Abstract:In continuation of our previous works J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 35, 9355-9365 (2002), J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 38, 7851 (2005) and Eur. Phys. J. D 72, 172 (2018), we investigate a class of generalized coherent states for associated Jacobi polynomials and hypergeometric functions, satisfying the resolution of the identity with respect to a weight function expressed in terms of Meijer's G-function. We extend the state Hilbert space of the constructed states and discuss the property of the reproducing kernel and its analytical expansion. Further, we provide the expectation values of observables relevant to this quantum model. We also perform the quantization of the complex plane, compute and analyze the probability density and the temporal stability in these states. Using the completeness relation provided by the coherent states, we achieve the thermodynamic analysis in the diagonal $P$-representation of the density operator.

Abstract:Coherent states have three main properties: coherence, overcompleteness and intrinsic geometrization. These unique properties play fundamental roles in field theory, especially, in the description of classical domains and quantum fluctuations of physical fields, in the calculations of physical processes involving infinite number of virtual particles, in the derivation of functional integrals and various effective field theories, also in the determination of long-range orders and collective excitations, and finally in the exploration of origins of topologically nontrivial gauge fields and associated gauge degrees of freedom.

Abstract:The notion of a coherent space is a nonlinear version of the notion of a complex Euclidean space: The vector space axioms are dropped while the notion of inner product is kept. Coherent spaces provide a setting for the study of geometry in a different direction than traditional metric, topological, and differential geometry. Just as it pays to study the properties of manifolds independently of their embedding into a Euclidean space, so it appears fruitful to study the properties of coherent spaces independent of their embedding into a Hilbert space. Coherent spaces have close relations to reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, Fock spaces, and unitary group representations, and to many other fields of mathematics, statistics, and physics. This paper is the first of a series of papers and defines concepts and basic theorems about coherent spaces, associated vector spaces, and their topology. Later papers in the series discuss symmetries of coherent spaces, relations to homogeneous spaces, the theory of group representations, $C^*$-algebras, hypergroups, finite geometry, and applications to quantum physics. While the applications to quantum physics were the main motiviation for developing the theory, many more applications exist in complex analysis, group theory, probability theory, statistics, physics, and engineering.

Abstract:We construct a class of coherent spin-network states that capture properties of curved space-times of the Friedmann-Lamaitre-Robertson-Walker type on which they are peaked. The data coded by a coherent state are associated to a cellular decomposition of a spatial (t = const) section with a dual graph given by the complete five-vertex graph, though the construction can be easily generalized to other graphs. The labels of coherent states are complex SL(2, C) variables, one for each link of the graph, and are computed through a smearing process starting from a continuum extrinsic and intrinsic geometry of the canonical surface. The construction covers both Euclidean and Lorentzian signatures; in the Euclidean case and in the limit of flat space we reproduce the simplicial 4-simplex semiclassical states used in spin foams.
Eigenmodes of the Laplacian on Hyperbolic Lattices

Abstract:We examine a specific category of eigenfunctions of the lattice Laplacian on $\{p,q\}$-tessellations of the Poincaré disk that bear resemblance to plane waves in the continuum case. Our investigation reveals that the lattice eigenmodes deviate from the continuum solutions by a factor that depends solely on the local inclination of the vertex in relation to the wave's propagation direction. This allows us to compute certain eigenfunctions by numerical and analytical methods. For various special cases we find explicit exact eigenfunctions and their eigenvalues on the infinite lattice.

Abstract:We study Bohr-Sommerfeld states in the context of the irreducible representations of SU(2). These states offer a precise bridge between the classical and quantum descriptions of angular momentum. We show that they recover the usual basis of angular momentum eigenstates used in physics, and give a self-contained proof in this setting of the formula of Bothwick, Paul and Uribe for the asymptotics of the inner product of arbitrary coherent loop states. As an application, we use these states to derive Littlejohn and Yu's geometric formula for the asymptotics of the Wigner matrix elements.

Coherent States for infinite homogeneous waveguide arrays: Cauchy coherent states for $E(2)$

Abstract:Perelomov coherent states for equally spaced, infinite homogeneous waveguide arrays with Euclidean E(2) symmetry are defined, and a new resolution of the identity is obtained. The key point to construct this novel resolution of the identity is the fact that coherent states satisfy the Helmholtz equation (in coherent states labels), and thus every coherent state belongs to a one-parameter family uniquely determined by the Cauchy initial data of the coherent state in a one-dimensional Cauchy set. For this reason we call \textit{Cauchy coherent} states to these initial data. The novel, non-local resolution of the identity in terms of Cauchy coherent states is provided using frame theory. It is also shown that Perelomov coherent states for the Eucliean E(2) group have a simple and natural physical realization in these waveguide arrays.

Application of the Weyl calculus perspective on discrete octonionic analysis in bounded domains

Abstract:In this paper, we finish the basic development of the discrete octonionic analysis by presenting a Weyl calculus-based approach to bounded domains in $\mathbb{R}^{8}$. In particular, we explicitly prove the discrete Stokes formula for a bounded cuboid, and then we generalise this result to arbitrary bounded domains in interior and exterior settings by the help of characteristic functions. After that, discrete interior and exterior Borel-Pompeiu and Cauchy formulae are introduced. Finally, we recall the construction of discrete octonionic Hardy spaces for bounded domains. Moreover, we explicitly explain where the non-associativity of octonionic multiplication is essential and where it is not. Thus, this paper completes the basic framework of the discrete octonionic analysis introduced in previous papers, and, hence, provides a solid foundation for further studies in this field.

Uniform Asymptotics of Orthogonal Polynomials Arising from Coherent States

Abstract:In this paper, we study a family of orthogonal polynomials $\{\phi_n(z)\}$ arising from nonlinear coherent states in quantum optics. Based on the three-term recurrence relation only, we obtain a uniform asymptotic expansion of $\phi_n(z)$ as the polynomial degree $n$ tends to infinity. Our asymptotic results suggest that the weight function associated with the polynomials has an unusual singularity, which has never appeared for orthogonal polynomials in the Askey scheme. Our main technique is the Wang and Wong's difference equation method. In addition, the limiting zero distribution of the polynomials $\phi_n(z)$ is provided.

Coorbit Theory for Coefficients in Weighted Lebesgue Spaces, and its Application to the Wavelet Transform and the Short-Time Fourier Transform

Abstract:Starting with an integrable unitary representation of a locally compact group and its associated voice transform, coorbit theory describes the construction and investigation of the so-called coorbit spaces. A coorbit space consists of distributions of which the voice transform is contained in a given function space. We construct coorbit spaces which elements have voice transforms in weighted Lebesgue spaces. By applying this construction to the wavelet transform and short-time Fourier transform, we obtain special cases of the homogeneous Besov spaces and the modulation spaces, respectively. We also discretize the coorbit spaces in terms of Banach frames, where the frame vectors are contained in the orbit of some suitable element under the group action. For the two examples of the wavelet transform and the short-time Fourier transform, we derive sufficient conditions for a wavelet respectively a Gabor window to be suitable to generate such a Banach frame in the respective context.

Edge Laplacians and Edge Poisson Transforms for Graphs

Abstract:For a finite graph, we establish natural isomorphisms between eigenspaces of a Laplace operator acting on functions on the edges and eigenspaces of a transfer operator acting on functions on one-sided infinite non-backtracking paths. Interpreting the transfer operator as a classical dynamical system and the Laplace operator as its quantization, this result can be viewed as a quantum-classical correspondence. In contrast to previously established quantum-classical correspondences for the vertex Laplacian which exclude certain exceptional spectral parameters, our correspondence is valid for all parameters. This allows us to relate certain spectral quantities to topological properties of the graph such as the cyclomatic number and the 2-colorability. The quantum-classical correspondence for the edge Laplacian is induced by an edge Poisson transform on the universal covering of the graph which is a tree of bounded degree. In the special case of regular trees, we relate both the vertex and the edge Poisson transform to the representation theory of the automorphism group of the tree and study associated operator valued Hecke algebras.

Abstract:We provide a group theory approach to coherent states describing quantum space-time and its properties. This provides a relativistic framework for the metric of a Riemmanian space with bosonic and fermionic coordinates, its continuum and discrete states, and a kind of {\it"quantum optics"} for the space-time. {\bf New} results of this paper are: (i) The space-time is described as a physical coherent state of the complete covering of the SL(2C) group, eg the Metaplectic group Mp(n). (ii) (The discrete structure arises from its two irreducible: $\textit{even}$ $(2n)$ and $\textit{odd}$ $(2n\;+\;1)\;$ representations, ($n = 1,\, 2, \,3\,...$ ), spanning the complete Hilbert space $\mathcal{H} = \mathcal{H}_{odd}\oplus \mathcal{H}_{even}$. Such a global or {\it complete} covering guarantees the CPT symmetry and unitarity. Large $n$ yields the classical and continuum manifold, as it must be. (iii) The coherent and squeezed states and Wigner functions of quantum-space-time for black holes and de Sitter, and (iv) for the quantum space-imaginary time (instantons), black holes in particular. They encompass the semiclassical space-time behaviour plus high quantum phase oscillations, and notably account for the classical-quantum gravity duality and trans-Planckian domain. The Planck scale consistently corresponds to the coherent state eigenvalue $\alpha = 0$ (and to the $n = 0$ level in the discrete representation). It is remarkable the power of coherent states in describing both continuum and discrete space-time. The quantum space-time description is {\it regular}, there is no any space-time singularity here, as it must be.

Spectral theory of the invariant Laplacian on the disk and the sphere -- a complex analysis approach

Abstract:The central theme of this paper is the holomorphic spectral theory of the canonical Laplace operator of the complement $\Omega := \{(z,w) \in \widehat{\mathbb{C}}^2 \colon z \cdot w \neq 1\}$ of the "complexified unit circle" $\{(z,w) \in \widehat{\mathbb{C}}^2 \colon z \cdot w = 1\}$. We start by singling out a distinguished set of holomorphic eigenfunctions on the bidisk in terms of hypergeometric functions and prove that they provide a spectral decomposition of every holomorphic eigenfunction on the bidisk. As a second step, we identify the maximal domains of definition of these eigenfunctions and show that these maximal domains naturally determine the fine structure of the eigenspaces. Our main result gives an intrinsic classification of all closed Möbius invariant subspaces of eigenspaces of the canonical Laplacian of $\Omega$. Generalizing foundational prior work of Helgason and Rudin, this provides a unifying complex analytic framework for the real-analytic eigenvalue theories of both the hyperbolic and spherical Laplace operators on the open unit disk resp. the Riemann sphere and, in particular, shows how they are interrelated with one another.

Abstract:We construct the coherent states of general order, m, for the ladder operators and , which act on rational deformations of the harmonic oscillator. The position wavefunctions of the eigenvectors involve type III Hermite exceptional orthogonal polynomials. We plot energy expectations, time-dependent position probability densities for the coherent states and for the even and odd cat states, Wigner functions, and Heisenberg uncertainty relations. We find generally non-classical behaviour, with one exception: there is a regime of large magnitude of the coherent state parameter, z, where the otherwise indistinct position probability density separates into m + 1 distinct wavepackets oscillating and colliding in the potential, forming interference fringes when they collide. The Mandel Q parameter is calculated to find sub-Poissonian statistics, another indicator of non-classical behaviour. We plot the position standard deviation and find squeezing in many of the cases. We calculate the two 'photon' number probability density for the output state when the m = 4, coherent states (where μ labels the lowest weight in the superposition) are placed on one arm of a beamsplitter. We find that it does not factorize, again indicating non-classical behaviour. Calculation of the linear entropy for this beamsplitter output state shows significant entanglement, another non-classical feature. We also construct linearized versions, , of the annihilation operators and their coherent states and calculate the same properties that we investigate for the coherent states. For these we find similar behaviour to the coherent states, at much smaller magnitudes of z, but comparable average energies.

Efimov-like states and quantum funneling effects on synthetic hyperbolic surfaces

Abstract:Engineering lattice models with tailored inter-site tunnelings and onsite energies could synthesize essentially arbitrary Riemannian surfaces with highly tunable local curvatures. Here, we point out that discrete synthetic Poincaré half-planes and Poincaré disks, which are created by lattices in flat planes, support infinitely degenerate eigenstates for any nonzero eigenenergies. Such Efimov-like states exhibit a discrete scaling symmetry and imply an unprecedented apparatus for studying quantum anomaly using hyperbolic surfaces. Furthermore, all eigenstates are exponentially localized in the hyperbolic coordinates, signifying the first example of quantum funneling effects in Hermitian systems. As such, any initial wave packet travels towards the edge of the Poincaré half-plane or its equivalent on the Poincaré disk, delivering an efficient scheme to harvest light and atoms in two dimensions. Our findings unfold the intriguing properties of hyperbolic spaces and suggest that Efimov states may be regarded as a projection from a curved space with an extra dimension.
Coherent states of the asymmetric harmonic oscillator

Abstract:We constructed formal coherent states for an asymmetric harmonic oscillator, where the asymmetry parameter is the square root of the ratio of spring constants. Although these states are constructed based on both Glauber's and Perelomov's approaches, in general they do not satisfy all the properties required for coherent states. Over time, the coherent states introduced in this way generally become incoherent. However, there are some specific parameters for the square root ratios of the spring constants $\frac{4k+1}{4l+1}$ or $\frac{4k+3}{4l+3}$. For these parameters it is possible to construct coherent states on the subspace of the Hilbert space of eigenstates. These coherent states keep their coherence during the time evolution. This case is also analyzed.

Abstract:The discrete Laplacian on Euclidean triangulated surfaces is a well-established notion. We introduce discrete Laplacians on spherical and hyperbolic triangulated surfaces. On the one hand, our definitions are close to the Euclidean one in that the edge weights contain the cotangents of certain combinations of angles and are non-negative if and only if the triangulation is Delaunay. On the other hand, these discretizations are structure-preserving in several respects. We prove that the area of a convex polyhedron can be written in terms of the discrete spherical Laplacian of the support function, whose expression is the same as the area of a smooth convex body in terms of the usual spherical Laplacian. We show that the conformal factors of discrete conformal vector fields on a triangulated surface of curvature $k \in \{-1,1\}$ are $-2k$-eigenfunctions of our discrete Laplacians, exactly as in the smooth setting. The discrete conformality can be understood here both in the sense of the vertex scaling and in the sense of circle patterns. Finally, we connect the $-2k$-eigenfunctions to infinitesimal isometric deformations of a polyhedron inscribed into corresponding quadrics.

An inflated dynamic Laplacian to track the emergence and disappearance of semi-material coherent sets

Abstract:Lagrangian methods continue to stand at the forefront of the analysis of time-dependent dynamical systems. Most Lagrangian methods have criteria that must be fulfilled by trajectories as they are followed throughout a given finite flow duration. This key strength of Lagrangian methods can also be a limitation in more complex evolving environments. It places a high importance on selecting a time window that produces useful results, and these results may vary significantly with changes in the flow duration. We show how to overcome this drawback in the tracking of coherent flow features. Finite-time coherent sets (FTCS) are material objects that strongly resist mixing in complicated nonlinear flows. Like other materially coherent objects, by definition they must retain their coherence properties throughout the specified flow duration. Recent work [Froyland and Koltai, CPAM, 2023] introduced the notion of semi-material FTCS, whereby a balance is struck between the material nature and the coherence properties of FTCS. This balance provides the flexibility for FTCS to come and go, merge and separate, or undergo other changes as the governing unsteady flow experiences dramatic shifts. The purpose of this work is to illustrate the utility of the inflated dynamic Laplacian introduced in [Froyland and Koltai, CPAM, 2023] in a range of dynamical systems that are challenging to analyse by standard Lagrangian means, and to provide an efficient meshfree numerical approach for the discretisation of the inflated dynamic Laplacian.
