Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity of closed, convex surfaces which achieve maximal affine area among all the closed, convex surfaces enclosed in a given domain in the Euclidean 3-space. We prove the C 1, α regularity for general domains and C 1,1 regularity if the domain is uniformly convex.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:We extend the definition of the centroid body operator to an Orlicz--Lorentz centroid body operator on the star bodies in $\mathbb R^n$, and establish the sharp affine isoperimetric inequality that bounds (from below) the volume of the Orlicz--Lorentz centroid body of any convex body containing the origin in its interior by the volume of this convex body.

Abstract:In 1970, Schneider generalized the difference body of a convex body to higher-order, and also established the higher-order analogue of the Rogers-Shephard inequality. In this paper, we extend this idea to the projection body, centroid body, and radial mean bodies, as well as prove the associated inequalities (analogues of Zhang's projection inequality, Petty's projection inequality, the Busemann-Petty centroid inequality and Busemann's random simplex inequality). We also establish a new proof of Schneider's higher-order Rogers-Shephard inequality. As an application, a higher-order affine Sobolev inequality for functions of bounded variation is provided.

Abstract:We explore analogs of classical centro-affine invariant isoperimetric inequalities, such as the Blaschke--Santaló inequality and the $L_p$-affine isoperimetric inequalities, for convex bodies in spherical space. Specifically, we establish an isoperimetric inequality for the floating area and prove a stability result based on the spherical volume difference. The floating area has previously been studied as a natural extension of classical affine surface area to non-Euclidean convex bodies in spaces of constant curvature. In this work, we introduce the $L_p$-floating areas for spherical convex bodies, extending Lutwak's centro-affine invariant family of $L_p$-affine surface area measures from Euclidean geometry. We prove a duality formula, monotonicity properties, and isoperimetric inequalities associated with this new family of curvature measures for spherical convex bodies. Additionally, we propose a novel curvature entropy functional for spherical convex bodies, based on the $L_p$-floating area, and establish a corresponding dual isoperimetric inequality. Finally, we extend our spherical notions to space forms with non-negative constant curvature in two distinct ways. One extension asymptotically connects with centro-affine geometry on convex bodies as curvature approaches zero, while the other converges with Euclidean geometry. Notably, our newly introduced curvature entropy for spherical convex bodies emerges as a natural counterpart to both the centro-affine entropy and the Gaussian entropy of convex bodies in Euclidean space.

Abstract:Given an affine variety X and a finite dimensional vector space of regular functions L on X, we associate a convex body to (X, L) such that its volume is responsible for the number of solutions of a generic system of functions from L. This is a far reaching generalization of usual theory of Newton polytopes (which is concerned with toric varieties). As applications we give new, simple and transparent proofs of some well-known theorems in both algebraic geometry (e.g. Hodge Index Theorem) and convex geometry (e.g. Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality). Our main tools are classical Hilbert theory on degree of subvarieties of a projective space (in algebraic geometry) and Brunn-Minkowski inequality (in convex geometric).

Abstract:Barthe, Schechtman and Schmuckenschläger proved that the cube maximizes the mean width of symmetric convex bodies whose John ellipsoid (maximal volume ellipsoid contained in the body) is the Euclidean unit ball, and the regular crosspolytope minimizes the mean width of symmetric convex bodies whose Löwner ellipsoid is the Euclidean unit ball. Here we prove close to be optimal stronger stability versions of these results, together with their counterparts about the $\ell$-norm based on Gaussian integrals. We also consider related stability results for the mean width and the $\ell$-norm of the convex hull of the support of even isotropic measures on the unit sphere.

Abstract:We introduce extremal affine surface areas in a functional setting. We show their main properties. Among them are linear invariance, isoperimetric inequalities and monotonicity properties. We establish a new duality formula, which shows that the maximal (resp. minimal) inner affine surface area of an $s$-concave function on $\mathbb{R}^n$ equals the maximal (resp. minimal) outer affine surface area of its Legendre polar. We estimate the ``size" of these quantities: up to a constant depending on $n$ and $s$ only, the extremal affine surface areas are proportional to a power of the integral of $f$. This extends results obtained in the setting of convex bodies. We recover and improve those as a corollary to our results.

Abstract:We continue the study of intersection bodies of polytopes, focusing on the behavior of IP under translations of P . We introduce an affine hyperplane arrangement and show that the polynomials describing the boundary of can be extended to polynomials in variables within each region of the arrangement. In dimension 2, we give a full characterization of those polygons such that their intersection body is convex. We give a partial characterization for general dimensions.

Abstract:We consider a conjecture made by Ge, Wang and Wu regarding weighted Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for horospherically convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space (a bound, for some physically motivated weight function, of the weighted integral of the $k^{\mathrm{th}}$ mean curvature in terms of the area of the hypersurface). We prove an inequality very similar to the conjectured one. Moreover, when $k$ is zero and the ambient space has dimension three, we give a counterexample to the conjectured inequality.

Abstract:Barycenters (aka Fréchet means) were introduced in statistics in the 1940's and popularized in the fields of shape statistics and, later, in optimal transport and matrix analysis. They provide the most natural extension of linear averaging to non-Euclidean geometries, which is perhaps the most basic and widely used tool in data science. In various setups, their asymptotic properties, such as laws of large numbers and central limit theorems, have been established, but their non-asymptotic behaviour is still not well understood. In this work, we prove finite sample concentration inequalities (namely, generalizations of Hoeffding's and Bernstein's inequalities) for barycenters of i.i.d. random variables in metric spaces with non-positive curvature in Alexandrov's sense. As a byproduct, we also obtain PAC guarantees for a stochastic online algorithm that computes the barycenter of a finite collection of points in a non-positively curved space. We also discuss extensions of our results to spaces with possibly positive curvature.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive new sharp weighted Alexandrov-Fenchel and Minkowski inequalities for smooth, closed hypersurfaces under various convexity assumptions in Euclidean, spherical, and hyperbolic spaces. These inequalities extend classical results by incorporating weights given by convex, non-decreasing positive functions, which are otherwise arbitrary. Our approach gives rise to a broad family of geometric inequalities, as each convex, non-decreasing function yields a corresponding inequality, providing considerable flexibility.

The approach is based on pointwise estimates on densities of sums of independent random vectors uniform on centred Euclidean balls.
