Abstract:Let H be a connected reductive group over an algebraically closed field. We define a surjective map from the set CS(H) of unipotent character sheaves on H (up to isomorphism) to the set of strata of H. To do this we use the generalized Springer correspondence. We also give a new parametrization of CS(H) in terms of data coming from bad characteristic. Some minor errors corrected.

Abstract:Certain Iwahori double cosets in the loop group of a reductive group, known under the names of $P$-alcoves or $(J,w,\delta)$-alcoves, play an important role in the study of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. For such an Iwahori double coset, its Newton stratification is related to the Newton stratification of an Iwahori double coset in a Levi subgroup. We show that this relation is closer than previously known.

Abstract:For a complex reductive group G acting linearly on a complex affine space V with respect to a character, we show two stratifications of V associated to this action (and a choice of invariant inner product on the Lie algebra of the maximal compact subgroup of G) coincide. The first is Hesselink's stratification by adapted 1-parameter subgroups and the second is the Morse theoretic stratification associated to the norm square of the moment map. We also give a proof of a version of the Kempf-Ness theorem which states that the GIT quotient is homeomorphic to the symplectic reduction (both taken with respect to the character). Finally, for the space of representations of a quiver of fixed dimension, we show that the Morse theoretic stratification and Hesselink's stratification coincide with the stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types.

Abstract:Given a connected, reductive $\mathbf{F}_p$-group $G$, a cocharacter $\mu \in X_*(G)$ and a smooth zip period map $\zeta:X \to \mathop{\text{$G$-{\tt Zip}}}\nolimits^{\mu}$, we study which classes in the Wedhorn-Ziegler tautological rings $T^*(X), T^*(Y)$ of $X$ and its flag space $Y \to G-ZipFlag^{\mu}$ are \textit{strata-effective}, meaning that they are non-negative rational linear combinations of pullbacks of classes of zip (flag) strata closures. Two special cases are: (1) When $X=G\text{-Zip}^{\mu}$ and the tautological rings $\T^*(X)=\text{CH}_{\mathbf{Q}}(G-Zip^{\mu})$, $T^*(Y)=\text{CH}_{\mathbf{Q}}(G-ZipFlag^{\mu})$ are the entire Chow ring, and (2) When $X$ is the special fiber of an integral canonical model of a Hodge-type Shimura variety -- in this case the strata are also known as Ekedahl-Oort strata. We focus on the strata-effectivity of three types of classes: (a) Effective tautological classes, (b) Chern classes of Griffiths-Hodge bundles and (c) Generically $w$-ordinary curves. We connect the question of strata-effectivity in (a) to the global section `Cone Conjecture' of Goldring-Koskivirta. For every representation $r$ of $G$, we conjecture that the Chern classes of the Griffiths-Hodge bundle associated to $(G, \mu,r)$ are all strata-effective. This provides a vast generalization of a result of Ekedahl-van der Geer that the Chern classes of the Hodge vector bundle on the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties $\Acal_{g,\mathbf{F}_p}$ in characteristic $p$ are represented by the closures of $p$-rank strata. We prove several instances of our conjecture

Abstract:Let G be a finite group. For each integral representation ρ of G we consider ρ-decomposable principally polarized abelian varieties; that is, principally polarized abelian varieties (X, H) with -action, of dimension equal to the degree of ρ, which admit a decomposition of the lattice for X into two G-invariant sublattices isotropic with respect to ℑH, with one of the sublattices ℤG-isomorphic to ρ. We give a construction for ρ-decomposable principally polarized abelian varieties, and show that each of them is isomorphic to a product of elliptic curves. Conversely, if ρ is absolutely irreducible, we show that each ρ-decomposable p.p.a.v. is (isomorphic to) one of those constructed above, thereby characterizing them. In the case of irreducible, reduced root systems, we consider the natural representation of its associated Weyl group, apply the preceding general construction, and characterize completely the associated families of principally polarized abelian varieties, which correspond to modular curves.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over an algebraically closed field with Weyl group $W$. The analogy between Lusztig varieties and Deligne-Lusztig varieties associated to minimal length elements in elliptic conjugacy classes of $W$ was studied by He and Lusztig. In this paper, we study the parabolic version of above varieties associated to some good braid elements for any conjugacy class of $W$. This also leads to an alternative version of Lusztig's map in general case.

Abstract:Abstract Suppose that W is a finite, unitary, reflection group acting on the complex vector space V and X is a subspace of V . Define N to be the setwise stabilizer of X in W , Z to be the pointwise stabilizer, and C = N / Z . Then restriction defines a homomorphism from the algebra of W -invariant polynomial functions on V to the algebra of C -invariant functions on X . In this note we consider the special case when W is a Coxeter group, V is the complexified reflection representation of W , and X is in the lattice of the arrangement of W , and give a simple, combinatorial characterization of when the restriction mapping is surjective in terms of the exponents of W and C . As an application of our result, in the case when W is the Weyl group of a semisimple, complex Lie algebra, we complete a calculation begun by Richardson in 1987 and obtain a simple combinatorial characterization of regular decomposition classes whose closure is a normal variety.

Abstract:Let G be a connected reductive group over an algebraically closed field and W be its Weyl group. Steinberg constructed a transversal slice of the regular unipotent orbit in G. This construction was generalized to n was generalized to unipotent orbits associated to any elliptic conjugacy classes of W by He and Lusztig via good minimal length elements. In this paper, we construct transversal slices for all unipotent orbits using the good elements in the associated braid monoid of W. As an application, we reformulate the dimension formula of affine Springer fibers using these good elements.

Abstract:The Demazure product gives a natural monoid structure on any Coxeter group. Such structure occurs naturally in many different areas in Lie Theory. This paper studies the Demazure product of an extended affine Weyl group $\tilde W$. The main discovery is a close connection between the Demazure product of an extended affine Weyl group and the quantum Bruhat graph of the finite Weyl group. As applications, we obtain explicit formulas on the generic Newton points and the Demazure products of elements in the lowest two-sided cell/shrunken Weyl chambers of $\tilde W$, and obtain an explicit formula on the Lusztig-Vogan map from the coweight lattice to the set of dominant coweights.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over $\mathbb{C}$ with Weyl group $W$. Following a suggestion of Bezrukavnikov, we define a map from two-sided cells to conjugacy classes in $W$ using the geometry of the affine flag variety. This is an affine analog of the classical story of two-sided cells of $W$, special nilpotent orbits and special representations of $W$. The proof involves studying Springer representations appearing in the cohomology of affine Springer fibers. This relies on tools developed by Yun in his papers on Global Springer theory. Our result provides evidence for a conjecture of Lusztig on strata in a connected reductive group.

Abstract:The notion of a linear Coxeter system introduced by Vinberg generalizes the geometric representation of a Coxeter group. Our main theorem asserts that if $v$ is an element of the Tits cone of a linear Coxeter system and $\cW$ is the corresponding Coxeter group, then $\cW v \subeq v - C_v,$ where $C_v$ is the convex cone generated by the coroots $\check \alpha$, for which $\alpha(v) > 0$. This implies that the convex hull of $\cW v$ is completely determined by the image of $v$ under the reflections in $\cW$. We also apply an analogous result for convex hulls of $\cW$-orbits in the dual space, although this action need not correspond to a linear Coxeter system. Motivated by the applications in representation theory, we further extend these results to Weyl group orbits of locally finite and locally affine root systems. In the locally affine case, we also derive some applications on minimizing linear functionals on Weyl group orbits.

Abstract:In this paper we propose the study of the hyperbolic cover $\tilde{W}$ of an elliptic Weyl group. For $\tilde{c}$ a Coxeter transformation in $\tilde{W}$ we prove Hurwitz transitivity of the braid group on the set of reduced reflection factorizations of $\tilde{c}$, which then enables us to establish for a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ of tubular type an order preserving bijection between the poset of thick subcategories of $\mathrm{coh}(\mathbb{X})$ generated by an exceptional sequence and the interval poset $[\mathrm{id}, \tilde{c}]$ ordered by the absolute order.

Abstract:We start the systematic study of extended Weyl groups, and continue the combinatorial description of thick subcategories in hereditary categories started by Ingalls-Thomas, Igusa-Schiffler-Thomas and Krause. We show that for a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ there exists an order preserving bijection between the thick subcategories of $\mathrm{coh}(\mathbb{X})$ generated by an exceptional sequence and a subposet of the interval poset of a Coxeter transformation $c$ in the Weyl group of a simply-laced extended root system if the Hurwitz action is transitive on the reduced reflection factorizations of $c$ that generate the Weyl group. By using combinatorial and group theoretical tools we show that this assumption on the transitivity of the Hurwitz action is fulfilled for a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ of tubular type.

The geometry of conjugation in affine Coxeter groups

Abstract:We develop new and precise geometric descriptions of the conjugacy class $[x]$ and coconjugation set $\operatorname{C}(x,x') = \{ y \in \overline{W} \mid yxy^{-1} = x' \}$ for all elements $x,x'$ of any affine Coxeter group $\overline{W}$. The centralizer of $x$ in $\overline{W}$ is the special case $\operatorname{C}(x,x)$. The key structure in our description of the conjugacy class $[x]$ is the mod-set ${Mod}_{\overline{W}}(w) = (w-\operatorname{I})R^\vee$, where~$w$ is the finite part of $x$ and $R^\vee$ is the coroot lattice. The coconjugation set $\operatorname{C}(x,x')$ is then described by ${Mod}_{\overline{W}}(w')$ together with the fix-set of $w'$, where $w'$ is the finite part of $x'$. For any element $w$ of the associated finite Weyl group $W$, the mod-set of $w$ is contained in the classical move-set ${Mov}(w) = \operatorname{Im}(w - \operatorname{I})$. We prove that the rank of ${Mod}_{\overline{W}}(w)$ equals the dimension of ${Mov}(w)$, and then further investigate type-by-type the surprisingly subtle structure of the $\mathbb{Z}$-module ${Mod}_\overline{W}(w)$. As corollaries, we determine exactly when ${Mod}_{\overline{W}}(w) = {Mov}(w) \cap R^\vee$, in which case our closed-form descriptions of conjugacy classes and coconjugation sets are as simple as possible.

Abstract:We consider the fine grading of sl(n, C) induced by tensor product of generalized Pauli matrices in the paper. Regard PGL(n, C) as the inner automorphism group of sl(n, C). Based on the classification of maximal abelian subgroups of PGL(n, C) consisting of diagonalizable automorphisms by Havlicek et al., we prove that any such subgroup K of PGL(n, C) is a symplectic abelian group and its Weyl group, which describes the symmetry of the fine grading induced by the action of K, is just the isometry group of the symplectic abelian group K. For a finite symplectic abelian group, it is also proved that its isometry group is always generated by the transvections contained in it. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics.
