Abstract:By a suitable extension of incidence matrices, orbit matrices, and submatrices of orbit matrices of weakly -self-orthogonal -designs, in this paper we describe a construction of LCD codes over a finite field. To illustrate the construction, we determine some binary LCD codes from self-orthogonal -designs which are invariant under the transitive non-regular action of the alternating group of order . With the described construction, we have obtained optimal codes and near-optimal codes.

Abstract:Recently, the notions of self-orthogonal subspace codes and LCD subspace codes were introduced, and LCD subspace codes obtained from mutually unbiased weighing matrices were studied. In this paper, we provide a method of constructing self-orthogonal and LCD subspace codes from a set of matrices under certain conditions. In particular, we give constructions of self-orthogonal and LCD subspace codes from mutually quasi-unbiased weighing matrices, linked systems of symmetric designs, and linked systems of symmetric group divisible designs, Deza graphs and their equitable partitions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study self-dual and LCD codes constructed from Kneser graphs K(n, 2) and collinearity graphs of generalized quadrangles using the so-called pure and bordered construction. We determine conditions under which these codes are self-dual or LCD. Further, for the codes over Z2k, we give the conditions under which they are Type II. Moreover, we study binary and ternary self-dual and LCD codes from Kneser graphs K(n, 2) and collinearity graphs of generalized quadrangles. Furthermore, from the support designs for certain weights of some of the codes, we construct strongly regular graphs and 3-designs.

Abstract:Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes are linear codes which intersect their dual codes trivially, which have been of interest and extensively studied due to their practical applications in computational complexity and information protection. In this paper, we give some methods for constructing LCD codes over small finite fields by modifying some typical methods for constructing linear codes. We show that all odd-like binary Euclidean LCD codes, ternary Euclidean LCD codes and quaternary Hermitian LCD codes can be constructed using the modified methods. Our results improve the known lower bounds on the largest minimum distances of LCD codes. Furthermore, we give two counterexamples to disprove the conjecture proposed by Bouyuklieva (Des. Codes Cryptogr. 89 (11), 2445–2461 2021).

Abstract:A linear code is said to be self-orthogonal if it is contained in its dual. Self-orthogonal codes are of interest because of their important applications, such as for constructing linear complementary dual (LCD) codes and quantum codes. In this paper, we construct several new families of ternary self-orthogonal codes by employing weakly regular plateaued functions. Their parameters and weight distributions are completely determined. Then we apply these self-orthogonal codes to construct several new families of ternary LCD codes. As a consequence, we obtain many (almost) optimal ternary self-orthogonal codes and LCD codes.

Abstract:LCD codes and (almost) optimally extendable codes can be used to safeguard against fault injection attacks (FIA) and side-channel attacks (SCA) in the implementations of block ciphers. The first objective of this paper is to use a family of binary self-orthogonal codes given by Ding and Tang (Cryptogr Commun 12:1011–1033, 2020) to construct a family of binary LCD codes with new parameters. The parameters of the binary LCD codes and their duals are explicitly determined. It turns out that the codes by Ding and Tang are almost optimally extendable codes. The second objective is to prove that two families of known q -ary linear codes given by Heng et al. (IEEE Trans Inf Theory 66(11):6872–6883, 2020) are self-orthogonal. Using these two families of self-orthogonal codes, we construct another two families of q -ary LCD codes. The parameters of the LCD codes are determined and many optimal codes are produced. Besides, the two known families of q -ary linear codes are also proved to be almost optimally extendable codes.

Abstract:Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes can provide an optimum linear coding solution for the two-user binary adder channel. LCD codes also can be used to against side-channel attacks and fault non-invasive attacks. Let $d_{LCD}(n, k)$ denote the maximum value of $d$ for which a binary $[n,k, d]$ LCD code exists. In \cite{BS21}, Bouyuklieva conjectured that $d_{LCD}(n+1, k)=d_{LCD}(n, k)$ or $d_{LCD}(n, k) + 1$ for any lenth $n$ and dimension $k \ge 2$. In this paper, we first prove Bouyuklieva's conjecture \cite{BS21} by constructing a binary $[n,k,d-1]$ LCD codes from a binary $[n+1,k,d]$ $LCD_{o,e}$ code, when $d \ge 3$ and $k \ge 2$. Then we provide a distance lower bound for binary LCD codes by expanded codes, and use this bound and some methods such as puncturing, shortening, expanding and extension, we construct some new binary LCD codes. Finally, we improve some previously known values of $d_{LCD}(n, k)$ of lengths $38 \le n \le 40$ and dimensions $9 \le k \le 15$. We also obtain some values of $d_{LCD}(n, k)$ with $41 \le n \le 50$ and $6 \le k \le n-6$.

Abstract:Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes over finite fields are linear codes satisfying $C\cap C^{\perp}=\{0\}$. We generalize the LCD codes over finite fields to $\mathbb{Z}_2\mathbb{Z}_2[u]$-LCD codes over the ring $\mathbf{Z}_2\times(\mathbf{Z}_2+u\mathbf{Z}_2)$. Under suitable conditions, $\mathbb{Z}_2\mathbb{Z}_2[u]$-linear codes that are $\mathbb{Z}_2\mathbb{Z}_2[u]$-LCD codes are characterized. We then prove that the binary image of a $\mathbb{Z}_2\mathbb{Z}_2[u]$-LCD code is a binary LCD code. Finally, by means of these conditions, we construct new binary LCD codes using $\mathbb{Z}_2\mathbb{Z}_2[u]$-LCD codes, most of which have better parameters than current binary LCD codes available.

Abstract:Let $t \in \{2,8,10,12,14,16,18\}$ and $n=31s+t\geq 14$, $d_{a}(n,5)$ and $d_{l}(n,5)$ be distances of binary $[n,5]$ optimal linear codes and optimal linear complementary dual (LCD) codes, respectively. We show that an $[n,5,d_{a}(n,5)]$ optimal linear code is not an LCD code, there is an $[n,5,d_{l}(n,5)]=[n,5,d_{a}(n,5)-1]$ optimal LCD code if $t\neq 16$, and an optimal $[n,5,d_{l}(n,5)]$ optimal LCD code has $d_{l}(n,5)=16s+6=d_{a}(n,5)-2$ for $t=16$. Combined with known results on optimal LCD code, $d_{l}(n,5)$ of all $[n,5]$ LCD codes are completely determined.

In this paper, we prove that non-free LCD codes do not exist over and obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of LCD codes over . Later, we investigate free LCD cyclic codes of odd lengths over and find a relation between free LCD cyclic codes of odd lengths and reversible codes of odd lengths over . We prove that free LCD cyclic codes of length , a positive integer k , do not exist, and also establish a condition for the existence of free LCD cyclic codes of lengths for a positive integer m with . Finally, we present some good parameters of LCD codes that we obtained.

Abstract:Linear complementary pairs (LCP) of codes play an important role in armoring implementations against side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks. One of the most common ways to construct LCP of codes is to use Euclidean linear complementary dual (LCD) codes. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of linear codes with $\sigma$ complementary dual ($\sigma$-LCD), which includes known Euclidean LCD codes, Hermitian LCD codes, and Galois LCD codes. As Euclidean LCD codes, $\sigma$-LCD codes can also be used to construct LCP of codes. We show that, for $q > 2$, all q-ary linear codes are $\sigma$-LCD and that, for every binary linear code $\mathcal C$, the code $\{0\}\times \mathcal C$ is $\sigma$-LCD. Further, we study deeply $\sigma$-LCD generalized quasi-cyclic (GQC) codes. In particular, we provide characterizations of $\sigma$-LCD GQC codes, self-orthogonal GQC codes and self-dual GQC codes, respectively. Moreover, we provide constructions of asymptotically good $\sigma$-LCD GQC codes. Finally, we focus on $\sigma$-LCD Abelian codes and prove that all Abelian codes in a semi-simple group algebra are $\sigma$-LCD. The results derived in this paper extend those on the classical LCD codes and show that $\sigma$-LCD codes allow the construction of LCP of codes more easily and with more flexibility.

Symplectic self-orthogonal and LCD codes from the Plotkin sum construction

Abstract:In this work, we propose two criteria for linear codes obtained from the Plotkin sum construction being symplectic self-orthogonal (SO) and linear complementary dual (LCD). As specific constructions, several classes of symplectic SO codes with good parameters including symplectic maximum distance separable codes are derived via $\ell$-intersection pairs of linear codes and generalized Reed-Muller codes. Also symplectic LCD codes are constructed from general linear codes. Furthermore, we obtain some binary symplectic LCD codes, which are equivalent to quaternary trace Hermitian additive complementary dual codes that outperform best-known quaternary Hermitian LCD codes reported in the literature. In addition, we prove that symplectic SO and LCD codes obtained in these ways are asymptotically good.

Abstract:In this article, we introduce new scalar products over finite rings via additive isomorphisms. This allows us to define new notions of right (respectively left) orthogonal codes, that are not necessarily linear. This leads to definitions of right (resp. left) dual codes and left LCD codes similar to the classical LCD codes. Abstract:An anticode ${\bf C} \subset {\bf F}_q^n$ with the diameter $\delta$ is a code in ${\bf F}_q^n$ such that the distance between any two distinct codewords in ${\bf C}$ is at most $\delta$. The famous Erdös-Kleitman bound for a binary anticode ${\bf C}$ of the length $n$ and the diameter $\delta$ asserts that $$|{\bf C}| \leq \Sigma_{i=0}^{\frac{\delta}{2}} \displaystyle{n \choose i}.$$ In this paper, we give an antiGriesmer bound for $q$-ary projective linear anticodes, which is stronger than the above Erdös-Kleitman bound for binary anticodes. The antiGriesmer bound is a lower bound on diameters of projective linear anticodes. From some known projective linear anticodes, we construct some linear codes with optimal or near optimal minimum distances. A complementary theorem constructing infinitely many new projective linear $(t+1)$-weight code from a known $t$-weight linear code is presented. Then many new optimal or almost optimal few-weight linear codes are given and their weight distributions are determined. As a by-product, we also construct several infinite families of three-weight binary linear codes, which lead to $l$-strongly regular graphs for each odd integer $l \geq 3$.
