Abstract:We study the behavior of the modular class of an orientable Poisson manifold and formulate some unimodularity criteria in the semilocal context, around a (singular) symplectic leaf. Our results generalize some known unimodularity criteria for regular Poisson manifolds related to the notion of the Reeb class. In particular, we show that the unimodularity of the transverse Poisson structure of the leaf is a necessary condition for the semilocal unimodular property. Our main tool is an explicit formula for a bigraded decomposition of modular vector fields of a coupling Poisson structure on a foliated manifold. Moreover, we also exploit the notion of the modular class of a Poisson foliation and its relationship with the Reeb class.

Abstract:The moduli space of projective structures on a compact oriented surface $\Sigma$ has a holomorphic symplectic structure, which is constructed by pulling back, using the monodromy map, the Atiyah--Bott--Goldman symplectic form on the character variety ${\rm Hom}(\pi_1(\Sigma), \text{PSL}(2, {\mathbb C}))/\!\!/\text{PSL}(2, {\mathbb C})$. We produce another construction of this symplectic form. This construction shows that the symplectic form on the moduli space is actually algebraic. Note that the monodromy map is only holomorphic and not algebraic, so the first construction does not give algebraicity of the pulled back form.

Abstract:Let X be a projective smooth holomorphic Poisson surface, in other words, whose anti-canonical divisor is effective. We show that moduli spaces of certain Bridgeland stable objects on X are smooth. Moreover, we construct Poisson structures on these moduli spaces.

Abstract:Given an affine Poisson algebra, that is singular one may ask whether there is an associated symplectic form. In the smooth case the answer is obvious: for the symplectic form to exist the Poisson tensor has to be invertible. In the singular case, however, derivations do not form a projective module and the nondegeneracy condition is more subtle. For a symplectic singularity one may naively ask if there is indeed an analogue of a symplectic form. We examine an example of a symplectic singularity, namely the double cone, and show that here such a symplectic form exists. We use the naive de Rham complex of a Lie-Rinehart algebra. Our analysis of the double cone uses Gröbner bases calculations. We also give an alternative construction of the symplectic form that generalizes to categorical quotients of cotangent lifted representations of finite groups. We use the same formulas to construct a symplectic form on the simple cone, seen as a Poisson differential space and generalize the construction to linear symplectic orbifolds. We present useful auxiliary results that enable to explicitly determine generators for the module of derivations an affine variety. The latter may be understood as a differential space.

On the moduli space of simple sheaves on singular K3 surfaces

Abstract:Mukai proved that the moduli space of simple sheaves on a smooth projective K3 surface is symplectic, and in \cite{FM2} we gave two constructions allowing one to construct new locally closed Lagrangian/isotropic subspaces of the moduli from old ones. In this paper, we extend both Mukai's result and our construction to reduced projective K3 surfaces; for the former we need to restrict our attention to perfect sheaves. There are two key points where we cannot get a straightforward generalization. In each, we need to prove that a certain differential form on the moduli space of simple, perfect sheaves vanishes, and we introduce a smoothability condition to complete the proof.

Symplectic structures on stratified pseudomanifolds

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to investigate the definition of symplectic structure on a smooth stratified pseudomanifold in the framework of local $\C^{\infty}$-ringed space theory. We introduce a sheaf-theoretic definition of symplectic form and cohomologically symplectic structure on smooth stratified pseudomanifolds. In particular, we give an indirect definition of symplectic form on the quotient space of a smooth $G$-stratified pseudomanifold. Based on the structure theorem of singular symplectic quotients by Sjamaar--Lerman, we show that the singular reduced space $M_{0}=\mu^{-1}(0)/G$ of a symplectic Hamiltonian $G$-manifold $(M,\omega,G,\mu)$ admits a natural (indirect) symplectic form and a unique cohomologically symplectic structure.

Abstract:For an abelian surface $A$, we consider stable vector bundles on a generalized Kummer variety $K_n(A)$ with $n>1$. We prove that the connected component of the moduli space which contains the tautological bundles associated to line bundles of degree $0$ is isomorphic to the blowup of the dual abelian surface in one point. We believe that this is the first explicit example of a component which is smooth with a non-trivial canonical bundle.

Compatible Poisson structures on multiplicative quiver varieties

Abstract:Any multiplicative quiver variety is endowed with a Poisson structure constructed by Van den Bergh through reduction from a Hamiltonian quasi-Poisson structure. The smooth locus carries a corresponding symplectic form defined by Yamakama through quasi-Hamiltonian reduction. In this note, we include the Poisson structure as part of a pencil of compatible Poisson structures on the multiplicative quiver variety. The pencil is defined by reduction from a pencil of Hamiltonian quasi-Poisson structures which has dimension $\ell(\ell-1)/2$, where $\ell$ is the number of arrows in the underlying quiver. For each element of the pencil, we exhibit the corresponding compatible symplectic or quasi-Hamiltonian structure. We comment on analogous constructions for character varieties and quiver varieties. This formalism is applied to the spin Ruijsenaars-Schneider phase space in order to explain the compatibility of two Poisson structures that have recently appeared in the literature.

Abstract:This work is a sequel to our previous monograph <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2010.15789" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2010.15789">arXiv:2010.15789</a> (to appear in AMS Memoirs), where we initiated our program to prove that the Bogomolov-Miyaoka-Yau inequality holds for closed, symplectic four-manifolds and, more generally, for closed, smooth four-manifolds with a Seiberg-Witten basic class. This inequality was first proved for compact, complex surfaces of general type by Miyaoka (1977) and Yau (1978). Our approach uses a version of Morse theory for a natural Hamiltonian, the square of the $L^2$ norm of the coupled spinors, for the circle action on the moduli space of non-Abelian monopoles over a closed four-manifold. It has the aim of proving the existence of a projectively anti-self-dual connection on a rank-two Hermitian vector bundle over a blow-up of the four-manifold, where the first Pontrjagin number of the vector bundle is negative and greater than or equal to minus the Euler characteristic of the blown-up four-manifold. Our Morse theory argument relies on positivity of virtual Morse-Bott indices for critical points of Hamiltonians for circle actions on complex analytic spaces (or real analytic spaces that, locally, are sufficiently well-approximated by complex analytic model spaces), as developed by the first author in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.14710" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.14710">arXiv:2206.14710</a>. In our application to the moduli space of non-Abelian monopoles, the critical points are fixed points of the circle action and thus represented by Seiberg-Witten monopoles.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth geometrically connected projective curve of genus at least 2 over a field of characteristic zero. We compute the essential dimension of the moduli stack of symplectic bundles over $X$. Unlike the case of vector bundles, we are able to precisely compute the essential dimension as the generic gerbe of the moduli stack has period 2 over it's moduli space.

Abstract:In this paper we classify all singular irreducible symplectic surfaces, i.e., compact, connected complex surfaces with canonical singularities that have a holomorphic symplectic form $\sigma$ on the smooth locus, and for which every finite quasi-étale covering has the algebra of reflexive forms spanned by the reflexive pull-back of $\sigma$. We moreover prove that the Hilbert scheme of two points on such a surface $X$ is an irreducible symplectic variety, at least in the case where the smooth locus of $X$ is simply connected.

Abstract:We show that any $(-2)$-shifted symplectic derived scheme $\textbf{X}$ (of finite type over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero) is locally equivalent to the derived intersection of two Lagrangian morphisms to a $(-1)$-shifted symplectic derived scheme which is the $(-1)$-shifted cotangent stack of a smooth classical scheme. This leads to the possibility of the following viewpoint that is, at least to us, new: any $n$-shifted symplectic derived scheme can be obtained, locally, by repeated derived Lagrangian intersections in a smooth classical scheme.

Abstract:This paper considers the moduli spaces (stacks) of parabolic bundles (parabolic logarithmic flat bundles with given spectrum, parabolic regular Higgs bundles) with rank 2 and degree 1 over $\mathbb{P}^1$ with five marked points. The foliation and stratification structures on these moduli spaces (stacks) are investigated. In particular, we confirm Simpson's conjecture for moduli space of parabolic logarithmic flat bundles with certain non-special weight system.

Abstract:We introduce the moduli space of marked, complete, Nielsen-convex hyperbolic structures on a surface of negative, but not necessarily finite, Euler characteristic. The emphasis is on infinite type surfaces, the aim being to study mapping class groups of infinite type surfaces via their action on this marked moduli space. We define a topology on the marked moduli space and prove that it reduces to the usual Teichmüller space for finite type surfaces. We also prove that the action of the mapping class group on this marked moduli space is continuous.

Abstract:The algebra of symmetric tensors $S(X):= H^0(X, \sf{S}^{\bullet} T_X)$ of a projective manifold $X$ leads to a natural dominant affinization morphism $$ \varphi_X: T^*X \longrightarrow \mathcal{Z}_X:= \text{Spec} S(X). $$ It is shown that $\varphi_X$ is birational if and only if $T_X$ is big. We prove that if $\varphi_X$ is birational, then $\mathcal{Z}_X$ is a symplectic variety endowed with the Schouten--Nijenhuis bracket if and only if $\mathbb{P} T_X$ is of Fano type, which is the case for smooth projective toric varieties, smooth horospherical varieties with small boundary and the quintic del Pezzo threefold. These give examples of a distinguished class of conical symplectic varieties, which we call symplectic orbifold cones.

Abstract:The standard Poisson structure on the rectangular matrix variety M_{m,n}(C) is investigated, via the orbits of symplectic leaves under the action of the maximal torus T of GL_{m+n}(C). These orbits, finite in number, are shown to be smooth irreducible locally closed subvarieties of M_{m,n}(C), isomorphic to intersections of dual Schubert cells in the full flag variety of GL_{m+n}(C). Three different presentations of the T-orbits of symplectic leaves in M_{m,n}(C) are obtained - (a) as pullbacks of Bruhat cells in GL_{m+n}(C) under a particular map; (b) in terms of rank conditions on rectangular submatrices; and (c) as matrix products of sets similar to double Bruhat cells in GL_m(C) and GL_n(C). In presentation (a), the orbits of leaves are parametrized by a subset of the Weyl group S_{m+n}, such that inclusions of Zariski closures correspond to the Bruhat order. Presentation (b) allows explicit calculations of orbits. From presentation (c) it follows that, up to Zariski closure, each orbit of leaves is a matrix product of one orbit with a fixed column-echelon form and one with a fixed row-echelon form. Finally, decompositions of generalized double Bruhat cells in M_{m,n}(C) (with respect to pairs of partial permutation matrices) into unions of T-orbits of symplectic leaves are obtained.

Abstract:We study the moduli stacks of slope-semistable torsion-free coherent sheaves that admit reflexive, respectively locally free, Seshadri graduations on a smooth projective variety. We show that they are open in the stack of coherent sheaves and that they admit good moduli spaces when the field characteristic is zero. In addition, in the locally free case we prove that the resulting moduli space is a quasi-projective scheme.
