Abstract:Let's fix a complex abelian scheme $\mathcal A\to S$ of relative dimension $g$, without fixed part, and having maximal variation in moduli. We show that the relative monodromy group $M^{\textrm{rel}}_\sigma$ of a ramified section $\sigma\colon S\to\mathcal A$ is nontrivial. Moreover, under some hypotheses on the action of the monodromy group $\textrm{Mon}(\mathcal A)$ we show that $M^{\textrm{rel}}_\sigma\cong \mathbb Z^{2g}$. We discuss several examples and applications. For instance we provide a new proof of Manin's kernel theorem and of the algebraic independence of the coordinates of abelian logarithms with respect to the coordinates of periods.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on the study of the relative monodromy group in abelian schemes. Specifically, the paper is concerned with whether the relative monodromy group \(M_{\text{rel}}^{\sigma}\) of a ramified section is non - trivial under certain conditions, and, under further assumptions, whether this relative monodromy group is isomorphic to \(\mathbb{Z}^{2g}\). ### Main problems 1. **Non - triviality**: - The paper proves that in an abelian scheme without a fixed part and with the modular map having maximal variation in moduli, if \(\sigma: S \to A\) is a ramified section, then its relative monodromy group \(M_{\text{rel}}^{\sigma}\) is non - trivial (i.e., not equal to zero). 2. **Determination of rank**: - Further, if the action of the monodromy group of the abelian scheme is irreducible, then the relative monodromy group \(M_{\text{rel}}^{\sigma}\) is isomorphic to \(\mathbb{Z}^{2g}\). ### Formulas and definitions - **Relative monodromy group**: \(M_{\text{rel}}^{\sigma}\) is a \(\mathbb{Z}\)-submodule, which is a submodule of \(\mathbb{Z}^{2g}\) and is used to measure the obstruction of the abelian logarithm when moving along a loop. - **Abelian logarithm**: For a section \(\sigma: S \to A\), locally, the section \(\sigma\) can be lifted to a holomorphic map \(\log \sigma: U' \to \text{Lie}(A)\) through the exponential map \(\exp: \text{Lie}(A) \to A\), which is called the abelian logarithm. - **Betti number**: The Betti map \(\beta_{\sigma}: V \to \mathbb{R}^{2g}\) is defined by expressing the abelian logarithm \(\log \sigma\) as a linear combination of the period basis. ### Applications 1. **Properties of Betti numbers**: - This theorem has a direct impact on the arithmetic properties of Betti numbers, especially on some important properties of Betti numbers. For example, if \(\sigma\) is a torsion section, then its Betti number is constant and globally defined. Vice versa, this is called a stronger version of Manin's kernel theorem. 2. **Functional transcendence steps in the Pila - Zannier method**: - Betti numbers are used in the work of Pila and Zannier for the proof of the new Manin - Mumford conjecture. In particular, in the functional transcendence steps, André's results are used, which are closely related to the study of the relative monodromy group. ### Conclusion The main contribution of the paper is to provide new results about the relative monodromy group, and these results have important applications in algebraic geometry and Diophantine geometry. By studying the relative monodromy group, the author not only proves its non - triviality but also gives the specific form of its rank, thus providing a new perspective for understanding the structure of abelian schemes.
