Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group. If f : G -> C is a nonzero function with Fourier transform f, the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle states that |supp( f)||supp((f) over cap)| >= |G|. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we present the shift bound for abelian codes with a streamlined proof. Second, we use the shifting technique to prove a generalization and a sharpening of the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle. In particular, if f : G -> F is a non-zero function from G to a field F, and if f has a Fourier transform (f) over cap, the sharpened uncertainty principle states that |supp(f)|| supp((f) over cap)| >= | G|+| supp(f)|-| H(supp(f))|, where H(supp(f)) is the stabilizer of supp(f) in G.
Fundamental Limits Analysis of Multiband Sensing

Abstract:Future wireless systems are supposed to provide high-resolution sensing services via communication signals. Under this background, multiband sensing has recently become a promising technology due to that it can improve the sensing performance by jointly utilizing multiple non-contiguous frequency bands at a low cost. However, few studies have investigated the fundamental limits of multiband sensing, especially in the presence of phase distortion factors. In this paper, we investigate the fundamental limits of multiband sensing in terms of time delay. We derive a closed-form expression of the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) for the delay separation to reveal useful insights. Additionally, a metric called the statistical resolution limit (SRL) is employed to investigate the fundamental limits of delay resolution. The fundamental limits of delay estimation error are also investigated based on the CRB and Ziv-Zakai bound (ZZB). Based on the above derived fundamental limits, numerical results are presented to provide key insights on the performance limits of the multiband sensing.

Abstract:We study a family of moduli spaces and corresponding quantum invariants introduced recently by Fan-Jarvis-Ruan. The family has a wall-and-chamber structure relative to a positive rational parameter is an element of. For a Fermat quasi-homogeneous polynomial W (not necessarily of Calabi-Yau type), we study natural generating functions packaging the invariants. Our wall-crossing formula relates the generating functions by showing that they all lie on the Lagrangian cone associated to the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of W. For arbitrarily small parameter is an element of, a specialization of our generating function is a hypergeometric series called the big I-function which determines the entire Lagrangian cone. As a special case of our wall-crossing, we obtain a new geometric interpretation of the Landau-Ginzburg mirror theorem.

Abstract:Digital signals are complex-valued functions on Z n . Signal sets with certain properties are required in various communication systems. Traditional signal sets consider only the time distortion during transmission. Recently, signal sets taking care of both the time and phase distortion have been studied, and are called time-phase signal sets. Several constructions of time-phase signal sets are available in the literature. There are a number of bounds on time signal sets (also called codebooks). They are automatically bounds on time-phase signal sets, but are bad bounds. The first objective of this paper is to develop better bounds on time-phase signal sets from known bounds on time signal sets. The second objective of this paper is to construct four series of time-phase signal sets, one of which is optimal.

Abstract:In this paper, the performance limitation of information time-delay systems under bandwidth and channel noise constraints are investigated. The channel noise is assumed to be Gaussian white noise and obtain the expression of the performance limitation is obtained using spectrum decomposition and partial factorization techniques. The result shows that the performance limitation depends on the given system's unstable zeros, time delay and non-minimum phase zero. Moreover, other communication constraints such as the bandwidth and Gaussian white noise also impact performance. Finally, the theoretical result is verified through a simulation.

Abstract:Abstract We discuss the connections between the complex SYK model at the conformal limit and warped conformal field theories. Both theories have an SL(2, ℝ) × U(1) global symmetry. We present comparisons on symmetries, correlation functions, the effective action and the entropy formula. We also use modular covariance to reinterpret results in the complex SYK model.

Abstract:We extend the Wiener-Khinchin theorem to non-wide sense stationary (WSS) random processes, i.e. we prove that, under certain assumptions, the power spectral density (PSD) of any random process is equal to the Fourier transform of the time-averaged autocorrelation function. We use the theorem to show that bandlimitedness of the PSD implies bandlimitedness of the generalized-PSD for a certain class of non-WSS signals. This fact allows us to apply the Nyquist criterion derived by Gardner for the generalized-PSD.

Abstract:We first show that the bandlimited signals associated with linear canonical transform (LCT) form a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. An orthogonal basis for the class of bandlimited signals associated with LCT is then proposed by use of the reproducing kernel, with respect to which the coordinates of signal are actually values taken by the signal at certain instants of time. Finally, a nonuniform sampling theorem for bandlimited signals associated with LCT is presented.

Abstract:Time-limited and (a, b, c, d)-band-limited signals are of great interest not only in theory but also in real applications. In this paper, we use the sampling theorem associated with linear canonical transform to investigate an operator whose effect on a signal is to produce its first time-limited then (a, b, c, d)-band-limited version. First, the eigenvalue problem for the operator is shown to be equivalent to a discrete eigenvalue problem for an infinite matrix. Then the eigenfunctions of the operator, which are referred to as generalized prolate spheroidal wave functions (GPSWFs), are shown to be first, orthogonal over finite as well as infinite intervals, and second, complete over L-2(-L, L) and the class of (a, b, c, d)-band-limited signals. A simple method based on sampling theorem for computing GPSWFs is presented and the definite parity of GPSWFs is also given. Finally, based on the dual orthogonality and completeness of GPSWFs, several applications of GPSWFs to the representation of time-limited and (a,b, c, d)-band-limited signals are presented.

Abstract:The linear canonical transform (LCT) has been shown to be a powerful analyzing tool in signal processing. Many results of this transform are already known, including bandlimited extrapolation. The existing algorithm for solving the problem of LCT bandlimited extrapolation is based on signal expansion into a series of generalized prolate spheroidal wave functions (GPSWFs). However, the requirement to compute and store the GPSWFs and the errors due to the series truncation render this algorithm ill-suitable for a practical implementation. In this correspondence, we first propose a new formulation of the Gerchberg-Papoulis (GP) algorithm for LCT bandlimited extrapolation. Then, we present a fast convergence algorithm for the new formulation. The classical GP algorithm related to Fourier bandlimited signals is noted as a special case. Moreover, the comparison between the proposed algorithm and the one based on GPSWFs expansion is provided, and the validity of the theoretical derivations is demonstrated via simulations. Several potential applications of the achieved theory are also presented.

Abstract:The Ray-Singer isospectral theorem (1971) is applied to a general spectral function for Laplacians of twisted p-forms (say) on homogeneous Clifford-Klein factors of the three-sphere. The inducing formulae necessary to express any spectral quantity for any twisting in terms of those for cyclic subgroups of the tetrahedral, octahedral and icosahedral deck groups are detailed. Further, Artin's theorem allows the McKay correspondence to be obtained. The isospectral theorem is shown to yield a derivation of the Sunada construction which is equivalent to the later one by Pesce.

Abstract:Kluvánek extended the Whittaker-Kotel'nikov-Shannon theorem to the abstract harmonic analysis setting over a LCA group G . In this context, the classical condition for to be band limited is replaced by having its support essentially contained in a transversal set of a compact quotient group. This condition was later shown to be necessary in general. Moreover, the classical interpolation formula is also equivalent to a Plancherel like isometric formula involving the norm of f and the norm of the sequence of its samples over a subgroup H . Here, recalling some Laws of Large Numbers, we will prove an equivalent result for the support of the spectral measure of a Gaussian stationary random process X , indexed over a LCA group G . The conditions are formulated in terms of an almost sure isometric formula involving the sample variances of X , and its samples over a subgroup H respectively.

Abstract:If we consider a sequence of warped product length spaces, what conditions on the sequence of warping functions implies compactness of the sequence of distance functions? In particular, we want to know when a subsequence converges to a well defined metric space on the same manifold with the same topology. What conditions on the sequence of warping functions implies Lipschitz bounds for the sequence of distance functions and/or the limiting distance function? In this paper we give answers to both of these questions as well as many examples which elucidate the theorems and show that our hypotheses are necessary.

Abstract:Wigner distribution is an effective joint time -frequency representation of signals whichshows many prominent proproperties for nonstationary signal analysis. The main obstacle for itswidespread application is the interference caused by crossterms,because it is not a linear transform. Basing on the fact that Wigner Distribution WD(t,w)and Ambiguity Function AF(ξ, τ)are a two -dimensional Fourier Transform pair and that the crosssterms appear in the t-w plane as high spatialfrequency fluctuations, it is proposed in this paper that the crossterm may be suppressed by ‘ low passfiltering’ the Ambiguity Function in(ξ,τ)plane and then inverse transformed to the (t,w)plane. The validity of the proposed method was verified by computer simulation,It was also applied to theanalysis of heart sound and some interesting initial results were obtained.

Abstract:The fundamental notion of relative degree is studied for a class of linear timedelay systems of retarded type, where the standard assumption of commensurate delays is dropped. Algebraic conditions are provided that fully exploit the delay dependence structure. Even though the analyzed systems do not have a nontrivial feedthrough from input to output, it is shown that the relative degree may be sensitive to infinitesimal delay perturbations, which is at the basis of a novel notion of relative degree, called strong relative degree. This notion is characterized algebraically and computationally in both a SISO and a MIMO setting. By means of the obtained characterizations and a benchmark problem, which illustrates that invariant zeros may be characterized as zeros of quasi-polynomials of retarded, neutral, or advanced type, new light is shed on existence conditions of a normal form. The novel concepts and theoretical results play a key role in the design and analysis of extended PD controllers, for which an algorithm and numerical experiments are presented.
A Generalized Matrosov Theorem for Signal Sets on Time Scales

Abstract:The Matrosov theorem is used to infer uniform asymptotic stability of the trivial solution in the context of time-varying systems using a weak Lyapunov function. This paper generalizes the classic Matrosov theorem to dynamical systems, that exhibit continuous-time and discrete-time signals simultaneously. Such systems can be defined using the notion of time scales. We use the framework of Signal Sets equipped a pseudo distance measure to describe convergence, to obtain a generalized Matrosov theorem for dynamical systems defined on time scales. Two examples show how our results can be used to conclude uniform global attractivity of the trivial solution of a time-varying system, for which it appears that the existing Matrosov results fall short.
