Abstract:The Inozemtsev chain is an exactly solvable interpolation between the short-range Heisenberg and long-range Haldane-Shastry (HS) chains. In order to unlock its potential to study spin interactions with tunable interaction range using the powerful tools of integrability, the model's mathematical properties require better understanding. As a major step in this direction, we present a new generalisation of the Inozemtsev chain with spin symmetry reduced to U(1), interpolating between a Heisenberg xxz chain and the xxz-type HS chain, and integrable throughout. Underlying it is a new quantum many-body system that extends the elliptic Ruijsenaars system by including spins, contains the trigonometric spin-Ruijsenaars-Macdonald system as a special case, and yields our spin chain by 'freezing'. Our models have potential applications from condensed-matter to high-energy theory, and provide a crucial step towards a general theory for long-range integrability.

Abstract:There is a widespread perception that dynamical evolution of integrable systems should be simpler in a quantifiable sense than the evolution of generic systems, though demonstrating this relation between integrability and reduced complexity in practice has remained elusive. We provide a connection of this sort by constructing a specific matrix in terms of the eigenvectors of a given quantum Hamiltonian. The null eigenvalues of this matrix are in one-to-one correspondence with conserved quantities that have simple locality properties (a hallmark of integrability). The typical magnitude of the eigenvalues, on the other hand, controls an explicit bound on Nielsen’s complexity of the quantum evolution operator, defined in terms of the same locality specifications. We demonstrate how this connection works in a few concrete examples of quantum spin chains that possess diverse arrays of highly structured conservation laws mandated by integrability.

Abstract:In this paper we discuss a family of models of particle and energy diffusion on a one-dimensional lattice, related to those studied previously in [Sasamoto-Wadati], [Barraquand-Corwin] and [Povolotsky] in the context of KPZ universality class. We show that they may be mapped onto an integrable $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ Heisenberg spin chain whose Hamiltonian density in the bulk has been already studied in the AdS/CFT and the integrable system literature. Using the quantum inverse scattering method, we study various new aspects, in particular we identify boundary terms, modeling reservoirs in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics models, for which the spin chain (and thus also the stochastic process) continues to be integrable. We also show how the construction of a "dual model" of probability theory is possible and useful. The fluctuating hydrodynamics of our stochastic model corresponds to the semiclassical evolution of a string that derives from correlation functions of local gauge invariant operators of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory (SYM), in imaginary-time. As any stochastic system, it has a supersymmetric completion that encodes for the thermal equilibrium theorems: we show that in this case it is equivalent to the $\mathfrak{sl}(2|1)$ superstring that has been derived directly from $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM.

Abstract:A new non-local integrable chain with continuous time and discrete space variable is considered. In contrast to the case of Toda and Volterra chains, the general solution can be presented in explicit form in terms of two arbitrary sequences. It is shown that this solution is connected with the so-called Uvarov-Chihara problem (inserting a discrete mass at the centre of the spectral interval of symmetric orthogonal polynomials). The asymptotic behaviour of the recurrence coefficients of such polynomials is considered.

Abstract:A bstract The Motzkin spin chain is a spin-1 frustration-free model introduced by Shor & Movassagh. The ground state is constructed by mapping random walks on the upper half of the square lattice to spin configurations. It has unusually large entanglement entropy [quantum fluctuations]. The ground state of the Motzkin chain can be analytically described by the Motzkin paths. There is no analytical description of the excited states. The model is not solvable. We simplify the model by removing one of the local equivalence moves of the Motzkin paths. The system becomes integrable [similar to the XXX spin chain]. We call it free Motzkin chain. From the point of view of quantum integrability, the model is special since its R -matrix does not have crossing unitarity. We solve the periodic free Motzkin chain by generalizing the functional Bethe Ansatz method. We construct a T − Q relation with an additional parameter to formulate the energy spectrum. This new parameter is related to the roots of unity and can be described by the Möbius function in number theory. We observe further patterns of number theory.
Landscapes of integrable long-range spin chains

Abstract:We clarify how the elliptic integrable spin chain recently found by Matushko and Zotov (MZ) relates to various other known long-range spin chains. The limit $q\to1$ gives the elliptic spin chain of Sechin and Zotov (SZ), whose trigonometric case is due to Fukui and Kawakami. At finite size, only the latter is U(1)-symmetric. We compare the resulting (vertex-type) landscape of the MZ chain with the (face-type) landscape containing the Heisenberg XXX and Haldane--Shastry (HS) chains, as well as the Inozemtsev chain and its recent q-deformation. We find that the two landscapes only share a single point: the rational HS chain. Using wrapping we show that the SZ chain is the anti-periodic version of the Inozemtsev chain in a precise sense, and expand both chains around their nearest-neighbour limits to facilitate their interpretations as long-range deformations.

Abstract:We construct new families of spin chain Hamiltonians that are local, integrable and translationally invariant. To do so, we make use of the Clifford group that arises in quantum information theory. We consider translation invariant Clifford group transformations that can be described by matrix product operators (MPOs). We classify the translation invariant Clifford group transformations that consist of a shift operator and an MPO of bond dimension two -- this includes transformations that preserve locality of all Hamiltonians; as well as those that lead to non-local images of particular operators but nevertheless preserve locality of certain Hamiltonians. We characterise the translation invariant Clifford group transformations that take single-site Pauli operators to local operators on at most five sites -- examples of Quantum Cellular Automata -- leading to a discrete family of Hamiltonians that are equivalent to the canonical XXZ model under such transformations. For spin chains solvable by algebraic Bethe Ansatz, we explain how conjugating by a matrix product operator affects the underlying integrable structure. This allows us to relate our results to the usual classifications of integrable Hamiltonians. We also treat the case of spin chains solvable by free fermions.

Partial yet definite emergence of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang class in isotropic spin chains

Abstract:Integrable spin chains with a continuous non-Abelian symmetry, such as the one-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg model, show superdiffusive transport with little theoretical understanding. Although recent studies reported a surprising connection to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class in that case, this view was most recently questioned by discrepancies in full counting statistics. Here, by combining extensive numerical simulations of classical and quantum integrable isotropic spin chains with a framework developed by exact studies of the KPZ class, we characterize various two-point quantities that remain hitherto unexplored in spin chains, and find full agreement with KPZ scaling laws without adjustable parameters. This establishes the partial emergence of the KPZ class in integrable isotropic spin chains. Moreover, we reveal that the KPZ scaling laws are intact in the presence of an energy current, under the appropriate Galilean boost required by the propagation of spacetime correlation.

Integrability and Non-Invertible Symmetries of Projector Spin Chains

Abstract:We show that nearest-neighbor spin chains composed of projectors to 2-qudit product states are integrable. The $R$-matrices (with a multidimensional spectral parameter) include additive as well as non-additive parameters. They satisfy the colored Yang-Baxter equation. The local terms of the resulting Hamiltonians exhaust projectors with all possible ranks for a 2-qudit space. The Hamiltonian can be Hermitian or not, with or without frustration. The ground state structures of the frustration-free qubit spin chains are analysed. These systems have either global or local non-invertible symmetries. In particular, the rank 1 case has two product ground states that break global non-invertible symmetries (analogous to the case of the two ferromagnetic states breaking the global $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry of the $XXX$ spin chain). The Bravyi-Gosset conditions for spectral gaps show that these systems are gapped. The associated Yang-Baxter algebra and the spectrum of the transfer matrix are also studied.

Abstract:With the XXZ spin chains as examples, we prove two theorems: (1) the functional relations derived from the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz scheme are the sufficient and necessary conditions to characterize the complete spectrum of the corresponding transfer matrix; (2) each eigenvalue of the transfer matrix can be parameterized by a minimal inhomogeneous T-Q relation. These statements hold for both with and without inhomogeneity. The proof can be generalized to other finite-dimensional quantum integrable models.

Abstract:The subject matter of this work is a 1D quantum spin - $\frac{1}{2}$ chain associated with the inhomogeneous six-vertex model possessing an additional ${\cal Z}_r$ symmetry. The model is studied in a certain parametric domain, where it is critical. Within the ODE/IQFT approach, a class of ordinary differential equations and a quantization condition are proposed which describe the scaling limit of the system. Some remarkable features of the CFT underlying the critical behaviour are observed. Among them is an infinite degeneracy of the conformal primary states and the presence of a continuous component in the spectrum in the case of even $r$.

Abstract:We study a spin chain for a confining string that arises at first order in degenerate perturbation from the strong-coupling expansion of the Kogut-Susskind Hamiltonian on a square lattice in the leading large $N$ expansion. We show some subsectors are integrable and that with a relaxed constraint related to zigzag symmetry, the full spin chain is integrable in arbitrary dimensions.

Abstract:We perform a systematic exact algebraic search for integrable spin-S chains which are isotropic in spin space, i.e. are su(2)-invariant. The families of spin chains found for S < 14 support recent arguments in favour of the complete classification of all such integrable chains. The integrable families of spin chains are discussed in the light of the conjectured spin-dependent properties of the Heisenberg chain.

Abstract:Recently, properties of collective states of interacting non-Abelian anyons have attracted considerable attention. We study an extension of the “golden chain model,” where two- and three-body interactions are competing. Upon fine tuning the interaction, the model is integrable. This provides an additional integrable point of the model, on top of the integrable point, when the three-body interaction is absent. To solve the model, we construct a new, integrable height model, in the spirit of the restricted solid-on-solid model solved by Andrews et al. [J. Stat. Phys. 35, 193 (1984)JSTPBS0022-471510.1007/BF01014383]. The heights in our model live on both the sites and links of the square lattice. The model is solved by means of the corner transfer matrix method. We find a connection between local height probabilities and characters of a conformal field theory governing the critical properties at the integrable point. In the antiferromagnetic regime, the criticality is described by the Zk parafermion conformal field theory, while the su(2)1×su(2)1×su(2)k−2su(2)k coset conformal field theory describes the ferromagnetic regime.

Abstract:We consider the Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin chain equation, which is governed by the (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger-type equation. Based on the Ablowitz–Kaup–Newell–Segur frame, we study the integrability of the equation by deriving its Lax pair and infinite conservation laws. By introducing a potential transformation, we obtain its Hirota bilinear form and soliton solutions. Based on the resulting lax pair, we construct Darboux transformation and multi-soliton solutions of the equation. Furthermore, we also find the other type of soliton solutions for the equation by considering its Bäcklund transformation. Finally, we discuss the linear stability analysis by considering its stability condition for the stationary solution of the equation, which can be used to analyze modulation instability. The technique presented in this work is analytical, which can be used to enrich the dynamical of the Heisenberg ferromagnetic spin chain equation.

Complete Classification of Integrability and Non-integrability for Spin-1/2 Chain with Symmetric Nearest-Neighbor Interaction

Abstract:General spin-1/2 chains with symmetric nearest-neighbor interaction are studied. We rigorously prove that all spin models in this class, except for known integrable systems, are non-integrable in the sense that they possess no nontrivial local conserved quantities. This result confirms that there are no missing integrable systems, i.e., integrable systems in this class are exactly those that are already known. In addition, this result excludes the possibility of intermediate systems which have a finite number of nontrivial local conserved quantities. Our findings support the expectation that integrable systems are exceptional in quantum many-body systems and most systems are non-integrable.

Abstract:For integrable inhomogeneous supersymmetric spin chains (generalized graded magnets) constructed employing Y(gl(N|M))-invariant R-matrices in finite-dimensional representations we introduce the master T-operator which is a sort of generating function for the family of commuting quantum transfer matrices. Any eigenvalue of the master T-operator is the tau-function of the classical mKP hierarchy. It is a polynomial in the spectral parameter which is identified with the 0-th time of the hierarchy. This implies a remarkable relation between the quantum supersymmetric spin chains and classical many-body integrable systems of particles of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider type. As an outcome, we obtain a system of algebraic equations for the spectrum of the spin chain Hamiltonians.
