Abstract:The boundary of every relatively compact Stein domain in a complex manifold of dimension at least two is connected. No assumptions on the boundary regularity are necessary. The same proofs hold also for $q$-complete domains, and in the context of almost complex manifolds as well.

Abstract:We first show that for a bounded pseudoconvex domain with a manifold quotient of finite-volume in the sense of Kahler-Einstein measure, the identity component of the automorphism group of this domain is semi-simple without compact factors. This partially answers an open question in [Fra95]. Then we apply this result in different settings to solve several open problems, for examples, (1). We prove that the automorphism group of the Griffiths domain [Gri71] in ℂ^2 is discrete. This gives a complete answer to an open question raised four decades ago. (2). We show that for a contractible HHR/USq complex manifold D with a finite-volume manifold quotient M, if D contains a one-parameter group of holomorphic automorphisms and the fundamental group of M is irreducible, then D is biholomorphic to a bounded symmetric domain. This theorem can be viewed as a finite-volume version of Nadel-Frankel's solution for the Kahzdan conjecture, which has been open for years. (3). We show that for a bounded convex domain D⊂ℂ^n of C^2-smooth boundary, if D has a finite-volume manifold quotient with an irreducible fundamental group, then D is biholomorphic to the unit ball in ℂ^n, which partially solves an old conjecture of Yau. For (2) and (3) above, if the complex dimension is equal to 2, more refined results will be provided.

Abstract:Given a complex manifold containing a relatively compact $Z(q)$ domain, we give sufficient geometric conditions on the domain so that its $L^2$-cohomology in degree $(p,q)$ (known to be finite dimensional) vanishes. The condition consists of the existence of a smooth weight function in a neighborhood of the closure of the domain, where the complex Hessian of the weight has a prescribed number of eigenvalues of a particular sign, along with good interaction at the boundary of the Levi form with the complex Hessian, encoded in a subbundle of common positive directions for the two Hermitian forms.

On regularity of $\overline\partial$-solutions on $a_q$ domains with $C^2$ boundary in complex manifolds

Abstract:We study regularity of solutions $u$ to $\overline\partial u=f$ on a relatively compact $C^2$ domain $D$ in a complex manifold of dimension $n$, where $f$ is a $(0,q)$ form. Assume that there are either $(q+1)$ negative or $(n-q)$ positive Levi eigenvalues at each point of boundary $\partial D$. Under the necessary condition that a locally $L^2$ solution exists on the domain, we show the existence of the solutions on the closure of the domain that gain $1/2$ derivative when $q=1$ and $f$ is in the Hölder-Zygmund space $\Lambda^r(\overline D)$ with $r>1$. For $q>1$, the same regularity for the solutions is achieved when $\partial D$ is either sufficiently smooth or of $(n-q)$ positive Levi eigenvalues everywhere on $\partial D$.

Abstract:Based on the equivalent definition and construction of quasicontinuous Domain, some properties on quasialgebraic Domain are studied, and its equivalent propositions are given. Thus it can be concluded that quasialgebraic Domain is quasicontinuous Domain. By means of discussing the characteristic that Scott-continuous closure operators preserve the way below relation among sets, the fact that the image of quasialgebraic Domain under these operators is still quasialgebraic Domain is proved. It is obtained that quasialgebraic Domain with Scott topology and quasialgebraic lattice with Lawson topology are respectively Baire space and Priestley space.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a complete Einstein manifold of negative curvature, and assume that (as in the AdS/CFT correspondence) it has a Penrose compactification with a conformal boundary $N$ of positive scalar curvature. We show that under these conditions, $H_n(M;Z)=0$ and in particular $N$ must be connected. These results resolve some puzzles concerning the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Abstract:With a commutative unital quantale $L$ as the truth value table, this study focuses on the representations of $L$-domains by means of $L$-closure spaces. First, the notions of interpolative generalized $L$-closure spaces and directed closed sets are introduced. It is proved that in an interpolative generalized $L$-closure space (resp., $L$-closure space), the collection of directed closed sets with respect to the inclusion $L$-order forms a continuous $L$-dcpo (resp., an algebraic $L$-dcpo). Conversely, it is shown that every continuous $L$-dcpo (resp., algebraic $L$-dcpo) can be reconstructed by an interpolative generalized $L$-closure space (resp., $L$-closure space). Second, when $L$ is integral, the notion of dense subspaces of generalized $L$-closure spaces is introduced. By means of dense subspaces, an alternative representation for algebraic $L$-dcpos is given. Moreover, the concept of $L$-approximable relations between interpolative generalized $L$-closure spaces is introduced. Consequently, a categorical equivalence between the category of interpolative generalized $L$-closure spaces (resp., $L$-closure spaces) with $L$-approximable relations and that of continuous $L$-dcpos (resp., algebraic $L$-dcpos) with Scott continuous mappings is established.

Boundary unique continuation in planar domains by conformal mapping

Abstract:Let $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^2$ be a chord arc domain. We give a simple proof of the the following fact, which is commonly known to be true: a nontrivial harmonic function which vanishes continuously on a relatively open set of the boundary cannot have the norm of the gradient which vanishes on a subset of positive surface measure (arc length). This result is conjectured to be true in higher dimensions by Lin, in Lipschitz domains. Let now $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^2$ be a $C^1$ domain with Dini mean oscillations. We prove that a nontrivial harmonic function which vanishes continuously on a relatively open subset of the boundary $\partial\Omega\cap B_1$ has a finite number of critical points in $\overline\Omega\cap B_{1/2}$. The latter improves some recent results by Kenig and Zhao. Our technique involves a conformal mapping which moves the boundary where the harmonic function vanishes into an interior nodal line of a new harmonic function, after a further reflection. Then, size estimates of the critical set - up to the boundary - of the original harmonic function can be understood in terms of estimates of the \emph{interior} critical set of the new harmonic function and of the critical set - up to the boundary - of the conformal mapping.

Abstract:We consider actions of cocompact lattices in semisimple Lie groups of the noncompact type on their boundaries $G/Q$, $Q$ a parabolic group, the so-called standard actions. We show that perturbations of the standard action in the homeomorphism group continuously factor onto the original standard action by a semi-conjugacy close to the identity. This generalizes works by Bowden, Mann, Manning and Weisman in the setting of negative curvature or Gromov hyperbolic groups. Finally, we also construct perturbations of the action of lattices on the geodesic boundary which are not $C^0$ semi-conjugate to the original action.

Topological Boundaries of Representations and Coideals

Abstract:For a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$, a (left) coideal is a (left) $\mathbb{G}$-invariant von Neumann subalgebra of $L^\infty(\mathbb{G})$. We introduce and analyze various generalizations of amenability and coamenability to coideals of discrete and compact quantum groups. We focus on a particular class of coideals found in the category of compact quantum groups, which are associated with a compact quasi-subgroup. This class includes all coideals of the quotient type. We also introduce the notion of a Furstenberg-Hamana boundary for representations of discrete quantum groups and use it to study amenability and coamenability properties of coideals. We then prove that a coideal of a compact quantum group that is associated with a compact quasi-subgroup is coamenable if and only if its codual coideal is $\mathbb{G}$-injective. If $\mathbb{G}$ is a unimodular or an exact discrete quantum group, we can replace $\mathbb{G}$-injectivity in the latter statement with the weaker condition of relative amenability. This result leads to a complete characterization of the unique trace property. Specifically, a unimodular discrete quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ has the unique trace property if and only if the action of $\mathbb{G}$ on its noncommutative Furstenberg boundary is faithful. We also demonstrated that if a unimodular discrete quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ is $C^*$-simple then it has the unique trace property. These findings are the quantum analogs of the groundbreaking results of Breuillard, Kalantar, Kennedy, and Ozawa and they provide answers to questions posted by Kalantar, Kasprzak, Skalski, and Vergnioux.

Abstract:We provide sufficient conditions as to when a boundary component of a cocompact convex set in a CAT(0)-space is contractible. We then use this to study when the limit set of a quasi-convex, codimension one subgroup of a negatively curved manifold group is `wild' in the boundary. The proof is based on a notion of coarse upper curvature bounds in terms of barycenters and the careful study of interpolation in geodesic metric spaces.

The description is given in terms of some spaces for a unit tangent vector on the boundary contour. Corresponding results for piecewise smooth domains are obtained as a consequence.

Abstract:Let $(\Gamma,\mathbb{P})$ be a relatively hyperbolic group pair that is relatively one ended. Then the Bowditch boundary of $(\Gamma,\mathbb{P})$ is locally connected. Bowditch previously established this conclusion under the additional assumption that all peripheral subgroups are finitely presented, either one or two ended, and contain no infinite torsion subgroups. We remove these restrictions; we make no restriction on the cardinality of $\Gamma$ and no restriction on the peripheral subgroups $P \in \mathbb{P}$.

Topological and Dynamic Properties of the Sublinearly Morse Boundary and the Quasi-Redirecting Boundary

Abstract:Sublinearly Morse boundaries of proper geodesic spaces are introduced by Qing, Rafi and Tiozzo. Expanding on this work, Qing and Rafi recently developed the quasi-redirecting boundary, denoted $\partial G$, to include all directions of metric spaces at infinity. Both boundaries are topological spaces that consist of equivalence classes of quasi-geodesic rays and are quasi-isometrically invariant. In this paper, we study these boundaries when the space is equipped with a geometric group action. In particular, we show that $G$ acts minimally on $\partial_\kappa G$ and that contracting elements of G induces a weak north-south dynamic on $\partial_\kappa G$. We also prove, when $\partial G$ exists and $|\partial_\kappa G|\geq3$, $G$ acts minimally on $\partial G$ and $\partial G$ is a second countable topological space. The last section concerns the restriction to proper CAT(0) spaces and finite dimensional \CAT cube complexes. We show that when $G$ acts geometrically on a finite dimensional CAT(0) cube complex (whose QR boundary is assumed to exist), then a nontrivial QR boundary implies the existence of a Morse element in $G$. Lastly, we show that if $X$ is a proper cocompact CAT(0) space, then $\partial G$ is a visibility space.

Abstract:We generalize the notion of Gromov boundary to a larger class of metric spaces beyond Gromov hyperbolic spaces. Points in this boundary are classes of quasi-geodesic rays and the space is equipped with a topology that is naturally invariant under quasi-isometries. It turns out that this boundary is compatible with other notions of boundary in many ways; it contains the sublinearly Morse boundary as a topological subspace and it matches the Bowditch boundary of relative hyperbolic spaces when the peripheral subgroups have no intrinsic hyperbolicity. We also give a complete description of the boundary of the Croke-Kleiner group where the quasi-redirecting boundary reveals a new class of QI-invariant, Morse-like quasi-geodesics.

On the lower bounds of $p$-modulus of families of paths and a finite connectedness

Abstract:We study the problem of the lower bounds of the modulus of families of paths of order $p,$ $p>n-1,$ and their connection with the geometry of domains containing the specified families. Among other things, we have proved an analogue of Näkki's theorem on the positivity of the $p$-module of families of paths joining a pair of continua in the given domain. The geometry of domains with a strongly accessible boundary in the sense of the $p$-modulus of families of paths was also studied. We show that domains with a $p$-strongly accessible boundary with respect to a $p$-modulus, $p>n-1,$ are are finitely connected at their boundary. The mentioned result generalizes Näkki's result, which was proved for uniform domains in the case of a conformal modulus.
