Abstract:We introduce a generating function approach to the affine Brauer and Kauffman categories and show how it allows one to efficiently recover important sets of relations in these categories. We use this formalism to deduce restrictions on possible categorical actions and show how this recovers admissibility results that have appeared in the literature on cyclotomic Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) algebras and their degenerate versions, also known as cyclotomic Nazarov-Wenzl algebras or VW algebras.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to introduce the generating function method in the affine Brauer category and the affine Kauffman category in order to simplify the process of recovering important relation sets in these categories. Specifically, through this formalism, the paper deduces restrictions on possible categorical actions and shows how to recover the acceptability results in the literature regarding the cyclotomic Birman–Murakami–Wenzl (BMW) algebra and its degenerate version (also known as the cyclotomic Nazarov–Wenzl algebra or VW algebra). ### Main contributions of the paper: 1. **Introduction of the generating function method**: The paper introduces a generating function method to deal with the affine Brauer category and the affine Kauffman category. This method can effectively simplify many arguments that arise when studying the cyclotomic BMW algebra and its degenerate version. 2. **Recovery of relation sets**: Through the generating function method, the paper is able to efficiently recover important relation sets in these categories, especially those regarding dots and bubbles. 3. **Restrictions on categorical actions**: The paper uses the generating function method to deduce restrictions on possible categorical actions, which are of great significance in representation theory. 4. **Explicit formulation of acceptability conditions**: The paper gives an explicit expression to describe the "acceptability" conditions in the cyclotomic BMW algebra and its degenerate version. These conditions have been mentioned in the literature, but the paper provides a more concise and elegant formulation. ### Specific technical details: - **Definition of generating functions**: The paper defines the generating functions \(u\) and \(\tilde{u}\) and uses these functions to simplify calculations. For example, for the affine Brauer category, it is defined as: \[ u = 1+u^{- 1}+u^{-2}\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)+\cdots \] This generating function can be used to represent the situation where multiple dots are on a string. - **Relations between bubbles**: The paper deduces the relations between bubbles, for example: \[ u = -\frac{1}{2}+\left(\frac{1}{2u}+1\right) \] These relations are very important in calculations because they describe the dependence between bubbles. - **Study of module categories**: The paper also studies the module categories on the affine Brauer category and the affine Kauffman category, especially on fields with characteristic not equal to 2. The paper assumes that the module categories satisfy certain finiteness conditions and explores the properties of brick objects in these categories. ### Conclusion: By introducing the generating function method, the paper not only simplifies the process of recovering relations in the affine Brauer category and the affine Kauffman category, but also provides new tools and perspectives for the study of the cyclotomic BMW algebra and its degenerate version. These results have important application values in the study of representation theory and quantum groups.
