Abstract:Let $p$ be prime and $e,k$ be positive integers, and let $R = {\mathbb Z}_p[\sqrt[e]{p}]$. We calculate the Waring numbers $g_R(k)$ for many values of $p, e$, and $k$, and investigate how the Waring numbers for $p=2$ change as $e$ and $k$ vary.

Abstract:Let $n>1$ be a positive integer. Let $R$ be a henselian local ring with residue field $k$ of $n$th level $s_n(k)$. We give some upper and lower bounds for the $n$th Waring number $w_n(R)$ in terms of $w_n(k)$ and $s_n(k)$. In large number of cases we are able to compute $w_n(R)$. Similar results for the $n$th Waring number of the total ring of fractions of $R$ are obtained. We then provide applications. In particular we compute $w_n(\mathbb{Z}_p)$ and $w_n(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ for $n\in\{3,4,5\}$ and any prime $p$.

Abstract:Abstract Let K be a cyclic number field of odd degree over $${\mathbb {Q}}$$ Q with odd narrow class number, such that 2 is inert in $$K/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K / Q . We define a family of number fields $$\{K(p)\}_p$$ { K ( p ) } p , depending on K and indexed by the rational primes p that split completely in $$K/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K / Q , in which p is always ramified of degree 2. Conditional on a standard conjecture on short character sums, the density of such rational primes p that exhibit one of two possible ramified factorizations in $$K(p)/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K ( p ) / Q is strictly between 0 and 1 and is given explicitly as a formula in terms of the degree of the extension $$K/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K / Q . Our results are unconditional in the cubic case. Our proof relies on a detailed study of the joint distribution of spins of prime ideals.

Abstract:We study the ramification of fierce cyclic Galois extensions of a local field $K$ of characteristic zero with a one-dimensional residue field of characteristic $p>0$. Using Kato's theory of the refined Swan conductor, we associate to such an extension a ramification datum, consisting of a sequence of pairs $(\delta_i,\omega_i)$, where $\delta_i$ is a positive rational number and $\omega_i$ a differential form on the residue field of $K$. Our main result gives necessary and sufficient conditions on such sequences to occur as a ramification datum of a fierce cyclic extension of $K$.

Ramification bounds via Wach modules and q-crystalline cohomology

Abstract:Let $K$ be an absolutely unramified $p$-adic field. We establish a ramification bound, depending only on the given prime $p$ and an integer $i$, for mod $p$ Galois representations associated with Wach modules of height at most $i$. Using an instance of $q$-crystalline cohomology (in its prismatic form), we thus obtain improved bounds on the ramification of $\mathrm{H}^{i}_{et}(X_{\mathbb{C}_K}, \mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z})$ for a smooth proper $p$-adic formal scheme $X$ over $\mathcal{O}_K$, for arbitrarily large degree $i$.

Abstract:Given an elliptic curve E defined over the rational numbers and a prime p at which E has good reduction, we consider the Galois deformation ring parametrizing lifts of the residual representation on the p -torsion group E [ p ]. The deformations considered are subject to the flat condition at p . For a fixed elliptic curve without complex multiplication, it is shown that these deformation rings are unobstructed for all but finitely many primes. For a fixed prime p and varying elliptic curve E , we relate the problem to the question of how often p does not divide the modular degree. Heuristics due to M.Watkins based on those of Cohen and Lenstra indicate that this proportion should be . This heuristic is supported by computations which indicate that most elliptic curves (satisfying further conditions) have smooth deformation rings at a given prime , and this proportion comes close to as p gets larger.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a complete valued field extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$ with perfect residue field. We consider $p$-adic representations of a finite product $G_{K,\Delta}=G_K^\Delta$ of the absolute Galois group $G_K$ of $K$. This product appears as the fundamental group of a product of diamonds. We develop the corresponding $p$-adic Hodge theory by constructing analogues of the classical period rings $\mathsf{B}_{\rm dR}$ and $\mathsf{B}_{\rm HT}$, and multivariable Sen theory. In particular, we associate to any $p$-adic representation $V$ of $G_{K,\Delta}$ an integrable $p$-adic differential system in several variables $\mathsf{D}_{\rm dif}(V)$. We prove that this system is trivial if and only if the representation $V$ is de Rham. Finally, we relate this differential system to the multivariable overconvergent $(\varphi,\Gamma)$-module of $V$ constructed by Pal and Zábrádi, along classical Berger's construction.

Abstract:The ramified Siegel series is an important factor that arises in the Fourier coefficient of the Siegel-Eisenstein series. Many results of the formula of the ramified Siegel series under some conditions are already known. However, the explicit formula of the general condition is not calculated. We calculate the formula of the Siegel series where the dimension $n$ is arbitrary, and the additive character $\psi$ is primitive. We calculate when the field $F$ is a non-archimedean non-dyadic local field, including $F=\mathbb{Q}_p$ case. Moreover, we calculate the explicit value of the ramified Siegel series when degree $n$ is 1, 2 and 3.

The $p$-adic limits of class numbers in $\mathbb{Z}_p$-towers

Abstract:This article discusses variants of Weber's class number problem in the spirit of arithmetic topology to connect the results of Sinnott--Kisilevsky and Kionke. Let $p$ be a prime number. We first prove the $p$-adic convergence of class numbers in a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of a global field and a similar result in a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-cover of a compact 3-manifold. Secondly, we establish an explicit formula for the $p$-adic limit of the $p$-power-th cyclic resultants of a polynomial using roots of unity of orders prime to $p$, the $p$-adic logarithm, and the Iwasawa invariants. Finally, we give thorough investigations of torus knots, twist knots, and elliptic curves; we complete the list of the cases with $p$-adic limits being in $\mathbb{Z}$ and find the cases such that the base $p$-class numbers are small and $\nu$'s are arbitrarily large.

Abstract:For a number field $k$ and an odd prime number $p$, we consider the maximal multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $\tilde{k}$ of $k$ and the unramified Iwasawa module $X(\tilde{k})$, which is the Galois group of the maximal unramified abelian $p$-extension over $\tilde{k}$. In the present article, we discus classifying CM-fields $k$ which are decomposed completely at $p$ such that $X(\tilde{k})=0$.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime and let $\mathbb{Q}_p$ be the field of $p$-adic numbers. It is known that the finite extensions of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ of a given degree are finite up to isomorphism. Given a cubic field extension $L$ of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ generated by the root of an irreducible polynomial $h$, we present a practical (closed-form) method to determine the isomorphism class in which $L$ lives, based on the coefficients of $h$. We discuss the subtleties of the wildly ramified case, when the degree of the extension coincides with $p$, the characteristic of the residue field. We also present a method for tamely ramified extensions of arbitrary prime degree.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $F/F^+$ a CM extension of a totally real field such that every place of $F^+$ above $p$ is unramified and inert in $F$. We fix a finite place $v$ of $F^+$ above $p$, and let $\overline{r}: \textrm{Gal}(\overline{F^+}/F^+) \longrightarrow {}^C\textrm{U}_{1,1}(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a modular $L$-parameter valued in the $C$-group of a rank 2 unitary group associated to $F/F^+$. We assume $\overline{r}$ is semisimple and sufficiently generic at $v$. Using recent results of Breuil--Herzig--Hu--Morra--Schraen along with our previous work, we prove that certain admissible smooth $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$-representations of the $p$-adic unitary group $\textrm{U}_{1,1}(F^+_v)$ associated to $\overline{r}$ in spaces of mod $p$ automorphic forms have Gelfand--Kirillov dimension $[F^+_v:\mathbb{Q}_p]$.

On local cohomology modules over ramified regular local rings

Abstract:In this paper, we show examples of local cohomology modules over ramified regular local ring, having finite set of associated primes. In doing so we consider our ramified regular local ring as Eisenstein extension of an unramified regular local ring sitting inside it and we use the Mayer-Vietoris spectral sequence to show the finiteness of the set of associated primes. In ramified regular local ring for extended ideal (from the unramified one) set of associative primes of a local cohomology module is always finite. Using this result, for non extended ideal, we show example of local cohomology module which has finite set of associative primes and where associative primes also contains prime number $p$.

$p$-adic $L$-functions for $P$-ordinary Hida families on unitary groups

Abstract:We construct a $p$-adic $L$-function for $P$-ordinary Hida families of cuspidal automorphic representations on a unitary group $G$. The main new idea of our work is to incorporate the theory of Schneider-Zink types for the Levi quotient of $P$, to allow for the possibility of higher ramification at primes dividing $p$, into the study of ($p$-adic) modular forms and automorphic representations on $G$. For instance, we describe the local structure of such a $P$-ordinary automorphic representation $\pi$ at $p$ using these types, allowing us to analyze the geometry of $P$-ordinary Hida families. Furthermore, these types play a crucial role in the construction of certain Siegel Eisenstein series designed to be compatible with such Hida families in two specific ways : Their Fourier coefficients can be $p$-adically interpolated into a $p$-adic Eisenstein measure on $d+1$ variables and, via the doubling method of Garrett and Piatetski--Shapiro-Rallis, the corresponding zeta integrals yield special values of standard $L$-functions. Here, $d$ is the rank of the Levi quotient of $P$. Lastly, the doubling method is reinterpreted algebraically as a pairing between modular forms on $G$, whose nebentype are types, and viewed as the evaluation of our $p$-adic $L$-function at classical points of a $P$-ordinary Hida family.

A $p$-adic arithmetic inner product formula

Abstract:Fix a prime number $p$ and let $E/F$ be a CM extension of number fields in which $p$ splits relatively. Let $\pi$ be an automorphic representation of a quasi-split unitary group of even rank with respect to $E/F$ such that $\pi$ is ordinary above $p$ with respect to the Siegel parabolic subgroup. We construct the cyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function of $\pi$, and show, under certain conditions, that if its order of vanishing at the trivial character is $1$, then the rank of the Selmer group of the Galois representation of $E$ associated with $\pi$ is at least $1$. Furthermore, under a certain modularity hypothesis, we use special cycles on unitary Shimura varieties to construct some explicit elements in the Selmer group called Selmer theta lifts; and we prove a precise formula relating their $p$-adic heights to the derivative of the $p$-adic $L$-function. In parallel to Perrin-Riou's $p$-adic analogue of the Gross--Zagier formula, our formula is the $p$-adic analogue of the arithmetic inner product formula recently established by Chao~Li and the second author.

Minimal resolutions of Iwasawa modules

Abstract:In this paper, we study the module-theoretic structure of classical Iwasawa modules. More precisely, for a finite abelian $p$-extension $K/k$ of totally real fields and the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_{\infty}/K$, we consider $X_{K_{\infty},S}={\rm Gal}(M_{K_{\infty},S}/K_{\infty})$ where $S$ is a finite set of places of $k$ containing all ramifying places in $K_{\infty}$ and archimedean places, and $M_{K_{\infty},S}$ is the maximal abelian pro-$p$-extension of $K_{\infty}$ unramified outside $S$. We give lower and upper bounds of the minimal numbers of generators and of relations of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module, using the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$. This result explains the complexity of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module when the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$ is large. Moreover, we prove an analogous theorem in the setting that $K/k$ is non-abelian. We also study the Iwasawa adjoint of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$, and the minus part of the unramified Iwasawa module for a CM-extension. In order to prove these theorems, we systematically study the minimal resolutions of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$.

Abstract:We prove that the Krull-Schmidt decomposition of the Galois module of the $p$-adic completion of algebraic units is controlled by the primes that are ramified in the Galois extension and the $S$-ideal class group. We also compute explicit upper bounds for the number of possible Galois module structures of algebraic units when the Galois group is cyclic of order $p^{2}$ or $p^{3}$.

Abstract:Let p denote an odd prime. For all p-admissible conductors c over a quadratic number field [Formula: see text], p-ring spaces V p (c) modulo c are introduced by defining a morphism ψ : f ↦ V p (f) from the divisor lattice N of positive integers to the lattice S of subspaces of the direct product V p of the p-elementary class group C/C p and unit group U/U p of K. Their properties admit an exact count of all extension fields N over K, having the dihedral group of order 2p as absolute Galois group Gal (N | Q) and sharing a common discriminant d N and conductor c over K. The number m p (d, c) of these extensions is given by a formula in terms of positions of p-ring spaces in S, whose complexity increases with the dimension of the vector space V p over the finite field F p , called the modified p-class rank σ p of K. Up to now, explicit multiplicity formulas for discriminants were known for quadratic fields with 0 ≤ σ p ≤ 1 only. Here, the results are extended to σ p = 2, underpinned by concrete numerical examples.
