Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity of closed, convex surfaces which achieve maximal affine area among all the closed, convex surfaces enclosed in a given domain in the Euclidean 3-space. We prove the C 1, α regularity for general domains and C 1,1 regularity if the domain is uniformly convex.

Abstract:In this paper we report our investigations on visibility with respect to the Kobayashi distance and its applications, with a special focus on planar domains. We prove that totally disconnected subsets of the boundary are removable in the context of visibility. We also show that a domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$ is a local weak visibility domain if and only if it is a weak visibility domain. The above holds also for visibility. Along the way, we prove an intrinsic localization result for the Kobayashi distance. Moreover, we observe some interesting consequences of weak visibility; for example, weak visibility implies compactness of the end topology of the closure of the domain. For planar domains: (i) We provide examples of visibility domains that are not locally Goldilocks at any boundary point. (ii) We provide certain general conditions on planar domains that yield the continuous extension of conformal maps, generalizing the Carathéodory extension theorem. Our conditions are quite general and assume very little regularity of the boundary. We demonstrate this through examples. (iii) We also provide conditions for the homeomorphic extension of biholomorphic maps up to the boundary. (iv) We prove that a hyperbolic, simply connected domain possesses the visibility property if and only if its boundary is locally connected. This leads us to reformulate the MLC conjecture in terms of visibility. (v) We provide a characterization of visibility for a large class of planar domains including certain uncountably connected domains.

Abstract:In this article, we initiate the study of visibility property in the context of quasihyperbolic metric. Let $\Omega$ be a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\partial_{Euc}\Omega$ be its Euclidean boundary. We say that the pair $\{p,q\}\subset\partial_{Euc}\Omega$ has visible quasihyperbolic geodesic if there exist open neighborhoods $U_p$ of $p$ and $U_q$ of $q$ and a compact set $K_{\{p,q\}}\subset \Omega$ such that for any quasihyperbolic geodesic which joins points in $U_p$ and $U_q$ intersects with $K$. If a domain has visible quasihyperbolic geodesic for every pair of points, we say that it is a visibility domain. The major part of this paper is devoted to provide a rich collection of visibility domains. In this direction we provide a general visibility criteria for a domain to be a visibility domain, and using this we obtain the visibility of Uniform domains, John domains and domains satisfying quasihyperbolic boundary conditions. We also study the visibility of bounded hyperbolic domains with respect to hyperbolic and quasihyperbolic metric. Further, we explore the relation between Gromov hyperbolicity and visibility. As an application of visibility we prove a sufficient condition for the continuous extension of quasihyperbolic isometries and quasi-isometries. Further, motivated by the work of Bharali and Zimmer [{\it Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. (2022)}] and using the end compactification we define the visibility of unbounded domains and study its relationship with Gromov hyperbolicity. Finally, we provide some useful examples of visibility domains which are neither John domain nor domains satisfying quasihyperbolic boundary conditions.

Abstract:We consider the question of whether a domain with uniformly thick boundary at all locations and at all scales has a large portion of its boundary visible from the interior; here, "visibility" indicates the existence of John curves connecting the interior point to the points on the "visible boundary". In this paper, we provide an affirmative answer in the setting of a doubling metric measure space supporting a $p$-Poincaré inequality for $1<p<\infty$, thus extending the results of [20,2,9] to non-Ahlfors regular spaces. We show that $t$-codimensional thickness of the boundary for $0<t<p$ implies $p$-codimensional thickness of the visible boundary. For such domains we prove that traces of Sobolev functions on the domain belong to the Besov class of the visible boundary.

Abstract:We answer a question asked recently by Banik in the negative by showing that for each $n\geq 2$, there exists a taut visibility domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$ that is not Kobayashi complete. The domains that we produce are bounded and have boundaries that are very regular away from a single point.

Abstract:We give an explicit lower bound, in terms of the distance from the boundary, for the Kobayashi metric of a certain class of bounded pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$ with $\mathcal{C}^2$-smooth boundary using the regularity theory for the complex Monge--Ampere equation. Using such an estimate, we construct a family of unbounded Kobayashi hyperbolic domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$ having a certain negative-curvature-type property with respect to the Kobayashi distance. As an application, we prove a Picard-type extension theorem for the latter domains.

Abstract:In this article, we study notions of visibility with respect to the Kobayashi distance for relatively compact complex submanifolds in Euclidean spaces. We present a sufficient condition for a domain to possess the visibility property relative to Kobayashi almost-geodesics introduced by Bharali--Zimmer (we call this simply the visibility property). As an application, we produce new classes of domains having this kind of visibility. Next, we introduce and study the notion of visibility subspaces of relatively compact complex submanifolds. Using this notion, we generalize to such submanifolds a recent result of Bracci--Nikolov--Thomas. The utility of this generalization is demonstrated by proving a theorem on the continuous extension of Kobayashi isometries. Finally, we prove a Wolff--Denjoy-type theorem that is a generalization of recent results of this kind by Bharali--Zimmer and Bharali--Maitra and that, owing to the new classes of domains mentioned, is a proper generalization. Along the way, we note that what is needed for the proof of this sort of theorem to work is a form of visibility that seems to be intermediate between what we are calling visibility and visibility with respect to ordinary Kobayashi geodesics.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the notion of visibility relative to the Kobayashi distance to domains in arbitrary complex manifolds. Visibility here refers to a property resembling visibility in the sense of Eberlein--O'Neill for Riemannian manifolds. Since it is difficult, in general, to determine whether domains are Cauchy-complete with respect to the Kobayashi distance, we do not assume so here. We provide many sufficient conditions for visibility. We establish a Wolff--Denjoy-type theorem in a very general setting as an application. We also explore some connections between visibility and Gromov hyperbolicity for Kobayashi hyperbolic domains in the above setting.

Abstract:In this note, we introduce the notion of visible boundary points with respect to Kobayashi distance for domains in complex euclidean space. Following the work of Sarkar, we obtain additive and multiplicative localization results about Kobayashi distance near visible boundary points. Then using the additive localization result, we show that visibility property with respect to Kobayashi distance is a local property of the boundary points and it does not depend on the domain.

Abstract:We show that on convex domains with sufficiently smooth boundary the limit set of non-visible Kobayashi geodesics are contained in a complex face. In two dimensions, this implies the existence of a complex tangential line segment of non-Goldilocks points in the boundary. Conversely, we construct sequences of non-visible almost-geodesics on convex domains whose boundary contains a complex tangential line segment of non-Goldilocks points in a specific direction.

Abstract:Consider a bounded, strongly pseudoconvex domain D ⊂ C n with minimal smoothness (namely, the class C 2 ) and let b be a locally integrable function on D. We characterize boundedness (resp., compactness) in L p ( D ) , p > 1 , of the commutator [ b , P ] of the Bergman projection P in terms of an appropriate bounded (resp. vanishing) mean oscillation requirement on b. We also establish the equivalence of such notion of BMO (resp., VMO) with other BMO and VMO spaces given in the literature. Our proofs use a dyadic analog of the Berezin transform and holomorphic integral representations going back (for smooth domains) to N. Kerzman & E. M. Stein, and E. Ligocka.

Abstract:In the works of Darboux and Walsh it was remarked that a one to one self mapping of $\rr^3$ which sends convex sets to convex ones is affine. It can be remarked also that a $\calc^2$-diffeomorphism $F:U\to U^{'}$ between two domains in $\cc^n$, $n\ge 2$, which sends pseudoconvex hypersurfaces to pseudoconvex ones is either holomorphic or antiholomorphic. \smallskip In this note we are interested in the self mappings of $\cc^n$ which send convex hypersurfaces to pseudoconvex ones. Their characterization is the following: {\it A $\calc^2$ - diffeomorphism $F:U'\to U$ (where $U', U\subset \cc^n$ are domains) sends convex hypersurfaces to pseudoconvex ones if and only if the inverse map $\Phi\deff F^{-1}$ is weakly pluriharmonic, i.e. it satisfies some nice second order PDE very close to $\d\bar\d \Phi = 0$.} In fact all pluriharmonic $\Phi$-s do satisfy this equation, but there are also other solutions.
