Abstract:In this study, we uncover the intrinsic information processes in non-Hermitian quantum systems and their thermodynamic effects. We demonstrate that these systems can exhibit negative entropy production, making them potential candidates for information engines. We also identify a key informational quantity that can characterize phase transitions beyond the reach of traditional partition functions. This work enhances our understanding of the interplay between information and thermodynamics, providing a new perspective on non-Hermitian quantum systems.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to address the problem of exploring information processes and their thermodynamic effects in non-Hermitian quantum systems. Specifically, the authors aim to reveal how these systems exhibit negative entropy production and explore their potential as information engines. Additionally, they seek to identify a key informational quantity that can characterize phase transitions not describable by traditional partition functions. Through these studies, the paper aims to deepen the understanding of the interaction between information and thermodynamics and provide new perspectives on the complex structures of non-Hermitian quantum systems. ### Main Issues and Objectives: 1. **Mechanism of Negative Entropy Production**: Investigate how non-Hermitian quantum systems can exhibit negative entropy production, which appears to violate the classical second law of thermodynamics. 2. **Construction of Information Engines**: Demonstrate how non-Hermitian systems can convert information into work through information processes, thereby constructing an information engine similar to Maxwell's demon. 3. **Characterization of Phase Transitions**: Identify a new physical quantity that can characterize phase transitions induced by non-Hermitian properties, which cannot be described by traditional partition functions. 4. **Interaction between Information and Thermodynamics**: Enhance the understanding of the role of information in thermodynamic processes, especially in non-Hermitian quantum systems. ### Research Methods: - **Theoretical Framework**: Establish the density matrix evolution equation for non-Hermitian quantum systems and derive the expression for entropy production. - **Definition of Information Flow**: Define the information flow \( J_S \) and explore its role in thermodynamic processes. - **Specific Models**: Validate the theoretical framework through a two-level quantum heat engine model and the bosonic Hatano-Nelson model. ### Main Findings: - **Negative Entropy Production**: Non-Hermitian systems can exhibit negative entropy production through information processes, similar to the effect of Maxwell's demon. - **Information Engine**: Constructed a two-level quantum heat engine model, demonstrating how non-Hermitian systems can convert information into work through information processes. - **New Physical Quantity**: Introduced a new physical quantity \( I_{NH} \), which can characterize phase transitions induced by non-Hermitian properties, not describable by traditional partition functions. ### Significance: - **Theoretical Contribution**: Established a theoretical framework for analyzing the thermodynamic processes of non-Hermitian systems, providing new tools for understanding the complex behavior of these systems. - **Practical Application**: Provided a theoretical foundation for designing new types of quantum information processing and energy conversion devices. In summary, by deeply studying the information processes and thermodynamic effects in non-Hermitian quantum systems, this paper not only expands our understanding of these systems but also provides new directions for future research and applications.
