Abstract:In this note, we verify that the complex Kodaira dimension $\kappa^h$ equals the symplectic Kodaira dimension $\kappa^s$ for smooth 4-manifolds with complex and symplectic structures. We also calculate the Kodaira dimension for many Lefschetz fibrations.

Abstract:This paper lays the foundation for determining the Kodaira dimension of the projectivized strata of Abelian differentials with prescribed zero and pole orders in large genus. We work with the moduli space of multi-scale differentials constructed in [BCGGM2] which provides an orbifold compactification of these strata. We establish the projectivity of the moduli space of multi-scale differentials, describe the locus of canonical singularities, and compute a series of effective divisor classes. Moreover, we exhibit a perturbation of the canonical class which allows the corresponding pluri-canonical forms to extend over the locus of non-canonical singularities. As applications, we certify general type for strata with few zeros as well as for strata with equidistributed zero orders when g is sufficiently large. In particular, we show general type for the odd spin components of the minimal strata for g > 12.

Abstract:The goals of this paper are of two aspects. Firstly, we introduce the notion of generalized numerical Kodaira dimension with multiplier ideal sheaf and establish the subadditivity inequalities in terms of this notion, which can be used to give an analytic proof of O. Fujino's result on the subadditivity of the log Kodaira dimensions. Secondly, motivated by Zhou-Zhu's subadditivity of generalized Kodaira dimensions, we adopt another definition of generalized Kodaira dimension with multiplier ideal sheaf and show they are equal by using Okounkov bodies. As one application, we show that the superadditivity part in Zhou-Zhu's setting also holds true. As another application, we give an alternative proof of Zhou-Zhu's subadditivity formula, in the case when the singular metric $h_L$ has analytic singularities, by using generalized Iitaka fibrations.

Abstract:We study the Kodaira dimension of moduli spaces of polarized hyperkähler varieties deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface or to O'Grady's ten dimensional variety. This question was studied by Gritsenko-Hulek-Sankaran in the cases of $K3^{[2]}$ and OG10 type when the divisibility of the polarization is one. We generalize their results to higher dimension and divisibility. As a main result, for almost all dimensions $2n$ we provide a lower bound on the degree such that for all higher degrees, every component of the moduli space of polarized hyperkähler varieties of $K3^{[n]}$ type is of general type.

Abstract:We prove general type results for orthogonal modular varieties associated with the moduli of compact hyperkähler manifolds of deformation generalised Kummer type ('deformation generalised Kummer varieties'). In particular, we consider moduli spaces of deformation generalised Kummer fourfolds with split-polarisation of degree $2d$. Our main result is that when $d$ is prime or $2d$ is square-free then the associated modular varieties are of general type when $d$ exceeds bounds we determine, subject to the existence of certain low-weight cusp forms for $\operatorname{O}(2,n)$. As a corollary, we conclude that the corresponding moduli spaces are also of general type.

Abstract:We study the Noether-Lefschetz locus of the moduli space $\mathcal{M}$ of $K3^{[2]}$-fourfolds with a polarization of degree $2$. Following Hassett's work on cubic fourfolds, Debarre, Iliev, and Manivel have shown that the Noether-Lefschetz locus in $\mathcal{M}$ is a countable union of special divisors $\mathcal{M}_d$, where the discriminant $d$ is a positive integer congruent to $0,2,$ or $4$ modulo 8. We compute the Kodaira dimensions of these special divisors for all but finitely many discriminants; in particular, we show that for $d>224$ and for many other small values of $d$, the space $\mathcal{M}_d$ is a variety of general type.

Abstract:We prove that the moduli spaces of curves of genus 22 and 23 are of general type. To do this, we calculate certain virtual divisor classes of small slope associated to linear series of rank 6 with quadric relations. We then develop new tropical methods for studying linear series and independence of quadrics and show that these virtual classes are represented by effective divisors.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that a compact Kähler manifold M n with real analytic metric and with nonpositive sectional curvature must have its Kodaira dimension, its Ricci rank and the codimension of its Euclidean de Rham factor all equal to each other. In particular, M n is of general type if and only if it is without flat de Rham factor. By using a result of Lu and Yau, we also prove that for a compact Kähler surface M 2 with nonpositive sectional curvature, if M 2 is of general type, then it is Kobayashi hyperbolic.

Abstract:In this paper, we will prove subadditivity of Kodaira dimensions for a fibration with possibly singular geometric generic fiber, under certain nefness and relative semi-ampleness conditions. As an application, for a fibration $f: X \to Y$ of a smooth projective threefold over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>5$, under the assumption that $Y$ is of general type and non-uniruled, we prove subadditivity of Kodaira dimensions when general fibers are smooth or when $K_{X/Y}$ is relatively big over $Y$.

Abstract:We discuss Iitaka's theory of quasi-Albanese maps in details. We also give a detailed proof of Kawamata's theorem on the quasi-Albanese maps for varieties of the logarithmic Kodaira dimension zero. Note that Iitaka's theory is an application of Deligne's mixed Hodge theory for smooth algebraic varieties.

Abstract:The existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on a compact Kähler manifold hasbeen the subject of intensive study over the last few decades, following Yau'ssolution to Calabi's conjecture. The Ricci flow, introduced by Richard Hamiltonhas become one of the most powerful tools in geometric analysis. We study the Kähler-Ricci flow on minimal surfaces of Kodaira dimension oneand show that the flow collapses and converges to a unique canonical metric onits canonical model. Such a canonical is a generalized Kähler-Einsteinmetric. Combining the results of Cao, Tsuji, Tian and Zhang, we give a metricclassification for Käher surfaces with a numerical effective canonical linebundle by the Kähler-Ricci flow. In general, we propose a program of findingcanonical metrics on canonical models of projective varieties of positiveKodaira dimension.
The Kodaira dimension of even spin strata of Abelian differentials

Abstract:The even spin components of the strata of Abelian differentials are difficult to handle from a birational geometry perspective due to the fact that their spin line bundles have more sections than expected. Nevertheless, in this paper, we prove that for large genus, the minimal even spin components are of general type. This result complements the previous work by the second and third authors, together with Costantini, on the Kodaira dimension of general strata and the minimal odd spin components of Abelian differentials. Our main technical tool is the computation and estimation of a series of effective divisor classes on the even spin components.

Abstract: It is conjectured that the moduli b-divisor of the Kawamata-Kodaira canonical bundle formula associated to a klt-trivial fibration $(X,B)\to Z$ is semi-ample. In this paper, we show the semi-ampleness of an arbitrarily small perturbation of the moduli b-divisor by a fixed appropriate divisor which roughly speaking comes from a section of $K_X+B$. We apply the above result to settle a conjecture of Fujino and Gongyo: if $f\colon X\to Z$ is a smooth surjective morphism of smooth projective varieties with $-K_X$ semi-ample, then $-K_Z$ is also semi-ample. We list several counter-examples to show that this fails without the smoothness assumption on $f$.
