Abstract:We establish new, optimal gradient continuity estimates for solutions to a class of 2nd order partial differential equations, $\mathscr{L}(X, \nabla u, D^2 u) = f$, whose diffusion properties (ellipticity) degenerate along the \textit{a priori} unknown singular set of an existing solution, $\mathscr{S}(u) := \{X : \nabla u(X) = 0 \}$. The innovative feature of our main result concerns its optimality -- the sharp, encoded smoothness aftereffects of the operator. Such a quantitative information usually plays a decisive role in the analysis of a number of analytic and geometric problems. Our result is new even for the classical equation $|\nabla u | \cdot \Delta u = 1$. We further apply these new estimates in the study of some well known problems in the theory of elliptic PDEs.

Abstract:In this work we propose a discretization of the second boundary condition for the Monge-Ampere equation arising in geometric optics and optimal transport. The discretization we propose is the natural generalization of the popular Oliker-Prussner method proposed in 1988. For the discretization of the differential operator, we use a discrete analogue of the subdifferential. Existence, unicity and stability of the solutions to the discrete problem are established. Convergence results to the continuous problem are given.

Abstract:We prove the continuity of bounded solutions to complex Monge-Ampère equations on reduced, locally irreducible compact Kähler spaces. This in particular implies that any singular Kähler-Einstein potentials constructed in \cite{EGZ09} and \cite{Tsuji88, TianZhang06, ST17} are continuous. We also provide an affirmative answer to a conjecture in \cite{EGZ09} by showing that a resolution of any compact normal Kähler space satisfies the continuous approximation property. Finally, we settle the continuity of the potentials of the weak Kähler-Ricci flows \cite{ST17, GLZ20} on compact Kähler varieties with log terminal singularities.

Abstract:We consider weak solutions to very singular parabolic equations involving a one-Laplace-type operator, which is singular and degenerate, and a $p$-Laplace-type operator with $\frac{2n}{n+2}<p<\infty$, where $n\ge 2$ denotes the space dimension. This type of equation is used to describe the motion of a Bingham flow. It has been a long-standing open problem of whether a spatial gradient of a weak solution is continuous in space and time. This paper aims to give an affirmative answer for a wide class of such equations. This equation becomes no longer uniformly parabolic near a facet, the place where a spatial gradient vanishes. To achieve our goal, we show local a priori Hölder continuity of gradients suitably truncated near facets. For this purpose, we consider a parabolic approximate problem and appeal to standard methods, including De Giorgi's truncation and comparisons with Dirichlet heat flows. Our method is a parabolic adjustment of our method developed to prove the corresponding statements for stationary problems.

Abstract:We prove a relative $L^\infty$ estimate for a class of complex Monge-Ampère type equations on Kähler manifolds. It provides a unified approach to Tundinger type estimate and uniform estimate. It also improves the previous results about modulus of continuity, stability estimates, and $W^{1,1}$-estimates of Green's functions. The argument is based on the PDE method developed by Guo-Phong-Tong and constructing appropriate comparison metrics from entropy bound.
