Abstract:The Shimura lift of a Hekce eigenform multiplied by a theta series is the square of the form. We extend this result by generalizing the product to the Rankin-Cohen brackets. We prove that the Shimura lift of the Rankin-Cohen bracket of an eigenform and a theta series is given by the Rankin-Cohen bracket of the eigenform and itself.

Abstract:The Shimura correspondence is a fundamental tool in the study of half-integral weight modular forms. In this paper, we prove a Shimura-type correspondence for spaces of half-integral weight cusp forms which transform with a power of the Dedekind eta multiplier twisted by a Dirichlet character. We prove that the lift of a cusp form of weight $\lambda+1/2$ and level $N$ has weight $2\lambda$ and level $6N$, and is new at the primes $2$ and $3$ with specified Atkin-Lehner eigenvalues. This precise information leads to arithmetic applications. For a wide family of spaces of half-integral weight modular forms we prove the existence of infinitely many primes $\ell$ which give rise to quadratic congruences modulo arbitrary powers of $\ell$.

Abstract:The main theme of this paper is that singular automorphic forms on classical groups are given by theta series liftings. We establish several inequalities relating the automorphic multiplicities of a given representation and that of its abstract theta lift. Our methods allow one to lift noncuspidal, square integrable automorphic forms when the dual pair involved is in the stable range. In this way we construct new families of singular automorphic forms, many of which are clearly unipotent. In fact, starting from one-dimensional representations and repeating the procedure (of lifting in the stable range), one may obtain all automorphic forms which are quadratic unipotent in the sense of Moeglin.

Abstract:We generalize the linear relation formula between the square of normalized Hecke eigenforms of weight $k$ and normalized Hecke eigenforms of weight $2k$, to Rankin-Cohen brackets of general degree. As an ingredient of the proof, we also generalize a formula of Zagier on the Petersson inner product of Rankin-Cohen brackets involving Eisenstein series.

We shall also prove a conjecture of Freitag on the volume of Hilbert modular groups, and assuming a conjecture of Freitag on the dimension of the cuspform space, we obtain a finiteness result on eigenform product identities.

Abstract:Howe and Tan (1993) investigated a degenerate principal series representation of indefinite orthogonal groups $\mathrm{O}(V)$ and explicitly described its composition series. They showed that there exists a unique unitarizable irreducible submodule $\Pi$, which is isomorphic to a cohomological representation. In this paper we construct orthogonal automorphic forms belonging to $\Pi$ as theta liftings of holomorphic $\mathrm{Mp}_2(\mathbb{R})$ cusp forms by using the Borcherds' method. We will give a useful observation in computing their Fourier expansions that enables us to give very precise descriptions of the liftings specially belonging to $\Pi$. We will also determine the cuspidal supports of the liftings, then confirm the square integrability of those automorphic forms on orthogonal groups.

Abstract:The classical theta correspondence, based on the Weil representation, allows one to lift automorphic representations on symplectic groups or their double covers to automorphic representations on special orthogonal groups. It is of interest to vary the orthogonal group and describe the behavior in this theta tower (the Rallis tower). In prior work, the authors obtained an extension of the classical theta correspondence to higher degree metaplectic covers of symplectic and special orthogonal groups that is based on the tensor product of the Weil representation with another small representation. In this work we study the existence of generic lifts in the resulting theta tower. In the classical case, there are two orthogonal groups that may support a generic lift of an irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of a symplectic group. We show that in general the Whittaker range consists of r + 1 groups for the lift from the r-fold cover of a symplectic group. We also give a period criterion for the genericity of the lift at each step of the tower.

Abstract:Using combinations of weight-1 and weight-2 of Kronecker-Eisenstein series to construct currents in the distributional de Rham complex of a squared elliptic curve, we find a simple explicit formula for the type II $(\text{GL}_2, \text{GL}_2)$ theta lift without smoothing, analogous to the classical formula of Siegel for periods of Eisenstein series. For $K$ a CM field, the same technique applies without change to obtain an analogous formula for the $(\text{GL}_2(K),K^\times)$ theta correspondence.

Abstract:The main result of this paper is the construction of a new class of weight shifting operators, similar to the theta operators of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1902.10911" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1902.10911">arXiv:1902.10911</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1712.06969" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1712.06969">arXiv:1712.06969</a> and others, which are defined on the lower Ekedahl-Oort strata of the geometric special fibre of unitary Shimura varieties of signature $(n-1, 1)$ at a good prime $p$, split in the in the reflex field $E$, which we assume to be quadratic imaginary. These operators act on certain graded sheaves which are obtained from the arithmetic structure of the EO strata, in particular the $p$-rank on each stratum. We expect these operators to have applications to the study of Hecke-eigensystems of modular forms modulo $p$ and generalisations of the weight part of Serre's conjecture.

Abstract:We define a theta lift between the homology in degree $N-1$ of a locally symmetric space associated to $\mathrm{SL}_N(\mathbb{R})$ and the space of modular forms of weight $N$. We show that the Fourier coefficients of this lift are Poincaré duals to modular symbols associated to maximal parabolic subgroups. The constant term is a canonical cohomology classes obtained by transgressing the Euler class of a torus bundle. This Eisenstein lift realizes a geometric theta correspondence for the pair $\mathrm{SL}_N \times \mathrm{SL}_2$, in the spirit of Kudla-Millson. When $N=2$, we show that the lift surjects on the space of weight $2$ modular forms spanned by an Eisenstein series and the eigenforms with non-vanishing $L$-function.

Waldspurger formulas in higher cohomology

Abstract:The classical Waldspurger formula, which computes periods of quaternionic automorphic forms in maximal torus, has been used in a wide variety of arithmetic applications, such as the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture in rank 0 situations. This is why this formula is considered the rank 0 analogue of the celebrated Gross-Zagier formula. On the other hand, Eichler-Shimura correspondence allows us to interpret this quaternionic automorphic form as a cocycle in higher cohomology spaces of certain arithmetic groups. In this way we can realize the corresponding automorphic representation in the etale cohomology of certain Shimura varieties. In this work we find a formula, analogous to that of Waldspurger, which relates cap-products of this cocycle and fundamental classes associated with maximal torus with special values of Rankin-Selberg L-functions.

Abstract:We study Hilbert Poincaré series associated to general seed functions and construct Cohen's kernels and double Eisenstein series as series of Hilbert Poincaré series. Then we calculate the Rankin-Cohen brackets of Hilbert Poincaré series and Hilbert modular forms and extend Zagier's kernel formula to totally real number fields. Finally, we show that the Rankin-Cohen brackets of two different types of Eisenstein series are special values of double Eisenstein series up to a constant.

Abstract:The vector valued theta series of a positive-definite even lattice is a modular form for the Weil representation of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$. We show that the space of cusp forms for the Weil representation is generated by such functions. This gives a positive answer to Eichler's basis problem in this case. As applications we derive Waldspurger's result on the basis problem for scalar valued modular forms and give a new proof of the surjectivity of the Borcherds lift based on the analysis of local Picard groups.
