem of uniformizing quasi-projective varieties with logcanonical compactifications. More precisely, given a complex projective variety X with log-canonical singularities, we give criteria for X to be isomorphic to a Baily-Borel-Mok compactification of a ball quotient, asking on the one hand the equality case in a suitable Miyaoka-Yau (MY) inequality, and on the other hand some adequate assumptions on the singularities. We also give as a result of independent interest that log-resolutions of log-canonical singularities have their fibers connected by chains of special varieties in the sense of Campana; this is used in the proof to control the behaviour of the period map near the exceptional divisors of such resolutions. We also show that it is necessary to assume that the singularities are at least logcanonical: some examples of Deligne-Mostow-Deraux can be manipulated to provide examples of singular varieties satisfying the equality case in MY, while not being isomorphic to such Baily-Borel-Mok compactifications.

Canonical bundle formula and degenerating families of volume forms

Abstract:General canonical bundle formula due to Kawamata and others has played fundamental roles in algebraic geometry. We show that the canonical bundle formula has analytic characterization in terms of fiberwise integration, which confirms a folklore conjecture. The proof uses $L^2$ metrics and the valuative equivalence of plurisubharmonic singularities. As an application, we identify the singularity of the Ohsawa measure from a general $L^2$ extension theorem of Demailly for log canonical pairs, in terms of the singularity in Kawamata's subadjunction. As another application, we give a partial answer to a question of Berndtsson on semipositivity theorems.

Abstract:Kamiya, Takemura, and Terao initiated the theory of the characteristic quasi-polynomial of an integral arrangement, which is a function counting the elements in the complement of the arrangement modulo positive integers. They gave a period of the characteristic quasi-polynomial, called the LCM-period, and showed that the first constituent of the characteristic quasi-polynomial coincides with the characteristic polynomial of the corresponding hyperplane arrangement. Recently, Liu, Tran, and Yoshinaga showed that the last constituent of the characteristic quasi-polynomial coincides with the characteristic polynomial of the corresponding toric arrangement. In addition, by using the theory of toric arrangements, Higashitani, Tran, and Yoshinaga proved that the LCM-period is the minimum period of the characteristic quasi-polynomial. In this paper, we study an arrangements over a Dedekind domain such that every residue ring with a nonzero ideal is finite and give algebraic generalizations of the above results.
