Abstract:For a large class of cohomology theories, we prove that refined unramified cohomology is canonically isomorphic to the hypercohomology of a natural truncated complex of Zariski sheaves. This generalizes a classical result of Bloch and Ogus and solves a conjecture of Kok and Zhou.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalise the construction of the functorial pullback of refined unramified cohomology between smooth schemes, by following the ideas of Fulton's intersection theory and Rost's cycle modules. We also define standard actions of algebraic cycles on the refined unramified cohomology groups of smooth proper schemes avoiding Chow's moving lemma, which coincide with Schreieder's constructions for smooth projective schemes. As applications, we prove the projective bundle and blow-up formulas for refined unramified cohomology groups and we reduce the Rost nilpotence principle in characteristic zero to a statement concerning certain refined unramified cohomology groups. Moreover, we compute the refined unramified cohomology for smooth proper linear varieties and show that Rost's nilpotence principle holds for these varieties in characteristic zero.

Abstract:In this paper we show that Bloch's higher cycle class map with finite coefficients for quasi-projective equi-dimensional schemes over a field fits naturally in a long exact sequence involving Schreieder's refined unramified cohomology. We also show that the refined unramified cohomology satisfies the localization sequence. Using this we conjecture in the end that refined unramified cohomology is a motivic homology theory and explain how this is related to the aforementioned results.

Abstract:We give an expository account of a conjecture, developed by Coates-Iritani-Tseng and Ruan, which relates the quantum cohomology of a Gorenstein orbifold X to the quantum cohomology of a crepant resolution Y of X. We explore some consequences of this conjecture, showing that it implies versions of both the Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture and of the Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan-Graber. We also give a 'quantized' version of the conjecture, which determines higher-genus Gromov-Witten invariants of X from those of Y.

Abstract:Cobordisms are naturally bigraded and we show that this grading extends to Khovanov homology, making it a triply graded theory. Although the new grading does not make the homology a stronger invariant, it can be used to show that odd Khovanov homology is multiplicative with respect to disjoint unions and connected sums of links; same results hold for the generalized Khovanov homology defined by the author in his previous work. We also examine the module structure on both odd and even Khovanov homology, in particular computing the effect of sliding a basepoint through a crossing on the integral homology.

Abstract:We present a family of conjectural relations in the tautological cohomology of the moduli spaces of stable algebraic curves of genus $g$ with $n$ marked points. A large part of these relations has a surprisingly simple form: the tautological classes involved in the relations are given by stable graphs that are trees and that are decorated only by powers of the psi-classes at half-edges. We show that the proposed conjectural relations imply certain fundamental properties of the Dubrovin-Zhang (DZ) and the double ramification (DR) hierarchies associated to F-cohomological field theories. Our relations naturally extend a similar system of conjectural relations, which were proposed in an earlier work of the first author together with Guéré and Rossi and which are responsible for the normal Miura equivalence of the DZ and the DR hierarchy associated to an arbitrary cohomological field theory. Finally, we prove all the above mentioned relations in the case $n=1$ and arbitrary $g$ using a variation of the method from a paper by Liu and Pandharipande, this can be of independent interest. In particular, this proves the main conjecture from our previous joined work together with Hernández Iglesias. We also prove all the above mentioned relations in the case $g=0$ and arbitrary $n$.

Abstract:If two conical symplectic resolutions $X\to X_0$ and $X^!\to X_0^!$ are symplectic dual, the cohomology ring $H^*(X)$ and the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{C}^*$-fixed points in $X_0^!$ are expected to be isomorphic as graded algebras. This statement is called Hikita conjecture and it is known that the conjecture holds for some cases. In this paper, we deal with the cohomology of framed moduli spaces over the projective plane and the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{C}^*$- fixed points of $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/((\mathbb{Z}/r\mathbb{Z})\wr S_n) $ and show that these are isomorphic as graded vector spaces.

Abstract:We prove a new system of relations in the tautological ring of the moduli space of curves involving stable rooted trees with level structure decorated by the top Chern class of the Hodge bundle and $\Omega$-classes and double ramification structures. In particular, this resolves a recent conjecture on these relations as well as connects with one of the two sides of the recently established DR/DZ equivalence between the integrable hierarchies constructions of Buryak and of Dubrovin--Zhang.

Abstract:Intersection homology of Goresky and MacPherson can be defined from the Deligne sheaf, obtained from truncations of complexes of sheaves. As intersection homology is not the homology of a particular space, the search for a family of spaces whose homologies have properties analogous to intersection homology has developed. For some stratified spaces, M. Banagl has introduced such a family by using a topological truncation: the original link is replaced by a truncation of its homological Moore resolution. In this work, we study the dual approach in the Eckmann-Hilton sense: we consider the stratified space obtained by replacing the original link by a Postnikov approximation. The main result is that our construction restores the space constructed by Gajer to establish an intersection Dold-Thom theorem. We are conducting this study within the general framework of Quinn's homotopically stratified spaces.

Cohomology operations for moment-angle complexes and resolutions of Stanley-Reisner rings

Abstract:A fundamental result in toric topology identifies the cohomology ring of the moment-angle complex $\mathcal{Z}_K$ associated to a simplicial complex $K$ with the Koszul homology of the Stanley--Reisner ring of $K$. By studying cohomology operations induced by the standard torus action on the moment-angle complex, we extend this to a topological interpretation of the minimal free resolution of the Stanley-Reisner ring. The exterior algebra module structure in cohomology induced by the torus action recovers the linear part of the minimal free resolution, and we show that higher cohomology operations induced by the action (in the sense of Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson) can be assembled into an explicit differential on the resolution. Describing these operations in terms of Hochster's formula, we recover and extend a result due to Katthän. We then apply all of this to study the equivariant formality of torus actions on moment-angle complexes. For these spaces, we obtain complete algebraic and combinatorial characterisations of which subtori of the naturally acting torus act equivariantly formally.

Abstract:We study the behavior of Frobenius operators on smooth proper pushforwards of prismatic F-crystals. In particular we show that the i-th pushforward has its Frobenius height increased by at most i. Our proof crucially uses the notion of prismatic F-gauges introduced by Drinfeld and Bhatt--Lurie and its relative version, and we give a self-contained treatment without using the stacky formulation.

Abstract:In this paper, we define a quantization of the Double Ramification Hierarchies of Buryak (Commun Math Phys 336:1085–1107, 2015) and Buryak and Rossi (Commun Math Phys, 2014), using intersection numbers of the double ramification cycle, the full Chern class of the Hodge bundle and psi-classes with a given cohomological field theory. We provide effective recursion formulae which determine the full quantum hierarchy starting from just one Hamiltonian, the one associated with the first descendant of the unit of the cohomological field theory only. We study various examples which provide, in very explicit form, new (1+1)-dimensional integrable quantum field theories whose classical limits are well-known integrable hierarchies such as KdV, Intermediate Long Wave, extended Toda, etc. Finally, we prove polynomiality in the ramification multiplicities of the integral of any tautological class over the double ramification cycle.

A moving lemma for cohomology with support

Abstract:For a natural class of cohomology theories with support (including étale or pro-étale cohomology with suitable coefficients), we prove a moving lemma for cohomology classes with support on smooth quasi-projective k-varieties that admit a smooth projective compactification (e.g. if char(k)=0). This has the following consequences for such k-varieties and cohomology theories: a local and global generalization of the effacement theorem of Quillen, Bloch--Ogus, and Gabber, a finite level version of the Gersten conjecture in characteristic zero, and a generalization of the injectivity property and the codimension 1 purity theorem for étale cohomology. Our results imply that the refined unramified cohomology groups from [Sch21b] are motivic.

On the weight zero motivic cohomology

Abstract:We prove that singular cohomology of the underlying space of Berkovich's analytification of a scheme $X$ locally of finite type over a trivially-valued field $k$ of characteristic $0$ is isomorphic to cdh-cohomology with integer coefficients which is also isomorphic to the weight zero motivic cohomology $H^*(X, \mathbb{Z})$. Using this isomorphism, we demonstrate the vanishing of $RHom_{Sh_{Nis}(cor_k)}(\underline{G},\mathbb{Z})$, where $\underline{G}$ denotes the Nisnevich sheaf with transfers associated with a commutative algebraic group $G$ over $k$. For abelian $k$-varieties $A$ and $B$, we prove that $RHom_{\mathcal{PS}h_{tr}}(\underline{A},\underline{B})$ is isomorphic to $Hom_{\mathbf{Ab_k}}(A,B)$.

On the generic part of the cohomology of non-compact unitary Shimura varieties

Abstract:We prove that the generic part of the mod l cohomology of Shimura varieties associated to quasi-split unitary groups of even dimension is concentrated above the middle degree, extending our previous work to a non-compact case. The result applies even to Eisenstein cohomology classes coming from the locally symmetric space of the general linear group, and has been used in joint work with Allen, Calegari, Gee, Helm, Le Hung, Newton, Taylor and Thorne to get good control on these classes and deduce potential automorphy theorems without any self-duality hypothesis. Our main geometric result is a computation of the fibers of the Hodge-Tate period map on compactified Shimura varieties, in terms of similarly compactified Igusa varieties.

When the theories meet: Khovanov homology as Hochschild homology of links

Abstract:We show that Khovanov homology and Hochschild homology theories share common structure. In fact they overlap: Khovanov homology of a $(2,n)$-torus link can be interpreted as a Hochschild homology of the algebra underlining the Khovanov homology. In the classical case of Khovanov homology we prove the concrete connection. In the general case of Khovanov-Rozansky, $sl(n)$, homology and their deformations we conjecture the connection. The best framework to explore our ideas is to use a comultiplication-free version of Khovanov homology for graphs developed by L. Helme-Guizon and Y. Rong and extended here to to $\mathbb M$-reduced case, and to noncommutative algebras (in the case of a graph being a polygon). In this framework we prove that for any unital algebra $\A$ the Hochschild homology of $\A$ is isomorphic to graph homology over $\A$ of a polygon. We expect that this paper will encourage a flow of ideas in both directions between Hochschild/cyclic homology and Khovanov homology theories.

Uniqueness of real ring spectra up to higher homotopy

Abstract:We discuss a notion of uniqueness up to $n$-homotopy and study examples from stable homotopy theory. In particular, we show that the $q$-expansion map from elliptic cohomology to topological $K$-theory is unique up to $3$-homotopy, away from the prime $2$, and that upon taking $p$-completions and $\mathbf{F}_p^\times$-homotopy fixed points, this map is uniquely defined up to $(2p-3)$-homotopy. Using this, we prove new relationships between Adams operations on connective and dualisable topological modular forms -- other applications, including a construction of a connective model of Behrens' $Q(N)$ spectra away from $2N$, will be explored elsewhere. The technical tool facilitating this uniqueness is a variant of the Goerss--Hopkins obstruction theory for real spectra, which applies to various elliptic cohomology and topological $K$-theories with a trivial complex conjugation action as well as some of their homotopy fixed points.

Abstract:As a consequence of Efimov's proof of rigidity of the $\infty$-category of localising motives, Scholze and Efimov have constructed refinements of localising invariants such as $\operatorname{TC}^-$. In this article we compute the homotopy groups of the refined invariants $\operatorname{TC}^{-,\mathrm{ref}}(\mathrm{ku}\otimes\mathbb Q/\mathrm{ku})$ and $\operatorname{TC}^{-,\mathrm{ref}}(\mathrm{KU}\otimes\mathbb Q/\mathrm{KU})$. The computation involves a surprising connection to $q$-de Rham cohomology. In particular, it suggests a construction of a $q$-Hodge filtration on $q$-de Rham complexes in certain situations, which can be used to construct a functorial derived $q$-Hodge complex for many rings. This is in contrast to a no-go result by the second author, who showed that such a $q$-Hodge complex (and thus also a $q$-Hodge filtration) cannot exist in full generality.
